    Hi all, I am gathering performance data via WMI and would like to avoid having to use an account in the Administrators group for this purpose. The target machine is running Windows Server 2003 with the latest SP/updates. I've done what I believe to be the appropriate configuration to allow our user access to WMI (similar to what is described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa393266.aspx). Here are the specific steps that were followed: Open Administrative Tools - Computer Management: Under Computer Management (Local) Expand Services and Applications, right click WMI Control and select properties. In the Security tab, expand Root, highlight CIMV2, click Security (near bottom of window); add Performance Monitor Users and enable the options : Enable Account and Remote Enable. ­Open Administrative Tools - Component Services: Under Console Root go to Component Services- Computers - Right click My Computer and select properties, select the COM security tab, in “Access Permissions” click "Edit Default" select(or add then select) “Performance Monitor Users” group and allow local access and remote access and click ok. In “Launch and Activation Permissions” click “Edit Default” select(or add then select) “Performance Monitor Users” group and allow Local and Remote Launch and Activation Permissions. ­Open Administrative Tools - Component Services: Under Console Root go to Component Services- Computers - My Computer - DCOM Config - highlight “Windows Management and Instrumentation” right click and select properties, Select the Security tab, Under “Launch and Activation Permissions” select Customize, then click edit, add the “Performance Users Group” and allow local and remote Remote Launch and Remote Activation privileges. I am able to connect remotely via WMI Explorer but when I perform this query: Select CommandLine, ProcessId FROM Win32_Process I get a valid result but every row has an empty CommandLine. If I add the user to the Administrators group and re-run the query, the CommandLine column contains the expected data. It seems there is a permission I am missing somewhere but I am not having much luck tracking it down. Many thanks in advance.

    I have been trying for the past three days to install SQL Server 2008 with SharePoint integrated mode in VMware Player, however I keep getting the following error: Reporting Services in SharePoint integrated mode is not supported for WORKGROUP edition I setup ADDS and have my computer part of that domain (therefore not a WORKGROUP). I am currently at my wits end and any help would be appreciated.   • How to run multiple instances of Tor?

    I'm trying to set up a special proxy server (running Windows). It will have several instances of Privoxy and Tor running and my app will choose which Privoxy instance to send HTTP requests to depending on the load. Privoxy will then forward them to Tor. I'm using srvany.exe to create the services. At the moment I'm running 3 Privoxy and 3 Tor services (I copied the binaries to different folders). Each Privoxy service is listening to its own port (8118, 8119, 8120). I can see them listening in a port scanner. This is the application path (for srvany in registry) for the 1st service: C:\Anonymiser\Privoxy 01\privoxy.exe --service I've also configured the Tor services to listen to different ports (9050, 9052, 9054). This is the application path for the 1st service: C:\Anonymiser\Tor 01\tor.exe -f "C:\Anonymiser\Tor 01\torrc" The problem is, when I start the Tor services, only the first service I start is listening to its port. The others aren't listening. They listen if I run them separately. Any ideas what could be wrong? How can I make all 3 services listen on their assigned ports?   • Touch gestures in IE not working without explorer.exe being run once

    Edit: Rephrasing my question: Upon further troubleshooting, I can conclude that: Touch gestures (dragging, pinch to zoom, touch-and-hold right click) in Internet Explorer start to work when: The system has been running for ~2 minutes. This coincides with the delayed start of services. Explorer.exe is being run, then killed. I assume Explorer.exe starts some services? The services with delayed start are as follows: Security Center Software Protection Windows Defender, Search and Update Windows Font Cache Service Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v4.0.30319_X64 and X86 I see no connection between these services and touch gestures, but just in case, I manually tried starting these services, but without luck. What else happens delayed after system boot, which also happens when explorer is started? Old question: Details: Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7 Professional, running on a HP TouchSmart (touch screen PC). It is going to be a kiosk PC (running a custom GUI for displaying websites). Scenario 1: When running Internet Explorer as a normal program in Windows 7, touch functions work perfectly. I can scroll the website by dragging it with my finger, I can pinch zoom and I can touch-and-hold right click. I now change the default shell in Windows to Internet Explorer (ie. IE starts instead of explorer.exe). Internet Explorer of course starts up when logging in. However, touch functions are reduced to basic clicking (no dragging, no pinch zooming, no touch-and-hold right click). Then I manually start explorer.exe, and the touch functions work again! And here is the weird part: When I kill explorer.exe, the touch functions keeps working - even if I close IE and start a new instance. Scenario 2: The exact same, but instead of changing the default shell to Internet Explorer, I change it to my own program, which uses an embedded Internet Explorer ("WebBrowser"). Same thing happens. What I've tried: Autorun programs: When explorer.exe launches, it launches all the autorun programs. There are no relevant programs being run by explorer, but just in case, I have manually started all the autorun programs, so that it is identical (but without explorer.exe) to a normal login. It still does not work (until I launch explorer.exe). Specifically TabTip.exe, TabTip32.exe and wisptis.exe are all running. All services are also started. To sum it up Running explorer.exe once changes something in the touch capabilities of Internet Explorer. It doesn't matter if explorer.exe is running - as long as it has been run once. Does anyone know what causes this behavior? Or how I can circumvent it neatly?

    I have two Server 2008 servers (both running as VMs in VMware). One is a Full Installation, and the other is a Server Core installation. I just installed Print Services on both of them. In Print Management on the Full server, I added the Server Core print server (so now two print servers are listed in Print Management). However, the icon for my Server Core print server has a red, down-pointing arrow (indicating that it is down, I suppose). And when I right-click it and click Add Printer, I get a message saying that access is denied. Can someone tell me how to bring up or check on the status of the Server Core print server. Obviously, I'm somewhat of a noob with this stuff. Thanks in advance...

    I tested the speed of md5sum on a few Ubuntu 8.04 servers Pentium III 700 MHz: 52 MB/s Atom 1.6 GHz, 32-bit: 119 MB/s Core 2 (Yorkfield) 2.5GHz, 32-bit: 194 MB/s Core 2 (Yorkfield) 2.5GHz, 64-bit: 222 MB/s Then I downloaded a tool (by apt-get install) called md5deep and found that it's roughly 20% faster (as tested on the 32-bit Core 2 server). This makes me feel that the "vanilla" md5sum included in Ubuntu isn't the fastest one. Questions: Other than md5deep, are you aware of any MD5 calculators that are potentially faster than md5sum? (Answers for software from other OS are also welcomed.) If I want to compile md5sum myself, where can I download the source? What compiler options would you suggest for the Core 2 server? (note: gcc 4.2.4 in Ubuntu 8.04 does not seem to support -march=core2)

  • ISA Server 2006 SSL Certificate Dilemma

    I'm making so great headway in offering our services over https with help from a Go Daddy certificate, later to be upgraded to Thawte SSL123 certs. But, I've just run into one whopper of a problem. Here's my setup: I run an ISA 2006 firewall. Our web services are distributed over 2 servers. One is Windows 2000 (www.domain.com) and the other is Windows 2003 (services.domain.com). So, I'll need to purchase 2 certs for both www and services, import them into IIS6 on their respective machines, then export them with the primary key (making sure to Include all certificates in the certification path if possible... that had me stumped for a while), and then to finally import them into ISA's local computer Personal store. The problem I've just run into is that I have separate firewall rules for services.domain.com and www.domain.com... because requests need to be forwarded to different web servers. Each of these firewall rules use the same httplistener. I have just found out that you can only use 1 certificate per httplistener. To make matters worse you can only have a single httplistener per ip / port. Is this correct? I can only use a single certificate for a single ip address? This would seem to be a severe limitation. Am I wrong? If I'm not then I've got a whole lot more work ahead of me as I'll have to set up extra ip's, add them to the firewall's network interface, create new listeners using that ip, etc... Can someone please confirm that I'm doing this correctly / incorrectly? Once I got my head wrapped around it all it seemed easy... then this. Thanks in advance.

    I have used delicious.com (or back then, del.icio.us) to store my bookmarks for a long time now, and I love it. I was looking through some of my Google services, and realized they have a bookmarking service that integrates with your Google searches (I thought they had a bookmarking service before, but it went away? Maybe not). I like delicious just fine - I'm not interested in leaving. But I also like how my Google bookmarks are highlighted (and I'm guessing, brought to the top) in my search results so I can easily tell if I've bookmarked a site (kind of like the "promote up" feature). I can't even count the number of times I search for a site only to find I've been there months or years ago. If sites I've bookmarked in the past are highlighted in my search results, it makes it easier to pick which search result to go to. My question is around bookmarking tools: Is there a bookmarklet or Firefox addon that will let me save a bookmark to multiple services at the same time, in this case, Google and Delicious? Or maybe a service to sync my delicious bookmarks to Google bookmarks on a regular basis? I have used the Delicious addon since the beginning - it would just be nice to add a bookmark to multiple services with 1 addon. For that matter, it would be nice to add Evernote into the mix - click 1 button to save the page to Evernote, and bookmark the page in Google and delicious. EDIT on 7/30/2009 - Summary: A proposed solution is to use the Delicious addon and the GMarks addon to keep the 2 services in sync. I was not able to get the 2 addons to keep everything in sync, so it was also suggest to use the Google Toolbar with the Delicious addon to keep everything in sync. I personally have reservations with letting Google know about every single site I visit, I believe this solution will work, so I am accepting it as the answer. I still wish there was a solution that would let you post a bookmark/page to multiple services at the same time (delicious, google, evernote, digg, diigo, etc.). Thanks!

    I have client certificate configured and working in Apache. I want to pass the PEM-encoded X.509 certificates of the client to the backend server. I tried with the SSLOptions +ExportCertData. This does nothing at all, while the documentation states it should add SSL_SERVER_CERT, SSL_CLIENT_CERT and SSL_CLIENT_CERT_CHAINn (with n = 0,1,2,..) as headers. Any ideas why this option is not working? I then tried setting the headers myself using RequestHeader. This works fine for all variables except SSL_CLIENT_CERT_CHAIN. It shows null in the header. Any ideas why the certificate chain is not being filled? Everything works fine under apache2 which I checked first, it used to be on apache2 Problem is: gallery2 seems to generate url with + sign in it for file names/ images which had spaces in it so a file like "may report.jpg" becomes "may+report.jpg" The URL rewrite works but gallery2 throws an error for file not found. EDIT: I just verified that if I change the '+' sign to %20 then gallery2 works. but gallery2 is generating URL as +. I found a (maybe) related problem here for IIS7 and Gallery2 http://forums.asp.net/t/1431951.aspx EDIT2: Accessing the URL without rewrite and having the + sign works.     I'm comparing these two Apple laptops: MacBook Pro (13", 2011 model): 2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor with 4MB shared L3 cache 4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory on 2.4GHz configuration MacBook Air (13", 2011 model): 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with 3MB shared L3 cache 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 onboard memory Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory There's definitely a gap between them in terms of CPU speed and graphics, but what practical difference would this make on a day-to-day basis? On the one hand, I love the sleek, thin appearance of the Air. On the other hand, I don't want a machine that's going to be dog-slow when doing tasks such as running Virtual Machines, dual-booting to Windows and running multiple instances of Visual Studio, and maybe some light gaming. Is there going to be a major difference that makes the MacBook Pro a more attractive purchase?

    I've been trying to host ownCloud on my server but everytime I try to it tells me this : Your web server is not yet properly setup to allow files synchronization because the WebDAV interface seems to be broken. Please double check the installation guides. This is my setup : Windows Server 2012 R2 IIS 8.5 PHP 5.5.11 ownCloud 6.0.3 MySQL 5.6.17 I tried google the error but I can't seem to find anything usefull. Some say I should try if this works : https://cloud.mcsoftworks.net/remote.php/webdav/ and yes I can navigate to this folder and I can open files from there. The calendar works and I can also just upload files from here https://cloud.mcsoftworks.net/ the only thing that doesn't seem to work is the sync client.     I've just found that my WSS 3.0 server had two OWSTIMER.EXE services running: SharePoint Timer Service v11 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\BIN\OWSTIMER.EXE" Windows SharePoint Services Timer v12 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN\OWSTIMER.EXE" Since I'm running WSS v3, I was expecting to have only one SharePoint Timer instance, and that should be the one in th "12" folder. Should I just stop the other service and keep only the "Windows SharePoint Services Timer" (v12) running?

  • Unusual Apache->Tomcat caching issue.

    Right now, I have an Apache setup sitting in front of Tomcat to handle caching. This setup has been given to an external service to manage, and since the transition, I've noticed odd behavior. Specifically, when I request a swf file from the web server, I hit the Apache cache (good), but occasionally I'll receive a truncated file. Once I receive this truncated file, the cache will NOT refresh until I manually delete the cache and let the swf pull down from tomcat again. The external service claims that the configuration is fine, but I don't see any way this could be happening aside from improper configuration. Now, there are two apache and two tomcat servers under a load balancer, and occasionally one apache cache will break while another does not (leading to 50% of all requests getting bad, truncated data). Where should I start looking to debug this issue? What could POSSIBLY be causing this odd behavior? Before that because I have just one account Win7 just showed welcome screen for a minute and then it went to Win7 desktop automatically, but now I have to click on my account image to continue. Something that I've done : Start Run Msconfig Services Tab Checked Hide all Microsoft Services Disabled all services except Eset Services (Anti Virus) Unfortunately the problem haven't solved yet :( How should I fix it?
