• DOSBox 8.3 filenames disagree with Windows 7

  When I compare a dir in DOSBox 0.74 against a dir from Windows 7 command prompt, the 8.3 filenames differ. Long format (both drives and directories): 2012-07-30_abcdefg-abcde 2012-07-30_abcdefg-abcde.7z 2012-08-06_abcdefg-abcde 2012-08-06_abcdefg-abcde.7z 2012-10-22_IIS-LogFiles 2012-10-22_IIS-LogFiles.zip 2012-11-14_selective-abcde DOSBox 0.74 (dir): 2012-0~1 2012-0~3 2012-1~1 2012-1~3 2012-0~2 7Z 2012-0~4 7Z 2012-1~2 ZIP Windows 7 (dir /x): 2012-0~1 2012-0~1.7Z 2012-0~2 2012-0~2.7Z 2012-1~1 2012-1~1.ZIP 2012-1~2 so for instance if I'm passing in a path to DOSBox, sometimes this happens and whatever I'm trying to automate will fail.   I'm writing a server running as a Windows service that by request invokes Firefox to generate a pdf snapshot of a webpage. I know it is a bad idea to run a GUI program in service mode, but the server nature of my program restricts from running it in the user mode. Running a user-level 'proxy' also is not an option, since there might be no interactive user logged-in on the machine with the server running. In my experiments Firefox successfully produced pdf when the service was running under a user account that was already logged-in. Obviously it didn't work in other cases: for Local System and user accounts that weren't logged-in. Under LocalSystem with 'Allow service to interact with desktop' option enabled I could see the Firefox started that reports that it's unable to find a printer. Since it wouldn't be practical to require an opened user session for the pdf server to run, is there any workaround for this except running the whole thing from a virtual machine?

• Apache on Windows random long wait times

  I have a development machine with Apache installed as a service on Windows. The installation is fresh out of the box, with no changes to configuration aside from adding the PHP module. From day one, I've had a problem that looks like this: Essentially, Apache is freezing for about 11 seconds before replying on random requests. This appears to happen more frequently when the host hasn't been connected to in a while, but this is not always the case. I've eliminated MySQL, PHP, and the specific application; this long wait problem will occur even when loading a static file such as favicon.ico. Thus, the only factor remaining is Apache, which is freezing for consistently around 10-11 seconds before replying. The problem is not the DNS problem that many people point to; as you can see, the DNS lookup is instant, and the problem occurs both on localhost and 127.0.0.1. Thanks for the time.

  I'm wondering how Android's implementation of SQLite handles long Strings. Reading from online documentation on sqlite, it said that strings in sqlite are limited to 1 million characters. My strings are definitely smaller. I'm creating a simple RSS application, and after parsing a html document, and extracting text, I'm having problem saving it to a database. I have 2 tables in database, feeds and articles. RSS feeds are correctly saved and retrieved from feeds table, but when saving to the articles table, logcat is saying that it cannot save extracted text to it's column. I don't know if other columns are making problems too, no mention of them in logcat. I'm wondering, since text is from an article on web, are signs like (",',;) creating problems? Is Android automaticaly escaping them, or I have to do that. • Long lag and errors clicking gmail links in google chrome

  I recently downloaded Google Chrome with Ubuntu 9.04 and love it. Ironically one site I consistently have issues with is gmail. When I enter gmail I will click a link, say an email or the inbox link. After a very long wait (on the order of 30 seconds to a couple of minutes) my page will load with an error such as: Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem. If this problem persists, try reloading the page, using the older version, or using basic HTML mode. Learn More. Googling the symptoms has not helped. Has anyone else had any similar issues? • Empty AAAA DNS Record with long TTL?

  I pay for a DNS service based on queries per second. We are not using IPv6, but a large number of queries (that I pay for) are coming in for AAAA records. I understand that most DNS stacks will now ask for A and AAAAs at the same time, and that I can't change that. What I /would/ like to do is put something in the AAAA records with a long TTL. (decreasing my hit rate) Is there anything I can put? Null? The equivalent IPv4 Address? Any guidance would be appreciated.

  I am trying to run a long php process and it ends with the 500 internal server error. It executes fine for about 8 mins. I have rebooted the machine after changing the php settings. PHP Config: max_execution_time: 3600 After around 10 mins ps ax|grep php: 19007 ? S 0:08 /usr/bin/php /home/gypsy/public_html/index.php I have set the ignore_user_abort true. The process gets stuck at 00:08 min and isn't executed further. Apache error log shows the error: Script timed out before returning headers: index.php It seems somehow the max_execution_time isn't working. Any suggestion would be a great help.

• MySQL server simple insert/update/delete queries are taking a long time to execute

  We have a VPS hosting server with a MySQL server running on it. We host several databases for client's websites. Recently we have noticed that insert/update and delete queries are taking a long time to execute sometimes as close as 30 seconds. I use the following command to see these queries being executed: watch -n1 mysqladmin proc stat We have still not been able to track the root of this problem. I would apprecite if anyone had any pointers as to what we can check or improve to resolve the issue. Thanks

• Website project takes a long time to load in VS.NET 2008

  After getting a new computer (a lot faster than the one I've used before) my Solutions take A LONG TIME (3-4 minutes) to load up in VS.NET 2008. I only have 2 projects in the solution: DB Project and Website Project (from IIS). If I remove the Website Project from Solution - it loads up instantly, when I add that same website project to the OPEN Solution - it loads up instantly. The only time it's slow is when I open the solution referencing my Website project. I had the exact same setup (as far as VS is concerned) on my old box, and never had this problem. Any ideas?

All my sites cron is heavy, usually the cron running more than one minutes. my nginx.conf has become too big until nginx refuse to start because too many sites in it. it has been solved by increasing server_names_hash_max_size. Im planning to add more sites in my server Now, opening my website always showing 504 Gateway Time-out. I have tested many eaccelerator and PHP setting, but this 504 Gateway Time-out still happen. the 504 Gateway Time-out will dissappeared when cron is disabled I have no idea: is this because not enough processor power? • Running a VM off a USB 2.0 Flash Drive - Mac/Parallels/XP

  I use a MacBook Air as my primary machine, and the 128GB SSD means space is precious. To save about 10 GB, I've been running Parallels with a Windows XP VM off an external USB hard drive, which performs as well in everyday use as running the VM off the internal SSD. So, I bought a tiny 32GB USB 2.0 flash drive, plugged it into the MacBook Air, formatted it first as ExFAT (which was slow), then as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (which was also slow), and copied over my VM file, and ran Parallels off it. My full experience is documented here: http://www.midwesternmac.com/blogs/jeff-geerling/running-windows-xp-vm Straight file copies are really fast — 30 MB/sec read (solid the whole time), and 10-11 MB/sec write (solid the whole time). But I noticed that once XP started running, the disk access rates were in the low KB ranges. Are USB flash drives really that poor at random access, or could I possibly be missing something (the format of the flash drive, etc.?)? Of note, I've tried the following, to no great effect: Formatting the drive as either ExFAT or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Unplugging all other USB devices and turning off Bluetooth (which runs on the right-side-port USB bus).   This is my first time trying to set-up an ssl for one a site, and I'm running it on a server that has 3 other sites already hosted. I'm running apache2.?? and the install came with an ssl.conf page. I have two questions 1) Is there an error in the way I'm defining my virtualhost for 443?? the rest of my entries point to <VirtualHost *:80. When I comment out the above entry, apache runs fine. 2) do I need to set-up a redirect from port 80 for secure site? Because most users are going to go to http: or www. , and I need to send them to https: does apache do this automatically? or do i need to create an entry with a redirect?

  I have just finished moving my development server into a Ubuntu 10.04 Server VM in VMWare Fusion 3. I have all of my mysql and tomcat stuff running and am now trying to connect to my actual site files which are stored on my mac under /{User Root}/Workspace/ColdFusion/. I know that normally you should be able to setup a shared folder in VMWare and find it under /mnt/hgfs/{Share Name}, but I can't find it. I am not sure if I have to manually mount it or what.

• Hour-long shutdown duration "shutting down hyper-v virtual machine management service"

  I have a Windows 2008 R2 server that is a Hyper-V host (Dell PowerEdge T300). Today for the first time I encountered an odd situation; i lost connection with one of the guest machines but logging on physically it seems the guest OS is still running but no longer contactable via the network. I tried to shut down the guest machine (Windows XP) but it would not shut down, getting stuck in a "Not responding" dialog box that cannot be dismissed. I used the Hyper-V management console to reset the machine and it could not get out of resetting state. I tried to save another Windows 2003 guest machine, and it would be progress with its Saving state (0%). The other running Windows 2003 guest was stuck in the logon dialog. My first suspicion is perhaps one of the Windows update patches this week (10 Nov 2011) may something to do with it, which was still pending a system restart. Well, since I could not do anything with Hyper-V i proceeded with the Windows Update restart, and now it is stuck half an hour at "Shutting down hyper-v virtual machine management service" Prior to restarting I did not observe any hard disk errors reported in the system event log; doubt it is a disk-related condition. Shall I force a hard reboot? UPDATE Ok so i left it hanging over an hour while attending to other matters, and thankfully the host cleanly restarted. I can operate the guest machines fine now. Phew. Hyper-V must have been crawling for some reason. The VMs have been observed to become slow in the past when the host has been up for a long duration (two weeks to a month), but never this slow. Would love to know what types of performance monitoring items i can observe to give a hint why this can happen. UPDATE 2012-02-13 In the months ever since, Hyper-V has stalled into this state another two times. It appears so randomly and without any error event logs to hint what is causing it enter this "drunkard" state. Just an Hyper-V management service timeout. Every time I run into that case i tend to create constructor abominations with long parameter lists. It doesn't feel right, is hard to use and readability suffers. It is even worse if the fields are some sort of collection type like lists. A simple addSibling(S s) would ease the object creation so much but renders the object mutable. What do you guys use in such cases? I'm on Scala and Java, but i think the problem is language agnostic as long as the language is object oriented. Solutions I can think of: "Constructor abominations with long parameter lists" The Builder Pattern Thanks for your input!

• Copying a 14bit grayscale image (saved in long[]) to a pictureBox

  My camera gives me 14bit grayscale images, but the API's function returns a long* to the image data. (so i'm assuming 4 bytes for each pixel) My application is written in C++/CLI, and the pictureBox is of .NET type. I am currently using the BitmapData.LockBits() mechanism to gain pointer access to the image data, and using memcpy(bmpData.Scan0.ToPointer(), imageData, sizeof(long)*height*width) to copy the image data to the Bitmap. For now, the only PixelFormat that is working is 32bit RGB, and the image appears in shades of blue with contours. Trying to initialize the Bitmap as 16bppGrayscale isn't working. I would ideally want to cast the array from long to word and using a 16bit format (hoping the the 14bit data will be displayed properly) but I'm not sure if this works. Also, I don't want to iterate over the image data, so finding the min/max and then histogram stretching to [0..255] isnt an option for me (the display must be as efficient as possible) Thanks

• Custom "Very Long Int" Division Issue

  Hey everyone, So, for a very silly project in C++, we are making our own long integer class, called VLI (Very Long Int). The way it works (they backboned it, blame them for stupidity) is this: User inputs up to 50 digits, which are input as string. String is stored in pre-made Sequence class, which stores the string in an array, in reverse order. That means, when "1234" is input, it gets stored as [4|3|2|1]. So, my question is this: How can I go about doing division using only these arrays of chars? If the input answer is over 32 digits, I can't use ints to check for stuff, and they basically saying using long ints here is cheating. Any input is welcome, and I can give more clarification if need be, thanks everyone.

However, when I call my action using ajax, my ID is truncated and it loses the last 2 numbers because javascript loses precision when dealing with large numbers. My solution would be to give a string to my javascript, but the ID have to stay as a long on the server side. Is there a way to serialize the property as a string?
