  • Server 2008/Windows 7/Samba Unspecified error 80004005

    I have a Samba share on a LAN with 2008 PDC/DNS. Smb authenticates with AD and I have several Win7 Machines that can connect fine. I recently added a couple of new computers to the LAN which were imaged the same way (same software, etc.; different hardware so different drivers) as the other machines and they have the same policies set. I can not get the new machines to connect to the samba share no matter what. I am always met with either Unspecified Error 0x80004005 or Network Path not found. I've turned off the firewall; set LANMAN auth to respond to NTLM only/send LM & NTLM responses/use NTLM session security if negotiated in Local Sec Policy SEcurity Options; tried both ip and hostname to connect.     I was just browsing through the site and found this question: My server's been hacked EMERGENCY. Basically the question says: My server has been hacked. What should I do? The best answer is excellent but it raised some questions in my mind. One of the steps suggested is to: Examine the 'attacked' systems to understand how the attacks succeeded in compromising your security. Make every effort to find out where the attacks "came from", so that you understand what problems you have and need to address to make your system safe in the future. I have done no system admin work so I have no idea how I would start doing this. What would be the first step? I know that you could look in the server log files but as an attacker the first thing that I would do would be errasing the log files. How would you "understand" how the attacks succeeded?

  • Home Server restore fails cannot find boot device

    I am using Windows Home Server to backup my PCs. I recently had a hard drive failure on one of my WHS connected PCs and obtained an identical sized/speed drive for my laptop. I used the latest home server restore CD and did the restore. It said it completed successfully. Upon reboot, it says 'cannot find boot device' and lists all my drives (hard drive, cd, network book) indicating no valid operating system was found. I boot using the Win7 repair disk and while it doesn't see the operating system, it sees the drive and if I go into a command prompt, I can see all my data on the drive. My laptop is Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate. I've tried most everything I can think of. I'm a technical user (software developer) so I'm pretty aware of how things work (or should). I don't feel like I'm missing a simple step here.

    hi there, i`m using sql server ce together with sync framework. however, sync framework creates some system tables when calling the CreateSchema() method of the SqlCeClientSyncProvider. (e.g. __sysSyncArticle, __sysSyncSubscription, ...). i'm not able to delete these tables with sql statements within Visual Studio. (states that "drop table is not supported") and when trying to just create a SqlCeCommand i get a message that the specified tables does not exist. what does it take to delete sql ce system tables programmatically? thanks

    After I updated to the newest version the Azure SDK I have started to get this error several times each day when I press build in Visual Studio. The only way for me to fix it at the moment is to restart my visual studio. The error I get is: Windows Azure Tools: Invalid access to memory location Is there someone else that have got this error? And also what did you do to fix it? Thanks in advance! Update 2012-08-28: The same error still exist in VS2012 and Azure 1.7 SDK. However the frequency have gone down with VS2012.

    Is this some new "feature" for thunderbird 8? When I start thunderbird it starts by opening thunderbird. Once it is loading thunderbird it loads another 6 thunderbirds. The windows are called Mozilla Thunderbird Inbox - [email protected] - Mozilla Thuderbird Inbox - [email protected] - Mozilla Thuderbird Inbox - [email protected] - Mozilla Thuderbird Inbox - [email protected] - Mozilla Thuderbird (yes it repeats the same one a few times) Inbox - [email protected] - Mozilla Thuderbird I have 7 email accounts but for whatever reason it only made 3 windows. What happened to the one window? When I minimize to tray I got 4 of thunderbird icons. When closing one of them all of the close. My other windows 7(32 bit not 64 bit) only have one instance.

    I'm working on a program which uses the System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Break() method to allow the user to set a breakpoint from the command-line. This has worked fine for many weeks now. However, when I was working on fixing a unit test today, I tried to use the debug switch from the command-line, and it didn't work. Here's what I've tried: I've confirmed that the Debug() method is really being called (by putting a System.Console.WriteLine() after it) I've confirmed that the build is still in Debug I've done a clean build I've restarted Product Studio A quick Google search didn't reveal anything, and the API documentation for .Net doesn't mention anything about this function not performing correctly. So... any ideas?

  • Unable to load type error in ASP.NET 4 application on Windows Server 2003 / IIS6 -- only happens after first worker process recycle

    I'm running an ASP.NET 4.0 web application on IIS6 (Windows Server 2003 x64). This app is one of many running on this server under the Default Web Site -- but is alone on it's own application pool because the other sites are all running ASP.NET 2.0 still. When I deploy my application, it works just fine until the application pool recycles or kills its worker process (by default 2 hours or 20 minutes with no activity).     I have nginx 1.2.0-1 on debian 6.0.5. I have file test.css. I fill it with "abcd1234". Open it in browser. Then I change the content to "mnop". I receive "abcd" in response. I have all the files in folder shared between Windows (host) and Debian (guest) using Virtual Box. When I put the file elsewhere the problem does not occur! Any idea what can cause this? However, there is a nasty thing: Whenever I loggin in, I see this message: Error The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet" Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration [Don't Delete] [Delete] If I press [Delete] then the error won't be shown anymore. However, for every new created account, the message shown again (use created using sudo adduser user_name). Since I clone this OS into several virtual instance, and create new account on these instances. I wonder if there is a way to configure my ubuntu so that new created user don't have to see this annoy message? Thanks

    What is Google map's spatial reference system using when you enter a lat, long into the maps search bar? I've found hints that it might be WGS84 but after converting to that coordinate system, nothing shows up when i paste the coordinates into the google maps search box. I am converting from GDA MGA 56.   • Time machine link error

    When attempting to perform a Time Machine backup, the backup appears to proceed as normal, until it finishes copying files at which point it complains that an "error occurred while linking files for" one of my external hard disks. During the previous backup that particular disk was in fact empty, and therefore I can't understand why Time Machine is attempting to link back to it. But alas. I've verified all my disks using Disk Utility and they all appear to be fine. Does anybody know what causes this error, and how I might go about fixing it? Failing that is there a way to force Time Machine to create a brand new backup rather than an incremental one? Thanks in advance!

  • System context menu Icon not transparent like WinRAR

    I added a icon at the system context menu(the popped up menu when we right mouse click on any file/foler). But the icon is not transparent(in xp its not notice able, but in vista/win7 it is clearly visible) there is a white background beneath the icon. But WinRAR or TortoiseSVN icons don't have any white background, they are transparent.     I'm trying to block everyone but 1 IP address from my site on a server running apache & centos. My setup is follows the example below. My server: `http://www.myserver.com/` My .htaccess file <limit GET> order deny,allow deny from all allow from 176.219.192.141 </limit> ErrorDocument 403 http://www.google.com ErrorDocument 404 http://www.google.com When I visit http://www.myserver.com/ from an invalid IP, it gives me a generic 403 error. When I visit http://www.myserver.com/page-does-not-exist/ it redirects me correctly to http://www.google.com but I can't figure out why the 403 error doesn't redirect me too. Anyone have any ideas?
