• Explicit localization problem

  when trying to translate the confirmation message to Norwegian i get the following error: Cannot have more than one binding on property 'OnClientClick' on 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.LinkButton'. Ensure that this property is not bound through an implicit expression, for example, using meta:resourcekey. i use Explicit localization in the following manner: <asp:LinkButton ID="lnkMarkInvoiced" runat="server" OnClick="lnkMarkInvoiced_OnClick" OnClientClick="<%# Resources: lnkMarkInvoicedResource.OnClientClick%>" Visible="False" CssClass="stdtext" meta:resourcekey="lnkMarkInvoicedResource" ></asp:LinkButton> here's the local resource file entry: <data name="lnkMarkInvoicedResource.OnClientClick" xml:space="preserve"> <value>return confirm('Er du sikker?');</value> if i remove the meta attribute i get the English text(default). how do i get the Norwegian text appearing without resorting to using the code behind? Update: removing the meta attribute prevents the exception from occurring but the original problem still exists. I can't get the Norwegian text to show. only the default English text shows. Another Update: I know this question is getting old but i still can't get the Norwegian text to display. If anyone has some tips please post a response.

• Help me understand dynamic layouts in Sinatra

  Help me understand this; I'm learning Sinatra (and Rails for that matter, er, and Ruby). Say I'm doing a search app. The search form is laid out in one div, and the results will be laid out in another. The search form is rendered into the div by a previous view (maybe from a login form). I want to process the form params, perform the search, and render the results into the results div. If I have a single "yield" in the layout and render the divs from different views, the results div erases the search div when it renders. If I define the divs in the default layout, then just render the content, obviously the layout will be messed up: there would have to be two "yields" and I don't think Sinatra supports passing blocks in to yields. I tried foca's sinatra-content-for plugin, and that seems closer to what I need. But I can't figure out where to place the "yield_content" statements. If I have this haml in my layout: #search -# search form = yield_content :search #results -# search results = yield_content :results ... this in my search view: - content_for :search do %form{:method => "post"... etc. ... and this in the results view: - content_for :results do %table{:class => 'results'... etc. This sort of works but when I render the results view, the search div is emptied out. I would like to have it remain. Am I doing something wrong? How should I set this up?

• Deterministic and non uniform long string generation from seed

  I had this weird idea for an encryption that I wanted to try out, it may be bad, and it may have done before, but I'm just doing it for fun. The short version of the question is: Is it possible to generate a long, deterministic and non-uniformly distributed string/sequence of numbers from a small seed? Long(er) version: I was thinking to encrypt a text by changing encoding. The new encoding would be generated via Huffman algorithm. To work well, the Huffman algorithm would need a fairly long text with non uniform distribution. Then characters can have different bit-lengths which would be the primary strength of this encryption. The problem is that its impractical to enter in/remember a long text each time you want to decrypt the text. So I was wondering if it was possible to generate a text from password seed? It doesn't matter what the text is, as long as it has non uniform distribution of characters and that the exact same sequence can be recreated each time you give it the same seed. Preferably, are there any functions/extensions in Python that can do this? EDIT: To expand on the "strength" of varying bit length: if I have a string "test", ASCII values 116, 101, 115, 116, which gives bit values of 1110100 1100101 1110011 1110100 Then, say my Huffman algorithm generates encoding like t = 101 e = 1100111 s = 10001 The final string is 101 1100111 10001 101, if we encode this back to ASCII, we get 1011100 1111000 1101000, which is 3 entirely different characters. Obviously its impossible to perform any kind of frequency analysis or something like that on this.

I get no security warnings, which I used to get before the policy server was in place. Still, the connection to port 12869 doesn't work. It's made (I can see with Wireshark and on the server), but no data is sent by Flash. It might be worth knowing that the SWF itself is served from example.com as well.

• What tasks aren't easy for PHP, ColdFusion and ASP?

  PHP, ColdFusion, and ASP (among many others) are usually sold on their strengths. What are their weaknesses? If one were to develop a niche product to handle the things that these products weren't so good at, what should it focus on? EDIT I'm trying to figure out what things PHP etc are bad at. They're all good at doing the nuts and bolts stuff, if one is looking with a bottom-to-top mindset. I'm thinking a little more globally, more top-to-bottom; what's difficult to achieve in PHP/ASP/CF without thousands of lines of code and twenty minutes of server time? EDIT Suppose company A comes up to you and says, "We want you to do x in PHP." What values of x will cause you to say, "Forget it, buddy, no one in their right mind would use PHP for that"? (swap PHP in the above quote for your favourite tool) EDIT Have we got to the point where everyone's needs can be met with PHP frameworks, Rails and ... er ... Java?

• Showing errors in updatepanel after processing a CSV file

  I have a csv importroutine which imports my CSV values into Sitecore. After this proces is done i want to show the errors in an asp:literal. This is not working, and I think this is because i need an updatepanel for this in order to be able to update text after the first postback (the csv upload / import). I confirmed the same problem with "Hello world" from the Opa tutorial compiled with both Opa stable 1.1.1 and build from sources. I suspected that the problem is due to Node.js update (Opa = 1.1.1 requires Node 0.10.* - now I am using 0.10.12, but I also tried other 0.10-s), but "Hello world" from the Node's from page works fine. I am running the app on OSX developer box and Linux Debian 7.0 server. Any suggestions what am I doing wrong? PS. I was off the business for a while. Anyone knows what happened to the Opa forum? Signing is seams not to work.

• PHP: how to access variables inside a function that have been declared outside of it?

  Please, I am very new and have not been confronted with OOP and all this related stuff, which I guess may be related to this issue (public, private, ...). So, any help and suggestions are very appreciated! :) At the very beginning of each page I include a file that starts the SESSION etc, lets call it session.php. In this file session.php, I include a file that contains a function, let's call it function1.php, because I need the function to be available in session.php. However, later in the main page I also include function2.php which needs to access variables set in session.php, so I additionally tried to include session.php in function2.php. The problem is that an error occurs as function1 will be declared multiple times... Fatal error: Cannot redeclare function1() (previously declared in ... So, what would be a more elegant and clean(er) solution for this? How could you solve it? Basically, I'd need to access variables inside a function that have been included in the main page before... • LINQ - Splitting up a string with maximum length, but not chopping words apart.

  I have a simple LINQ Extension Method... public static IEnumerable<string> SplitOnLength(this string input, int length) { int index = 0; while (index < input.Length) { if (index + length < input.Length) yield return input.Substring(index, length); else yield return input.Substring(index); index += length; } } This takes a string, and it chops it up into a collection of strings that do not exceed the given length. This works well - however I'd like to go further. It chops words in half. I don't need it to understand anything complicated, I just want it to be able to chop a string off 'early' if cutting it at the length would be cutting in the middle of text (basically anything that isn't whitespace). However I suck at LINQ, so I was wondering if anyone had an idea on how to go about this. I know what I am trying to do, but I'm not sure how to approach it. So let's say I have the following text. This is a sample block of text that I would pass through the string splitter. I call this method SplitOnLength(6) I would get the following. This i s a sa mple b lock o f text that I would pass t hrough the s tring splitt er. I would rather it be smart enough to stop and look more like .. This is a sample // bad example, since the single word exceeds maximum length, but the length would be larger numbers in real scenarios, closer to 200. Can anyone help me?

• How to draw a part of a window into a memory device context?

  I'm using simple statements to keep it, er, simple: The screen goes from 0, 0 to 1000, 1000 (screen coordinates). A window goes from 100, 100 to 900, 900 (screen coordinates). I have a memory device context that goes from 0, 0 to 200, 200 (logical coordinates). I need to send a WM_PRINT message to the window. I can pass the device context to the window via WM_PRINT, but I cannot pass which part of its window it should draw into the device context. Is there some way to alter the device context that will result in the window drawing a specific part of itself into the device context (say, its bottom right portion from 700, 700 to 900, 900)? (This is all under plain old GDI and in C or C++. Any solution must be too.) Please note: This problem is part of a larger solution in which the device context size is fixed and speed is crucial, so I cannot draw the window in full into a separate device context and blit the part I want from the resultant full bitmap into my device context.

• Instantiate a form, then find it later, without showing it initially

  I am having a problem that is strange to me but hopefully is not so strange to someone else. : ) Some background: I am working on a simple IM client that allows the user to broadcast messages to multiple recipients. The goal is to create a chat form for each of the recipients containing the text of the broadcast message, then show that form only if the recipient responds to the broadcast-er. However, when the application receives a response then attempts to locate the form for that particular chat session (using Application.OpenForms) it cannot find it UNLESS I .Show at the time it is created. I would like to avoid having to show this form when it is created because this means that the user will see a flash on the screen. The form doesn't seem to really be created until I show it, but it would seem there has to be a way to do this without showing first. Can anyone assist? I can provide code snippets if needed, I didn't in this post because this feels more like a conceptual misunderstanding on my part than a bug in the code. Thanks in advance!

  I'm always interested in learning the inner working of things. I started with C programming and then learnt Operating systems (from stallings) and then linkers & loaders and then assembly language after reading these now I want to go into little more depth. Computer Architecture. I feel that makes everything clear. As per SO archives these are the two good books: Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach, 4th Edition Computer Organization and Design, Fourth Edition, ~ David A. Patterson, John L. Hennessy But I've browsed through the contents of these books and found that they don't exactly meet my needs. I want to learn more about caches, Memory Management Unit , mapping b/w virtual memory & physical memory I'm no way interested in other ISAs like MIPS etc.. I'm IA32 and X86-64 fan and I want to stick to it. I'm not a hardware developer I don't want to details like circuit diagrams or How is L1, L2 & L3 caches are implemented? I want to know the parallel processing technologies like HyperThreading at the architecture level but again I don't want to design them. I liked the table of Contents of - Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach, 4th Edition but Quantitave Approach? Seriously?? I want to know the details of current technologies and I dont want to spend reading 200 pages of outdated old technologies ( I experienced this while learning ASM}

• USE case to Class Diagram - How do I?

  Hi, I would like your guidance on how to create classes and their relationships (generalization, association, aggregation and composition) accurately from my USE case diagram (please see below). I am trying to create this class diagram so I can use it to create a simple online PHP application that allows the user to register an account, login and logout, and store, search and retrieve data from a MySQL database. Are my classes correct? Or should I create more classes? And if so, what classes are missing? What relationships should I use when connecting the register, login, logout, search_database and add_to_database to the users? I'm new to design patterns and UML class diagrams but from my understanding, the association relationship relates one object with another object; the aggregation relationship is a special kind of association that allows "a part" to belong to more than one "whole" (e.g. a credit card and its PIN - the PIN class can also be used in a debit card class); and a composition relationship is a special form of aggregation that allows each part to belong to only one whole at a time. I feel like I have left out some classes or something because I just can't seem to find the relationships from my understanding of relationships. Any assistance will be really appreciated. • iphone certain PDFs rendering as black image

  I'm trying to draw the pages of a PDF using the code below. Some PDF's render correctly, but others simply show as a completely black image, or have partial portions rendered and the rest black. In comparing what's going on, the ones that show OK seem to have always have "regular" text in them along with some graphics (diagrams, etc.), while the ones that come out black are typically all graphics (like a page of sheet music, for example). Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I building this on the new 3.2 SDK. • Entity Framework 4 / POCO - Where to start?

  Hi, I've been programming for a while and have used LINQ-To-SQL and LINQ-To-Entities before (although when using entities it has been on a Entity/Table 1-1 relationship - ie not much different than L2SQL) I've been doing a lot of reading about Inversion of Control, Unit of Work, POCO and repository patterns and would like to use this methodology in my new applications. Where I'm struggling is finding a clear, concise beginners guide for EF4 which doesn't assume knowledge of EF1. The specific questions I need answered are: Code first / model first? Pros/cons in regards to EF4 (ie what happens if I do code first, change the code at a later date and need to regenerate my DB model - Does the data get preserved and transformed or dropped?) Assuming I'm going code-first (I'd like to see how EF4 converts that to a DB schema) how do I actually get started? Quite often I've seen articles with entity diagrams stating "So this is my entity model, now I'm going to ..." - Unfortunately, I'm unclear if they're created the model in the designer, saved it to generate code then stopped any further auto-code generation -or- They've coded (POCO)? classes and the somehow imported them into the deisgner view? I suppose what I really need is an understanding of where the "magic" comes from and how to add it myself if I'm not just generating an EF model directly from a DB. I'm aware the question is a little vague but I don't know what I don't know - So any input / correction / clarification appreciated. Needless to say, I don't expect anyone to sit here and teach me EF - I'd just like some good tutorials/forums/blogs/etc. for complete entity newbies Many thanks in advance
