  I sent an email, but immediately got a reply saying: Final-Recipient: rfc822;[email protected] Action: failed Status: 5.0.0 (permanent failure) Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 5.1.2 - Bad destination host 'DNS Hard Error looking up smtpint.xxx.edu (MX): NXDomain' (delivery attempts: 0) I was wondering what this error report means, where in the delivery route the error happened, who should be contacted to solve this issue and how to solve it? Thanks and regards! I also appreciate if someone can explain a bit more about the mechanism behind the email delivery.

• Ubuntu Server 10.04 Heavy Network Traffic causes disconnect

  I'm currently running a headless Ubuntu 10.04 server. Installed is the LAMP stack, Joomla, Virtualbox, phpvirtualbox, webmin and proFTP.. It resolves the IP address so I can access it remotely (either the apache2 webserver or the FTP) using DDClient. Any packages installed have been installed using apt-get. Webmin, although discouraged in Ubuntu Server, is used mostly to administer the webserver aspect. This issue also appeared when I was using Ubuntu Server 10.10. After periods of heavy network traffic, whether local or remote, the connect drops. I'm talking specifically about the transfer of files via FTP, SCP or Samba (the latter of which I seldom use). There is no response to ping or ssh. I can't FTP to the server nor can I load the website. There are times when the server has been on for a few days and everything runs fine because I haven't accessed it much, if at all (thus not much network traffic). I've gone through a few hardware changes although I don't believe this has cause the issue: this has been happening long before I made any changes. At first I thought it was my ISP-provided router blocking traffic because of some kind of misconfiguration (perhaps assuming it was some kind of DoS attack). I've changed routers and still found no success. I've checked syslog, dmesg and kern.log for warnings but have uncovered none. I've ran memtest via the GRUB2 menu at boot and once it turned up 4 errors. I ran again with individual sticks of RAM in various slots and everything turned up fine. I've looked through the BIOS settings and everything looks fine. I've tried unplugging unnecessary pieces of hardware (other internal hard drives, CD drives, floppy, PCI cards, etc). Any help or tips on how I can even begin to troubleshoot this would be very much appreciated. Please note that i've only started playing with servers as a hobby so my knowledge wouldn't be the most refined. I'm comfortable with command line and have the initiative to know how to look up something I can't do. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any issues like this. Additionally: If a solution can't be found some assistance to write a script that will cause the server to reboot automatically if, after x minutes, it gets no response to pinging somewhere like google. Admittedly that's not the cleanest solution should my internet end up going down but I can't think of what else to do.

• Streaming Netflix through Wifi kills all other devices

  I have a "Belkin N150" Router. My current setup is wired connection to my personal tv and xbox with wireless going to the Wii and Bedroom laptop. Anytime I try streaming Netflix Instant Queue on the Wii, every other device has problems. The Wii works fine but everything else's connection is destroyed. Streaming through the Xbox doesn't create any issues for other devices. What kind of issue is occurring and how can I fix it?

Here is my setup: X0 - STAFF network | X2 - AGENT network | X4 - Wireless AP (for multiple SSID) Okay, basically I'm going to set up the wireless AP to be broadcasting 2 SSID, STAFF-WIFI and AGENT WIFI. When connected to STAFF-WIFI, the users will be connected to the STAFF network, while connected to the AGENT WIFI, the users will be connected to the AGENT network. • Error in VBScript http request

  I asked this question here, but it turns out the issue is in our server configuration. The .vbs script has been reduced to the following: Dim http Set http = CreateObject("MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP") http.Open "GET" , "http://google.com", False http.Send This triggers the same error message every time: msxml3.dll: A security problem occurred. The permissions on the .dll are set correctly, and nothing else should be preventing access to that file, so what could be causing the problem?

• vsftp on CentOS - unable to get a folder list of /var directory

  Hi, I'm just getting started with CentOS and running into a strange issue with vsftp. When I FTP in, then change directory to /var I don't get a folder list. Is there something about CentOS or vsftp in particular that I may be missing that causes this behavior? The permissions on the folder are like others that I am able to see while connected via FTP. • DIG command is hanging and not timing out as expected

  I ran into the following issue by accident when playing around with the DIG command and testing some domain names. Why does DIG hang and not timeout after 10 seconds when executing the following: dig +tries=1 +tries=1 +retry=1 +time=5 +trace google.us.com DIG hangs for about 30 seconds instead of timing out and then dies with the following error message: dig: couldn't get address for 'ns.reserved-domain.uk.com': no more Do I need to set another flag/option for DIG to have it timeout instead of hanging, or is this a bug? • DHCP and DNS on none AD 2003 Server PTR is updating but no A records

  I have a strange issue, I have a DHCP and DNS server running in a non AD environment, on Windows 2003 server. I setup DHCP to update DNS A and PTR records even if the client doesnt request it, but I only see PTR records updated, the A records are not created at all. The domain is "local" forward zone is called "local" and in the option 15 set to "local" (actual name) the PTR records are created with the right name (example: win64_ent.local), What am I missing here ?

  Hi all, I have been trying to upgrade our TFS 2005 to TFS 2010 but with no luck so far. I went through the TFS Installation guide and many upgrade guides but with no luck in overcoming the issue I am facing which seems to be unique and different to other described issues. In our company, we have a domain forest with several domains. Lets say domain A, B, and C. TFS is in domain A and has users from all these three domains. All domains have trust reltionships between them. However, domain C was deleted several months ago. With a bit of googling, I figured out that TFSConfig Identities command can be used to remap users from one domain to the other. I went ahead and created local users that matches the users we have from domain C and ran the TFSConfig Identities /Change command and it executed successfully. However, I still get the same error. I am stuck and can't figure out how to move forward :( I need your expertise, has anyone faced this issue before? Do I need to change these identities on TFS 2005 before I commence the upgrade? I forgot to mention, I am following the upgrade with a move approach. I created a virtual machine for testing the upgrade. Installed SQL server 2008, restored the TFS databases and installed TFS 2010 and ran the upgrade wizard. Regards, Nadeem

• Backup Exec 2010 Service hangs on "starting"

The service just hangs on "starting" during the boot up phase. this make the server really slow to boot and the backup exec service does not start at all. i ran a hotfix that was supposed to fix it but it has not.   the issue is this Undo the CLEAN command on the portable hdd : DISKPART unfortunately at step no 10, i dont see the option to save the partition table.but there are options for: deeper search quit write a partition. wat should i do?plz help(i run testdrive 6.14) here is how this happened... I ran cmd then diskpart then selected the volume used 'CLEAN' command to clear the configuration (accidentally) does reinstalling my windows solve this ? will my hard drive work on other computers?

• Can't ping from Win7 running on an MacBook Pro and Can't ping MacBook Pro from any other PC

• web services access not being reached thru the web browser

  I am trying to reference my .asmx webservices in .NET but my server is not exposed to the internet. When I put on the following address I get the message mentioned below. What's the reason for not being able to see the directory? Am I missing something in my IIS configuraction? Am I missing anything in my permissions? Just as reference I have other folders with webservices and I have the same issue. When I login to the server I am doing it with my windows user and password (I am using windows authentication). It's necessary to mention that when I put the URL I am getting a popup screen to put in my userid and password but it seems that's not able to validate since keeps asking me a couple of times. • iPhoto - add time to photo time

  I have taken some photos from a recent vacation, but forgot to set the "away" time, so the time is slightly off. Thats not much of an issue since its only an hour from my home time, but my partner also took photos, but she was smart enough to adjust the time, so when merged together the overlap is annoying. Is there an easy way (preferably in iPhoto) to adjust the time that the photos were taken?

  Since I found out about Outlook's "Cached Exchange Mode" I've been using it, and I also set it up on every PC I come across. I think it's a great feature that improves the efficiency of of every Outlook user, and I don't understand why it's not ON by default. My question is - are there any disadvantages to using Cached Exchange Mode? (Besides the obvious fact that it consumes a bit more space, which I don't see as a big issue nowadays)

• Microphones not working on Apple macbook Air 1,1 (Early 2008) under Linux

  I'm running Linux on an mba. I can't make the microphones (neither external nor internal) work. I test using alsamixer and arecord -d 5 test-mic.waw together with aplay test-mic.waw It seems there is a problem with kernel trying to decipher Apple (intentionally) corrupted 'bios', in particular the mic pins are wrongly assigned. As far as we are concerned here, is there any difference between using EFI and BIOS-compatibility mode? (see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MacBook where they claim to have everything working out of the box on mba1,1) A nice proposal would be to compile the latest Linux kernel and run hda-jack-retask to find the right configuration (in the case of Realtek codec, the missing things I'm supposed to check are either some vendor-specific COEF verbs, EAPD or GPIO setup.), and then come up with a kernel patch to address the issue. Since I'm not that familiar with this last part of the story, can anyone help me through this process? • Identifying cause of Software opening hundreds of thousands of handles

  I have a user running the latest public revision of IBM Notes (8.5.4) on a Windows 7 Pro OA installation. Under his profile and only his, when the software is run, the software opens hundreds of thousands of handles, regarding token queries. This involves only this specific user, on his computer, using only said software. I have narrowed down the issue to being related to his profile but am unsure of what to look at next. Any advice would be appreciated.

• Trying to upgrade SQL Server 2008 to R2 but SQL is sleeping or dead?

  I've used the option to upgrade SQL Server 2008 to R2 but I noticed it gets to about 20-30% and it just sits on this screen: I've left it alone for over 2 hours, the PC is definately not frozen cause I can click the help or move the window around but it says "Install_sql_common_core_loc_Cpu64_1033_action: Install Files. Copying new files" for the past 2 hours. I have tried to do the install from a CD as well as a network drive, both with the same issue. Is there anything I can check or do ?
