• Ubuntu 12.10 Unity and Gnome not showing correctly after log in

  Hello Ubuntu community. Since last Saturday when I was about to log into my ubuntu session as always using Unity interface, I came across with something that never happened to me before. When I logged in, the screen only showed the Desktop wallpaper but neither the bar from the top screen neither the dash bar from the left side appear, and after a few minutes of being logged in, I found myself being spammed with Ubuntu errors windows, over and over again. I logged out using ctrl+alt+del and tried my Gnome sessio. But I got exactly the same problem. I'm only able to use Gnome Classic and Classic (No Effects) Can anybody help? Hope a reply soon, and thanks in advance.

• Checking for cross-site scripting vulnerabilities in Perl web applications

  I'm putting together some notes for a dev team on how to write secure Perl code - especially taking into account the current OWASP top 10 web application vulnerabilities. For cross-site scripting I've included information on ensuring that all output to the browser is checked and escaped where necessary, but I'm looking for more automated mechanisms that would mean a developer doesn't have to think about every output statement and, potentially, miss one. Perl's 'taint' function sounds like it should be a help because it distrusts all user input, but it doesn't complain on tainted data being output to the browser. Apart from checking all output statements individually (probably by calling a generic sanitizing function) does anyone have any ideas on how Perl can help with this with existing libraries or techniques?

• A certain flash application causes a system crash

  It's no surprise I guess. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and I have an nvidia (GTS 250) card with the "post-release updates" version of the driver. OFFTOPIC: Yes, it's the solutions manual. I'm self-studying so I don't have a professor to check my work. Please don't judge me :)

• How to structure a project that supports multiple versions of a service?

  I'm hoping for some tips on creating a project (ASP.NET MVC, but I guess it doesn't really matter) against multiples versions of a service (in this case, actually multiple sets of WCF services). Right now, the web app uses only some of the services, but the eventual goal would be to use the features of all of the services. The code used to implement a service feature would likely be very similar between versions in most cases (but, of course, everything varies). So, how would you structure a project like this? Separate source control branches for each different version? Kind of shying away from this because I don't feel like branch merging should be something that we're going to be doing really often. Different project/solution files in the same branch? Could link the same shared projects easily Build some type of abstraction layer on top of the services, so that no matter what service is being used, it is the same to the web application?

• How Easy is it to Code In-Built Videos?

  First time poster so please don't bite my head off. Basically, I'm having a site built for me and I don't really know anything about coding but I'm not too sure if I trust my web developer. I asked him recently about adding a feature where I could display built-in videos like the following page - http://www.ejot.co.uk/buildingfasteners.odl and he quoted me quite a high amount for it. I just wanted to double check with you guys whether this is a difficult feature to add in and whether it justifies a reasonable amount of money on top of what I'm already paying him. • 32 bit ODBC drivers on 64 bit Windows

  Its been a while since I had to use an ODBC driver.  Today I learned That when you install a 32 bit ODBC driver on a 64 bit Windows but it doesnt show up in the Data Sources admin tool because this tool displays only 64 bit drivers. That you can manage a 32 bit ODBC driver on a 64 bit Windows using the 32 bit Data Sources admin tool located here: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe That 64 bit software cant use 32 bit ODBC drivers. • AWN displaying window icons even when Display Launchers Only selected

  I'm using AWN with the DockbarX applet.I have Display Launchers Only checked in the awn dock properties, but I'm still getting window icons displaying for certain apps when they're open. Any ideas? Here's a screenshot, note the Firefox icon at the top of the bar (shaded icon) which is part of the DockbarX applet,then note it displaying again at the bottom of the bar (indicating an open window.) You can see from the Launchers list in the dock properties that it isn't in fact a launcher. (The Yahoo and Gmail launchers are standalone Prism apps, they don't use the FF Prism extension. And if I mouse over the bottom FF icon, it does display the title of the open Firefox window, not anything using Prism.) Any ideas?

• No keyboard input until after GRUB

  I have a computer that I dual boot between Ubuntu 11.10 and Windows 7. I installed Windows first, and Ubuntu second. When I boot, the GRUB menu comes up, showing me the option to select to boot to Ubuntu at the top of the list, and to boot to Windows at the bottom. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, any key I press on the keyboard (connected by USB) does not get any response, so I can't actually select to boot to anything but Ubuntu (which is the default selection). Once Ubuntu loads and I am at the log in screen, then the keyboard (and mouse) work perfectly normally thereafter. Why would my keyboard not work only during GRUB? And how do I fix it?

• SP1 of RadControls for WinForms Q1 2010 released, featuring VS2010 and Client Profile support

  As always, Telerik's plans were closely aligned with Microsoft's release schedule, and we were dedicated to provide VS2010 support even before Visual Studio 2010 was officially launched. Now that the first VS2010 launch event is over, here comes the first of many Telerik Service Packs to support VS2010. This RadControls for WinForms release is the first to provide support for the Client Profile, introduced with .NET3.5, and now default when starting new windows forms projects with VS2010. The Client Profile is a smaller version of the.NET Framework that includes only the assemblies needed for deploying client-based applications, which in turn reduces the size of the application. Basically, the Design time classes are excluded from the Client Profile (CP), because they are only needed for designing and not for running an application.
