• Resize videos with different widths to a fixed height preserving aspect ratio with ffmpeg

  I'd like to convert a lot of video files to flash video for our company's website. I have a requirement that all of the videos must be in 360p format, so their size would be Nx360. FFMpeg uses -s argument to specify target resolution as WxH. I don't know Width, as it depends on source file aspect ratio. If source is 640x480, target will be 480x360. If source is 848x480, target will be 636x360. Is there a way to do it with some switch of ffmpeg? That it will preserve aspect ratio and I'll only specify the height of target video? I could easily solve it by making a program that will launch ffprobe to get source video size, calculate aspect ratio and then calculate a new width.

• How to brute force keepass with certain letters and characters

  I forgot my password to keepass but I know pretty much what letters and the order they go in, but I'm not sure if I put anything before or after my "main" password or capitalized anything. I tried every combo I could think of but I still can't get in (invalid/wrong key error). I also enabled use master password and key file(on my flash drive). My question is is there a way to brute force keepass with only certain letters and characters in order? An example of the password would be userab12c3d45 sometimes with quotes or underscores at the beginning and end. Or Is there a word list generator that will do this?

  Hi, I'd like to verify a user's email address by sending them a verify-email-message. Do you know of a good Rails plugin that they've used or seen? Since I didn't see anything good via Google, at this point, my thought is: Add a verified boolean field to the user model. Default false. After user is added (unverified), combine email with a salt (a secret), and create the sha1 hash of the email/salt combo. The result is the verification. Send a welcoming / verification email to the user. Email includes a url that has the email address and verification as GET args to a verify action on my server. The verify action recomputes the verification using the supplied email and checks that the new verification matches the one in the url. If it does, then the User rec for the email is marked 'verified' Also will provide action to re-send the verification email. Any comments on the above? Thanks, Larry

• Powerbook G4 unresponsive on wake?

  I have a Powerbook G4 17" and I recently updated to the Mac OS 10.5.8 and got a monitor. I put it to sleep by closing the lid and sometimes it resumes normally and sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't matter if it's on sleep for a day or 10 minutes, it just happens randomly. It wakes up, but the screen doesn't flash blue for a few seconds like it normally would, indicating that it found the second monitor. It just wakes up, and a picture appears on both screens and the mouse moves, but nothing responds. The only way I can make it work again is by holding down the power button until it shuts down and then turning it on again. this frustrating because then I have to reopen all my programs and Safari tabs. I tried resetting the PMU by unplugging everything and taking out the batter, then holding the power button for five seconds, but it has the same problem no matter what I do.

• Can django's auth_user.username be varchar(75)?

  Django's auth_user.username field is 30 characters. That means you can't have auth_user.username store an email address. If you want to have users authenticate based on their email address it would seem you have to do some wonky stuff like writing your own authentication backend which authenticates based on (email, password) instead of (username, password) and furthermore, figuring out what you're going to put in the username field since it is required and it is a primary key. Do you put a hash in there, do you try to put the id in there... bleh! Why should you have to write all this code and consider edge cases simply because username is too small for your (farily common) purposes? Is there anything wrong with running alter table on auth_user to make username be varchar(75) so it can fit an email? What does that break if anything?

Here is my requirements: I need 2 HDMI input for 2 HD Camera the signal captured will be encoded with Adobe Live Encoder (does it support dual input sources?   I am trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 on a new Lenovo X201 or T410 laptop. Setup halts with the following pop-up: A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive you can safely remove it for this step. The CD drive is obviously working, as it's booting from CD to get to this point. The only thing I can think is that it is to do with the fact they have SSD disks in - but that's just a guess.

There are two ways to set/read the cross domain cookies: Creating IFrame on A.com pointing to a page on B.com which creates the cookie and pass that information by creating another IFrame on B.com side pointing to A.com, either using window.name or in location.href.hash A.com page makes a XHR/JSONP call to B.com web service/page that has the following headers and it also sets up the cookie and returns the value. • Why my VPN doesn't work anymore?

  I have openvpn server running on debian lenny. There is only one client - and it is running Windows 7 64-bit. This has worked for few months without any problems. And now, let's say for the last 7 days, it doesn't work at all. I connect successfully from client to the server, but I can't access anything through VPN. I have set it up so that all internet traffic is routed through VPN, and now when I connect with the client, the client can't do anything on the net (open any webpage, ping google, anything ...). Can you help me to figure out what's wrong ? I don't know where to start. I've also tried to connect to another openvpn server (I've installed and configured openvpn on another server, and when I try to connect to it result is the same). So I think there's something wrong with client ... • Data Structure Behind Amazon S3s Keys (Filtering Data Structure)

  I'd like to implement a data structure similar to the lookup functionality of Amazon S3. For those of you who don't know what I'm taking about, Amazon S3 stores all files at the root, but allows you to look up groups of files by common prefixes in their names, therefore replicating the power of a directory tree without the complexity of it. The catch is, both lookup and filter operations are O(1) (or close enough that even on very large buckets - S3's disk equivalents - both operations might as well be O(1))). So in short, I'm looking for a data structure that functions like a hash map, with the added benefit of efficient (at the very least not O(n)) filtering. The best I can come up with is extending HashMap so that it also contains a (sorted) list of contents, and doing a binary search for the range that matches the prefix, and returning that set. This seems slow to me, but I can't think of any other way to do it. Does anyone know either how Amazon does it, or a better way to implement this data structure?

• Windows 7 Slowness following Virtual PC and Visual Studio Install

  I'm running Windows 7 32bit on a 3.2ghz Pentium D with 2gb RAM and a 1TB SATA hard drive. My system was running as fast as it ever has until I installed Visual Studio and Virtual PC a few days ago. Ever since - regardless of whether either application has been running the system has been running incredibly slowly. For example flash video plays jumpily, 3D games that used to run fine are now unplayable and even the smallest amount of multitasking makes the system unusable. I'm confident there is no virus or other such things present following scans in safemode and I'm fairly confident I've made no other changes to my system. Any ideas - I've run out of things to try!

  Hello, Am wondering if there would be any security flaw in this approach. I am writing a piece of code which allows users to upload files and another set to download those files. These files can be anything. User uploads the file (any file including .php files), it is renamed to an md5 hash (extension removed) and stored on server. A corresponding mySQL entry is made. The user trying to download the file, uses say download.php to download the file where the md5 file is sent (with the original name). Is there someway in which anyone can exploit the above scenario?

• HP Compaq T20 Thin Clients & Windows Server 2008 R2: RDP Disconnects instantly.

  Hello, I have some HP Compaq T20 Thin Clients connecting to a Windows Server 2003. Now I want to upgrade to 2008 R2, so I tested a trial installation with remote desktop in administration mode. So I try to connect my T20 to the server and... It doesn't matter if I turn off encryption or not it disconnects with an generic error instantly. The T20s have Windows CE embedded with RDP 5.2 installed. Out of curiosity I tried Windows Server 2008 (no R2) and it worked! I tried the same with a Windows 7 machine set up with- no work. I can not update the T20s to Windows NT embedded for example because they only have a low amount of flash memory. It seems the "new" version of RDP coming from Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2 is completely incompatible with the older 5.2 version. • Windows 7 / 8 tool for amplifying sound / equivalent to pavucontrol?

  I'm watching live streamed videos, but the volume sometimes is barely loud enough. With Windows, I can only turn the system volume and the flash volume up to maximum, and then bad luck if that's still not loud enough. On Linux, on the same notebook, I have the same problem, but I can use pavucontrol to amplify the sound volume beyond 100%. Unfortunately, I can't always work on Linux, since Visual Studio and SQL-Server only run on Windows. Is there any tool or way to amplify volume on Windows 7 / 8 , without having to resort to run Linux in a virtual machine?

• Formatted a Bootcamped drive as a dynamic disk, now can't boot to either Mac or Windows

  I was trying to create an extra partition to get a file from the Windows side of my Macbook Air to the Mac side, and I accidentally made the disk dynamic without realizing it. I am now unable to boot to the Mac side (holding Alt to go into the system manager at startup doesn't even list the Mac partition), and the Windows side blue screens during boot (goes so quickly that it doesn't even get to the error code before restarting). What can I do to fix the issue? I don't know how to make a bootable flash drive that a Mac will recognize, and Disk Utility (via Internet Recovery) couldn't do anything.   I wanted to downlaod some of these short videos from chinadaily.com. For example, http://video.chinadaily.com.cn/2013/1012/1388.shtml I have tried NetVideoHunter with Firefox, which works for me for many other sites. But here, NetVideoHunter shows me very small segments of less than 200 KB and when I try to play them (in the NVH panel itself), it says 'Connecting' and then 'Stream not found'. I have seen other question on SuperUser about how to download a Flash video. • for what reason live USB linux images are not 100% persistent?

  I understand that during CD-R times non-persistence had a purpose, but what's the purpose now that pretty much everyone uses USB flash drivers? not to mention USB3 sticks are pretty much 4x faster than my HD raid. I realized that our developer was utilizing php HTTP uploads to handle this and that was causing the slow times & breakdowns. Now, they keep coming at me wanting to use SWFUpload, quoting it is utilized by YouTube, but I'm adamantly against it because -- well, flash.   I have a computer repair service, and can see a few more people wanting Windows 8 updowngraded. Because of New Zealand's internet speeds it takes 1-2 hours to run the download part of the official Windows 8 upgrade tool. This means I have to go back to people the next day. I would like to keep an "offline" version of the Windows 8 upgrade tool on my flash drive, so I can avoid this inconvenience. Obviously it would still require a legit credit card etc, it just comes with the download part not needed. I cannot find such a tool. Does one exist?

  Hi Team, Using: http://home.aland.net/sundman/ to split a complex form in to 4 steps. As well as as the 'next, back and submit' form buttons, I have created a menu above the form: step 1, step 2, step 3, step 4 linking to the hash tags #: #, #1, #2, #3 so the visitor can decide which step they want to view / edit. This works fine in firefox, but in IE and Chrome it does not seem to work. Anyone have experience with hte jQuery history plugin that can tell me the best way to accomplish this?   I'm running the most recent version of Google Chrome. I have had this computer for three weeks now with no problems, now today it just WON'T work for me. I am running windows 8 with a machine that can more than handle Chrome. It keeps freezing up literally every five seconds then it unfreezes. I cannot click links or scroll, but I can switch tabs. I have tried several things. • How to get a good current VMWare browser appliance?

  I'd like to have a small VMWare virtual machine that runs a copy of Firefox, with Flash enabled. (Or some equivalently-capable browser.) I tried doing some Google searching with no luck finding good keywords, and tried looking through VMWare's "marketplace" of VMs, but all I found were things from 2006 or so. Is there a reasonably easy way to get a current one? Ideally, I'd like to just download one somewhere, but in the alternative, a quick how-to guide would be useful. I know I could go through the whole process of getting a full-Linux-install VM and setting things up, but that seems like quite a lot of trouble and ends up with a pretty heavyweight solution to the problem, so I'm hoping there's a simpler way.

But I cannot seem to get it to work for myself. eg. http://wadearnold.com/blog/flash/gzip-compression-is-not-part-of-amf the compression is working for other minetypes I've added to the AddOutputFilterByType so the deflate is working correctly. ive tried the following minetypes; application/x-amf, application-x/amf, application/amf. tho application/x-amf should be the one. Basically just added the minetype to AddOutputFilterByType thats all? Am I missing a setting?

• Problem opening files with Gvim and NERDTree on Windows 7

  Just installed gvim on windows 7 for the first time, and I'm having a problem opening some files. When I open files (I'm doing this through NERDTree,) vim seems to flash up a cmd window for a few second before closing it (too quickly to make out the contents,) and I end up with a C:/Program folder, and a /Files/vim/vimfiles/doc/ in the directory of the file I just opened. I can see it's trying to access C:/Program Files/vim/vimfiles/doc, which is where vim is installed, however it's choking on the space, and I'm not familiar enough with gvim to work out why. Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated.

• How to create a readonly root linux: Can be mounted as writeable for persistent changes?

  I'd like a read only file system that runs almost entirely in RAM but the compact flash or hardrive can be mounted and made writeable to make persistent changes. How do I do this on Linux? I've looked at several tutorials but none really explain how to create such a system with the option of being able to mount the storage device and make persistent changes. I looked at this so far: http://chschneider.eu/linux/thin_client/ I also looked on the old gentoo wiki but the article was very specific to Gentoo. I'll be using a debian based Linux but it would be nice I've someone could explain to me how to do this in pretty generic instructions ,that would work on any Linux distro. Thanks.
