  • How to limit ram usage of a certain binary?

    Hello, i have a binary, which indexes some stuff, it eats all my ram and my swap. Then the server hangs. I would like to limit its ram usage. I've looking at cpulimit and /etc/security/limits.conf but both of them focus on cpu limits and user/processes . Have somebody limited the usage of a certain binary? How can I approach this issue?   • Determining timeout reason

    What is the best way to determine what causes a server timeout on a Plesk passworded directory in IIS6? Even if the default page is static text I can get a timeout. This has worked fine for two years and has only seemed to change after adding a new permitted user. Occasionally there is success but usually loading is very slow. Where would I look for a problem, as it doesn't seem to be page content causing the issue?

  • Cisco ASA 5505 VPN setup

    Hello, I'm trying to setup a site to site VPN, with a Cisco ASA 5505 at one end. The documentation tells me to use the Ipsec VPN wizard but under the wizards drop down menu there's nothing VPN related there. I have a 'base' license, is that the issue? or am I being stupid? The versions I have are: Cisco Asa 5505 with ASA 8.2(1) and ASDM 6.2(1), the firewall was already setup when I got it (I'm leasing a dedicated server). Thanks for your help

  • nginx: how do I track down a random 500 from nginx (not my application). Potentially has something to do with load?

    We recently had some 500's from nginx itself that somehow were not logged (we have screenshots, but nothing in the logs). That is weird in itself, because usually errors show up there. Regardless, I am wondering if there is something like a connection pool size that if maxed out would result in a 500? We have correlated it potentially to a recent spike in traffic, but it is not conclusive. Anyone have any ideas of how to begin to approach such an issue?

  • Our embedded linux system won't recognize a USB Device if it is plugged in before powerup. Suggestions?

    We are developing on a small embedded device. This device us a gumstix overo board running OpenEmbedded linux. We have our development almost completely done, and have run into the strangest of bugs that we can't figure out. We have a USB Device (Spectrophotometer) that has a USB2.0 Connection and an external power supply for the light source. Typical behavior is that you plug in the power supply, then the USB connection to a host. When the usb connection is detected by the device, the device boots up and enables the light source and fan. The device is then able to be used by the host system. The problem is that if the device is plugged into the Gumstix before we turn on the Gumstix, the USB Device apparently is not probed by the system (and hence does not turn on). Under a normal situation, when the connection is initialized by plugging in the usb cable, the spectro turns itself on and becomes available to the system (this can be seen via "lsusb" typically). Neither of these things are happening. There is no device detected via "lsusb" and no dmesg errors of any kind that we can see. It is as if the device is not plugged in. The device does show up and work fine if we unplug the USB cable and plug it back in once the system is booted up. It turns on and shows up on the usb bus, and we can access it with our driver. On any other desktop or laptop, it does not matter if the host system is on or off when we plug in the spectrometer. This behavior is what I would consider to be "normal" - that the usb system is probed and initialized at boot time, and the usb devices come online. In other words, our system is fully functional as long as we plug in the usb device after the system is booted up. Unfortunately this isn't possible in our final product - everything comes on at once. Additional Info: 1) We have tried a flash drive attached to the system when the system is turned off. Booting up the system brings the flash drive online, as expected 2) There are no messages regarding the spectro or usb device (using dmesg). "lsusb" only lists the USB hubs / controllers. It is literally as if the device is not present and not plugged in. 3) We have tried a brand new image from gumstix and an older image from last year. Both images have this problem. This problem exists on all 3 gumstix devices we use. Does anyone have any suggestions? From what I can tell it isn't really possible to do a complete "reboot" of the usb system that is a complete emulation of "unplugging" and "replugging" a usb device. I feel like what is happening is that there is no initial probe on the usb bus that would trigger the usb handshaking, but this is somehow specific to the spectro. This seems to be a kernel issue or at least an issue in how the kernel is initializing the usb subsystem. I'm not really sure though. I have tried the gumstix mailing list, but there doesn't seem to be anyone who has seen this issue before. Any advice or suggestions on where to start looking would be fantastic. Thank you!   • Using USB HDD with Arcserve / Brightstor

    I am having an issue configuring a standard USB HDD for use with CA Arcserve Brightstor 11.5 SP2 : Under the device list it shows a USB device category but none of my USB drives are listed underneath. I have attempted to "scan devices" but it makes no difference. I have also tried restarting the tape engine to no avail! Is anyone successfully using USB drives with Brightstor?

  • Ho to log on MySQL on CentOS 6.3 using root account from the domain and not localhost?

    I don't know if I'll make the issue clear, but I've installed MySQL on CentOS 6.3 using root account on a specific domain (f.ex. root@mydomain), but when i try to log on to it I'm being asked for password to root@localhost account, which I do not have access to. How can I log on to MySQL installed on 'mydomain' and not to 'localhost'? I've tried editing my.cnf using bind-address='domain_ip', but it didn't help, it still wanted localhost password.

  • eSATA hard drive falls asleep, takes ages to wake up.

    I'm using an external hard drive, a Western Digital MyBook 1TB of some sort with eSATA on an eSATA II ExpressCard adapter from Belkin on Windows Vista 32-bit. The issue I'm having is that after a while power management kicks in and puts the hard drive to sleep. When I resume my work and browse the drive, for example, the Explorer hangs and while I can still use my other apps, it takes a couple minutes for it to realize it should wake up the drive and recommence work. What's going on?

    I have all my databases in full recovery and have the log backups happening every 15 minutes so my log files are usually pretty small. question is if there is a nightly operation that causes lots of transactions to happen and causes my log files to grow, should i shrink them back down afterward? Does having a gigantic log file negatively affect the database performance? Disk space isn't an issue at this time.

    I just setup a subdomain with the following RewriteCond: RewriteCond $1 !^search.php$ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^/?([^/]+)$ search.php?q=$1 [L,NS] I'm using the same rewrite condition on my main domain and it works perfectly. However, when I set it up on the subdomain, it simply outputs "index.php" when going to http://sub.domain.com Every page on the subdomain outputs the page name in the body instead of processing the code, except for the search page, which appears to be working correctly. What can I do to correct this issue?

My problem is when I try to access localhost or localhost/index.php I get a 403 error. I can access http://localhost/myphpadmin so I think this is a permissions issue but I have full access (or so I think) over the folder. Thanks

  • Java update "Failed to download required installation files."

    On my Windows 7 machine the Java update consistently fails with this error message. This seems to a common problem, does anyone have an insight into what's going wrong, and is there a fix for it other than either disabling the update check (seems a bad idea from a security point of view) or waiting for the nag message and then manually installing the new version (annoying and stupid from a usability point of view). Note that I did install the previous version manually (updating from 6.23 to 6.30 I think?), thinking that might resolve the issue, but no luck.

    I have a .htaccess file which contains: <FilesMatch "^api$"> ForceType application/x-httpd-php SetHandler application/x-httpd-php </FilesMatch> This works on my local server but not on my actual host. When I try to access http://www.domain.com/api/path/info it just returns 404 Not Found, the output on my local server is $_SERVER['PATH_INFO'] and looks like it should. How do I resolve this issue at my host?

    Just now my T60 screen got "black" (so no display). On my second monitor: no problems so the vga output works. symptom: Screen blanks / no display but works on second monitor steps to reproduce: - boot - wait (it does not matter what you do you do not have to login or anything) - (now the monitor of the laptop slowly begins to make a ssssssssHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHWOEOEssssssss noice of about 10 seconds) - right after the sounds ends the monitor gets black times seem to be the same each time. software: installed no new software before/after, running zone alarm and antivirus. other: it does not feel hot in any place, there dont seem to be running processes with strange behaviour. warranty: out of warranty what was i doing: typing text on a website and doing some php coding in a text editor.   • Node app crashes after a while on micro EC2 instance even with supervisor

    I'm using supervisor to start my node.js application on a micro EC2 instance. However, the app only stays running for some time until it eventually shuts down. Not exactly sure how long the app stays running but I'm guessing for about a few hours or so. Sometimes less. My question is where on the remote server should I be looking in order to debug this kind of issue? I'm running an Amazon Linux AMI.
