• Memory leak till crash due to HttpRequest

  I played with HttpRequest and realized that the memory is not cleaned up after any request. After some time the running tab within Chrome will crash. Here is some testing code.   I am reading through a directory with some pictures and such using a pretty simple implementation of readdir() like the following: if ($handle = opendir($path)) { while (false !== ($szFilename = readdir($handle))) { if ($szFilename[0] !== '.') { if (is_file($path.$szFilename)) { // do stuff } } } } The problem that I am having is that the files are not being read in alphabetical order as the docs for readdir() state: Returns the filename of the next file from the directory. The filenames are returned in the order in which they are stored by the filesystem. Another weird thing is that, on the local testing server, the same code works great. This is running on a server using the LAMP stack in both cases. I know that I can build an array and just sort it, but I was wondering if I was missing something in what I was doing.   I'm beginning to implement a simple scripting system into my networked server, and I've hit a snag. Before, I've been wrapping my calls into functions on objects that manipulate objects, but lately I've been finding this to be a pain for simple things. For example, if I set 'player.HP = 1'.. this works server-side. But the player side never sees this change unless I explicitly send a packet to inform the client. For many things like map swapping that require more complicated changes, like change X, Y, Map and do this.. I have a function. That's fine. But what about these small properties I want to sync?

  I am a self taught.. NEW..programmer. The language I chose was Objective-C so I can write for Apple products. I have learned the hard way that Objective-C has a steep learning curve but have forced myself to look at it over and over until I get it. I feel I am completing one major step and that is becoming very comfortable with the syntax and now as I enter the next big step...finding out what is possible with a computer language - I am thinking that all software is just developed within the confines of classes-loops-booleans-IF/OR statements-variables-etc. Is that a true assessment? When thinking of software in my head do I just need to learn to convert it all to arrays-loops/variables/classes - IF/OR statements - etc? Sorry if this question sounds funny but I am just learning how to take the language in my head and talk (what I think is) the language of a computer. Is there a good book or tutorial that helps illustrate how to speak computer speak?

  Hi! I have setup subversion 1.6.5 on Fedora. I have decided to use a single repository for multiple projects. I have added one project, projA, to the repository. I will have more projects to add to the repository in future. If I try to add next project with the command 'svn import . file:///path/to/repos' gives svn: File already exists: filesystem '/usr/local/svn-repos/proj-test/db', transa ction '1-1', path '/trunk'. The new projB is being added to the trunk directory of projA. I have read the section "Adding Projects" in http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.1/ch05s04.html In that book, projects are added at once. But,I would like to add them one by one as new projects become ready to go. What is the proper command and/or how that can be done? Thanks. Banani

• Using the JNotify library, how can you tell if a deleted file was a file or a directory?

  For those unfamiliar with JNotify, this is a library which provides an easy way to monitor events in a directory. For instance, when a file gets deleted in the selected folder, the method "fileDeleted" gets called, along with a few parameters. Here's an example of the fileDeleted method: public void fileDeleted(int wd, String rootPath, String name) { print("deleted " + rootPath + " : " + name); } Now, I would like to know if the deleted file was a file or directory. My usual approach is to create a new File object with the given path, and use the methods isFile() and isDirectory() However, since this file is already deleted, these methods always return false. So here's my concrete question: I have the path to a deleted file or directory, how can I tell wether it was a file or a directory? Is there a workaround to this? What's the best practice to do here? • TreeView Control unexpected event behavior

  Hi all, In the MSDN is writen about TreeNode that: "By default, a node is in selection mode." "To put a node into selection mode, set the node's NavigateUrl property to an empty string." "When a node is in selection mode, use the SelectAction property to specify which event or events are raised when a node is selected." "Setting TreeNodeSelectAction value TreeNodeSelectAction.Select Raises the SelectedNodeChanged event when a node is selected." Please see TreeNode Here is the problem and possibly a bug in the control: When I set the TreeNode object PopulateOnDemand value to true and call the Collapse() function on that node. Then the TreeNodeExpanded event is raised in addition to the SelectedNodeChanged event. This is in complate contradiction to what is writen in the MSDN. According to the MSDN this sould happen only if TreeNodeSelectAction Property is set to TreeNodeSelectAction.SelectExpand value. Does some know whats the cause for that? • Rebuilding an Opensource Iphone Project but got too many errors

  Downloaded an opensource sample Iphone project and when I compiled, everything is OK. This project has alot of C files. So, I try to rebuilding this project from scratch just to see if I can duplicate it. I make sure all the inlcudes files there, the path is correct, all the libraries there. I check original project settings and make sure if they have any specific search path and I need to follow. Anyway, I follow the exact settings but this time my duplicated project got some 1500 errors. alot of them generated from inside those C files. So, what's wrong? everyone got some tips on that why I got so many errors? I followed everything I follow from the original project.

• postgresql duplicate table names best practice

  My company has a handful of apps that we deploy in the websites we build. Recently a very old app needed to be included along side a newer app and there was a conflict w/ a duplicate table name needed to be used by both apps. We are now in the process of updating an old app and there will be some DB updates. I'm curious what people consider best practice (or how do you do it) to help ensure these name collisions don't happen. I've looked at schema's but not sure if thats the right path we want to take. As the documentation prescribes, I don't want to "wire" a particular schema name into an application and if I add schema's to the user search path how would it know which table I was referring to if two schema's have the same table name. although, maybe I'm reading to much into this. Any insights or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

• How can I set up private, per-user sections on Joomla?

  For this weekend's GiveCamp project, my team has been tasked with adding some functionality to an existing Joomla-powered website for a non-profit. A certain type of user will login, and have access to a personal area where they can upload files, check for messages, see tasks that have been assigned, etc. Each user would have their own area. They would not be creating pages, and their information would only be visible to themselves (or a site-administrator, of course. No sort of weird HIPAA privacy involved). None of us have worked with Joomla before, but we'd like to help this non-profit. We're not sure if we're searching using the wrong terms, or if we're just not finding it. Is such a solution possible in Joomla? And/or are we better off building some standalone solution that interfaces with the same mySQL database as Joomla?

• How do you share pre-calculated data between calls to a Rails web service?

  I have a Rails app that allows users to build up a network structure and then ask questions about how to navigate around it. When adding nodes and connections these are just saved to the database. At the point you make a query of the network I calculate the shortest path from any node to any other node. Constructing this in memory takes a while (something I need to fix), but once it is there, you can instantly get the answer to any of these path questions. The question is... How do I share this network between calls to the website, so each request doesn't regenerate the paths network each time? Note: I am hosting this on apache server using passenger (mod ruby) Thoughts?

  I've used Ubuntu for almost a year and I pretty much don't like the Unity environment and I installed BackTrack R3 in my laptop which uses GNOME 2.32 and I'm much impressed with that and made a decision to move to GNOME but, it is currently in version 3.x and it has been said that there is no GNOME 2.x versions are supported. I don't like the new GNOME and surfed the internet for finding a distro with that version and support. But, I can't find one. Can you specify a good distro with GNOME 2.x and Debian package installers?
