• Can UMDF drivers be packaged/shipped via WiX?

  Howdy Internets: I put together a WiX 3.0 package, utilizing the DIFx extensions, with the intentions to install a Windows 7 Sensor (UMDF driver). During installation, DIFXAPP logged "No matching devices found in INF" and simply threw the driver into storage. I read I'm to populate my INF with an appropriate DriverPackageType, but according to MSDN's enumerated list, nothing fits. Is UMDF driver installation a supported scenario? If not, what's the best practice for using WiX to install such drivers? Disassembling the DIfx extension shows intent to support Co-installer packages, I have yet to try 3.5 beta.

• Oracle EXECUTE IMMEDIATE changes explain plan of query.

  I have a stored procedure that I am calling using EXECUTE IMMEDIATE. The issue that I am facing is that the explain plan is different when I call the procedure directly vs when I use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE to call the procedure. This is causing the execution time to increase 5x. The main difference between the plans is that when I use execute immediate the optimizer isn't unnesting the subquery (I'm using a NOT EXISTS condition).   Hello, I have a sub class that calls a method from a super class. and the method in the super class use a method that is defined in the super class as asbstract(not really abstract) but implemented in the sub class. for example: package BaseClass; sub new { } sub method1 { return someAbstractMethod(); } sub someAbtsractMethod { die "oops, this is an abstract method that should be implemented in a subclass" ; } 1; package SubClass; sub new { } sub someAbtsractMethod { print "now we implement the asbtract method"; } 1; now when I do: $sub = new SubClass(); $sub-method1(); It calls the abstract message and i get the specified error message. if I took off the abstractmethod from the super class and just leave the implementation in the subclass, It does not recognize the method and I get subroutine abstractmethod not found error.

  Hi, I've got a problem with type coercion in a Java/Hibernate/BlazeDS/Flex-Setup. First of all, my classes look like this: --- JAVA --- Interface I (Abstract) Class A implements I Class B extends A --- ActionScript --- Interface I Class A implements I Class B extends A I got RemoteClass-Meta-Tags in all ActionScript-Classes/Interfaces I, A and B. Package structure and Class/Interface names are exactly the same. Now here's the problem: My Java Service successfully retrieves objects of class B from my database via Hibernate. I got another class C which has a member property of interface type I, so it should be possible to assign an object of type B. But for some reason i get the following error message: TypeError: Error #1034: cannot convert Object@28b44a89 to package.name.I I checked the Java object type in the service and it is of type B and seems to be totally fine. Why can't the object of type B be assigned to a member variable of type I? This is driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.

I want to have subscription packages such as: Premium: 5 users, 20 widgets, 20 MB storage Basic: 2 users, 10 widgets, 50 MB storage I want to allow companies to upgrade and downgrade packages at any time. The problem I am having is what if the company is on the premium package and has 5 users, 20 widgets, and wants to downgrade to the "basic" package. How do I handle that? Do I flag an error and say "You cannot downgrade" or do I take them to a page to remove the "extra" users and widgets? Any advice or examples of how other companies do it would be great!!

There are so many different mehods, extending the Event class, but also Extending the EventDispatcher class, very confusing! • Programming on Leopard for iPhone OS 3.1.3

  Hey, I got Leopard with XCode 3.1 and SDK 3.0, when opening the organizer and trying to debug on my ipod I received "The version of iPhone OS on "..." does not match any of the versions of iPhone OS supported for development with this copy of xCode...". It tells me with my xCode I can only develop for iPhone OS 3.0 or less, so I downloaded the new xCode + SDK installation bundle, knowing the SDK can't be installed on Leopard. In the installation it tells me "If you don't want to install the SDK, press disagree", and so I did, but in the next screen he forces me to choose a drive for the SDK, and then says "you can't install the SDK on leopard system", and I can't pass this screen. My question is: is it even possible to program on Leopard for iPhone OS 3.1.3? I really want to debug my apps on my iPod (framework 3.1.3, 3G) Thanks ahead!! By the way: I can't so simply upgrade to snow leopard because it's a hackintosh, so I prefer a different way..

  I have a service that regularly queries a web server for new messages. The service stores the new messages in an arrayList. These messages are implemented using a custom class, storing all kinds of metadata (strings and longs). An activity then connects to this service to retrieve those messages and display them to the user. I have an .aidl file that describes the interface that the service exposes. package com.example.package; interface MyInterface { List<Message> getMessages(); } The Message class extends the Parcelable class which should allow for the IPC transfer. The problem is this: Eclipse gives me an error saying that the type of List<Message> is unknown. Any imports are marked as invalid. Ideas? Thanks

  I have some data files that should be distributed with my program. Using dist_pkgdata_DATA in Makefile.am, I get these files installed to /usr/local/data/share/package-name. The problem is that data is read-only, and my program needs to modify it. Playing with dist_sharedstate_DATA, dist_localstate_DATA, dist-data_DATA varibles, I got different installation directories, like /usr/local/com, usr/local/var, but data is always read-only. How can I distribute modifiable data files with my package? I need some common directory for all users, or maybe local data in a user directory.

  We are able to run instrumentation tests of Android from the command line on Windows by launching: adb shell am instrument -w <package.test>/android.test.InstrumentationTestRunner This gives us good results. Using the same architecture, we are unable to run the same in Kubuntu. We have the same setup in Kubuntu. Can someone let us know, if there are packages with same name.. Then what package will the adb shell point? How will the emulator connect with adb shell from cmd line? DO we need to do any changes to do so in Kubuntu ?

• SSIS Script Component Testing Strategy

  This question is in respect to the script component specifically. I am aware of ssisUnit etc… With simple SSIS Scripts Components, it’s sufficient to let basic testing flesh out issues, however I am working with a script that has grown in complexity over time. To better test the functionality I am considering abstracting the script logic into a DLL that gets deployed with the package, and then use the custom component in the script. The advantage is that the function will be more testable etc but it’s one more deployment artefact that needs to be managed. My question is, does anyone know of a better way to test such an SSIS script in a more isolated manner than to run the whole package and examine the output?

How would I go about compiling java files in these directories in to a runnable jar? I need to package required libraries into the generated JAR (jdbc). I've always done these things in Eclipse but now I need to supply a couple of people with a way to compile the repository without the use of eclipse and I was thinking of making a makefile or a script that invokes the necessary javac pattern.   The question basically says it all. I'm trying setup up JavaDB on my virtualbox running Ubuntu 9.10. I have the package downloaded and installed through the package manager, which I believe is the right to go about it. I have also installed the Eclipse's Data Platform Tools. I've been following this tutorial here: http://www.vogella.de/articles/EclipseDataToolsPlatform/article.html. I'm stuck at the driver definition step. When I select the driver template from the Name/Type tab and the jar file in the Jar List tab, the OK button is never enabled. At the top of the New Driver Definition dialog it says 'Unable to locate Jar/zip in the file system as specified by the driver definition: derby.jar.' I assume this is the problem. Any help or links to a better tutorial would be much appreciated.

• SSIS - Parallel Execution of Tasks - How efficient is it?

  I am building an SSIS package that will contain dozens of Sequence tasks. Each Sequence task will contain three tasks. One to truncate a destination table and remove indexes on the table, another to import data from a source table, and a third to add back indexes to the destination table. My question is this. I currently have nine of these Sequences tasks built, and none are dependent on any of the others. When I execute the package, SSIS seems to do a pretty good job of determining which tasks in which Sequence to execute, which, by the way, appears to be quite random. As I continue adding more Sequences, should I attempt to be smarter about how SSIS should execute these Sequences, or is SSIS smart enough to do it itself? Thanks.

• How can I build against Microsoft.Web.Administration (IIS 7.x) on a Windows 2003 build machine?

  Hi, I am writing a C# config app for (amongst other things) setting up websites. It's only required to support IIS 7.x (Windows 2008 / 2008 R2), and requiring the compatibility pack is a no-no, so I figured I'd just use the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace. However, the only place I can find the assembly that contains this namespace (Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll) is from the IIS 7.x installation folder, and our main build machines are Windows 2003 and so cannot install IIS 7.x. One option is to mandate a 2008 build machine but we currently only have one so that's not ideal. We've already ruled out appcmd.exe. The other option is to make a package consisting of the dlls necessary to build against Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll. Has anyone tried that? Is there such a package already in existence, hidden somewhere on the MS download site? Thanks in advance.
