  • Any way to view dynamic java content ex-post? Browser session still open

    I feel like a grandpa from 1996 asking this, but is it at all possible to view a representation of a particular screen that was rendered as part of a java-based online checkout process I executed a couple days ago? I haven't cleared my browser cache or temp files or anything, and I don't think I've restarted the comp or even the browser since. I'm using mac OS X 10.6.8, and the page(s) were viewed with Chrome version 21.0.1180.89 in standard mode (not incognito). Specifically the page in question was part of Verizon Wireless's 'iconic' contract/checkout process, which leads the user through several pages to make selections on various criteria and seems to be based on java. (Obviously I'm a dummy regarding web stuff so the question is probably not very well defined, I'm happy to elaborate). ^This is the tl;dr question. If it belongs on another site please just let me know. Of course, clicking the link to the page in History right now requires a new sign-in and just returns the user to the initial step for doing the process again; it does not pull up a representation of the page as it was seen several days ago. This I understand. Instead using Chrome's integrated cache viewer by typing about:cache in the address bar, I can search and find links that appear to be relevant, when I click on the link I just get a http header and a bunch of hexadecimal gobbledygook. I've tried to use the URL at the top of the cache and URLs in the http headers, but they take me to current versions of those pages and not the versions I saw during the checkout process. I tried this with a few of them but stopped because I noticed that it updated the date in the http header to the present moment and I don't want to take chances overwriting the cache files since I don't know what I'm doing. (It's clear I can't achieve what I'm looking for by visiting current versions of these pages on the web…I should actually probably disable my network adapter while testing this out). The cache folder seems promising, but I don't know what to make of all that hexadecimal mess - if it contains what I'm looking for and if so, how to view it. Finally, the third thing I've come across is the Google Chrome cache folder on my local machine, at ~/Library/Caches/Google/Chrome/ then there are 'Default' and 'Media Cache' folders within. There are ~4,000 files in the former averaging ~100kb each, and 100 files in the latter averaging ~900kb each. The filenames all start "f_00xxxx" except for files titled data_0 through data_4 in each folder. I'm not sure how to observe the contents of these files and don't really want to start opening them up and potentially overwriting existing cached pages, as I notice there are already some holes in the arrangement of the files which I have never deleted manually. Hopefully this is an easy question to answer for someone who knows this stuff, admittedly web stuff is my weak point. As such, I've spent the past five hours searching around and trying to provide all the information I can. I'm probably asking for a miracle - like can those cached pages full of hexadecimal data be used to recreate the representation of the information that was on screen during the process? Or could screenshots of the previously viewed webpages be lurking in the /Caches folder? I have doubt because the content wasn't viewed at a permanent link, rather it seems like the on-screen information was served by Verizon's db, and probably securely so. I'm just not sure if Chrome saves the visual rendering of the page contents somewhere, even just temporarily. Alternatively I would be happy just to get the raw data that was on the page, even if not a visual representation…I just need to be able to demonstrate the phone line that was referenced on this page: https://preorder.verizonwireless.com/iconic/iconic/secured/screens/IconicFeatures.do .   • Unable to use "Manage Content and Structure" after removing Project server form the SharePoint farm.

    We're no longer using Office Project Server, and I've removed it from the farm in which it was installed. However, now that it's been removed, I am unable to access the "Manage Content and Structure" link on some of our SharePoint sites. I get an error indicating that SharePoint Failed to find the XML file at location '12\Template\Features\PWSCommitments\feature.xml' Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

  • What are some fast methods for navigating to frequently used folders in Windows 7?

    (This is a followup question from my previous question.) In windows XP I used to be able to quickly navigate to frequently used folders by making use of the 'Favorites' menu item and the hotkey behaviour. In certain conditions it could be set up so that getting to a particular folder was as easy as alt-a x (and without a file explorer window open it was as fast as win-e alt-a x). I am struggling to get anywhere near this speed in Windows 7 and would like to solicit advice from others regarding fast folder navigation to see if I am missing any methods. My current way to navigate quickly is basically move hand to mouse move cursor to navigation pane/pain. scroll all the way to the top (because normally I the panel is focused on whatever deep directory structure I am already in). sift through my 50+ favorites to get the one I want, or click a link to a folder that contains further links in some sort of 'pseudo-tree' functionality. select it. This is slower than my previous method by upwards of an order of magnitude. There are a couple of things I've contemplated: add expandable folders, not just direct links, to the favorites menu. add expandable folders, not just direct links, to the start menu. add links of my favorite folders to a submenu of the start menu so that they come up when I search them. They do but this still rather cumbersome started using 7stacks - url here (I cannot link the url directly due to lack of reputation but http://www.alastria.com/index.php?p=software-7s). This is about the closest I've gotten to some sort of compact, customizeable, easy to access, tree based navigation structure. How do you power users quickly navigate to your favorite folders? Are there keyboard shortcuts I am missing? Can someone recommend other apps or addon or extensions that can achieve this sort of functionality? The Current solution (thanks to the answers below) I am going to use is a combination of Autohotkey and 7stacks - autohotkey to launch 7stacks, 7stacks with the 'menu' stack type for fast, key-enabled navigation to folders organised in a tree structure. This solves about 90% of the issue, the only issues are (note that these are really minor, I am really splitting hairs more than anything here) Can't use this for existing folder navigation (ie already have a explorer window open, want to go to another directory) A bit more cumbersome to add/remove entries to compared to xp favorites. A little slower than xp favorites. Whatever. I'm happy. Thanks guys.     I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works.   • Intermittent internet access on a flat network - Router is connected

    I’m looking for some help with network settings. I’ve just started a new job (non-IT!) and we have problems with our office network. I’m the most IT literate in the organisation (15 permanent employees) and so have been dealing with IT issues. Our main bit of software is web-based so we need constant web access but it sometimes goes down for between 20 minutes and 3 hours despite everything seemingly working fine. It’s a flat network with wireless APs, BT Business Broadband 8Mbit connection and that’s about it. We have no servers and no standard settings and staff are encouraged to bring in their own laptops and connect! The network basically exists to provide internet access and that’s it. We also have students accessing the wireless (and I know there’s a whole list of access and content issues etc but right now we just need internet access stabilised). This is what we have: Building 1 Cisco SLM-224P 24-port PoE 10/100 switch with 2 gigabit ports 3 x ZyXEL NWA-3160 wireless APs Samsung OfficeServ 7100 phone server which borrows the building’s wiring Building 2 Netgear GS605-UK 5-port 10/100/1000 switch 1 x ZyXEL NWA-3160 wireless AP 1 x BT Business Hub – 2wire BT2700hgv – is the DHCP server We have 2 link cables between the buildings. One connects the two switches on a gigabit port. The second (oddly) connects the switch in building 2 to the OfficeServ server in building 1. When the internet goes down I can still access the router through a wireless connection. I can also ping websites and get a response. Firefox just says “Cannot connect” etc. The system then heals itself when it feels like it. (Sorry if this is asking too much but) These are my immediate questions… Why would browser-based internet go down? I don’t know enough about protocols etc but I can try to standardise settings. The WAPs have a DNS server setting and I don’t know whether it should be “None” or “From DHCP”. What should be the DHCP server? The router or the Cisco switch? Or something else?! Would there be any problem in connecting the second link from switch to switch? Is that good practice? Is it worth swapping the Netgear GS605 with either a Cisco SG200-08 or Netgear GS108T-200? Is it worth upgrading the router to, for instance, a Cisco RV042G Dual Gigabit router which would also act as a switch? Or is it better to have a separate router and switch in Building 2?

    I am really surprised at this behavior. In Virtualmin, I can see the password for any SSH user by clicking the "(Show..)" link next to the "Password ( ) Leave unchanged" option in a variety of locations. I have found that the passwords for all users including users with SSH access are stored in cleartext files in /etc/webmin/... This seems like an unnecessary risk! How can I prevent Virtualmin from storing passwords in this manner?

    I am maintaining a website with 3 different versions of the site, with 3 different languages, handles with a single system written in php, which takes in environment variables based on the domain name that is being accessed. These are the three sites: myshop.com : english international version myshop.eu : european version of site myshop.ru : russian version of the site when myshop.com is accessed from russia it is to be redirected to myshop.ru, and any country from europe accesses myshop.com, is redirected to myshop.eu, and international visitors stay at myshop.com, although they can go to the country specific site. All these redirections for the country is done using GeoIP apache2 mod in order to determine the country code, which is used in a RewriteCondition to state a RewriteRule, there are some exceptions of IPs that do not do the rewrite for, basically the IPs of the developer's PCs. The site has been doing just fine, until we decided to setup varnish to give the site a boost, it really did give it a great boost, but the country specific rewrites has become buggy. What started to happen is that a russian visitor can go to myshop.com and won't be redirected, until he clicks a random link (perhaps a link not cached by varnish yet) and the user is redirected to their specific country. For that i setup mod_rpaf, and for exceptions to the rewrite rule (for the developer's ip), i used this RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-FORWARDED-FOR} !^43\.43\.43\.43, and i restarted varnish and apache2, it worked for a while, then it messed up again. And whole day i have been doing changes however i have little no clue as to what's going on, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it half works, etc... As for geoip, i used a php to check the $_SERVER variable, and here is the general idea of the output [HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR] => 43.43.43.44 [HTTP_X_VARNISH] => 1705675599 [SERVER_ADDR] => 127.0.0.1 [SERVER_PORT] => 80 [REMOTE_ADDR] => 43.43.43.44 [GEOIP_ADDR] => 43.43.43.44 [GEOIP_CONTINENT_CODE] => EU [GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE] => FR [GEOIP_COUNTRY_NAME] => France Now, thanks to the "random" redirects, i hardly have a clue as to what is going on, so can you guys please give me some ideas as to what tools to use to debug this? I have tried to see the redirect logs, but they really dont show much, and varnishlog isn't helping much either - although i must admit i am no professional at varnish. I believe the problem is with varnish trying to cache the url, and thus apache redirects are not being done properly, however visits the site first has a redirect, and based on that other users are served the content, depending on from where the user was when the cache was last updated, is it correct? if so, how can i solve the problem? Also, i have the option of using geoip redirects on varnish3 instead of using apache2 to do the redirects, is that what the best practice is? Any suggestion as to debugging this or to fix this would be helpful! thnx!

  • Unable to use "Manage Content and Structure" after removing Project server form the SharePoint farm

    We're no longer using Office Project Server, and I've removed it from the farm in which it was installed. However, now that it's been removed, I am unable to access the "Manage Content and Structure" link on some of our SharePoint sites. I get an error indicating that SharePoint Failed to find the XML file at location '12\Template\Features\PWSCommitments\feature.xml' Anyone have an idea how to fix this?
