• Not able to access Silverlight.net and ONLY Silverlight.net - All other domains work!

  Alrighty folks, I have an extremely odd problem. I am able to surf the web fine with one odd (and really annoying at the moment) exception: Microsoft's Silverlight.net. Every other site that I go to works just fine. This is quite frustrating because I'm in the middle of programming a web app in Silverlight 4.0, and whenever I do a search for any code examples, tutorials, or whatnot at least 50% of the results are hosted in the silverlight.net forums. The error message that I get is: Oops! Google Chrome could not find www.silverlight.net It doesn't work in my other browsers either (both IE and FireFox). What's odd, is that while the error message would lead me to assume it's a DNS error, I can ping the URL just fine. • Windows Vista Wrong Certificate With SNI

  I'm setting up SNI on an apache server and I thought things were going well. I have two URLs from different domains that point at the same site. I have one virtual host setup for each with the appropriate certificate for each. One of the certificates is valid but the other is self-signed (waiting on GoDaddy for the real cert). If I test the different URLs in Firefox, Safari and Opera all works well. I get no errors for the URL with the valid certificate and I get a self-signed warning for the other. However, in Internet Explorer 8 and Google Chrome, both URLs return the valid certificate (even if its not valid for the specific site). So for the one site, I get a valid certificate. For the other, I get a warning about the cert being for a different site. I tried switching the order of the vhosts and it made no difference. I know that Chrome and IE both use Window's HTTP stack so I understand why the behavior is the same for the two. What I don't understand is why I'm seeing this behavior.

• Blocking of certain file downloads

  I have a problem where I cannot completely download a certain file from a server. The file is 1.9MB in size but only 68% is downloaded and then it hangs. I tried and these cases, which failed: Downloaded the file with HTTP Downloaded the file with FTP Moved the file to different FTP and web servers behind the ISA firewall Tried with IIS 6.0 & IIS 7.0 Multiple download clients. Which included FireFox, FileZilla (on Windows) and wget (on Linux) This worked: Downloading other files from the same location on the server. Both bigger and smaller and in size than the original. FTP and HTTP worked. Earlier version of this file (.DLL) works. It is as if the content of this file has an influence on this file being served. Network architecture: Client Machine - Internet (ISP) - ISA Server - IIS 7.0 The only constants are the ISP, Cisco router and the ISA server. Is it possible that something is rejecting the download because of the contents of the file? I am hoping ISA is the culprit... I am not a ISA expert is there somewhere I can look to establish if it is indeed ISA causing this? Update: Splitting the file into two parts with a hex editor results in one half of the file being served correctly and the other part not. Zipping the file results in the file being downloaded successfully. However this is not an option for this particular scenario. Renaming the file and its extension also doesn't work. Update 2009/10/22: It does NOT seems to be ISA that is causing this problem. We connected a laptop (running IIS) on an available public IP and still the file download to 68% before it hanged. The two remaining components are the ISP and the Cisco 800 series router. Anyone knows about an issue on the router perhaps?

• Getting Started in SuSE as an Ubuntu User

  I am not a Linux newbie, but haven't touched SuSE in a very very long time (last time I tried it, it was SuSE 7!). Finally now I felt like giving it a try, and many things seem strange or unnecessarily complex. I have a series of questions. How do I ensure that my packages are uptodate? It sounds silly, but I tried the obvious methods already. I have disabled the default repositories that show up when you do zypper lr, and added Tumbleweed and packman repositories (Essentials, Multimedia, Extra). Then I did a sudo zypper ref --force and then sudo zypper dup, and it tells me many dependencies are not met. I have already added solder.allowVendorChange=true to /etc/zypp/zypp.conf, so it should not care which repository the latest versions are in, and just upgrade to it. Even when I chose to skip the packages with unmet dependencies, and seemed like quite a bit happened in the background, I opened Firefox afterwards and the version was 7! I am guessing things did not go as expected. But of course this is not a problem with SuSE, but I am not understanding the system right. How do I do it right? When I start typing arguments of a command, for example sudo zypper install, when I type sudo zypper ins and keep hitting TAB, nothing happens! It always worked in Ubuntu and I feel very uneasy with this. Is this how SuSE is supposed to be? When I try to install something, and I start writing its name, even though the package exists and I am sure of it, hitting TAB does not autocomplete it. This is also quite inconvenient. Why is it not happening? There are many things in SuSE that are really great, and I think I will stay with it and not go back to Ubuntu once I settle these very rudimentary issues. But right now they are giving me a lot of grief! Please help!

• Connecting to a subdomain severs the connection to the domain itself. What's going on?

  Hi all. We have a website on a third-party server (server leased and shared with other websites) and the server provides access to our SQL Server database through a subdomain in the form of mssql.DomainName.com. I was told to use SQL Management Studio Express to connect to this subdomain in order to manage the database. After a few tries and getting many "Timeout" messages, I finally manage to connect to the server; everything's fine. But now I can't connect to DomainName.com anymore. Trying to browse DomainName.com using Firefox, it tries to "lookup" DomainName.com address and fails, telling me "the server was not found". I have to disconnect Management Studio from the server and wait a couple of hour for DomainName.com to become available again, and after that, trying to reconnect to the SQL Server again repeats the scenario. While I can't browse DomainName.com directly, I can use a proxy to connect to it, meaning that the problem is somehow related to a DNS my computer tries to ask to translate the name to the corresponding IP. Anyone seen anything like this before? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

• Computer freezing while watching Flash videos from net

  I have a Windows 7 home basic, while watching videos from net (within 5 minutes) computer starts to freeze and shows 100 percent CPU usage. I first thought it's a browser issue but watching videos from different browsers also has the same issue. My system runs the latest Firefox browser and all my plugins (including Flash) is up-to-date. After this when I shutdown/restart the computer it will go to the login window with out any problem. From there when I tried to log in to any account, the system starts to freeze and again I have to start and run Windows in safe mode (which doesn't show any problem). I read it in an article to do these steps CMD->sfc/scannow chkdsk after that only my system works normally, even now I can't watch any videos on the net otherwise it starts freezing( I can watch downloaded videos in computer without a problem) and have to do the whole process once more (which takes a lot of time). while running sfc/scannow its showed results that some of the files are corrupted and it could not be repaired. Can this be the cause for freezing of my computer while running Flash videos? or is it a hardware related problem? What different steps do I have to take to correct those corrupt files? System restore works only some times.

  Hi, I'm having pretty similar problems as described in case 139099, but the fix there doesn't seem to work for me. Here's the details: Server: Win2003Srv R2 SP2 (stadalone, not a member of a domain). IIS6, TCP/443 (https). Anonymous access disabled. Integrated Windows authentication enabled. Local useraccouts Each useraccount has own virtual folder with change access and read access to site root. The 'adsutil NTAuthenticationProviders "NTLM"' -thing set to site root and useraccount's virtual folder. Client: Win7 Enterprise Member of a AD-Domain IE8 Allows three login attepts then fails. Using [webservername][username] in the logon window (Windows security) Logon using other browsers (Chrome and Firefox) works OK. The Web services log shows one 401.2 and two 401.1 events. The Security Event log shows two events, first is Fauilure Audit (680), The second event is Fauilure Audit (529) with these details: Logon Failure: Reason: Unknown user name or bad password User Name: [username] Domain: [webservername] Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: NtLmSsp Authentication Package: NTLM Workstation Name: [MyWorkstation] Caller User Name: - Caller Domain: - Caller Logon ID: - Caller Process ID: - Transited Services: - Source Network Address: [999.999.999.999] Source Port: 20089 Any ideas appreciated.

• Ubuntu inside VirtualBox is slow

  I am running an Ubuntu instance on VirtualBox inside XP. Here are the details: Host: Windows XP Pro Guest: Ubuntu 8.10 Total RAM: 3GB RAM For VM: 1GB Total Video Memory: 128MB Video Memory for VM: 40MB Hard Drive: 200GB Hard Drive for VM: 30GB Processor: 2.80GHz Core Duo The problem is that whenever I am inside the virtual machine, things seem so much slower in general. For example Firefox, Eclipse take longer to load, dragging windows show a lag etc. I have tried running Ubuntu before (not inside a VM) and it seemed fantastically fast. So I am disappointed to have to deal with this situation. But I need access to the XP partition without having to reboot and hence the attempt. I am surprised with the perceived slowness since the whole world seems to be doing virtualization and I cannot imagine everyone works on slow systems knowingly. My question is - is there something I should be doing to boost performance? Am I doing something wrong? This is my home machine and I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask. Thanks.

• How to download video from a website that uses flash player but

  Possible Duplicate: Download Flash video file from any video site? Livestream.com seems to be using flash player to show both live streams and archived/recorded streams (meaning previously shown streams). I want to download the archived streams. I am assuming that it should be much easier to download archived video from the website compared to the live stream. Firefox plugins like DownloadHelper and all do not work. Any suggestions? If I look at the browsing cache, no matter what the website plays, all files have the same size! If I open them, of course no video gets played. So something clever/funny is going on with the flash player on livestream.com (yes, even the archives videos), so it is definitely not the same as downloading videos from youtube. However, ads played on livestream.com videos are properly stored in browser cache.

• Chrome will not load a web page with an <embed> element

It plays in IE, but not in Firefox or Chrome. My problem: Chrome reports "Could not load VLC Plugin". It seems to be a known problem that the VLC community don't necessarily feel like fixing at the moment, and is a result of Google choosing not to allow some certain kind of plugin. If I disable the plugin I no longer get the message but nothing happens when I click the button. Looking at the console in a debug window I see Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function Sound.html:7 PlaySound Sound.html:7 onclick which suggests Chrome could not find anything else to handle the sound file. How to I tell Chrome to use (e.g.) Windows Media Player? * UPDATE * This is apparently because the VLC plugin is a NPAPI plugin and Chrome no longer supports these. I have uninstalled VLC and this has removed the error on loading the webpage with an embedded sound element, but it still doesn't invoke WMP instead.

• Javascript loading never completes on many sites

  I recently moved country and have found that on many websites the page never finishes loading. In some cases, no content is ever displayed, but the loading will never time out. Loading Developer Tools in Chrome shows me that it is the Javascript files which never load. For example, this BBC article will never load compatability.js, though will load all the other JS files perfectly. Google Maps often fails to finish loading, meaning it's impossible to make searches. There seems to be no pattern to which files will fail to load (i.e. they don't come from the same CDN). I have tried Chrome, Safari and Firefox on OSX 10.8, and Chrome on my girlfriend's OSX 10.7. I have similar issues on the iPad. In many cases, if I can go to the mobile version of the page that seems to load fine. I have run the browsers in private mode, disabled plugins, updated flash, cleared the cache, flushed the DNS cache - though it would seem that if this is happening on other devices, none of this would work anyway. Is this an ISP issue? And if so, why would it be limited to certain JS files and not all? JS files from the same domain work fine, so I'm not really sure what I should be looking for.

  I'm trying to block requests from a certain bot. I've added a request filtering rule, but I know it is still hitting the site because it shows up in Google Analytics. But the bot traffic is still showing up in my analytics. What am I missing?

• All computers on network get stuck waiting for some sites indefinetely

  This happens across three computers, running windows 7 and Ubuntu, firefox, opera, and chrome (all latest versions). I am connected to the internet through a Verizon wireless usb modem. When I try to open some web pages they will never finish loading (and usually never even show anything). The status bar at the bottom of the browser will display "Waiting for X" The servers it gets stuck on include: platform.twitter.com s7.addthis.com connect.facebook.net ajax.googleapis.com 2mdn.net Ive been getting away with just blocking them in AdBlock up until now, however the last two have been causing problems. There are some sites which require googleapis.com to load correctly, and some that wont ever load unless its blocked. eBay requires access to 2mdn.net to load pictures. On top of this its getting really annoying having to update AdBlock across all these computers whenever a new site pops up. I'm hoping there's some easier way to fix this? The different sites causing the freeze indicate to me that it's either a problem on my end (somehow?) or some server side software that got updated with a new bug?

  Is there a way to automatically edit emails before forwarding them? I'm getting email notifications from Foursquare that I want to send to my phone as text messages. I know how to send messages to my number using an email address (I'm in the US and use Verizon) but I don't know how to strip out any unnecessary formatting, like HTML, before the email gets sent. What I want: Ability to strip out HTML Ability to start forwarding at a specific part of the email based on a search (e.g., I might know that Foursquare starts their messages with "Hey hey!" and only want content after that phrase occurs) Ability to truncate at 160 characters Things I've tried: I'm not using Foursquare DM pings through Twitter because I have two Twitter accounts and Twitter only allows a phone to be linked to one account at a time. I'm not willing to change which account it's linked to. I tried to work around the Twitter limitation using Google Voice, but they don't support SMS short codes. I'll compromise on the features I want if I can find a free solution that doesn't require me to set up my own server. I do think this is computer related because it will happen on my computer, not on my phone. edit My current setup: Gmail in Firefox 3.0.15 on Windows XP. I use a netbook as my only personal computer. However, if the only way to accomplish this well is to set up my own mail server or something, I would still want to know that.

  I recently purchased an Intel D2700 MUD motherboard and I cannot find drivers for the Win7 x64 integrated graphics (Intel GMA 3650 aka PowerVR sgs545). The accompanying CD contains Win7 x32 version only. When I run it I got an error: This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. I tried to use online utility Intel Driver Update Utility Graphics. I used Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer without success. First, UAC prompt appear, and then endlessly spinning progress-bar with text "Analyzing computer...". The text in UAC prompt is: Program file name: System Requirements Lab Verified publisher: Husdawg, LLC I downloaded this utility (intel_srldetect_4.5.5.0) and started it from my hard disk. I got an error: A network error occured while attempting to read from the file: C:\Users\Loom\Downloads\SystemRequirementsLab_intel_4.5.5.0.msi Standard VGA driver works for this video card but without hardware acceleration: Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on. Where I can get appropriate driver?

• How can I make my Super keys (Windows Key) behave more like Ctrl/Alt/Shift in Linux

  After using the Ctrl + "arrow keys" for 13 years to switch virtual desktops in X windows, I've been convinced recently to change to using the Super keys instead (the windows key and the context menu key, which I've remapped). This all works fine for the most part. However, something is still picking up the key events that these keys are sending as if they are a normal alphanumeric like key. For example, I first noticed this in Google Docs spreadsheet that if I press the windows key alone over top of a cell, that it starts editing that cell. It doesn't insert anything, it just sends a key event that Firefox sees and starts editing the cell. This caused problems on a collaborative document I was working on as the way Google docs works, it led to me accidentally erasing the data in a few fields before I realised what was going on. I like using the super keys, but I want them to behave more like a Ctrl or Alt key does in that its a modifier key and doesn't send anything until a second key is pressed. My setup is the following: Ubuntu 10.10 XFCE 4 Microsoft Natural Ergo 4000 keyboard (with the logo scratched out) The following is my .Xmodmap file: remove Lock = Caps_Lock keycode 66 = Escape ! • Suspending/Screen Going Off When Still In Use (Ubuntu & Arch)

  I have a laptop (HP Pavilion G6) that was running Ubuntu and for a while now (at least 6 months) has been having a problems randomly suspending whilst still in use with a full battery and still being charged. Originally the problem was with Ubuntu so I first attempted to disable suspend using every way I could find (gui settings + dconf editor) this didn't work and it still kept suspending so I ended up switching to Arch Linux. Unfortunately not long after switching to Arch Linux I ended up experiencing the same problems. So yet again I modified the settings in /etc/systemd/logind.conf to prevent it from suspending and this time it worked, kind of. Now I am experiencing the screen going off and I have to change to a different tty (by using ctrl-alt-fx, which was something I also found I had to do sometimes when waking up from suspend in Ubuntu) to get the screen to go back on. The strange thing is this only happens when running a Linux distros and only occasionally (e.g. it may happen once/twice a week at most). But when it does happen it can happen multiple times in a row. And it only seems to happen when I am using it. This may just mean that it hasn't happened yet when I am not but generally if I leave it to run something or play a video it hasn't occurred only when I am using it regardless of which program I am using (e.g. it has occurred when using firefox, vim, even when using a virtualbox vm). At first I thought it could be the CPU temperature but after monitoring it I discovered it occurred a lot of the time when my CPU was less than 50 °C. I then checked /var/log/* but could not see anything related to it suspending only a few standard things from when it was woken up. I am really out of ideas and really hoping someone can help. • IBM WebSphere Host On-Demand (HoD): Cannot run program with "runprogram" command. What can I do?

  I access a system that uses an IBM Host on Demand client. I am tryig to create a macro to do a hard task (more than 90,000 keys must be pressed to complete it), but to do it easier I need to call some "external" aplications using "runprogram" tag. But I don't know why it does not function (following IBM help - http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/hodhelp/v11r0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.hod.doc/doc/macro/macro.html - did not help...). I am running in Firefox 3.6 and my Java version is jdk1.6.0_20. • Windows 7 doesn't start anymore

  I've experienced some BSOD on windows 7 RC, and some freezing when startup, but today was big surprise, it doesn't start anymore. I tried to start on safe mode and no results too, it shows the starting animation, then a blue screen for less than a second and turns off immediately. The only thing I remember did today is update flash player under Firefox, then chrome stopped working even after logging off, and once restarting, it doesn't start anymore. Anyone experienced the same issue? any hints? [EDIT 3] Solved : Windows 7 have a very smart repair strategy, it works automatically, and it tried every possible fix, what fixed my problem was the system restore to a previous date, all this happened automatically. • mod_rewrite changes case even if not matching RewriteCond?

  I have a really strange problem with my MediaWiki which I want to have articles of the form mywiki.org/MyArticle. Now I got most of it to work using the following code but it mysteriously cannot display the logo anymore. RewriteEngine On # don't rewrite valid requests to files and directories RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_URI} !-f RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_URI} !-d # mywiki.org/MyArticle gets rewritten to mywiki.org/index.php/MyArticle RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L,QSA] Now when I type in mywiki.org/img/logo.jpg in my browser the adress changes to http://wiki.geoknow.eu/Img/logo.jpg (capital I) and I get to the empty article page but the image is definitely there (in my document root under the img folder): /var/www/mywiki.org$ ls img logo.jpg So far so bad. But now it gets really crazy: When I add RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/.*\.jpg my adress still gets rewritten and my access log says - - [05/Dec/2012:16:30:21 +0100] "GET /Img/geoknow_logo.jpg HTTP/1.1" 404 509 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0" Where does that capital I in Img come from? The rule is not even executed because at least one condition is definitely not met now and I also don't have any to lowercase-transformation defined anywhere. What is happening there and how can I repair this? P.S.: Now all of the sudden the problem went away (the image is displayed as it should and there is no capital replacement anymore. What can cause this and why does it spontanously appear and disappear?

• Localhost stop resolving/serving local site after a few clicks IIS 7.5

  previously I have searched tried to find the answer from a previous question, however Im not sure it was resolved. I could comment on the question to find more, so decided to post a new question. Previous question found (http://serverfault.com/questions/314333/localhost-stop-resolving-after-a-few-minutes-iis-7-5) So I set up a new website on Windows 7 IIS 7.5 ... I give it a host header and in the hosts file I add the entry for 127.0.0.1 and browse the site. After about the second or third time of trying to click around on the local site, it starts hanging ... just seems to be looking like its trying to load, but just eventually comes back in Firefox with "The connection was reset" (takes about 30-50 secs before this happens). I then used a program like CurrPorts, to view the ports that are listening, and for the initial request it all seems good. Now after the site is hanging, I dont see the hit coming through anymore. Its as if the browser loses touch with IIS or something. If I open a different browser, works fine for about 2 clicks or so, then same problem. Anyone know what could be causing this? Or how to resolve?

• Linksys SFE2000 Interface

  I have a real problem with a layer 3 Linksys switch. First, every time it looses power, it seems to reset back to an older config. Not only this, but when this happens it looses interface settings on one subnet. This would not be a problem but I am completely unable to get to the interface on the working side. It allows me to log on and then just displays a blank screen. I have tried this on: IE6 IE7 IE8 IE9 Firefox 3.5 Opera Chrome All with the same results, except for Opera, which loads half the interface but nothing I can really use. I really need to get onto this switch so I can sort out routing and VLAN tagged ports, so if anyone has any ideas on either of these issues please let me know ASAP! Thanks! Also, due to its location and my lack of laptops with serial connections I cannot putty into it. UPDATE: Looked into this a bit more and it looks like this model of switch does not save the current config to boot unless you make sure to save it yourself, which explains the first issue, however the broken interface is more worrying!
