• very slow internet with Linksys WRT54GL only in wireless mode (wired is OK)

  I bought a new Cisco Linksys WRT54GL router to connect my laptop (running Windows 7) to the internet. I installed Tomato 1.28 firmware on the router. When I connect the laptop to the router via ethernet cable, everything is fine and I get extremely fast up- and download speeds. When I connect wirelesssly however, websites load extremely slow - it takes dozens of seconds to load a website! <-- This is my question, how can I fix the wireless speed issue? Gmail for example is unusable this way. I tried speedtest.net, but this always fails in the upload part of the test so I can't even test the bandwidth (could the fact that it fails in the upload part, not the download part, be an indication what the problem is?!). I have isolated the problem a bit, I am convinced it has to do either with the router itself, the router settings, or the settings of the wireless connection in Win 7. Because previously, I was using another router by Buffalo and I had no problems whatsoever. I have tried to reproduce the settings from the Bufallo router as closely as possible on the Linksys router (same channel, same encryption etc). The download speed problem only occurs with the Linksys router, and only in wireless mode! When I exchange the Linksys router with the Buffalo router I have here for testing, the wireless speed is up to normal again. Also, before I had installed the Tomato firmware I had exactly the same problem, so it has nothing to do with the firmware itself. Notes & things I already tried: Changing the channel: does not seem to affect anything, I am also on the same channel (10) which I was previously on when I had a Buffalo router. QoS is off. Ping to the router itself is OK, ~ 1 ms. • Restored Domain Controller does not display any information using dcdiag command

  I am testing restoring a domain controller from system state backup to different hardware in a non production environment as a sanity check for our restoration procedure. When i run the dcdiag command I get "blank info back" and all that is displayed are two lines as follows: Domain Controller Diagnosis Performing initial setup: and then I am returned to the command prompt. Even when I do dcdiag /v i get the same result. I have double checked the DNS settings and Active Directory works properly. All FSMO roles are being held by this restored Domain Controller. I am able to join test pc's to the domain without issue etc Is this a common issue or is there something that I am missing. Thanks.

  Iam running Zend with Apache and got to see a strange behaviour.... If i type http://127.0.0.1 in my browser url, it works fine, but after typing: http://localhost, i will get a file download window, saying file type as: application/x-httpd-php And in my httpd.conf file, i have the following under VirtualHost *:80 definition: ServerName localhost DocumentRoot E:\zend\Apache2\htdocs\my_project\public Directory E:\zend\Apache2\htdocs\my_project\public Perhaps some configuration problem... can anyone guide me..

  Hey there! I want to assemble a cheap storage sytem based on the Norco RPC-4020 Case. When searching for controllers I found this one: Intel® RAID Controller SASWT4I This is a quote form the Spec Sheet: Scalability. Supports up to 122 physical devices in SAS mode which is ideal for employing JBODs (Just a Bunch Of Disks) or up to 14 devices in RAID 0, 1, 1E/10E mode through direct connect device attachment or through expander backplane support. Does that mean I can attatch 14 SATA drives directly to the controller using SFF-8087 - 4x SATA breakout cables? That would be nice because then I can choose a mainboard that has 6 Onboard SATA and i can connect all 20 bays while only spending 155$ on the controller and like another 100$ on cables. Would that work? And why is it 14 and not 16 when there are 4 Ports? I am really confused about all the breakout/fanout/(edge-)expanding/multiplying/channel stuff...

• DD-WRT - Where's the best place to get a LinkSys WRT54G V1.0?

  Looking for the initial release of the LinkSys WRT54G, not V1.1 or V2.0 or anything like that. If it comes with DD-WRT pre-installed, even better. That being said, I suppose a side question would be whether SU recommends different hardware. After all, DD-WRT may have been originally built for the WRT54G and the WRT54Gv1.0 may have better hardware than any of the successive models, but it's still fairly dated. Are there newer routers that are more stable or performant with DD-WRT?

• How can I minimize the amount my router slows down my Internet connection speed?

  Background I'm working with what I assume is a pretty common Internet setup: a cable modem, a wireless router and a few Internet-connected devices. Lately, I've started being more demanding on my Internet connection, and noticed that using my router slows down my download speeds considerably. I just kind of dealt with it until Zune Marketplace on the Xbox 360 told me that a movie was going to take well over ten hours to download, and I just didn't want to wait that long. Good little scientist that I am, I tried to reduce the problem down to one variable. The test As a control, I turned off all the devices in the house that use wireless Internet, and unplugged all the wired devices except for the Xbox. I also power-cycled both the modem and the router. I then tried to download the movie again, and was told that it would still take over ten hours. Next, I unplugged the router, and connected the Xbox directly to the modem. The movie downloaded in just over one hour. As far as I can tell, this means that my ISP, other cable users near me, the remote servers, anything wireless-related and my machines' disk speeds can't be at fault. A similar experiment that replaced the Xbox with a wired laptop produced similar results. To me, this says "the router is responsible for things taking around ten times longer to download." My question I'd still prefer to use the router for a few reasons: it's a pain to connect and disconnect everything every time there's a big file to download direct connection to the modem isn't good for security only one machine can be connected directly to the modem at a time What can I do to have fast connection speeds while still using the router? I don't mind turning other machines off, as long as I don't have to mess with power and ethernet cables. EDIT : After asking this followup question and then this one, I installed dd-wrt on my router, and I seem to be getting higher and more consistent speeds. Perhaps more importantly, my memory use is fairly constant. I know this isn't an answer — which is why I'm not posting it as an answer — but it is how I resolved the situation, and hopefully it'll be helpful for someone.

• Wifi problems with Ubuntu 13.10

  I should probably say straight off that I am brand new to Ubuntu. I installed 13.10 alongside Windows 7 a couple of days ago and I've managed to clear up all the little problems, apart from with the wifi. My internet is fine using an ethernet cable. I can connect to the wifi, and it tells me that the signal is good, but for the vast majority of the time I can't load anything, and system monitor tells me that I am sending and receiving nothing. The problem is somewhere in Ubuntu. It works fine on Windows 7, my Android phone and all of my flatmates laptops. I know I'm not the only one with this problem, but the fixes I've seen either don't work or I don't understand them enough to carry them out. Help? • Ubuntu Server 12.04, NAT, Router, DNS. It just doesnt work

  I recently inherited some server hardware from work and decided that it could be my main router at home (among other things). Ubuntu 12.04 server installation harware wise goes well and everything is found and working when I boot up. So I begin with setting up eth1 with DHCP. This works fine and it gets a public IP address from my modem and we have a working internet connection. Then I set up my other NIC (eth0) as static (192.168.0.1) and this also works fine. I can access it from other computers in the network. The problems are coming when I am trying to set up a DHCP server with isc-dhcp-server. It seems like it is working and giving the computers IP adresses but after one reboot it stops working. After the reboot eth1 will get a public ip from the modem but it doesnt have internet access. I have to manually run dhcpcd eth1 to get it to work again. As far as I know I havent made any changes to DNS. What am I doing wrong? I have never really had problems with this before. :)

• Rails exit controller after rendering

  I have an action in my controller that I am having trouble with. This is my first rails app, so I'm not sure of the best practices surrounding rails. I have a model called Group and a few actions that go in it's controller. I have written a test that should cause the controller to render an error in JSON because of an invalid Group ID. Instead of rendering and exiting, it looks like the controller is rendering and continuing to execute. Test test 'should not remove group because of invalid group id' do post(:remove, {'group_id' => '3333'}) response = JSON.parse(@response.body) assert_response :success assert_equal 'Success', response['message'] end Controller action # Post remove # group_id def remove if((@group = Group.find_by_id(params[:group_id])) == nil) render :json => { :message => "group_id not found" } end @group.destroy if(!Group.exists?(@group)) render :json => { :message => "Success" } else render :json => { :errors => @group.errors.full_messages } end end In the controller, the first if statement executes: render :json => { :message => "group_id not found" } but @group.destroy is still being executed. This seems counter-intuitive to me, I would think that the render method should exit the controller. Why is the controller not exiting after render is called? The purpose of this block of code is to recover gracefully when no record can be found with the passed in ID. Is this the correct way of doing something like this?

• Realtek RTL8111/8168B wired network doesn't work anymore

  This sounds like it's a common problem upgrading 11.04, but I am having trouble finding a common solution, and one that will work for me. I just applied updates via the update manager and now my wired network connection is down. I know Ubuntu network settings is the issue, because I have a dual-boot with Win 7 and my network/internet is fine on Win 7. I don't know too much about networking, so what can I do to trouble shoot this issue? I can choose an older grub version, 2.6.38-8 instead of 2.6.38-11 and this does not resolve the issue.   The Zend Tutorial lists many assertions to check the output generated by a request. http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/zend.test.phpunit.html But they all seem to assume that the output is html. I need to test json output instead. Are there any assertions helpful to check json, or is there at least a generic way to make assertions against the output? Anything that doesn't rely on the request outputting html?

  hello everyone, I downloaded cahoots from sourceforge.net. It is a zend framework application. Very nicely done and I must say that it should be a nice tutorial for everyone who is struggling to learn Zend framework. But my problem is that even after reading the instructions this application is still not running. The application just doesn't run at all giving an error message. I have tried my best. no success :( Also I wanted to execute the application as "http://localhost/cahoots" but it runs by this URL "http://localhost/cahoots/public". why is it so.? I am using XAMPP v 1.7.1 with mod-rewrite enabled. Please guide me through the process. Any good tutorials on zend framework with zend tool would be appreciable. I want to learn this framework.   server side is PHP + zend framework. problem: i have huge of data appox 5000 records and no of columns are 5 in input.txt file. i like to read all data into memory only once and send some data to the every browser request. but if i update that input.txt file then updated data must be auto synchronized to that memory location. so i need to solve that problem by using memory caching technique.but caching technique has expire time.but if input.txt is updated before cache expire then i need to auto synchronize to that memory location. now i am using zend framework 1.10.is it possible in zend framework. can anybody give me some line of code of zendfrmawork i have no option to use memchached server(distributed).   In zend framework I register my namespace like this (in application.php): 'autoloaderNamespaces' => array( 'Cms_' ) And after this - I'd expect that Zend would always check that path in addition to Zend and ZendX paths if unknown class is called. But for some reason this doesn't work with for example view helpers. I still have to register a separate path for my view helpers even though view helper scripts are named according to Zend coding standards and are located in: Cms/View/Helper/ And this is how I register helper path in config file: view' => array( 'charset' => 'UTF-8', 'doctype' => 'XHTML1_TRANSITIONAL', 'helperPath' => array( 'Cms_View_Helper_' => 'Cms/View/Helper' ) ), So - I'm not sure why I have to register "Cms" namespace twice first through 'autoloaderNamespaces' and then through View "helperPath"? Shouldn't Cms namespace include Cms/View/Helper namespace? can someone plz clarify this:)
