• iPhone: Activate UISlider and set its value to the location of the current touch programatically

  Is it possible to set an UISlider as first responder and set its current value to the location of the current touch programatically? The way my app is set up I have a UIView container that takes up the whole screen. Inside the container I have another UIView offscreen at the bottom edge (I'll call this bottomBar). Inside the bottomBar there is a UISlider element. Right now, when the user swipes along the bottom edge of the screen the bottomBar the slider it contains slide up. What I am trying to achieve is to activate the UISlider, and set the position of the slider (the value) to the position of the users touch. Is this possible? Could someone please point me in the right direction?

In addition when Micosoft says that Digest Authentication uses the Domain Controller, what does it mean? Does it validate username\password against it?

  Hello, colleagues. I've written wcf service. Unfortunality I have to use basicHttpBinding for php callers. But I need securtiy. So I've decided use transport security with https. I host it at my IIS 6.0. I enable ssl at IIS and assign Certificate. But when I try open it through browser i get standard error. What's wrong. Please help. • Dealing with ISO-encoding in AJAX requests (prototype)

  I have a HTML-page, that's encoded in ISO-8859-1 and a Prototype-AJAX call that's build like this: new Ajax.Request('api.jsp', { method: 'get', parameters: {...}, onSuccess: function(transport) { var ajaxResponse = transport.responseJSON; alert(ajaxResponse.msg); } }); The api.jsp returns its data in ISO-8859-1. The response contains special characters (German Umlauts) that are not displayed correctly, even if I add a "encoding: ISO-8895-1" to the AJAX-request. Does anyone know how to fix this? If I call api.jsp in a new browser window separately the special characters are also corrupt. And I can't get any information about the used encoding in the response header. The response header looks like this: Server Apache-Coyote/1.1 Content-Type application/json Content-Length 208 Date Thu, 29 Apr 2010 14:40:24 GMT Notice: Please don't advice the usage of UTF-8.   I have search strings, similar to the one bellow: energy food "olympics 2010" Terrorism OR "government" OR cups NOT transport and I need to parse it with PHP5 to detect if the content belongs to any of the following clusters: AllWords array AnyWords array NotWords array These are the rules i have set: If it has OR before or after the word or quoted words if belongs to AnyWord. If it has a NOT before word or quoted words it belongs to NotWords If it has 0 or more more spaces before the word or quoted phrase it belongs to AllWords. So the end result should be something similar to: AllWords: (energy, food, "olympics 2010") AnyWords: (terrorism, "government", cups) NotWords: (Transport) What would be a good way to do this?

• Spring/RMI server error

  We have a Spring MVC web app (WAR) deploying to Tomcat (6.0.35) that launches a thread inside a separate JVM at deploy time (don't ask why - not my design) and then communicates with that thread via RMI over port 8888. Despite being totally convoluded, this was working perfectly fine up until yesterday, and now the thread is failing at startup and despite our best efforts to add logging into the mix, we are hitting a wall. • Math for a geodesic sphere

  I'm trying to create a very specific geodesic tessellation, but I can't find anything online about it. It is normal to subdivide the triangles of an icosahedron into triangle patches and project them onto the sphere. However, I noticed an animated GIF on the Wikipedia entry for Geodesic Domes that appears not to follow this scheme. Geodesic spheres generally comprise a mixture of mostly hexagonal triangle patches, with pentagonal patches forming at the vertices of the original icosahedron; in most cases, these pentagons are linked together; that is, following a straight edge from the center of one pentagon leads to the center of another pentagon. In the Wikipedia animation, however, the edge from the center of one pentagon doesn't appear to intersect the center of an adjacent pentagons; instead it intersects the side of the other pentagon. Hopefully the drawing below makes this clear: Where can I go to learn about the math behind this particular geometry? Ideally, I'd like to know of an algorithm for generating such tessellations.

• How to find relation between change in latitudes at centre of map and top/bottom

  Hi, Im having little trouble finding a relation between the movement at centre and edge of a circle, Im doing for panning world map,my map extent is 180,89:-180,-89, my map pans by adding change(dx,dY) to its extents and not its centre. Now a situation has arrrised where I have to move the map to a specific centre, to calculate the change in longitudes is very easy and simple, but its the change in lattitudes that has caused problem. It seems the change in centreY of map is more than the change at edge of the mapY, or simply if I have to move the map centre from 0long,0lat to 73long,33lat, for dX I simply get 73, but for dY apparently it looks 33 but if i add 33 to top of map that is 89 , it will be 122 which is incorrect since Latitudes are between 90 and -90 . It seems a case a projection of a circle on 2D plane where the edge of circle since is moving backward due to angle expereinces less change and the centre expereinces more change, now is there a relation between these two factors? I tried converting the difference between OriginY and destinationY into radians and then add to Top and Bottom of Map, but it did'nt really work for me. • How to position an element so that it does not flow off the visible screen

  I am creating pseudo-tooltips on a page that has a lot of "a" and "span" elements that have these tips associated with them. Everything in the creation of the element is fine, and it displays fine. However, since this is a page with a lot of data, as you get towards the bottom of the visual area the tooltips start to flow past the bottom edge of the window. My initial attempt to compensate for this with window.innerWidth/innerHeight didn't come out too well. I'm using jQuery for DOM manipulation (but not jQuery UI). Given the event itself, and the height and width of the tooltip (which I can get with getBoundingClientRect()), how can I position this element so that the bottom of the tooltip is never below the edge of the window?

  Hi all, I'm trying to figure out if I can get what I want out of UIScrollView through some trickery or whether I need to roll my own scroll view: I have a series of items in row that I want to scroll through. One item should always be centered in the view, but other items should be visible to either side. In other words, I want normal scrolling and edge bouncing, but I want the deceleration when the user ends a touch to naturally settle at some specified stop point. (Actually now that I think of it, this behavior is similar to coverflow in this respect.) I know UIScrollView doesn't do this out of the box, but does anyone have suggestions for how it might be made to do this, or if anyone's spotted any code that accomplishes something similar (I'm loathe to reimplement all the math for deceleration and edge bounce) Thanks!

• not getting output from parmiko/ssh command

  I am using paramiko/ssh/python to attempt to run a command on a remote server. When I ssh manually and run the command in question, I get the results I want. But if I use the python (co-opted from another thread on this site) below, there is no returned data. If I modify the command to be something more basic like 'pwd' or 'ls' I can then get the output. Any help is appreciated. • Choosing between YUI Charts or Google Visualization API

  Hello , I'm a bit stuck with which charting library I will use in my project. Im stuck with this two (but also open for other suggestions) For YUI Charts : Pro : - Very robust and configurable Cons : - Uses flash 9 , which might potentially be inaccessible for users without up to date flash version - Does not support export to image (for flash versions < 10 only) For Google Visualization API pros: - small file size for the libraries, - can be exported to static image charts (via separate API call) Cons - limited configuration options So there, please help me decide. YUI charts has the edge over configuration options but Google Visualization API has the edge in terms of accessibility as it uses SVG to render the grapsh instead of Flash. For users that are hand-cuffed by corporate IT prohibitions , they cant just upgrade their Flash version and the page will not work. Thanks!

• Huge amount of time sending data with suds and proxy

  Hi everyone, I have the following code to send data through a proxy using suds: import suds t = suds.transport.http.HttpTransport() proxy = urllib2.ProxyHandler({'http': 'http://192.168.3.217:3128'}) opener = urllib2.build_opener(proxy) t.urlopener = opener ws = suds.client.Client('http://xxxxxxx/web.asmx?WSDL', transport=t) req = ws.factory.create('ActionRequest.request') req.SerialNumber = 'asdf' req.HostName = 'hola' res = ws.service.ActionRequest(req) I don't know why, but it can be sending data above 2 or 3 minutes, or even more and it raises a "Gateway timeout" exception sometimes. If I don't use the proxy, the amount of time used is above 2 seconds or less. Here is the SOAP reply: (ActionResponse){ Id = None Action = "Action.None" Objects = "" } The proxy is running right with other requests through urllib2, or using normal web browsers like firefox. • Building a Monopoly Board with GridBagLayout

  I have been building a Java version of Monopoly in my spare time and am having some trouble understanding layouts etc for Swing. Each one of my spaces on the board is a essentially a custom JButton and I have been trying to lay them around the edge of a frame (like on the monopoly board itself). I can't seem to find a useful explanation of how the layout system works and so am having trouble do so. Could someone please give me an example of how they would lay the buttons around the edge of the frame? Should I be using a different layout?

• Formula for producing a CGRect for a UIScrollView, that displays a UIImage in scaled to fit way

  Hi I am loading in images with varying sizes and putting them in UIScrollViews, all the images are larger than the UIScrollView. The user can scroll and zoom as they please, but initially I would like for the image to be centered and scaled so the largest side of the image aligns with the edge of the scrollView, i.e. if the picture is in landscape I would like to size and scale it so that the left and right side goes all the way to the edge of the UIScrollVIew and vice versa I found a formula in a utility function in the Programming guide but it does not quite fit my needs. My approach is to use: CGrect initialPos = ? [self.scrollView zoomToRect:initialPos animated:YES]; I know the size of my scrollView and the size of my image, what I need to figure out is the scale and CGRect to apply to the scrollView to center and size my image.   I have a web service that is deployed in tomcat, and it is rejecting a soap request over https. However, I can't see any logs as to why it is doing so. I have the following set in my service endpoint implementation file: System.setProperty("javax.net.debug", "all"); System.setProperty("java.security.debug", "all"); And I pass the following parameters to tomcat: -Dcom.sun.xml.ws.transport.http.HttpAdapter.dump=true -Dcom.sun.xml.ws.transport.http.client.HttpTransportPipe.dump=true Is there anything else I need to do to see the internal jaxws logs? Are there some other loggers I need to enable?

The system is expected to be a web site, and 3 kinds of people could use the web site to submit request, accept request, monitor status of specific stuff transportation, etc. The web site is more like an open agency or a workflow system.
