  • How to recover basic networking utilities on Debian?

    I am administrating a small server for LAN, providing basic services such as web-proxy, ldap, kerberos, afs, etc. Yesterday there was a power cut so server halted. When I restarted it no network interfaces were available and configured. I tried restarting networking daemon but it just exited with 0 status. So I tried to run one of the interfaces manually, but ifup and ifdown commands simply are not there. No only in PATH, but they disappeared from /sbin. So my question is: how can I recover these network utilities?

    I've been able to find a zillion libraries for generating JSON in Classic ASP (VBScript) but I haven't been to find ANY for parsing. I want something that I can pass a JSON string and get back a VBScript object of some sort (Array, Scripting.Dictionary, etc) Can anyone recommend a library for parsing JSON in Classic ASP?

  • What should be taken into consideration when deploying Windows 8 in a domain environment?

    Edit: Reformulating the question: We have ordered new laptops but before they arrive, our development team is trying to decide whether to install Windows 8 or stick with Windows 7. We have already tested on isolated machines, but we have not yet been allowed to add the machines to the domain. Before we approach the networking group to discuss adding Windows 8 machines to the domain, we need more information on what changes / issues to expect in moving from Windows 7. Are there any aspects we should consider that are specific to Windows 8 clients? Thus far, I've gotten the following feedback: Windows Administrative Shares are disabled New set of Group Policy templates Changes to proxy server settings Additional items along these lines would be helpful. We're not looking for items related to Windows GUI changes, but instead primarily items related to having the machine live and be used on the domain.

    The reason I asked this question is that I wanted to create a helper class for Remoting instantiation, and wanted to pass the appropriate app.exe.config (or web.config) file path to the RemotingConfiguration.Configure method, depending on the caller. Is there a way I could get the name of the config file for both Win and Web apps without checking if the application is Web or WinForms?

  • Does Marshal.ReleaseComObject call the garbage collector ?

    Hi, I was asked this question today by a colleague, and couldn't find any clue on the Internet... Can someone tell me if calling Marshall.ReleaseComObject()directly calls the garbage collector ? As I understand it, it only removes COM references, and then the G.C. cleans memory on its next pass, but I can be mistaken... Thanks in advance for your help!

    Website is developed on JSF, Servlet, using apache web server. In my website, I accept data submission from few restricted websites using HTTP POST method. We exchange some secure key to ensure that correct source is sending data. But is there any way to ensure that the data is submitted from specific domain / IP address only? In application level I can check request.header('Referer') , but some proxy or firewall might hide the referer. Can this configuration done on firewall or webserver level to authenticate server to server communication? Eg. Say my website is a payment gateway website, integrated with www.abc.com. I want only abc.com to submit data. So a user using abc.com should be able to submit data to my website only through abc.com, and not any other website.

    Hi, In .NET is it possible to get the HttpContext of the current page from within an external class? So, for example in my page test1.aspx codebehind I've got: Dim blah As New FeedWriter() blah.Run() But inside FeedWriter.vb, can I get the HttpContext of test1.aspx? Or would I have to pass it in to Run()? (I'm unwilling to do the latter because FeedWriter implements an interface which will need to be re-written if it's to take arguments) Cheers, Matt

    I like to use wcf (windows communication foundation) with windows authentication. Do I need Active directory for this purpose? How the server knows about the identity of the client? If someone can found out the pass of the client that is using the wcf services, can he create the same user name on different computer and use the password to access the wcf services ?     I have made a simple silverlight application : everything is working fine but I am unable to use silverlight user control as my aspx page shows only embedded object code. I have also tried to register the silverlight control with the following code: <%@ Register Assembly="System.Web.SilverLight" Namespace="System.Web.UI.SilverLightControls" TagPrefix="asp" % but it did not work.I want to do this, so that I would able to pass parameter to silverlight control from my aspx page. How should I register the silverlight user control in my aspx page?I am using silverlight 3.0 version.

    I am currently setting up a Linux server for a WIFI access-point. When ever someone who is connected to the hotspot/access-point? tries to reload a page they get forced onto the one page. Note: this wont have internet access! ie: user tries accessing www.google.com = it returns 192.168.1.200 or example.domain I've read that "dnsmasq" can be used to redirect any external addresses to an internal address. but haven't had any luck. Anyone have an example of a config for "dnsmasq"? I have also read that this can be done through a proxy?

However, this only works if the file is local. If I was to fetch the image such that: import urllib2 resp = urllib2.urlopen("http://upload.com/people/tom.png") How would I pass resp.fp as a file object instead of writing it to a file and passing the filename? Is this possible?

Apart from that I want the new class to behave exactly like the original, so I chose to implement the changes using inheritance. However, when I try from pysparse import spmatrix class ll_mat(spmatrix.ll_mat): pass this results in the following error TypeError: Error when calling the metaclass bases cannot create 'builtin_function_or_method' instances What is this causing this error? Is there a way to use delegation so that my new class behaves exactly the same way as the original?

  • Splitting a test to a set of smaller tests

    I want to be able to split a big test to smaller tests so that when the smaller tests pass they imply that the big test would also pass (so there is no reason to run the original big test). I want to do this because smaller tests usually take less time, less effort and are less fragile. I would like to know if there are test design patterns or verification tools that can help me to achieve this test splitting in a robust way. I fear that the connection between the smaller tests and the original test is lost when someone changes something in the set of smaller tests. Another fear is that the set of smaller tests doesn't really cover the big test. I am bit confused on how to keep track of selected item(of that collection) and pass that to client. Any ideas?   • Delphi / ADO : how to get result of Execute() ?

    I have declared AdoConnection : TADOConnection; and successfully connected to the default "mysql" database (so, no need to pass that code). Now, taking baby steps to learn, I would like to AdoConnection.Execute('SHOW DATABASES', cmdText); which seems to work ok, in the sense that it doesn't throw an exception, but I am such a n00b that I don't know how I can examine the result of the command :-/ Halp!

  • Linux (Kubuntu 9.10): Strange DNS problem [seems to be IPv6 issue]

    Hi, I'm experiencing strange problems with my Kubuntu 9.10 when doing DNS requests from various applications. The requests are extremely slow, so loading any pages in Firefox or Konqueror, doing package installations in Kpackagemanager and other apps is really painful, while for example Opera doesnt have any problems, and ping is normally fast as well for DNS pings. I checked the proxy settings of both the used applications as well as of the general system and there are none, so to me it doesn't seem as there was something inbetween.. Does anybody have an idea on what to check for possible problem sources or how to solve this ? I'm behind a DSL home router which does the DHCP (and works well with my other computer). Any kind of advice would be really helpful. Edit: It seems to be some kind of IPv6 problem, as I could get it to work by disabling IPv6 explicitly in Firefox. Is there a general solution to this ?
