This is the editEmployee Action controller, so while edit page is displayed i want to display a selectvalue in dropdownbox,since "SelectList" takes 3 parameters one for value,one for text and other is for selected value, here i'm not getting what should i pass in 3rd parameter, coz its asking an object for selected value.   • Strange DNS problem [seems to be IPv6 issue]

    Hi, I'm experiencing strange problems with my Kubuntu 9.10 when doing DNS requests from various applications. The requests are extremely slow, so loading any pages in Firefox or Konqueror, doing package installations in Kpackagemanager and other apps is really painful, while for example Opera doesnt have any problems, and ping is normally fast as well for DNS pings. I checked the proxy settings of both the used applications as well as of the general system and there are none, so to me it doesn't seem as there was something inbetween.. Does anybody have an idea on what to check for possible problem sources or how to solve this ? I'm behind a DSL home router which does the DHCP (and works well with my other computer). Any kind of advice would be really helpful. Edit: It seems to be some kind of IPv6 problem, as I could get it to work by disabling IPv6 explicitly in Firefox. Is there a general solution to this ?

In other words, I would like to generate a collection of n objects and pass it into a function which generates random data strings and numbers. Is there anything to do this? Think of it as a Lorem Ipsum for object data. Constraints around numerical ranges etc. are not necessary, but would be a bonus.

  • Blocking the Apple OS X App Store

    Being the evil corporate IT overlords we need to block the new OS X App Store. As you may be aware the 10.6.6 update installs the App Store App which allows users to download and install apps without admin privileges. Some Suggestions: Don't update to 10.6.6+ Use parental controls Presumably some OD policy (if you have an OD server which we don't) Block the App store by DNS or Proxy Not updating to 10.6.6+ isn't really a long term solution as it contains security fixes and new Macs will come with it anyway. Blocking the App store at a network level doesn't solve laptop users. Ideally a simple system preference or editing of a plist that can be pushed out by ARD would be the best solution. Please note the question isn't should we block the App store, it's how we can block the App store.

  • squid running out of sockets

    I have a setup where squid sits in front of a java server and acts as a reverse proxy. Recently i've load tested the site and if i fire 100 threads at it each making a request using jmeter i start getting errors in my load test tool like 'no route to host' even though the load test tool and the server are on the same machine. if i run the following command where port 82 is the port my squid server is running on: netstat -ann | grep 82 | wc -l i get 22000 or something and most of them are in TIMED_WAIT. i'm thinking that maybe the huge number of sockets in the TIMED_WAIT state are starving the box of resources.

  • W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache?

    I'm just preparing the setup of a new VPS where I will migrate a WordPress blog with a good traffic (currently, around 40k pageviews a day), and I was thinking about the caching strategy. I've found different ideas and recommendations, but from previous experiences I will setup a Nginx+PHP-FPM+MySQL (LEMP) system on a Linode VPS. I've read also about setting Nginx as a reverse proxy with Apache, and even using Varnish too, but I don't know if all of this can benefit the speed/performance of the blog (that's the only thing that will be installed on the VPS). The question now is... would you recommend W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache? I've used W3 on some blogs, but I haven't noticed great benefits and don't need all its options, so I think I could give the veteran WP Super Cache a try. Besides, some users have complained about W3 complex configuration and lack of performance (even consumig more CPU) on some cases.

  • CheckBox checked state in a ListView

    I'm using a ListView with CheckBox, but as most of you know, when you roll down the scroll, a checked CheckBox gets unchecked as you roll up back the scroll. So i've been reading and i found out that you can pass (using getView) the id of the CB to the position parameter of getView to save the CheckBox state! But i can't use getView with SimpleCursorAdapter, can i? Because i'm using bindView! Thanks

Like this: $if myvar=="string1": $passed argument1 ............ $if myvar =="striung2": $passed argument2 If say myvar is "string1" and I pass passed = "AAA" then I have AAA argument1 on my page, but the other if statements get replaced by empty string? How to avoid that? I.e. how to leave other statements intact?

How should I set it up? Is QoS the wrong solution to avoiding torrents slowing down browsing to a crawl? Should I set up a proxy and traffic shaping instead?

  • how do you make a "concurrent queue safe" lazy loader (singleton manager) in objective-c

    Hi, I made this class that turns any object into a singleton, but I know that it's not "concurrent queue safe." Could someone please explain to me how to do this, or better yet, show me the code. To be clear I want to know how to use this with operation queues and dispatch queues (NSOperationQueue and Grand Central Dispatch) on iOS. Thanks in advance, Rich EDIT: I had an idea for how to do it. If someone could confirm it for me I'll do it and post the code. The idea is that proxies make queues all on their own. So if I make a mutable proxy (like Apple does in key-value coding/observing) for any object that it's supposed to return, and always return the same proxy for the same object/identifier pair (using the same kind of lazy loading technique as I used to create the singletons), the proxies would automatically queue up the any messages to the singletons, and make it totally thread safe. IMHO this seems like a lot of work to do, so I don't want to do it if it's not gonna work, or if it's gonna slow my apps down to a crawl.     My office PC has a one wireless network card and there are three available wifi connections: primary, backup and backup of a backup (grin). Is it possible for me to use all three simultaneously. If this results in an increase in bandwidth that's well and good, but primary reason is every now and then one of the network fails and i have to switch back and forth between the available networks by disconnecting, viewing available networks and connecting to next one hoping its running. Do i need more than one network card or a software e.g. a proxy.
