  • Connect rails application to SQL Server 2005 from Windows

    Hi guys. I (sadly) have to deploy a rails application on Windows XP which has to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Surfing in the web there are a lot of hits for connect from Linux to SQL Server, but cannot find out how to do it from Windows. Basically I followed these steps: Install dbi gem Install activerecord-sql-server-adapter gem My database.yml now looks like this: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: test_dj host: HOSTNAME\SQLEXPRESS database: test_dj username: guest password: guest But I'm unable to connect it. When I run rake db:migrate I get IM002 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified I'm not a Windows user, so cannot understand really well the meaning of dsn element or so. Does someone have an idea how to solve this?   • Help make sense of a KillDisk error/log

    I have a hard drive that I've been trying to reformat. I tried reformatting it in the windows XP and 7 installers, and in an Ubuntu live cd with gparted. I tried using dd to 'zero' the drive as well with no success. Finally I ran across KillDisk after a search.   • iPhone Simulator 3.x not supported after upgrading to XCode 3.2.3 Beta4 with OS 4.0

    I've been having some problems, & since you guys are the smartest devs I thought I'd just ask you. When I last installed Xcode 3.2.3 Beta 2 (OS 4.0 support), it had all the iPhone Device & Simulator 3.x. Now, updated to Xcode 3.2.3 Beta 4 (OS 4.0 support), it no longer lists 3.x SDKs for either simulator or device in XCode. I'm aware that 3.2.3 changes the BASE SDK to 4.0, but how come none of the 3.x devices are available either? When I go to: /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs The only two files available are: iPhoneSimulator3.2.sdk iPhoneSimulator4.0.sdk However, when I go to: /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport 3.0 3.0.1 3.1 3.1.1 3.1.2 3.1.3 3.2 4.0 (8A274b)

  • Winforms - a strange problem a with simple binding

    Hi Guys, It's hard for me to clearly describe my problem but I'll try. I have a UserControl1 which contains UserControl2 which contains several WinForms controls (most of them DevExpress). I do simple binding to these controls to my datatable fields. So far everything works fine. When I move the focus to a record in the table (by navigating in a grid rows for example) the binding works great, the concurrenmcy manager moves the cursor and everything reflects right in the bounded controls. The problem starts when I add new user UserControl3 above UserControl2 and make UserControl2.Visible = false. Now UserControl3 is shown and UserControl2 exists but not shown. Now when I set UserControl2.Visible = true to show it again the simple binding stops working! I navigate in the grid but either the ConcurrencyManager stops working or the simple binding becomes disconnected. My question: Are there any known issues/ best practices with the binding & concurrency manager? Thanks a lot, Adi Barda

  • Activity restart on rotation Android

    In my Android application, when I rotate the device (slide out the keyboard) then my activity is restarted (onCreate is called). Now, this is probably how it's supposed to be, but I do a lot of initial setting up in the onCreate method, so I need either: 1. Put all the initial setting up in another function so it's not all lost on device rotation or 2. Make it so onCreate is not called again and the layout just adjusts or 3. Limit the app to just portrait so that onCreate is not called.

  • Universal iPhone/iPad application debug compilation error for iPhone testing

    I have written an iPhone and iPad universal app which runs fine in the iPad simulator on Xcode, but I would now like to test the iPhone functionality. I seem unable to run the iPhone simulator with this code as it always defaults to the iPad? Instead I tried to run on the device and as it begins to run I get the following error: dyld: Symbol not found: _OBJC_CLASS_$_UISplitViewController Referenced from: /var/mobile/Applications/9770ACFA-0B88-41D4-AF56-77B66B324640/Test.app/Test Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/UIKit in /var/mobile/Applications/9770ACFA-0B88-41D4-AF56-77B66B324640/Test.app/TEST As the App is built programmatically rather than using XIB's, I've split the 2 device logics using the following lines in the main.m method: if (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad) { retVal = UIApplicationMain(argc, argv, nil, @"AppDelegate_Pad"); } else { retVal = UIApplicationMain(argc, argv, nil, @"AppDelegate_Phone"); } From that point forth they use different AppDelegates and I've checked my headers to ensure the UISplitView is never used nor imported via the Phone logic. How do I avoid this error and is there a better way to split the universal logic paths in this programmatically-created app?

  • Core Location Best Placement and User Interruption

    Hi All, My application uses Core Location in three different views. It's working perfectly. In my first view, I subclass the CLLocationManager and use protocol methods for location updates to my calling class. Before I install the framework and code in my other classes, I was wondering: Is the protocol method the best way? What happens to the Core Location execution if the user exits the view or quits the app while it's trying to get a location fix? Is the location task terminated with the GPS system turned off immediately? If the user simply switches to another view, is it OK to assume that I can start Core Location in the next view without regard to the last? Where should the first update location call be placed. Should the application delegate instantiate the CLLocation Manager class using protocol so that it can update any of the views chosen or should each class instantiate the manager. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

But I have removed all cells in atableview before call 'reloadData'.   • UITableView backgroundColor always grey on iPad

    Hi, When I set the backgroundColor for my UITableView it works fine on iPhone (device and simulator) but NOT on the iPad simulator. Instead I get a light grey background for any color I set including groupTableViewBackgroundColor. Steps to reproduce: Create a new navigation-based project. Open RootViewController.xib and set the table view style to "Grouped". Add this responder to the RootViewController:- (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; } Select Simulator SDK 3.2, build and run. You will get a black background (device and simulator). Select your target in the project tree. Click on Project : Upgrade Current Target for iPad. Build and run. You will get a light grey background. Revert the table view style to Plain and you will get a black background. Thanks for your help!

    Till now I've been exporting data INTO the SQL Server CE database, but now in SSIS I'm attempting to source data that was inserted in a previous step of the import. The SSIS fails during validation with the following error Error: Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DtsCouldNotCreateManagedConnectionException: Could not create a managed connection manager. I am attempting to use the ADO NET Source that connects to the Data Source using the Microsoft.SqlServerCe.Client.3.5 provider (i.e. ADO.NET connection manager). I CAN preview the data in the ADO.NET Source editor, but the package validation fails due to the above error.

  • How can I connect to Android with ADB over TCP?

    I am attempting to debug an application on a Motorola Droid but I am having some difficulty connecting to the device via USB. My development server is a Windows 7 64bit VM running in HyperV and so I cannot connect directly via USB in the guest or from the host. I installed a couple of different USB over TCP solutions but the connection appears to have issues since the adb monitor reports "devicemonitor failed to start monitoring" repeatedly. I was wondering if there is a way to connect directly from the client on the development machine to the daemon on the device using the network instead of the usb connection or possibly other viable options?

  • View controllers inside tab bar controller not auto-resizing on rotation

    (Correction: the view controllers are not auto-resizing instead of not auto-rotating.) In an iPad app, I have five regular view controllers (not navigation controllers or anything like that) inside a tab bar controller. The tab bar controller is just a plain UITabBarController declared in the app delegate. All the view controllers return YES in the shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation method. On both the simulator and device, on rotation, the tab bar and the current view controller rotate but the currently selected view controller (call it A) does not resize properly. It keeps its portrait width and height (but it is rotated). If I switch to another view controller B and then back to A (without rotating the device again), A appears correctly resized. This happens with any of the five view controllers Why doesn't the currently selected view controller resize immediately on rotation and how do I fix it? Thanks.

  • Scanning notification through WIA

    I've registered to receive WIA notifications for all devices through RegisterEventCallbackInterface for WIA_EVENT_DEVICE_CONNECTED and WIA_EVENT_SCAN_IMAGE events. However I only receive notifications when scanner device is plugged in - I don't receive notification when I scan (for example with mspaint which uses WIA). Am I supposed to receive scanning notifications from applications or only when Scan button is pressed on a device? (I haven't tried the latter since I use a multifunction printer without Scan button). Is there any other way to be notified about successful scans through WIA? Thank you.

  • Using Add-on SDK to add toolbar buttons? Integrating XUL and Add-on SDK for Firefox Add-ons?

    I have already coded most of a Firefox add-on using the Add-on SDK API. I am now discovering that Add-on SDK might not be powerful enough for my purposes. I need two things: A drop down button in the toolbar next to the location bar. To modify the add-ons manager in firefox It is truly disappointing, but I don't believe either of these is possible with the Add-on SDK. First of all, I understand there is a widget module in the Add-on SDK API. But this only allows me to add a simple icon or label to the awkward add-on bar. What if I need to add a nicer button like the one next to the location bar for Firebug or Greasemonkey? As for modifying the add-ons manager in firefox, I have tried Nickolay Ponomarev's XUL with the Add-on SDK without any success whatsoever. If anyone knows how to get this working and can point me in the right direction that would be extremely helpful (cfx init --template xul doesn't do anything the regular SDK does when I try it)

  • App starts in 1.5 emulator but doesn't in 1.6

    My app works on 1.5 emulator and 1.5 device. When i try to start it on 1.6 emulator, it produces strange exceptions (doesn't even start). I don't have any 1.6 device to try this app if it works on a real device. I get some warnings in Eclipse ( warning: Ignoring InnerClasses attribute for an anonymous inner class that doesn't come with an associated EnclosingMethod attribute. This class was probably produced by a broken compiler.) and get cant rid of them (i think they come from some apache jars that i need to make http multipart posts). Is it possible that this jars are cause for my exceptions in 1.6 or is it something else? Creating a type alias <typeAlias alias="requestLifeTimeManager`1" type=" UI.Common.Unity.RequestLifetimeManager`1, UI.Common" /> and specifying it as a lifetime manager <types> <type type="[interface]" mapTo="[concretetype]" > <lifetime type="requestLifeTimeManager`1" /> </type> </types> causes the following error Cannot create an instance of UI.Common.Unity.RequestLifetimeManager`1[T] because Type.ContainsGenericParameters is true.     Hi guys, I've just completed my first app and having tested I'm ready for submission. However, despite numerous web searches and reading, I'm struggling to finalise the method required to enable me to have a different name on the app store to the name that appears under the app on the device home screen. In the plist.info file there is reference to bundle display name, executable name, bundle name, bundle identifier, product name etc. So, for example, say I would like the app store name to display as: HELLO WORLD and I would like the name below the icon on the device home screen to display as: HELLO How should I enter the data in the plist.info file to achieve the above?   • Is it actually possible to programmatically manage the state of an FTP server in IIS7?

    I'm able to manage FTP sites via the IIS manager, however, all attempts so far to manage the state of FTP sites using other means have failed, including: Using the IIS7 API (Microsoft.Web.Administration) Using WMI (with IIS6 compatibility enabled) Using the AppCmd tool in System32\inetsrv Related questions: Why am I unable to get Site.State for an FTP site, when using Microsoft.Web.Administration? Are there any workarounds I haven't tried? My objective is to manage (start/stop/query the state of) the FTP sites with C# code (as you can see from the 3 above attempted workarounds). When querying the FTP server state using WMI, it returns code 4, which means "Stopped", even though the site is definitely shown as running in IIS manager. AppCmd is useless, as it returns "Unknown" for FTP sites: c:\Windows\System32\inetsrv>appcmd list site SITE "Default Web Site" (id:1,bindings:http/*:80:,state:Stopped) SITE "Default FTP Site" (id:2,bindings:ftp/*:21:,state:Unknown)

  • problem with two .NET threads and hardware access

    I'm creating an application which communicates with the device via FT2232H USB/RS232 converter. For communication I'm using FTD2XX_NET.dll library from FTDI website. I'm using two threads: first thread continuously reads data from the device the second thread is the main thread of the Windows Form Application I've got a problem when I'm trying to write any data to the device while the receiver's thread is running. The main thread simply hangs up on ftdiDevice.Write function. I tried to synchronize both threads so that only one thread can use Read/Write function at the same time, but it didn't help. Below code responsible for the communication. Note that following functions are methods of FtdiPort class. Its a great device, but I don't like how Sprint and HTC got replaced all of the native apps that were added on after 2.0 such as Gallery. The Gallery app on the phone uses flickr and facebook connect. I want to sync my Picasa albums. How can i get put the true Google applications on this device?
