• Using Windows Azure In Europe and the middel East

  Hi All, I've built my application in .net and sql server 2008. Having looking for a hosting soultion I stumpled upon windows azure. I saw that currently its only availabe in the US. Can I use the service if I live outside of the US? If I upload my website up there and people try entering, will people from outside of the US be blocked? Sorry for posting an unrelated program question. I am not receiving an answer anywhere else, and I can see that there are serveral question regarding azure which are not program related here. Thank you!

  Am looking for examples specific to .net/mvc and servers native WinServer08 where problem being addressed is processing a bounced smtp msg so as to bind to an estore transaction and updating account/profile properties. Reading the related questions i find an interesting reference to [VERP]2. Under the heading 'Software that supports VERP i find that IIS is not on the list. Does that mean i need to find a library to integrate into my store's assembly? What resources do I have to pull together to make sure that the webapp is informed when mail bounces? fwiw - i'm working with a very low volume site.

  I want give web development using Python a shot, but I'm failing hard. I don't even know if I CAN run Python. The webpage for my web host says it supports all kinds of stuff, including Python. I've never touched anything CGI related and this does not appear to be a noob friendly area. Below is all the information I could think of that might be useful: Shared host: Yes Webhost: dibbsonhosting.com Server OS: linux Python installed: Yes (or so says the webhost) mod_python installed: Don't Know WSGI installed: Don't Know Access to http.conf: No Terminal access: No Cpanel: Yes FTP: Yes Django: downloaded latest stable release, not uploaded anywhere, not sure where to put it. • Simple rails routing / url question

  I'm using Ryan Bates' nifty authentication in my application for user signup and login. Each user has_many :widgets, but I'd like to allow users to browse other users' widgets. I'm thinking that a url scheme like /username/widgets/widget_id would make a lot of sense--it would keep all widget-related code in the same place (the widgets controller). However, I'm not sure how to use this style of URL in my app. Right now my codebase is such that it permits logged-in users to browse only their own widgets, which live at /widgets/widget_id. What changes would I need to make to routes.rb, my models classes, and any place where links to a given widget are needed? I've done Rails work before but am a newb when it comes to more complicated routing, etc, so I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks for your consideration!

• Learning C++ from AS3

  I'm a decent AS3 programmer. I work in games, and that is my reason for programming. While there is much I can accomplish with Adobe AIR, my understanding at this point is that learning C++ is probably a good direction to take. I would learn a lot of valuable lower level programming if I needed it down the road, and I would have an easier time learning other C oriented languages. I see a lot of information for people looking to learn AS3 who know C++, but not the other way around. Why C++? Cross platform compatibility is important to me, so I'm not particularly interested in C# or Objective-C at this junction. I'm also aware of HaXe, and while I love the concept, after doing some research I'm worried about investing a lot of time into something so recent with limited learning resources and documentation. I'm looking for advice and resources (books, articles) related to this topic. Thanks in advance!

  I am trying to write a WPF windows application that dynamically creates a 3 D object for an existing 3D Image. The senerio is as follows. Mark the points randomly on the existing 3D Image. Create a 3D object based on the points already marked. Check the below Sample Screenshots. Screenshot 1 and Screenshot 2 I am successfully able to load the 3D file to the WPF form. And was able to perform the rotation using TrackballDecorator 3D Tools library. • How do I attach an event handler to the document or window in GWT?

  In a GWT app centered around a canvas, I'm having trouble keeping focus directed in the right place - particularly for keyboard shortcuts. For now, I've wrapped the canvas in a FocusPanel, but that causes the canvas to not respond to the RequiresResize protocol, because FocusPanel does not plumb that. A second (related, I think) problem is that the FocusPanel is not getting Ctrl-A keypress events at all (tested on Mac Chrome). I can get Ctrl-Z and other keys (such as arrows) just fine. In a pure JavaScript world, I think the best answer to this would be to attach mouse and key handlers to the document or window object (I'm not positive which is better). However, I don't see an obvious way to do this in GWT - in particular, the Document and Window classes lack methods for attaching these kind of event handlers? Anyone know how to do it, or, perhaps, to solve the more general problem of keeping focus on an appropriate widget able to handle keyboard shortcuts?

  Okay, I am really stuck here. I have a table of tr's that have id's: #tr_xx where xx is a number. item is a number. The if(... part makes sure that what follows is only executed once at the end of all the animations. $('#tr_' + item + '>td').fadeOut('slow', function() { if($('#tr_' + item + '>td:animated').length === 0) { $(this).parent().remove(); // This function recolors the rows // -not really related to this Recolor(); } }); The problem is that the tr does not get deleted. It just gets hidden. How can I delete the <tr> and not just hide it?

  Hi, I'm working with visual studio 2008 express and sql 2008 express. I'm trying to create mdf database (Add new Item ...)and I recieve the following error message: "a network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verfy that instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named pipes Provider:40 - could not open connection to SQL)" Why ? Is it possible to create mdf database with SQL 2008 Express ? If it is then what to do ?

• Accepted date format changed overnight

  Since yesterday I started encountering errors related to date formats in SQL Server 2008. Up until yesterday the following used to work. EXEC MyStoredProc '2010-03-15 00:00:00.000' Since yesterday I started getting out of range errors. After investigating I discovered the date as above is now being interpreted as "the 3rd of the 15th month" which will cause a out of range error. I have been able to fix this using the following format with the "T". EXEC MyStoredProc '2010-03-15T00:00:00.000' By using this format its working fine. Basically all I'm trying to find out is if there is some Hotfix or patch that could have caused this, as all my queries using the first mentioned formats have been working for months. Also this is not a setting that was changed by someone in the company as this is occurring on all SQL 2005/2008 servers

• How can I emulate forward on 404 in jersey?

  I have a picture on a given URL. The picture might need a referesh. I want to do the freshness-check at the time of the request. Therefore, I coded a jersey resource handling the request on the picture URL. It refreshes the picture on the filesystem if necessary. I do not want to re-code a caching mechansim, but rely on tomcat's implementation. Therefore, I would like to "forward" the request in the internal handler chain. I tried return new Viewable(sb.toString());, but a viewable is not a picture. What return type can I use? I could let the concrete picture reside on another URL and send a 307 (Temporary Redirect). • Is it possible to prevent iPhone/iPad orientation changing in the browser?

  I've seen similar questions on this issue, but they are related to native apps. I build web apps for the iPhone/iPad that run in the browser (Safari). I was wondering if there is a way to prevent orientation change in the browser, perhaps via some meta tag. I know of the viewport meta tag which allows you to specify scale and zooming capabilities, so figured maybe there is something similar for orientation. I doubt it is possible, but I thought I'd just pop a question on here to see.

This the actual query wich search retrieve all tags contained by the image: SELECT tag FROM nodes JOIN tags ON nodes.tag_id = tags.id WHERE image_id = images.id and nodes.private = images.private ORDER BY tag How can i mix this two to have only one query?

• Debug.Assert seems not to work in Mono

  Consider the following C# program: using System; using System.Diagnostics; namespace Test { class MainClass { public static void Main (string[] args) { Debug.Assert(false); Debug.Fail("fail!"); Console.WriteLine ("Hello World!"); } } } When compiling this using: dmcs -debug -d:DEBUG Main.cs and then running it with: mono --debug Main.exe the assertion and fail seem to be ignored. The output is just: Hello World! I checked other related questions on StackOverflow, but I could not find a solution. In particular the solution give in Mono - Debug.Assert does not work does not work. (UPDATE: the update solution does work, see below comments.) I use Mono 2.1.5-1 on Ubuntu 11.10.

• Need help in filtering records based on radius value in solr

  Hi, I am using solr with Lucene spatial 2.9.1 as per http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-spatial/ I want to write a query, that will retrieve records within a given radius using hsin function, and using cartesian tiers as filters. So i wrote query like this http://localhost:8983/solr/select/?q=body:engineering colleges^0 AND _val_:"recip(hsin(0.227486,1.354193 , lat_rad, lng_rad, 4), 1, 1, 0)"^100 &&fq={!tier x=13.033993 y=77.589569 radians=false dist=4 prefix=tier_ unit=m} My records include many US records and few Indian records. For US records filtering based on radius is working fine. But for Indian records its not varying even if i change the radius . So can any one tell me if anything is wrong with the query or is there any configuration issues related to solr in order to make this work, or since record density is very less for Indian records filtering is not happening properly.Am not able to figure it out.   I have a listview called quotesList, and I am trying to use an adapter to put information in it. The bold represents where the red squiggly is. Syntax error on token "adapter", VariableDeclaratorId expected after this token The period after listView gives an error as well, but I'm pretty sure its just related to the other error, as its a syntax error. Syntax error on token(s), misplaced construct(s) Thanks in advance!

• Wicket and a rich ajax website: easiest way to do it?

  I want to use Wicket to build an application, but I have some designers that would like to write/maintain the javascript, and they basically expect 1 JS-segment per page, and a global JS-file. I think the most natural way to add javascript in wicket is to add it per component (not per page), which would create problems for those designers (fractioned javascript, and having to write it in java-files). Is there a better way to solve this? (of course, I expect things to work after a partial refresh.) And a second (related) thing they'd like (and I'd like actually) is the possibility to request information in JSON-format through a static link , is this possible in Wicket?
