• Sharepoint 2010, get the Distinct Values of a User Profile Property?

  Is there any way in SharePoint 2010 to get the Distinct values of a property accross all users? For example, I want a list of all Departments in the Profile Store. In SQL I can do SELECT DISTINCT(PropertyVal) FROM [ProfileDB].[dbo].[UserProfileValue] WHERE PropertyID = 14 but accessing the SQL Database is a big no-no of course, so I wonder if there is something in the object model? Note that accessing the User Information List on an SPSite is not good enough, as only a fraction of all users is in that list. I want to get it directly from the Profile Store.

• div "top" bug IE and everything else. Big problem

  Hi everyone. I am new in CSS so please help me in this problem. I hope to describe it wright. I am making div named content where my site content is. I made it with z-index:-1; so an image to be over this div. But in Chrome, FF and safari, content became inactive. I cant select text , click on link and write in the forms. So I tried with positive states in the z-index but IE don't know what this means. Damn. So I decided to make conditional div. Here is the code: .content { background:#FFF; width:990px; position:relative; float:left; top:50px; } .content_IE { background:#FFF; width:990px; position:relative; float:left; top: 50px; z-index:-1; } and here is the HTML: <!--[if IE 7]> <div class="content_IE" style="height:750px;"> <![endif]--> <div class="content" style="height:550px;"> Everything is fine with the z-index but the problem is that if there is no top in .content class everything looks fine in IE but there is no space in the other browsers. If i put back the top:50px; there onother 50px like padding in the .content_IE class. I mean that the page looks like I've put top:50px; and padding-top=50px;. I've try everything like margin-top:-50px; padding-top:-50px; and stuff like this but I am still in the circle. It look fine only if there is no top option in .content class. Please help.

• How to Integrate SharePoint 2007/2010 and Google Apps?

  Hello All, My (smaller) company has an existing Google Apps Deployment, used for E-Mail / Calendar, etc. I'm looking into a SharePoint setup (2010 most likely). One of the best features is that new events are added to one's Outlook Calendar, e-mails can be sent automatically, etc. Naturally, this works best out-of-the-box with Exchange. I know I can add my own OpenID login system via an OpenID provider for SharePoint and get my users into the system. My question is, can anyone recommend the best way to go about making sure that events automatically find their way into users' calendars and e-mails on the Google Apps system? This would enable us to deploy SharePoint without worrying about migrating our e-mail system to Exchange first (Google Apps is more cost-effective for our needs and I'm required to keep it.)   We are moving our projects to TFS 2010 using the SfTS v3 (Scrum for Team System) template. We need to understand how Microsoft Test Manager is supposed to be used in this Scrum process. Specific scenario & question: The QA manager uses Test Manager to create Acceptance Test Work Items (WIs). These new WIs are created and "assigned to" him. The manager doesn't run all the tests, instead he wants to give that responsibility to his staff. How is a QA engineer supposed to know that he has tests to run? Everything says it is assigned to the manager.

  In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. I then set the inheritance modifier for "id" property in the dbml file o/r designer to "overrides" Public MustInherit Class EntityBase MustOverride Property id() As Integer End Class Public MustInherit Class RepositoryBase(Of T As EntityBase) Protected _Db As New DataClasses1DataContext Public Function GetById(ByVal Id As Integer) As T Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault End Function End Class Partial Public Class Entity1 Inherits EntityBase End Class Public Class TestRepository Inherits RepositoryBase(Of Entity1) End Class the line Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault however produces the error "Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped" when i use VS 2010 using the 4.0 framework but I never received that error with the old one. • How can Excel 2007 / 2010 consume a REST web service?

  What options exist to consume a REST web service from within Excel 2007 / 2010? I can use XML Maps to consume a basic XML list, but that doesn't let me build a dynamic URL (so I could include parameters). For example, I can add an XML Map to Excel for http://machine/service/level/5 and display the values in the workbook just fine - no problem there. The real question is, how can I dynamically change the /5 part of the URL to come from another cell in excel? That way I can have a couple of cells that have the options (what ID, what name, etc.) and whenever those values change (ideally) a new dynamic URL would be constructed and the XML map would be refreshed. Is such a thing possible? Does anyone else have a better way to take some parameters, call a web service (REST or SOAP, I'm not picky) and shove the results back into excel for further manipulation?

  Hi! We are planning to create two sharepoint web applications using SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition. All Users that have access to web app 1, should also be able to access web app 2. This authentication shall be powered by server 2003 active directory. -- do I need to use claims based authentication? If so -- can I use Windows Based Authentication with NTLM for that? The only thing I really want is that users navigating from web app 1 to web app 2 (and vice versa) do not have to authenticate twice. I do NOT want to configure Kerberos if it is not absolutely necessare though... Can you give me any hints? Thanks!

  This seems really simple, but how do I call a javascript function that's defined in the top-level html, from a child frame? top html doc - 1st level frame - 2nd level frame my top html doc has a function called testFn(). In the 2nd level frame I have a button with onclick="top.testFn();" but this doesn't call the testFn(). In Firebug if I use a watch to execute top.testFn(); it says TypeError: testFn() is not a function. Should this all just work - in which case it's a problem with my documents, or is there some other way to call functions in the top-level window?

  I have a custom site template in SharePoint 2010. It works well when there's no silverlight installed on machine. When there's silverlight on machine, after fill in the information for creating a sharepoint site and click ok it gives error without any explanation. Since there will be many editors I can't ask them to uninstall silverlight on all their machines. How to fix this, for me even using javascript to disable silverlight is ok. but how? Thanks.

  Is LocalDB supported by Visual Studio 2010 in Entity Framework 5, on .NET 4.0? Or am I doing it wrong? I'm getting a "The network path can't be found" issue when instantiating my model container with a connection string for LocalDB. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server). Edit 2 I just figured out that changing to Visual Studio 11 beta doesn't work either. Still receiving the same error-message.

I created the simple test web part (writes out "hi"), uploaded it to virtual machine, added it with add-spsolution and install-spsolution in powershell with success. When i do get-solution through powershell on my webpart it says deployed = true. What am i missing from here to get it to actually show up somewhere in the web interface so i can add it to a page?   I have loaded a .RAW file into a 2x2 array in my class. The way I am rendering it works fine but I am struggling to get the camera to move on top of the terrain. The terrain renders from 0,0,0 (x,y,z) as that is where I put my camera. My camera class allows to the "camera" to move through the scene. I want to be able to "walk" on top of the terrain with some basic collision detection (if possible). Any tips on where to go for this or any tips?

• Can I force window to open on top of other windows when opened by keyboard shortcut?

  I use SpaceFM as my primary file manager on Ubuntu. I typically open folder directly by keyboard shortcuts, so, e.g. Ctrl+Super+W opens my Work folder. Specifically, I use execute the command spacefm -w /home/rasmus/Work/ by the above shortcut, with the -w ensuring that SpaceFM opens a new window. However, this new window is not always open on top of the last active window on the workspace. This is rather annoying, as it means I sometimes have to "dig" for the newly opened window. So, my question is: Is there something additional I can add to the executed command that will ensure that the fresh window is opened on top? Alternative solutions to the same effect are welcome.

• Will Unity allow users to change the color/appearance of the top-Panel?

  I'm very excited by the functional design principles and keyboard shortcuts that are being implemented for Unity. And function of use is more important to me than looks. However, after experiencing the aesthetic beauty of the display of the top panel in gnome-shell, I was wondering if users would be able to alter the color of Unity's top panel? IMHO it does not look as good as the gnome-shell implementation (or mac OS X/iPad). I think if an alternate color/appearance were chosen for the panel, it would make a big difference aesthetically. Is there a way to make it Black like gnome-shell? Or are the color choices limited to theme-designs as pointed out in this answer? For efficiency and clarity, the Panel should be better differentiated from application controls. The panel should be a different color because it has a "constant (always present) state," unlike application controls. For contrast and easy-recognition, I would like to make the Panel black (like gnome-shell) but make the application controls (e.g., those of Firefox) "Inverted"

• Is it possible to get the old workspaceswitcher back in the top-panel?

  I just updated my Ubuntu from 10.04 to 12.04 yesterday and so far I'm very satisfied with it. There is only one thing which is still missing to get back just the same comfort as I had with the previous version. I work on 4 workspaces and would like to have the ability to switch from one to another by just one click. With Gnome there was the possibility to add the workspace switcher to the top-panel next to the system tray and I could easily click on just the workspace I wanted to switch to. Of course there I could switch by using the keyboard shortcuts, but I would like to use the mouse in addition. I don't like using the switcher on the left side because it's much slower. Is it possible to get the old workplace switcher back in the panel at the top?

• How to connect to the internet via command line or graphical utility given I can't click at the top of the screen?

  My Ubuntu 12.04 installation has an input problem resulting preventing me from clicking near the top of the screen. That is, there is an unclickable area, circa 60 pixels high and stretching all the way across the screen. I will ask about this in a later question. For now, I would just like to be able to connect to the internet, given this limitation. I am able to access the network connections application by hitting the super key and typing "network connections". There is a LAN and a wireless network available. The network icon in the bar at the top of the screen shows an empty wedge, which I suppose means that wireless is off. I've attached the cable for the Ethernet connection, but it does not seem to have connected automatically. How can I figure out what's going on? (I'll happily edit in the output of any relevant terminal commands.) Thank you.

  What's the standard way to keep the same menu on top among different web pages without having to duplicate it on each page (I don't mean that it doesn't reload like when using frames and only loading the bottom part; I want the menu to scroll with the page when scrolling down, like this, this, this and pretty much every single web page that exists). I found this answer but the guy can't use Php and I can. Plus, I see several people giving different suggestions, but I assume there is a standard since pretty much every single web page in the whole web have a menu on top that stays the same among multiple pages . I'm just a newbie on web design (I can program Php and Html easily but I have no idea about standards and stuff like that since I'm self-taught guy ;)). What I would normally do is to include the menu with php but I'm not sure if this is the "standard".

• Having problems with high CPU usage and apparent memory leak of Exim

• light.exe : error LGHT0217: Error executing ICE action &lsquo;ICE*&rsquo; with BizTalk Deployment Framework &amp; TFS 2010 Build.

  Hi there, Recently I was working with BizTalk Deployment Framework v5.0 for my BizTalk Sever 2009 projects and TFS 2010 Builds. I had followed all the steps mentioned in the BTDF documentation to create the build definition and also followed the steps to setup the Build Server with BTDF. After few hiccups I was stuck at this light.exe validation error. The detailed error is as below: light.exe : error LGHT0217: Error executing ICE action 'ICE06'. The most common cause of this kind of ICE failure is an incorrectly registered scripting engine. See http://wix.sourceforge.net/faq.html#Error217 for details and how to solve this problem. The following string format was not expected by the external UI message logger: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." I found few blog posts and forum answers out there which had steps to resolve the error but all of them mentioned different things. Like: Some mentioned that disable the validation itself so that the VBScript would not be called. (I didn’t want to disable the validation.) Another said to put NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE in the local Administrators group but this is not recommended as it opens up network security holes. But what actually worked for me was: TFS Build Service Account was part of the Administrator group on the Build Server which is OK. But somehow it was also part of the IIS_IUSR Group. I removed the TFS Build Service Account from the IIS_IUSR group. Queued up my TFS Build but same error. Again after some digging, I found that I had not restarted the Visual Studio Team Build Service. In a Nutshell: Remove TFS Build Service Account from IIS_IUSR Group. Restart the Visual Studio Team Build Service, either from Services or TFS Console.   Hope this resolves the issue for someone and not waste bunch of hours.   Thanks, Vishal Mody
