• phpbb behind a reverse proxy

  Hi, i've got a django app running on apache behind an nginx reverse proxy. Nginx takes requests on port 80 and forwards them to apache on 127.0.0.1:81. This works fine. Now I want to run phpbb on apache under /forums. My problem is that when phpbb does a redirect, it seems to redirect to the internal apache port, rather than port 80. So, for instance when I first go to http://my-dev-server/forums to configure php bb, it immediately redirects to http://127.0.0.1:81/forums/install/index.php. Is there something I need to do in nginx/apache/phpbb config to get it to redirect to the external port? Thanks very much!

• Adding unallocated partition to Ubuntu in VMware

  I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a Windows XP using vmware. As most do, I initially setup the size of the virtual drive to 8GB and soon realized I need more. I used the VMware utility to expand the virtual drive and added another 4GB, which I can see using GParted. Now my dilemma is how can I "merge" the newly created space to my original? I need to add the unallocated space. I tried before and after formatting the new space but still whenever I try to resize/move /dev/sda1 it looks like it is using its maximum capacity. Also, GParted is being used from the GParted live CD not from the Linux live CD.

I've tried clearing cache on firefox and it didn't help, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the way HAProxy parses through the Firefox request headers.

• SQL Server backup/restore error: The Media Family on Device is Incorrectly Formed.

  Basically, I'm having this issue: http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting047.htm What I'm doing is running a script I found online (http://pastebin.com/3n0ZfybL) to do a full backup, then rar'ing up the file and moving it to my computer. The CRC of the backup file inside the rar is correct on both computers, so there is no problem with data being corrupted when I transfer it. But then I go and try to restore the database on my dev computer here and I get the errors "sql server cannot process this media family" ... "msg 3013". Why is this happening? I'd test out the backup on the server I'm getting it from, but it's a production server.

• Need help connecting to SRW2024 Linksys Switch from CentOS 5.4

  I am configured a Linksys SRW2024, I accidently changed the management VLAN before changing the VLAN configuration thus I can no longer access it with the net. The only way I have read to get into it now is via a console cable, my laptop with me is a MacBook Pro with no Serial port connection, apart from driving around a town that I am unfamilar with to find an adapter I thought I would try on a Linux box. I have a CentOS 5.4 server here (PowerEdge R300) that I am trying to use to talk to the switch. I tried minicom first but I do not see the console. Another site suggested the screen command. I tried "screen /dev/ttyS0 38400" but all I get is blinking curser, I do not see the configuration. I don't know if anyone here as any tips but I hope someone does. Thank You,

• SOLR high CPU usage in amazon EC2

  I installed solr-3.6 in my local windows box and it worked fine. I installed solr-4.0 in amazon ec2 linux large instance and the cpu usage shot upto 100%. It maintained at 80-90% average cpu power. I thought it could be because of 4.0, So I installed 3.6 in EC2 again. But again the CPU usage was 80-90% average. With both the versions, solr works in EC2. dont know why CPU usage is so high. i started the solr server using "sudo nohup java -jar start.jar &" In my local box java 1.7 is installed and in EC2 it is 1.6.0_24. I have mapped solr dir to an EBS volume. /dev/mapper/vg1-solr 8361916 1935928 6342128 24% /home/ec2-user/SOLR/solr/example/solr Is there any known issue ?

  I was enjoying a Movie when my Ubuntu suddenly hung. At the next reboot, here is the message: One or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab cannot yet be mounted: /home: waiting for /dev/disk/by-uuid/.... Press ESC to enter a recovery shell. Problems: When I enter recovery shell, I don't know that to do. If I press Ctrl+D, then the message above will reappear. What should I do? I checked with Ubuntu Live CD and my partition looks OK.

• OpenVPN Setup - Service Won't Start

  I'm in the process of setting up OpenVPN on a VPS running Debian 6. I've walked step-by-step through this guide twice now, and I can't get the service to start. When I start the service, the error reported in the log file is: Cannot ioctl TUNSETIFF tun: Inappropriate ioctl for device (errno=25) I've searched the web a few times and I'm not finding anything helpful. I've tried: Changing file permissions: no change Deleting the file: get an error stating no file found (errno=2) Making a folder named "tun": get an error stating no file found (errno=2) I've wiped my installation and completed the steps verbatim twice now. I get no errors along the way, just the error above within my log file. The contents of my server.conf file are listed below, minus all the comments for brevity. • Alternative to the tee command whitout STDOUT

  I'm using | sudo tee FILENAME to be able to write or append to a file for which superuser permissions are required quite often. Although I understand why it is helpful in some situation, that tee also sends its input to STDOUT again, I never ever actually used that part of tee for anything useful. In most situations, this feature only causes my screen to be filled with unwanted jitter, if I don't go the extra step and manually silence it with tee 1> /dev/null. My question: Is there is a command arround, which does exactly the same thing as tee, but does by default not output anything to STDOUT?

• Unresponsive virtual OS

  Hopefully someone has a suggestion on how to resolve this. Configuration Host: Win 2003R2 w/Virtual Server 2005R2 Virtual1: Win 2003R2 w/Sql Server 2005 Virtual2: Win 2003R2 w/WSS 3.0 Situation This past weekend the power went out and took down the servers (no UPS, it's a desktop standing in as dev testing server). Since the servers went down the Virtual2 server after running WSS fairly heavily for an hour to two will become unresponsive via HTTP. If I login via virtual server's remote control I don't get anything beyond a background screen. The CPU counter on the virtual server's master status shows that it isn't doing anything. The only thing I have been able to do is to turn off Virtual2, which loses any state changes. Shutdown commands issue from the virtual server master status are ignored. After restarting Virtual2 the event logs and application logs don't indicate what caused the problem. Anyone have an idea as to how to repair the OS, or maybe what could be the problem? PL2303 Serial Port an modprobe usbserial raises: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/3.3.3/modules.dep: No such file or directory in the /lib/modules/ Folder there is instead a 2.6.36-Folder uname -r gives 3.3.3 How can I overcome this mismatch? Can I create a symlink? I can't flash this embedded device since it is deployed somewhere, only ssh? Please advise!

  After installing IIS on my dev system, window xp professional, its asking for username and password while trying to access http://localhost. Can you please help me out. Tried googling and tried may things but could not resolve the issue. • How do you set up DNS in Window Server 2008 in a Hyper-V environment?

  I have a laptop running Server 2008 and Hyper-V. I have created a virtual machine that is also running Server 2008, that I used dcpromo to create as a domain controller. I disabled IPv6 because I had no idea how to enter a default address, and I just wanted to make a standalone MOSS dev environment. I have tried every combination of creating a virtual network on the host and then connecting to that in the VM, but I can't get the VM to communicate with the host and vice versa. No pinging, no copy and paste, nothing. Thanks. To update: My VM (which is its own DC) currently does not have a static IP. When I set the IP to static, I could not find anything that would let it talk to the host machine.

• Why does a zip file appear larger than the source file especially when it is text?

  I have a text file that is 19 bytes in size and having compressed the file using zip and 7zip, it appears to be larger. I had a read of the question on Why is a 7zipped file larger than the raw file? as well as Why doesn't ZIP Compression compress anything? but considering the file is not already compressed I would have expected further compression. Attached is a screenshot. EDIT0 I took the example further by creating a file that contained random data as follows dd if=/dev/urandom of=sample.log bs=1G count=1 and attempted to compress the file using both zip and 7zip however there were no compression gains. Why is that?

  My google-fu must be sucking. i havent been able to find a good solution for the following: numerous Linux server on commodity hardware Trying to do a recovery mirror copy to external harddrives External harddrives are smaller than source harddrives, but larger than data External drives are connected via usb2 (slow) Servers range from 20GB of data to 400GB of data Servers are remote, so hands on access is a pain need to copy boot files. empty external drives currently Basicly, looking for a way to do use a ghosting solution from INSIDE a running linux server to an external harddrive, without booting a cd etc. the rsync/cpio solutions i've looked at dont work great with grub/dev/proc etc. I understand that since the system isnt offline, it wont be a "mirror" image as files change, but thats ok. Are there any free/commercial products that would work?

All the web developers, administrators and IT need to access to the share. I found out that creating a svn server is the best way for me, so I created it on a Ubuntu Server which is virtualized on Hyper-V. Right now I have the repos local on the Ubuntu Server but I'd like them on my network drive and I'd like to have a post-commit, if possible, in order to ftp directly on my live server. Do you guys think that a WebDav solution would be better? Thanks in advance Angelo

• Ubuntu server hangs on reboot "could not stat resume device file"

  Instead of booting into the running system this machine stops and on the terminal I can see a message: could not stat resume device file /dev/sdb5 When I attach a keyboard and press enter the boot continues and the machine comes up like normal. But it's essential that this machine comes up under most circumstancs alone. There never was something like a "resume" on this machine. I tried several times to reboot, but this does not happen on all boots, I can not find a pattern here. There is a software raid running on the box. We do not need resumes and best would be something that works here and now.

  Arch Linux shows a blinking cursor instead of a booting installer. I ran sudo dd if=archlinux-2010.05-core-i686.iso of=/dev/sdb1 and checked the MD5 sums. I tried to boot it on two different PCs and got the same result: instead of booting GRUB — or anything useful, for that matter — it just showed a blinking cursor at the top left corner of the screen. The machines became unresponsive to any kind of input, the flash drive LED didn't seem to blink or shiver at all and there seemed to be no other activity whatsoever. I tried using another flash drive, but the machine completely ignored it, booting Windows "normally."

• fstab line for auto mount drive that all users can read/write

  I have installed a cable that connects from the CPU's SATA motherboard connection to a removable drives' ESATA connection. I would like to be able to swap drives on the ESATA connection and have all users be able to read and write to these drives. I have created the directory /archive/ where I would like the drive(s) to mount. The drives are all formatted Fat 32 - but in the future I may use HFS for formatting. When I used the command (as root): mount /dev/sdc1 /archive the drive was mounted (but read only) What can I use in my /etc/fstab file that will allow drives to be mounted and unmounted by all users on the system? (both reading and writing) Also, will I be able to mount and unmount these drives without shutting down? or will I need to reboot every time I want to change drives? Thank you. Jeff

• No virtual console on ubuntu 12.10

  When I try to do a ctr-alt f(1-6) in ubuntu 12.10 I only get a black screen with a blinking cursor but no login prompt. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
