    I run a website Cucumbertown with an initial pay load of nearly 9KB zipped. All my js is delayed loaded with requirejs and modernizer is the only exception. Now all my webpages are Nginx cached and only 10-15% hits go to the backend proxy. And the cache is invalidated by logged in users as proxy_cache_bypass. So for an anonymous user its nearly always a cache hit. I have some basic OS tuning with default via ip dev eth0 initcwnd 15 net.ipv4.tcp_slow_start_after_idle 0 Despite an all cache & large initcwnd my pages still take 2.5 – 3 seconds. I have a yslow score of And page speed at Are there strategies that can help deliver webpages even faster than this? Deliver pages at 1+ second time for 10KB payload?     I have a user named 'user' which I use to login to the ftp of my website. However, this presents me with a problem. If I want to allow my user to access to ftp, I have to typ the following: chown -R user:ftpusers /var/www/ By doing this, my website is no longer available when surfing to it. To make it available again, I have to typ the following command: chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/ the user 'user' is in both the ftpusers and www-data group. How can I fix this so I wouldn't have to typ this anymore? I'm using apache2 and vsftpd on ubuntu

    I have an Ubuntu 12.04 NFS server and I have an iMac NFS client running OS X 10.6.8. I believe I have everything set up properly, yet I still get this error on the Mac: mount_nfs: can't access /nfs: Permission denied My exports on the Linux server uses the insecure option like this: /export/home/me/ 192.168.100.132(rw,subtree_check,insecure,nohide) Where 192.168.100.132 is the address of my Mac. I have even tried using -o resvport on the Mac (in addition to insecure on Linux) and I still get the same error as above. $ sudo mount -t nfs -o resvport 192.168.100.1:/home/me /Users/me/mount Here is the output of showmount: # showmount -e 192.168.100.1 Export list for 192.168.100.1: /export/home/me 192.168.100.132 .... I have reviewed this similar question: How to mount NFS export on Mac OS X?   • Manual Duplex for Mac (and/or Linux)

    Hi, my printers don't support automatic duplex printing. I'm looking for a solution for my Mac (BTW, also for Linux) that I've seen with most Windows printer drivers: Check "Manual duplex" in the printer screen Printer starts printing one side A dialog appears, asking me to flip the pages Printer prints the other side. One thing I can do, is "print odd pages", then reopen the dialog and "print even pages", but this is very inconvenient, especially when I only want to print a certain page range of the document (the Mac dialog forgets my previous page range every time). It gets even more inconvenient, when printing 2-up double sided, or when changing additional settings for this one printout. So is there maybe some tool, that can do this? Or maybe a "virtual printer driver" that can sit somewhere between the dialog and the actual printer driver, which manages these steps? (The Windows tool http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FinePrint can do something like that, but I don't need all of its features - and I need it on Mac/Linux) Thanks, Chris

  • Bluetooth not seeing mouse (Fedora)

    I have a Lenovo S10 'netbook' that I've installed Fedora 17 ("LXDE spin") on. So far pretty much everything works great, except, the on-board Bluetooth. lsusb shows the controller present (0a5c:2101 Broadcom Corp. Bluetooth Controller), hcitool dev shows hci0 present, but when I put my mouse ("Lenovo Bluetooth Laser Mouse," which works perfectly paired with a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, and Lenovo SL500 (with a USB dongle; running Windows 7)) into pairing mode and run hcitool scan (reports "Scanning ..." and, without further information or error message, returns to the shell prompt), blueman-manager, or bluetooth-wizard (from the gnome-bluetooth package) and try to detect the mouse, I get nothing... Frustrating! Thanks anyone who can point me in the right direction!

  • Unpredictable MBP wake from sleep in Windows 7 Boot Camp

    I have a Macbook Pro with Windows 7 installed in Boot Camp. I have serious problems with waking from sleep and not sure why. I have the default Balanced power plan selected. Many times when I close the laptop and leave it for more than just a few minutes, when I open it back up, it does not awake immediately. I often end up having to press the power button just to get it to wake up. Sometimes this causes it to wake up in Windows mode, sometimes it reboots completely, sometimes the battery has been drained and Windows has to restart (and gives me the Windows did not shut down properly message). Is this a common problem with Boot Camp? Can I fix it?

  • Top/left edges of screen, in Virtualbox, act like bottom/right edges

    I have Virtualbox running on Windows Vista, and Debian running inside Virtualbox. Everything's running great, for the most part. Everything looks correct. But when I'm in full-screen mode, the top edge seems to act (to the mouse) like it's the bottom edge, and the left edge seems to act like the right edge. For example, if I click in the middle of the desktop and drag left, as if to select some icons, when I hit the very leftmost pixel of the screen, the selection (but not the mouse pointer) jumps to the far right edge of the screen). For the left edge, it's not such a big deal, but not having the top edge is kind of annoying: it means I can't select things from the menu in my top panel by slamming the mouse against the top of the screen. Anyone seen this before? Is there some way to make this work? Thanks!

  • Google bots are severely affecting site performance

    I have an aggregate site on a linux server that pulls in feeds from a universe of about 2,000 blogs. It's in Wordpress 3.4.2 and I have a cron job that is staggered to run five times an hour on another server to pull in the stories and then publish them to the front page of this site. This is so I didn't put too much pressure all on one server. However, the Google bots, which visit a few times every hour bring the server to its knees in the morning and evenings when there is an increase in traffic on the site. The bots have something like 30,000 links to follow at this point. How do I throttle the bots to simply grab the new stories off the front page and stop there? EDIT- Details of my server configuration: The way we have this set up is the server that handles all the publishing is an unmanaged instance via AWS. It mounts the NFS server and connects to the RDS to update content, etc. You get to this publishing instance via a plugin that detects the wp-admin link and then redirects you into there. The front end app server also mounts the NFS and requests data from the RDS. It is the only one that has the WP Super Cache on it.... The OS is Ubuntu on the App server and the NFS runs CentOs. The front end is Nginx and the publishing server is Apache.

    I have successfully migrated a User and Computer account using ADMT. The user is able to login to the computer with the new account and is able to open outlook receive mail but is not able to send internal or external mail. The Exchange server is still in the Old domain. The bounce back message received was that the user doesn't have permissions to send to the recipient. When I migrated the user I did migrate the SID history so why is mail not being about to be sent? The body of the bounce back message is as follows: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: test Sent: 1/6/2010 4:17 PM The following recipient(s) could not be reached: User, user on 1/6/2010 4:17 PM You do not have permission to send to this recipient. In the process I removed the saved credentials, which are just a default local login to the VM. I need to know how to set this so that the VM auto logs in with the domain account credentials used to log into the physical computer. Google hasn't helped me find the answer.

    I suppose this could be asked on Server Fault as well, but it is specific to the client so I thought I'd start here. I have keys for a OpenVPN server already in place. I have used these keys to connect already, but using a Windows XP machine.   • Lubuntu Desktop messed up for logged in user, but not for guest

    I recently upgraded my laptop from Lubuntu 12.04 to 14.04.1 and the upgrade process seemed to go fine. However, when I went to login as my normal user, I encountered an issue. The background loaded up, but none of LXDE or LXPanel showed up, leaving me with an empty desktop and nothing else except two errors. I thought that this was weird, so I just figured something had been messed up and would be fixed by a reboot. But it wasn't. I then tried logging in as guest, and it's just fine. I checked the ~/.xsession-errors file (for my main user, not guest, did it via TTY1) and this is what I got: Script for ibus started at run_im. Script for auto started at run_im. Should that be root or something else, or should I try deleting that and ~/.profile. That means that some pages I want to be only accessible to certain people with the correct username and password. What's the best way to do this? Are there any available scripts out there? How much detail can acceptance criteria have? This is my example: User Story: As forum administrator I will connect persons in groups, so that people can get organized. Acceptance Criteria: The creation of a person group happens below a person group pool (person group pool is an object also visually available in the current software system) The creation happens with a context menu of the persongroup pool. Below the pool one can create new groups. A person group contains: person group-ID, description, remark May that be relevant an right acceptance criteria? Because I describe how you can create a new group by opening a context menu.

  • Using USB to Ethernet with Linux Ubuntu 12.04

    Being a newbie, Please excuse if the technical Jargon used is not an universally accepted one :) I have a particular device (say device A) whose USB2.0 driver is available from Linux community. Linux UBUNTU12.04 based PC is able to detect that device via the available driver. My requirement is to ensure that PC can exchange the command as well as data with the device A over TCP/IP packets (In other words, instead of just a USB Based driver, there should be a TCP/IP wrapper over the device USB driver and still does the same job as the USB driver was doing before) Bought an USB (Female) to RJ-45 adapter,connected Device A (male) USB to the USB Female end of the adapter and the Ethernet end connected to the router. PC also is connected to the same router so that both Device A and the PC have the IP address in the same subnet range. So the packets produced by the device A can be routed to the PC via some binding( not sure how I can achieve this, but conceptual idea) Here are the issues I can see as of now 1) USB to RJ-45 is just a hardware signal conversion and not a NIC in itself and hence no MAC/IP ADDRESS assigned. Can we bind a virtual NIC created in PC with this connector? 2) Any available USB TO IP command as well as data translation wrappers available? e.g. command for the device A on Ethernet converted to command for the device A on USB which is then acted upon the device as a command from the USB driver There is some missing link in my understanding and hence it would be of great help if you can bounce off some ideas on how I can take this forward so that Device A and PC exchange data over IP. How can I know if additional updates are made to the kernel?
