• Why can't I view a specific websites?

  I am a netwrok administrator at a small company (22 PC) and i have a problem, and i don't know which could be the cause. I can't access a specific website from the LAN. I have a server which has 2 NICs(one to ISP and one to LAN). I have installed on the server (Bind DNS server and DHCP server) Debian 6 Server. I want to mention that "nslookup mcel.co.mz", and "dig my_site" is not working perfectly, I can't access the site from inside the LAN. I can't send emails to person that are located in that domain. When I dig mcel.co.mz @8.8.8.8 the domain is resolved. Why can't I view a specific websites? www.mcel.co.mz Why can't send email to person that are on some domains? @mcel.co.mz I don't have any rule configured in Debian Server which wouldn't let me acces the site. I am the only one responsable with the IT department. Lowly,

• USB Mouse stutters periodically

  I'm using an HP dv6000 (not sure of exact model) with a pretty basic Logitech wireless laptop mouse. From time to time, the USB mouse will be very stuttery and less responsive. Not all clicks register and the motion is not smooth. It seems like it's related to the notify-osd coming up when I get an IM or Email or whatever else, but it happens other times as well. It's not the whole computer becoming less responsive, because if I use the touch pad during one of these fits, it works perfectly smooth. I've replaced the batteries in the mouse and have tried different USB ports with better line of sight, etc. I can't figure out what's going on. Any thoughts?

• Can I set Ubuntu 12.10 to automatically reboot to Windows once only?

  Is there some way when I'm in Ubuntu 12.10 that I can set it to reboot automatically to Windows just once, so that when I'm in Windows I can reboot and it will automatically boot back into Ubuntu? I need this because often when I travel I access my home computer for email and other personal info that I don't want to travel with or leave to the tender mercies of the "cloud". On rare occasions, I need to temporarily boot into Windows 7 to do something Windows-specific, but then I want to be able to boot back into Ubuntu because that's where most of my computing takes place. • Is there a COMPLETE tutorial for upgrading for dummies?

  I have tried upgrading in the past with zero success doing a backup of stuff and futilely attempting to enter my stuff into the new version. My email accounts and folders, my bookmarks and web browser info and of course my photos. In the past I have received messages that the back up files were done using version XXX and cannot be read by the new system, as an example. I need a hand-holding tutorial to go from 11.04 to 12.10. • IP fail-over address. Do i need it?

  I received an email from my web hosting provider where i have 2 dedicated servers saying that from now on I have to pay for my IP fail-over addresses. The server we have hosts a tool used internally by our company. Traffic to it is quite low. No more than 3 people will use it at the same time. If something happens we can wait a day to have the tool up and running again. Is it worth having these fail-over addresses? thanks

  I'd like to try programming with punch cards once in my life. How can I do this? I'm in my 30s, and grew up entirely in the PC era, programming on computers with screens and keyboards. I want to experience the way my father and grandfather used to work. I imagine the hardware (and probably the cards themselves) are no longer manufactured. Are there any universities or museums with functioning punch card readers anymore? I'm in Boston, but I'm willing to travel to do this. I asked MetaFilter, and I got some mixed answers (along with a lot of "no, don't do this" nay-saying). I did get a pointer to the Retro-Computing Society Of Rhode Island, but I haven't received a response to my email to them yet.

  I just upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04.1 and run Gnome Shell. I am consistently getting a pop up window prompting me for my Gmail address book authentication. The window pops up the moment I type something into gnome shell after hitting the super key. I'm assuming that Ubuntu wants to search my address book for people to include in the search. I have opened up the settings and deleted my account from the online accounts section and rebooted, nothing seems to stop the popup. Where is it getting my email address from? Most importantly, how to I stop this super annoying popup from appearing?

• Help! Requesting a change of URL on Yahoo Directory!

  I submitted a couple websites on yahoo directory a month ago. For some reason, the url they listed was not the url I asked for, they listed the Japanese version instead of the submitted English version (this is a English directory so obviously it is a mistake). I requested changes and was accepted. But the reality is they promised a change but it was never really done. I contacted them again and again through the 'request a change in URL' form, but there is no answer. Is there any effective way that I can get to them? preferably a phone number or email? • Skype webcam won't work

  I am a very new Ubuntu 12.04 user and would like to install Skype. It used to be available from Ubuntu Software Centre but it is no longer available from there. So I downloaded it and installed same. The Ubuntu SC Installed section does not list it But Ubuntu Tweak does. Skype works for sound only but no webcam = Logitec QuickCam Express 046d:0928. Could you please help to make it work. According what I read it should work out of the box BUT it does not. Your advise/help by email to [email protected] would be most appreciated.   The three-step JCP evolution consists of the following JSRs: • JSR 348, JCP transparency • JSR 355, Merging the two existing Executive Committees • JSR 358, complex issues moved postponed from JSR 348 The JSR 348 is already completed and JSR 355 is scheduled to be complete later this year. JSR 358 was recently filed and plans to revise several items such as modify the JSPA, Process Document, and a large number of complex issues. Because of the nature and scope of work, the Expert Group consists of representatives from all companies in the Executive Committee. Following the process set by JSR 348, all the work is done in open at jsr358.java.net. All the email discussions are here and JIRA here. Read Patrick Curran's blog for more details as well.   I am trying to set up UbuntuOne on a new computer and after I enter the email and password, it asks for the keyring 'default'. I don't know what it is and I never set it. Makes it difficult to enter so it seems to be a counterproductive security default. I understand that if autologin is set the keyring is called. I tried setting the main user to need a password but if I reboot it doesn't ask for the password so it sort of autoboots still. So How do I set the keyring default password? My few friends have landed the jobs this way. • Servlet 3.1 Early Draft Now Available

  JSR 340 has released an Early Draft of the Servlet 3.1 specification. Other than the usual clarifications and javadoc updates, ProtocolHandler and WebConnection are new classes that encapsulates the protocol upgrade processing. This will typically be used for upgrading an HTTP connection to a WebSocket. Section 2.3.3.5 in the specification provide more details on it. Section 3.7 explain non-blocking request processing by the Web container. ReadListener and WriteListener are new interfaces that represents a call-back mechanism to read and write data without blocking. As with other Java EE 7 specifications, progress can be tracked at servlet-spec.java.net. The Expert Group discussions are archived and you can participate by sending an email to [email protected].

• Password Authentication Problems

  I am new to Ubuntu, am extremely delighted with the performance and speed, as compared to Windows 7-However, I messed up, I think...when I booted my USB disc, I set a password, as directed, and when Ubuntu booted up I tried to reset my password via User Accounts to "None". Now, the Password Authentication window prevents me from downloading software, (Audacity and my Ubuntu updates. Also, I've tried to boot into GRUB and the Recovery Console, as directed; however, the PC bypasses GRUB and boots into Ubuntu instead. Also, when attempting to use the terminal as directed to change the password, I'm given a password prompt there also. If the problem is on my end, could you email/reset my password? My PC is an emachines EL1358G. I am otherwise happy with Ubuntu!

  I need to create a page that requires users to log in with a username / email and password to access it, and then depending on who the user is, they get links to one more files they can download. No need for a 'register' page - users will be added on the back-end. Can anyone recommend the best approach for this? Are there good plugins to handle this kind of thing?
