• Problematic comboBox Windows Forms

  Hi, I use VS2008 C# + Windows Forms. I can't understand why comboBox does not behave the way it should. In Design mode, I added a comboBox to my form, and edit Items to add "A" and "B". Double-clicking brings me to SelectedIndexChanged event, which I edit to display the selected text with MessageBox. private void comboBoxImageSet_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show(comboBoxImageSet.SelectedText); } When I run, and select "A" or "B" in the comboBox, the MessageBox appears, but nothing is written. Why? Thanks.

  I'm trying to make a simple String to SHA1 converter in Java and this is what I've got... public static String toSHA1(byte[] convertme) { MessageDigest md = null; try { md = MessageDigest.getInstance("SHA-1"); } catch(NoSuchAlgorithmException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return new String(md.digest(convertme)); } When I pass it toSHA1("password".getBytes()), I get "[?a?????%l?3~??." I know it's probably a simple encoding fix like UTF-8, but could someone tell me what I should do to get what I want which is "5baa61e4c9b93f3f0682250b6cf8331b7ee68fd8"? Or am I doing this completely wrong? Thanks a lot!

• Why is it so hard to build a gtk programe without console using cmake in windows?

  I'm following the tuto: http://zetcode.com/tutorials/gtktutorial/firstprograms/ It works but each time I double click on the executable,there is a console which I don't want it there. How do I get rid of that console? I tried this: add_executable(Cmd WIN32 cmd.c) But got this fatal error: MSVCRTD.lib(crtexew.obj) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _WinMain@16 referenced in function ___tmainCRTStartup Cmd.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals While using gcc directly works: gcc -o Cmd cmd.c -mwindows .. I'm guessing it has something to do with the entry function: int main( int argc, char *argv[]),but why gcc works? How can I make it work with cmake?

  I used sharppcap to capture TCP packets. Now i wanna reconstruct HTTP packet from TCP packets but i don't know how. I read somewhere i can find start of HTTP packet in TCP data... i tried to convert byte[] TCP data to string using this code: string s = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetString(tcp_pack.Data); but the string isn't readable. like a binary file that is opened with notepad. is it because the data is encrypted or code is incorrect? how can i reconstruct HTTP packet from TCP packets?

• Java: PriorityQueue returning incorrect ordering from custom comparator??

  I've written a custom comparator to compare my node classes, but the java priority queue is not returning my items in the correct order. Here is my comparator: public int compare(Node n1, Node n2){ if (n1.getF() > n2.getF()){ return +1; } else if (n1.getF() < n2.getF()){ return -1; } else { // equal return 0; } } Where getF returns a double. However after inserting several Nodes into the priority queue, I print them out using: while(open.size() > 0) { Node t = (Node)(open.remove()); System.out.println(t.getF()); } Which results in: 6.830951894845301 6.830951894845301 6.0 6.0 5.242640687119285 7.4031242374328485 7.4031242374328485 8.071067811865476 Any ideas why this is so?   I have a socketChannel configured as blocking, but when reading byte buffers of 5K from this socket, I get an incomplete buffer sometimes. ByteBuffer messageBody = ByteBuffer.allocate(5*1024); messageBody.mark(); messageBody.order(ByteOrder.BIG_ENDIAN); int msgByteCount = channel.read(messageBody); Ocasionally, messageBody is not completely filled and channel.read() does not return -1 or an exception, but the actual number of bytes read (which is less than 5k). Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

  Hi guys, i'm trying to read contents of PNG file. As you may know, all data is written in a 4-byte manner in png files, both text and numbers. so if we have number 35234 it is save in this way: [1000][1001][1010][0010]. but sometimes numbers are shorter, so the first bytes are zero, and when I read the array and cast it from char* to integer I get wrong number. for example [0000] [0000] [0001] [1011] sometimes numbers are misinterpreted as negative numbers and simetimes as zero! let me give you an intuitive example: char s_num[4] = {120, 80, 40, 1}; int t_num = 0; t_num = int(s_num); => 3215279148 ?????? the result should be 241 but the output is 3215279148? I wish I could explain my problem well! how can i cast such arrays into a single integer value?

• How can chunks be allocated in a node.js stream in object mode all at once?

  I can see how buffers, and strings can be sent as chunks, but I'm having a problem thinking about how streams can be dealt when working in object mode. Say I have a byte stream from an http request message. I want to take that message, parse, and then transform it into one big object. I already know how to parse the message. What I'm wondering is if the message is big so it has many chunks, but I want to make one object for the output how can I make sure the data event waits for the whole thing? Is this just a matter of not using the push method until the chunked data has finished being sent? That would then restrict the stream data output to a smaller object which I think I'm fine with for now. As an added condition the larger data will be reduced in size after the the transform.

  I have some code to encrypt some strings in Python. Encrypted text is used as a parameter in some urls, but after encrypting, there comes backslashes in string and I cannot use single backslash in urllib2.urlopen. I cannot replace single backslash with double. For example: print cipherText '\t3-@\xab7+\xc7\x93H\xdc\xd1\x13G\xe1\xfb' print cipherText.replace('\\','\\\\') '\t3-@\xab7+\xc7\x93H\xdc\xd1\x13G\xe1\xfb' Also putting r in front of \ in replace statement did not worked. • How to I get raw 'mouse' events with touch screens on Windows Vista/7?

  Does anyone have a clue how to completely disable the touch/tablet 'magic' introduced in Windows Vista? When I follow the steps on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb969148(VS.85).aspx (both SetProp disable and WM_TABLET_QUERYSYSTEMGESTURESTATUS override) I succeed in stopping windows from treating press-and-hold as a right-click (it correctly gives me a WM_LBUTTONDOWN), but it also gives me a premature WM_LBUTTONUP (before I really let go of the screen). And there is also another problem: a click followed by a drag (down, up, down, move) is treated as a double-click (down, up, down, up, move). These issues occur with two very different touch screens (so it is not a hardware problem), and it never used to happen with Windows XP. This really bugs me. I would much rather have the raw input events like you have for normal mouse clicks. Any ideas?

  I am trying to read metadata from a file. I only need the Video - Length property, however I am unable to find a simple way of reading this information. I figured this would be fairly easy since it is visible by default in Explorer, however this looks to be way more complicated than I anticipated. The closest I came was using: Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.Video video = new Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.Video(str); double duration = video.Duration; However this throws a LoaderLock exception, and I don't know how to deal with it.   Read this on the oracle docs java.lang page: Frequently it is necessary to represent a value of primitive type as if it were an object. The wrapper classes Boolean, Character, Integer, Long, Float, and Double serve this purpose. I'm not sure I understand why these are needed. It says they have useful functions such as equals(). But if I can do (a==b), why would I ever want to declare them as Integer, use more memory and use equals()? How does the memory usage differ for the 2?

• Reading bytes from JavaScript string

  I have a string containing binary data in JS. Now I want to read, for example, an integer from it. So I get the first 4 characters, use charCodeAt, do some shifting etc. to get an integer. Problem is that strings in JS are UTF-16 (instead of ASCII) and charCodeAt often returns values higher than 256. The Mozilla reference states that "The first 128 Unicode code points are a direct match of the ASCII character encoding." (what about ASCII values 128?) How can I convert the result of charCodeAt to an ASCII value? Or is there a better way to convert a string of four characters to a 4 byte integer?

  I have a 2D array called "results." Each "row" array in results contains both string and integer values. I'm using this script to sort the array by any "column" on an onclick event: function sort_array(results, column, direction) { var sorted_results = results.sort(value); function value(a,b) { a = a[column]; b = b[column]; return a == b ? 0 : (a < b ? -1*direction : 1*direction) } } This works fine for the columns with strings. But it treats the columns of integers like strings instead of numbers. For example, the values 15, 1000, 200, 97 would be sorted 1000, 15, 200, 97 if "ascending" or 97, 200, 15, 1000 "descending." I've double-checked the typeof the integer values, and the script knows they're numbers. How can I get it to treat them as such?

  We're trying to figure out the best way to write tests in our test plan. Specifically, when writing a test that is meant to be used by anyone including QA staff, should the steps in the test be very specific or more broad giving the tester more leeway in how the task can be accomplished. As a very simple example, if you're testing opening a document in word processing document, should the test read: Using the mouse, open the file menu Choose "Open File..." in the file menu In the open file dialog that appears, navigate to x and double-click the document called y OR Bring up the file open dialog Open the file y Now I realize one answer is probably going to be "it depends on what you're trying to test" but I'm trying to answer a broader question here: If the test steps are too specific do we risk a) making the testing process to laborious and tedious and more importantly b) do we risk missing something because we wrote down too specific a path to achieve a goal. Alternatively, if we make it broad do we depend too much on the whims of the tester at the time and lose crucial testing of paths that are more common to customers/clients?

Cannot find symbol. Symbol: showMessageDialog() Edit 1 Now I changed it to this: @Action public void HelloClickMethod() { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(this, "The message!", "This is supposed to be the MessageBox title.",JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } However the IDE is saying I have an error in the word 'this'. "Cannot find symbol". I don't understand. Why is it so dificult and why are the errors so esoteric. :P

• Why does the infobox in my MSN Map not close?

  I'm having a bit of trouble with this map, invoked by the "View our interactive map" button in the middle of the content area. If you double click a point such as 8 which causes a zoom and then afterwards it causes the info box to appear, the hide logic is wrong. If you try to close the x, it will fail. This is probably because the user clicked too fast and the map thinks its in zoom mode when infact it should be in info box mode. Has anyone ran into this issue before? Looks like I have to mess around with window.ero.hide and some other functions.. because map.HideInfoBox doesn't hide the map. EDIT: The script used is here. I did not code it, but the relevant bit has: onclick="EnableEroHide();map.HideInfoBox();changePin();return false;" The map.HideInfoBox() should hide the info box.
