  • Is there a way to find out if an iPhone / iPad app is installed already?

    - by eerok512
I'm writing a freeware version of an app and would like to check if a user already has the unfree version installed, and print a message whose contents are conditional on the results of the installation check... anybody know if this is possible? the closest I've come to a solution is to make use of the CFPreferencesSetValue API with a kCFPreferencesAnyUser / kCFPreferencesCurrentHost pairing... I haven't tried it, but based on the documentation it sounds possible. however in my current specific situation this API will not be able to solve my problem, because I want to check for the presence of an app I wrote 4 months ago that didn't write any data to the CFPrefs registry... because back then I didn't know of it nor did I foresee this situation arising... the only way CFPrefs can assist me is in future apps now that I know it exists :) so I'm wondering if there are other ways to do it? any help will be appreciated :)

  • Converting "fr_FR" into "French (France)" in both directions. (Objective-C iPhone)

    - by Janice
I can easily change a short region-code (en_US) into a longer string... but it there an easy way to also move in the other direction? [displayInEnglish displayNameForKey:NSLocaleIdentifier value:regionCountryCode]; "en_US" becomes "English (United States)". "English (United States)" becomes "en_US". I currently store the short region-code in a database.... but when I show some aggregate results... I need to display the longer strings to the user. Or should I just store the longer strings right in the database... and not even worry about "converting" them later? I'm trying to show a "dollars total" for each country. If you were a user... which would you more likely wish to see (for a currency-total list)? A "French" total A "France" total A "French (France)" total A "fr_Fr" total?

  • How do I control the background color during the iPhone flip view animation transition?

    - by Rob S.
I have some pretty standing flipping action going on: [UIView beginAnimations:@"swapScreens" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromLeft forView:self.view cache:YES]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0]; [self.view exchangeSubviewAtIndex:0 withSubviewAtIndex:1]; [UIView commitAnimations]; To Apple's credit, this style of animation is amazingly easy to work with. Very cool, and I've been able to animate transitions, flips, fades etc. throughout the app very easily. Question: During the flip transition, the background visible 'behind' the two views during the flip is white and I'd like it to be black. I've: Set the background of the containing view (self.view above) - no dice. I really thought that would work. Set the background of each view to black - no dice. I didn't think this would work although you give different things a shot to understand better :) Google'd like crazy; keep landing on Safari-related listings. Thanks in advance!

  • IPhone sdk stop the accelerometer from working when something happens.

    - by Harry
    Hi, I am using the accelerometer to move a few UIImageViews around the screen, at the moment the accelerometer only works when a NSTimer is at 0, this is fine. I would also like to make the accelerometer stop again when a different function happens. here is my code at the moment: -(BOOL) accelerometerWorks { return time == 0; } -(void) accelerometer:(UIAccelerometer *)accelerometer didAccelerate:(UIAcceleration *)acceleration{ if(![self accelerometerWorks]) return; valueX = acceleration.x*25.5; int newX = (int)(ball.center.x +valueX); if (newX 320-BALL_RADIUS) newX = 320-BALL_RADIUS; if (newX < 0+BALL_RADIUS) newX = 0+BALL_RADIUS; int XA = (int)(balloonbit1.center.x +valueX); if (XA 320-BALL_RADIUS) XA = 320-BALL_RADIUS; if (XA < 0+BALL_RADIUS) XA = 0+BALL_RADIUS; int XB = (int)(balloonbit2.center.x +valueX); if (XB 320-BALL_RADIUS) XB = 320-BALL_RADIUS; if (XB < 0+BALL_RADIUS) XB = 0+BALL_RADIUS; int XI = (int)(balloonbit3.center.x +valueX); if (XI 320-BALL_RADIUS) XI = 320-BALL_RADIUS; if (XI < 0+BALL_RADIUS) XI = 0+BALL_RADIUS; int XJ = (int)(balloonbit4.center.x +valueX); if (XJ 320-BALL_RADIUS) XJ = 320-BALL_RADIUS; if (XJ < 0+BALL_RADIUS) XJ = 0+BALL_RADIUS; int XE = (int)(balloonbit5.center.x +valueX); if (XE 320-BALL_RADIUS) XE = 320-BALL_RADIUS; if (XE < 0+BALL_RADIUS) XE = 0+BALL_RADIUS; int XF = (int)(balloonbit6.center.x +valueX); if (XF 320-BALL_RADIUS) XF = 320-BALL_RADIUS; if (XF < 0+BALL_RADIUS) XF = 0+BALL_RADIUS; int XH = (int)(balloonbit8.center.x +valueX); if (XH 320-BALL_RADIUS) XH = 320-BALL_RADIUS; if (XH < 0+BALL_RADIUS) XH = 0+BALL_RADIUS; ball.center = CGPointMake (newX, 429); balloonbit1.center = CGPointMake (XA, 429); balloonbit2.center = CGPointMake (XB, 426); balloonbit3.center = CGPointMake (XI, 410); balloonbit4.center = CGPointMake (XJ, 415); balloonbit5.center = CGPointMake (XE, 409); balloonbit6.center = CGPointMake (XF, 427); balloonbit8.center = CGPointMake (XH, 417); } This all works fine, i would now like to stop the accelerometer from working, using the same accelerometerWorks method or a new method, accelerometerWontWork. This is the code that when it is called i would like the accelerometer to stop. (it is very long so i wont put all of it there, but its all the same throughout): -(void) checkCollision{ if (CGRectIntersectsRect(pinend.frame, balloonbit1.frame)){ if (balloonbit1.frame.origin.y pinend.frame.origin.y){ [maintimer invalidate]; levelfailed.center = CGPointMake (160, 235); } } if (CGRectIntersectsRect(pinend.frame, balloonbit2.frame)){ if (balloonbit2.frame.origin.y pinend.frame.origin.y){ [maintimer invalidate]; levelfailed.center = CGPointMake (160, 235); } } if (CGRectIntersectsRect(pinend.frame, balloonbit3.frame)){ if (balloonbit3.frame.origin.y pinend.frame.origin.y){ [maintimer invalidate]; levelfailed.center = CGPointMake (160, 235); } } } I understand that i may have to turn this into a BOOL. Thats fine. If i haven't explained it well please say and i will re write it. Thanks! Harry.

  • Is there an easy way to stream a m3u in iPhone?

    - by marty
I can have a UIWebView with the .m3u file opened, which will go to the webview with a play button displayed, and that automatically goes to the quicktime player and starts playing the stream. But when I press the done button, it goes back to the UIWebView with a little play button in the middle, and from there you can go back to the previous screen (it was selected from a tableview). So I just want it to automatically load the quicktime player in the view. How can I do that?

  • How do you get the viewport scale after pinch/zoom on an iPhone web app?

    - by Loktar
Does anyone know how to get the size in pixels or scale value of the viewport after a user has pinched or double tapped to zoom in/out on a page in JavaScript? I've tried using window.innerWidth but I've had mixed results. Sometimes it seems to accurately give the number of pixels the viewport is showing, however, if I zoom way in on a page and then do a large pinch to zoom back out, window.innerWidth will be around 600-700 even though it is only showing ~200px of the page. The page is only 400px wide and it didn't show the checkered "you've gone too far" background you see when you zoom out beyond the page size. If I do small pinches to zoom in and out, window.innerWidth appears to work just fine. Unfortunately I can't rely on a user only making small pinch gestures :) I've also tried to use the scale property on the gesture event object, but I've found that unreliable because you don't always know the initial scale when you reload the page or use back/forward buttons to navigate to it even when using the meta tag to specify it. Ultimately, I'm trying to make an app that is aware of when a user is trying to zoom out beyond the maximum zoom level so if there is another way to do this I'm interested in hearing about it :) Here's the code I'm using to get the innerWidth: document.body.addEventListener('gestureend', function (evt) { console.log(window.innerWidth); // inaccurate when doing large pinch gestures }, false); Thanks!

  • What's a better way to display a handle for resizing a view on iPhone / iPad?

    - by Christian
I want to display a handle at the corners of a UIView that can be used to resize the view. How can I display the handles floating on the top of everything else and still have a connection to and be in sync with a view? The solution I implemented before looks like this: I put the view into another view that shows the handles on top of the corners. The problem with this approach is that the handles add extra space to the original view's size. Since Apple recommends at least 40 x 40 px for the size of a button, it is not very little space and also goes beyond the visible bounds of the original view. Another problem is that the original view has to be encapsulated in this 'helper view' object and thus becomes a part of something although it really is the main component.

  • View transform seems to be ignored when animating on iphone. Why?

    - by heymon
    I have views that can be rotated, scaled and moved around the screen. I want the view to resize and be orthogonal when the user double tap's the view to edit the textview within. The code is below. Somewhere the transform is getting reset. The NSLog statement below prints the identity transform, but a print of the transform when the animation is complete in transitionDidStop reveals that the transform is what it was before I thought I set it to identity. The view resizes, but it acts like the transform was never set to identity? Any ideas/pointers? originalBounds = self.bounds; originalCenter = self.center; originalTransform = self.transform; r = CGRectMake(0, 0, [UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size.width - 70, 450); [UIView beginAnimations: nil context: NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate: self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector: @selector(transitionDidStop:finished:context:)]; self.transform = CGAffineTransformIdentity; NSLog(@"%@ after set", NSStringFromCGAffineTransform([self transform])); [self setBounds: r]; [self setCenter: p]; [self setAlpha: 1.0]; [UIView commitAnimations]; [textView becomeFirstResponder];

  • iPhone:How to find the control interaction under Touch?

    - by user187532
Hello friends, I have a UILabel control in a view. I want to detect touch event occurred when this label touched. I added the following code, which should work whenever touch happens on the view. - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { // This should be called only when the label is touched, not all the time.. [ [UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.mywebsite.com"] ]; } Whenever that particular label is touched my code should do the process further, not when the touch is happening anywhere in the view. How do i find out the particular label (or) any control is touched under touchesEnded function ? Could someone guide me on this? Thank you.

  • iPhone: App crashes when I click on a cell in table view.

    - by Jack Griffiths
Hi there, Compiling my application works—everything is fine. The only errors I get are by deprecated functions (setText). The only problem is now, is that when I tap on a cell in my table, the app crashes, even though it's meant to push to the next view in the stack. Any solutions are appreciated, if you need any code, just ask. Also, how can I only make sure that one cell goes to only one view? For example: When I tap on CSS, it takes me to a new table with different levels of CSS. WHen I tap on an item in that new view, it comes up with an article on what I just selected. Regards, Jack

  • Best way to show a loading screen in an iPhone app?

    - by pkulak
I'm building what is essentially a web app. Every piece of data has to be fetched from a web API. So, every UITableView that I show takes some amount of time to fill with data and I'm struggling to find a good way to show the user a loading screen. Right now I'm popping up an action sheet, but that just seems a bit wrong. Ideally, I'd popup up a blank view over the tableview with "Loading..." on it, then fade it away when the data comes in, but I can't think of a way to do that in 8 places in my app without massive code duplication.

  • Is there an easy way to change iPhone Application Settings from within an application?

    - by Matt
I've got application settings working just fine. However, I'd like to be able to change my app settings from within my app. It seems as though there should be some kind of generic way to add this functionality to my app without having to recreate all the controls myself. I mean, the code is already written in apple's settings app. Maybe someone wrote this code and open sourced it? (if it is not already available)

  • iPhone: cached profile images from the web - how to find out that remote image changed?

    - by Stefan Klumpp
I'm loading profile pictures from Facebook, cache them on disk and load them into cells of a UITableView. Now I'm wondering, how I can find out when someone has changed his/her profile picture on Facebook that I have to load the new image from the web instead of using the one cached disk. The url of the image is always the same. Is there a lightweight way of doing this without downloading the image and comparing it to the local file?

  • iPhone: Does it ever make sense for an object to retain its delegate?

    - by randombits
According to the rules of memory management in a non garbage collected world, one is not supposed to retain a the calling object in a delegate. Scenario goes like this: I have a class that inherits from UITableViewController and contains a search bar. I run expensive search operations in a secondary thread. This is all done with an NSOperationQueue and subclasses NSOperation instances. I pass the controller as a delegate that adheres to a callback protocol into the NSOperation. There are edge cases when the application crashes because once an item is selected from the UITableViewController, I dismiss it and thus its retain count goes to 0 and dealloc gets invoked on it. The delegate didn't get to send its message in time as the results are being passed at about the same time the dealloc happens. Should I design this differently? Should I call retain on my controller from the delegate to ensure it exists until the NSOperation itself is dealloc'd? Will this cause a memory leak? Right now if I put a retain on the controller, the crashes goes away. I don't want to leak memory though and need to understand if there are cases where retaining the delegate makes sense. Just to recap. UITableViewController creates an NSOperationQueue and NSOperation that gets embedded into the queue. The UITableViewController passes itself as a delegate to NSOperation. NSOperation calls a method on UITableViewController when it's ready. If I retain the UITableViewController, I guarantee it's there, but I'm not sure if I'm leaking memory. If I only use an assign property, edge cases occur where the UITableViewController gets dealloc'd and objc_msgSend() gets called on an object that doesn't exist in memory and a crash is imminent.
