  • 1136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 0.? AS3 Flash Cs4

    - by charmaine
    Basically i am working through a book called..Foundation Actionscript 3.0 Animation, making things move. i am now on Chapter 9 - collision detection. On two lines of my code i get the 1135 error, letting me know that i have an incorrect number of arguments. Can anybody help me out on why this may be? package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.Event; public class Bubbles extends Sprite { private var balls:Array; private var numBalls:Number = 10; private var centerBall:Ball; private var bounce:Number = -1; private var spring:Number = 0.2; public function Bubbles() { init(); } private function init():void { balls = new Array(); centerBall = new Ball(100, 0xcccccc); addChild(centerBall); centerBall.x = stage.stageWidth / 2; centerBall.y = stage.stageHeight / 2; for(var i:uint = 0; i < numBalls; i++) { var ball:Ball = new Ball(Math.random() * 40 + 5, Math.random() * 0xffffff); ball.x = Math.random() * stage.stageWidth; ball.y = Math.random() * stage.stageHeight; ball.vx = Math.random() * 6 - 3; ball.vy = Math.random() * 6 - 3; addChild(ball); balls.push(ball); } addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, onEnterFrame); } private function onEnterFrame(event:Event):void { for(var i:uint = 0; i < numBalls; i++) { var ball:Ball = balls[i]; move(ball); var dx:Number = ball.x - centerBall.x; var dy:Number = ball.y - centerBall.y; var dist:Number = Math.sqrt(dx * dx + dy * dy); var minDist:Number = ball.radius + centerBall.radius; if(dist < minDist) { var angle:Number = Math.atan2(dy, dx); var tx:Number = centerBall.x + Math.cos(angle) * minDist; var ty:Number = centerBall.y + Math.sin(angle) * minDist; ball.vx += (tx - ball.x) * spring; ball.vy += (ty - ball.y) * spring; } } } ***private function move(ball:Ball):void*** { ball.x += ball.vx; ball.y += ball.vy; if(ball.x + ball.radius > stage.stageWidth) { ball.x = stage.stageWidth - ball.radius; ball.vx *= bounce; } else if(ball.x - ball.radius < 0) { ball.x = ball.radius; ball.vx *= bounce; } ***if(ball.y + ball.radius > stage.stageHeight)*** { ball.y = stage.stageHeight - ball.radius; ball.vy *= bounce; } else if(ball.y - ball.radius < 0) { ball.y = ball.radius; ball.vy *= bounce; } } } } The bold parts are the lines im having trouble with! please help..thanks in advance!!

  • Flex AS3: Assign a button's upSkin property with a remote file dynamically?

    - by aaron.lovelace
    I am building a Flex application with ActionScript 3. Unfortunately I've hit a wall with this one... I would like to be able to apply an upSkin to my dynamically generated button like this: //this theSkin variable is dynamic in my app, but for this example it's a simple string var theSkin:String = "http://www.mypicturedomain.com/images/myimage.gif"; var navBtn:Button = new Button(); navBtn.id = "thumb1"; navBtn.width = 60; navBtn.height = 45; //skin the button navBtn.setStyle("upSkin", theSkin); //add the button to my canvas myCanvas.addChild(navBtn); When I attempt this, I get this error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::Loader@3dac941 to Class. How do I skin this button with my image dynamically? A couple of things to consider: The upSkin image must be remote. It can't be local. The button must be generated dynamically (it's in a for loop). Any help/ideas would be much appreciated at this point!

  • Stick element to bottom-right corner (AS3 - Adobe AIR)?

    - by Martti Laine
    Hello I'm creating a simple AIR app with resize-functionality. Of course i need to position a resize-arrow to the bottom-right corner. Here's my code: stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, handleResize); function handleResize(e:Event):void{ resize_btn.y = stage.stageHeight-resize_btn.height; } This doesn't work, my button gets out of the window very quickly. How could I make this work? Martti Laine

  • How would I make a mouse controlled physics object in Box2D / AS3?

    - by Marty Wallace
    I recently created this tennis game using my own basic physics: http://martywallace.com/sandbox/tennis/ Basically a tennis racquet sticks to your mouse and you can hit the tennis balls upward. The physics aren't that great, and I want to make a more interesting version of this game with milestones and levels in Flash. I am planning to use Box2D because I have moderate experience with it. I'm not sure how to go about creating the racquet - as far as I understand Box2D, the racquet needs a velocity to influence the velocities of the balls when you hit them (so that you can hit them harder or softer upward to keep them up). With that said, I'm assuming I can't just have a kinematic body that will have its position set to the mouse, because it won't affect the velocities of the balls as expected. I've also thought about setting the velocity to the difference between the racquet position and the mouse each frame, but I am concerned that won't provide accurate positioning and am also thinking that the velocity could end up really large if you move the mouse quickly. What is the correct way to have a physics object locked to the mouse but also to have its displacement in the last frame (from where it was to the mouse) affect the balls?

  • Flash AS3 and XML: way to fix line breaks in htmlText that uses <b> tags in the xml?

    - by HeroicNate
    I'm importing text in from an xml file and i'm using htmlText to try to keep some styling with tags. I have both the regular and bold face font embedded, and the bolding works fine. The problem is that it ads spaces around the words in bold like a paragraph indent and then makes a line-break after them. What's going on, is there a way to fix? fromxmlText.htmlText = theXML.contenttext; If I pull the text in from a txt file it will work fine, but taking it out of an xml file causing funky formatting. lil' help?

  • Is there a more efficient AS3 way to compare 2 arrays for adds, removes & updates?

    - by WillyCornbread
    Hi all - I'm wondering if there is a better way to approach this than my current solution... I have a list of items, I then retrieve another list of items. I need to compare the two lists and come up with a list of items that are existing (for update), a list that are not existing in the new list (for removal) and a list of items that are not existing in the old list (for adding). Here is what I'm doing now - basically creating a lookup object for testing if an item exists. Thanks for any tips. for each (itm in _oldItems) { _oldLookup[itm.itemNumber] = itm; } // Loop through items and check if they already exist in the 'old' list for each (itm in _items) { // If an item exists in the old list - push it for update if (_oldLookup[itm.itemNumber]) { _itemsToUpdate.push(itm); } else // otherwise push it into the items to add { _itemsToAdd.push(itm); } // remove it from the lookup list - this will leave only // items for removal remaining in the lookup delete _oldLookup[itm.itemNumber]; } // The items remaining in the lookup object have neither been added or updated - // so they must be for removal - add to list for removal for each (itm in _oldLookup) { _itemsToRemove.push(itm); }

  • How do I post a .wav file from CS5 Flash, AS3 to a Java servlet?

    - by Muostar
    Hi, I am trying to send a byteArray from my .fla to my running tomcat server integrated in Eclipse. From flash I am using the following code: var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); var header:URLRequestHeader = new URLRequestHeader("audio/wav", "application/octet-stream"); var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://localhost:8080/pdp/Server?wav=" + tableID); request.requestHeaders.push(header); request.method = URLRequestMethod.POST; request.data = file;//wav; loader.load(request); And my java servlet looks as follows: try{ int readBytes = -1; int lengthOfBuffer = request.getContentLength(); InputStream input = request.getInputStream(); byte[] buffer = new byte[lengthOfBuffer]; ByteArrayOutputStream output = new ByteArrayOutputStream(lengthOfBuffer); while((readBytes = input.read(buffer, 0, lengthOfBuffer)) != -1) { output.write(buffer, 0, readBytes); } byte[] finalOutput = output.toByteArray(); input.close(); FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(getServletContext().getRealPath(""+"/temp/"+wav+".wav")); fos.write(finalOutput); fos.close(); When i run the flash .swf file and send the bytearray to the server, I receive following in the server's console window:: (loads of loads of Chinese symbols) May 20, 2010 7:04:57 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.http.Parameters processParameters WARNING: Parameters: Character decoding failed. Parameter '? (loads of loads of Chinese symbols) and then looping this for a long time. It is like I recieve the bytes but not encoding/decoding them correctly. What can I do?

  • 1136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 0.? AS3 Flash Cs4 (Round 2)

    - by charmaine
    (I have asked this before but I dont think I was direct enough with my question and therefore it did not get resolved so here goes again!) I am working through a book called Foundation Actionscript 3.0 Animation, making things move. I am now on Chapter 9 - Collision Detection. On two lines of my code I get the 1135 error, letting me know that I have an incorrect number of arguments. I have highlighted the two areas in which this occurs with asterisks: package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.Event; public class Bubbles extends Sprite { private var balls:Array; private var numBalls:Number = 10; private var centerBall:Ball; private var bounce:Number = -1; private var spring:Number = 0.2; public function Bubbles() { init(); } private function init():void { balls = new Array(); ***centerBall = new Ball(100, 0xcccccc);*** addChild(centerBall); centerBall.x = stage.stageWidth / 2; centerBall.y = stage.stageHeight / 2; for(var i:uint = 0; i < numBalls; i++) { ***var ball:Ball = new Ball(Math.random() * 40 + 5, Math.random() * 0xffffff);*** ball.x = Math.random() * stage.stageWidth; ball.y = Math.random() * stage.stageHeight; ball.vx = Math.random() * 6 - 3; ball.vy = Math.random() * 6 - 3; addChild(ball); balls.push(ball); } addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, onEnterFrame); } private function onEnterFrame(event:Event):void { for(var i:uint = 0; i < numBalls; i++) { var ball:Ball = balls[i]; move(ball); var dx:Number = ball.x - centerBall.x; var dy:Number = ball.y - centerBall.y; var dist:Number = Math.sqrt(dx * dx + dy * dy); var minDist:Number = ball.radius + centerBall.radius; if(dist < minDist) { var angle:Number = Math.atan2(dy, dx); var tx:Number = centerBall.x + Math.cos(angle) * minDist; var ty:Number = centerBall.y + Math.sin(angle) * minDist; ball.vx += (tx - ball.x) * spring; ball.vy += (ty - ball.y) * spring; } } } private function move(ball:Ball):void { ball.x += ball.vx; ball.y += ball.vy; if(ball.x + ball.radius > stage.stageWidth) { ball.x = stage.stageWidth - ball.radius; ball.vx *= bounce; } else if(ball.x - ball.radius < 0) { ball.x = ball.radius; ball.vx *= bounce; } if(ball.y + ball.radius > stage.stageHeight) { ball.y = stage.stageHeight - ball.radius; ball.vy *= bounce; } else if(ball.y - ball.radius < 0) { ball.y = ball.radius; ball.vy *= bounce; } } } } I think this is due to the non-existance of a Ball.as, when reading the tutorial I assumed it meant that I had to create a movie clip of a ball on stage and then export it for actionscript with the class name being Ball, however when flicking back through the book I saw that a Ball.as already existed, stating that I may need to use this again later on in the book, this read: package { import flash.display.Sprite; public class Ball extends Sprite { private var radius:Number; private var color:uint; public var vx:Number=0; public var vy:Number=0; public function Ball(radius:Number=40, color:uint=0xff0000) { this.radius=radius; this.color=color; init(); } public function init():void { graphics.beginFill(color); graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, radius); graphics.endFill(); } } } This managed to stop all the errors appearing however, it did not transmit any of the effects from Bubbles.as it just braught a Red Ball on the center of the stage. How would I alter this code in order to work in favour of Bubbles.as? Please Help! Thanks!

  • Sorted array: how to get position before and after using name? as3

    - by user1560239
    I have been working on a project and Stack Overflow has helped me with a few problems so far, so I am very thankful! My question is this: I have an array like this: var records:Object = {}; var arr:Array = [ records["nh"] = { medinc:66303, statename:"New Hampshire"}, records["ct"] = { medinc:65958, statename:"Connecticut"}, records["nj"] = { medinc:65173, statename:"New Jersey"}, records["md"] = { medinc:64596, statename:"Maryland"}, etc... for all 50 states. And then I have the array sorted reverse numerically (descending) like this: arr.sortOn("medinc", Array.NUMERIC); arr.reverse(); Can I call the name of the record (i.e. "nj" for new jersey) and then get the value from the numeric position above and below the record in the array? Basically, medinc is medium income of US states, and I am trying to show a ranking system... a user would click Texas for example, and it would show the medinc value for Texas, along with the state the ranks one position below and the state that ranks one position above in the array. Thanks for your help!

  • Is it possible to prevent a locally-running SWF (AS3) from downloading from my website?

    - by Matt
    I've got a crossdomain.xml file which allows SWFs running on only a certain few domains to download resources from my domain. However, one simple way around this is for a user to download the SWF to their local machine, and run it there (i.e. by double-clicking on it within Windows Explorer, not by running through http://localhost). It seems that when this happens, the crossdomain.xml file is ignored. I understand that in my actionscript, I can do this: if (Security.sandboxType.indexOf(Security.REMOTE) == -1) // running locally - don't allow However it is incredibly easy for someone to decompile the SWF and simply remove this line. Is it possible to do something on the server side to stop a locally running SWF to download from my site? I tried checking the referrer but this field often isn't populated. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks, Matt

  • AS3 How do I stop sound and video when clicking a menu button to go to another frame?

    - by Jennifer Heidelberg
    Hello, I have a problem with my slideshow script. I have embedding a flash video file into my website with this slideshow called monoslideshow, and everything seems to work perfectly. Trouble is, when I am clicking on another menu button that should jump to another frame, it still keeps playing the video and sound while displaying the new menu data. So I will probably need some code that stops the video instantly, when another menu button is clicked. But how do I write it and where do I put it? Here is my actionscript for the video file to show: var loaderSlide:Loader = new Loader(); var monoslideshow:Object; loaderSlide.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoadComplete); addChild(loaderSlide); loaderSlide.load(new URLRequest("monoslideshow.swf")); function onLoadComplete(event:Event):void { monoslideshow = event.target.content; monoslideshow.showLogo = false; monoslideshow.setViewport(new Rectangle(730, 20, 700, 660)); var xml:XML = <album title="TITLE" itemPath="photography/makingoff/" thumbnailPath="thumbnails/"> <contents> <video source="VIDEO.flv" /> </contents> </album> monoslideshow.loadXML(xml); } It would be great to get a solution to this problem, otherwise my website will be kinda messy ;) THANK YOU!!

  • flash as3: can children not run their own actionscript?

    - by HeroicNate
    I thought I was being slick by having movieclips that I export for actionscript and then addChild later. I've made this one movieclip that loads html text through as, and it works fine when I drag it to the stage; but if I do var trackListingBox:trackListingScreen = new trackListingScreen(); addChild(trackListingBox); it either doesn't run the actionscript, or it's somehow broken. Can children not run their own action script?

  • AS3: How can I require a method argument to implement multiple interfaces?

    - by Anders
    The argument to my method func() must implement the two unrelated interfaces IFoo and IBar. Is there a better way of doing this than declaring another interface only for this purpose that inherits from IFoo and IBar and using that interface as the argument type? public interface IFooBar implements IFoo, IBar { } public function func(arg:IFooBar):void { } I'm developing for Flash Player 9.

  • In AS3/Flex, how can I get from flat data to hierarchical data?

    - by Dave S
    I have some data that gets pulled out of a database and mapped to an arraycollection. This data has a field called parentid, and I would like to map the data into a new arraycollection with hierarchical information to then feed to an advanced data grid. I think I'm basically trying to take the parent object, add a new property/field/variable of type ArrayCollection called children and then remove the child object from the original list and clone it into the children array? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I apologize ahead of time for this code: private function PutChildrenWithParents(accountData : ArrayCollection) : ArrayCollection{ var pos_inner:int = 0; var pos_outer:int = 0; while(pos_outer < accountData.length){ if (accountData[pos_outer].ParentId != null){ pos_inner = 0; while(pos_inner < accountData.length){ if (accountData[pos_inner].Id == accountData[pos_outer].ParentId){ accountData.addItemAt( accountData[pos_inner] + {children:new ArrayCollection(accountData[pos_outer])}, pos_inner ); accountData.removeItemAt(pos_outer); accountData.removeItemAt(pos_inner+1); } pos_inner++; } } pos_outer++; } return accountData; }

  • Why do I get Error#2036 in flash AS3 and how to solve this?

    - by sydas
    I'm currently building an application in flash in relation to RSS/XML feeds for a project. I'm stuck at the moment because I keep getting this error: Error opening URL 'http://distilleryimage6.instagram.com/.jpg' Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2036: Load Never Completed. I know my string picURL is not functioning properly, but am I missing something that makes it not functional? This is my code: package { import flash.display.*; import flash.events.*; import flash.net.*; public class instagramFeed extends MovieClip { //link to #rit xml loader public var ritFileRequest = new URLRequest("http://instagram.com/tags/rit/feed/recent.rss"); public var ritXmlLoader = new URLLoader(); //link to #rochester xml loader // same as above public variables public function instagramFeed() { // constructor code trace("About to load..."); //Loads #rit hashtag xml data. ritXmlLoader.load(ritFileRequest); ritXmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, displayRITInfo); } //focuses on data with #rit hashtag public function displayRITInfo(e:Event):void{ var ritInstagramData:XML = new XML(ritXmlLoader.data); var ritInfoList:XMLList = ritInstagramData.elements().item; trace(ritInfoList); //load the image var ritPic:String = ritInfoList.*::condition.@code; var picURL:String = "http://distilleryimage6.instagram.com/" + ritPic + ".jpg"; trace(picURL); //show the image on the stage! var ritImageRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest(picURL); var ritImageLoader:Loader = new Loader(); ritImageLoader.load(ritImageRequest); addChild(ritImageLoader); ritImageLoader.x=200; ritImageLoader.y=100; ritImageLoader.scaleX = 3; ritImageLoader.scaleY = 3; } } }

  • [as3] Movieclip.width returns higher value than Movieclip stage on Width.

    - by Sawrb
    I have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height). Any pointers, to what could be the reasons for the discrepancy in .width values on stage and on run-time? Its breaking the scaling code that follows.
