Older versions of PowerPoint allowed the audio to be saved as external sound files. I'd like to perform noise-reduction and minor editing outside of PowerPoint. Has Microsoft removed the "link narrations" option from PowerPoint 2010?

    Getting a “Could not find permission set named ‘ASP.Net’” error on your TFS 2010 server? It may have to do with the fact you’re trying to run ASP.NET as a child site of a SharePoint Web Site. The problem is described in the “ASP.NET 4 braking changes” site:   This error occurs because the ASP.NET 4 code access security (CAS) infrastructure looks for a permission set named ASP.Net. However, the partial trust configuration file that is referenced by WSS_Minimal does not contain any permission sets with that name. Currently there is not a version of SharePoint available that is compatible with ASP.NET. As a result, you should not attempt to run an ASP.NET 4 Web site as a child site underneath SharePoint Web sites.   There is a workaround you could try by setting this in your web.config, if you know what you’re doing: <trust level="Full" originUrl="" />

    Today I passed Microsoft exam 70-541: Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 - Application Development. This exam gives you MCTS certificate. In this posting I will talk about the exam and also give some suggestions about books to read when preparing for exam. About exam This exam was good one I think. The questions were not hard and also not too easy. Just enough to make sure you really know what you do when working with SharePoint. Or at least to make sure you how things work. After couple of years active SharePoint coding this exam needs no additional preparation. The questions covered very different topics like alerts, features, web parts, site definitions, event receivers, workflows, web services and deployments. There are 59 questions in the exam (this information is available in internet) and you have time a little bit more than two hours. It took me about 40 minutes to get questions answered and reviewed. I strongly suggest you to study the parts of WSS 3.0 you don’t know yet and write some code to find out how to use these things through SharePoint API. Good reading For guys with less experience there are some good books to suggest. Take one or both of these books because there are no official study materials or training kits available for this exam. One of my colleagues who is less experienced than me suggested Inside Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 by Ted Pattison and Daniel Larson. He told me that he found this book most useful for him to pass this exam.   When I started with SharePoint Services 3.0 my first book was Developer’s Guide To The Windows SharePoint Services v3 Platform by Todd C. Bleeker. It helped me getting started and later it was my main handbook for some time. Of course, there are many other good books and I suggest you to take what you find. Of course, before buying something I suggest you to discuss with guys who have read the book before. And make sure you mention that you are preparing for exam.   Conclusion If you are experienced SharePoint developer then this exam needs no preparation. Okay, some preparation is always good but if you don’t have time you are still able to pass this exam. If you are not experienced SharePoint developer then study before taking this exam – it is not easy stuff for novices. But if you pass this exam you can proudly say – yes, I know something about SharePoint! :)

    On one of the final talks about SQL Azure in Day 3 of PDC09, David Robinson, Senior PM on the Azure team, announced a project codenamed ‘Houston’ which is basically a Silverlight equivalent of SQL Server Management Studio. The concept comes from the SQL Azure being within the cloud, and if the only way to interact with it is by installing SSMS locally then it does not feel like a consistent story. From the limited preview, it only contains the basics but it clearly lets you create tables, stored procedures and views, edit them, even add data to tables in a grid view reminiscent of Microsoft Access. The UI was based around the standard ribbon bar, object window on the left and working pane on the right. As of now this tool is still pre-alpha and it seems like a basic tool that will facilitate rapid database development on cloud. When asked about general availability, no dates were given but calendar 2010 was indicated as the target.     First, let's talk about the bug patches. Programs getting fixes include Windows, Internet Explorer, Office, the .NET Framework, Microsoft Dynamics AX and Microsoft Visual Basic.   • Where did ULSTraceLog go to in the SharePoint 2010 Logging Database?

    The Logging Database is one of the many new concepts that will make the life of many SharePoint administrators quite a bit more enjoyable. In SharePoint 2007 the Unified Logging System (ULS) logged all of its data to text files, typically found on your SharePoint server in 12\LOGS.   • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Release

    Microsoft is planning to release the second edition of SQL Server 2008, the new edition will named SQL Server 2008 R2 due to be released by May 1st 2010.   Amongst the change on the edition is pricing which is anticipated to go up by 25% for the Standard Edition and about 15% for the Enterprise Edition. As for the features, there are some very cool additions  including PowerPivot for SharePoint, Master Data Services and Multi-Server Administration.
