• Subclassing QGraphicsItemGroup

  Hi everyone I have system that has classes derived from QGraphicsWidget. I manage derived class objects in layouts on QGraphicsScene. Now I need a compound item that contain two or more QGraphicsWidget in it and also I need to put that item inside my layout. So I choose QGraphicsItemGroup and write I class like this. class CompositeItem : public QGraphicsItemGroup,public QGraphicsLayoutItem { ... }; I only implemented sizeHint function again. When add CompositeItem instance to layout it does not shown. What may cause this? Where I made wrong?

  In ruby you can throw a rescue at the end of an assignment to catch any errors that might come up. I have a function (below: a_function_that_may_fail) where it's convenient to let it throw an error if certain conditions aren't met. The following code works well post = {} # Other Hash stuff post['Caption'] = a_function_that_may_fail rescue nil However I'd like to have post['Caption'] not even set if the function fails. I know I can do: begin post['Caption'] = a_function_that_may_fail recsue end but that feels a little excessive - is there a simpler solution?

  So I am writing a simple Rock, Paper, Scissors game in C (it's for an assignment by the way, though the main thing is to learn sockets. Also, I suspect it will be due before I get a good answer).   I've read that all stl containers provide a specialisation of the swap algorithm so as to avoid calling the copy constructor and two assignment operations that the default method uses. However, when I thought it would be nice to use a queue in some code I was working on I noticed that (unlike vector and deque) queue doesn't provide this method? I just decided to use a deque instead of a queue, but still I'm interested to know why this is?

• How to add a margin to a CheckedListBox in .NET?

  I'm writing an windforms application using .NET (actually IronPython, but that's not relevant), and I have a CheckedListBox object in my GUI. It's working fine, it has about 20 items in a multicolumn layout. But I can't figure out how to give the thing a nice internal margin--I want to insert around 20 or 30 pixels of whitespace around the top, bottom, left, and right edges of the checkboxes. To be clear, I want the whitespace to appear between the border of the CheckedListBox and the Checkboxes inside it, not outside the whole component. Hopefully this is an easy answer, and I'm just missing it cause I'm new to programming in windows. If its not possible, I guess that'd be good to know too, so I don't waste anymore time with it. (If I were doing this in Swing (Java) I would be looking to set the Insets on my component, or maybe build up a compound border with some empty space in it.)

• How can I show characters for an ASP.net password textbox control after assigning its .Text property

  I am assigning a value to .Text of a textbox retrieved from a database in Page_Load() but no characters are shown in the textbox after doing this. The value is indeed there when I try to read from it after the assignment. I would like to present some characters to the user even though they are the "dotted" password characters so they know a password has been entered here. Is it possible to do this?

  I have a property inside a class that is getting changed by something. The only place I change the value of this code is a line that looks like this: pushpin.Position.Altitude = -31; During visual studio debugging, is there a way to watch .Altitude for any changes made, preferably it breaks at the assignment statement that changes the value. • Is it good practice to generally make heavyweight classes non-copyable?

  I have a Shape class containing potentially many vertices, and I was contemplating making copy-constructor/copy-assignment private to prevent accidental needless copying of my heavyweight class (for example, passing by value instead of by reference). To make a copy of Shape, one would have to deliberately call a "clone" or "duplicate" method. Is this good practice? I wonder why STL containers don't use this approach, as I rarely want to pass them by value.
