• jquery ajax: headers seem to not be working

  I have a function that adds eventhandlers to control events. Right now I have several overloads that add events to different types of controls: Public Sub AddEventHandler(Button, ButtonEvent) 'adds event handling for Button.Click public Sub AddEventHandler(LinkButton, ButtonEvent)'adds event handling for LinkButton.Click The problem is I want to write a function that is more robust like: Public sub AddEventHandler(Control, EventToHandle, ControlEvent) where EventToHandle is the parameter representing Button.Click or whatever event that Button has associated with it. • cakephp find('list') - problem using

  I'm trying to get an array to poplulate a Counties select. If I use find('all') I can get the data but this array needs flattening to use in the view with $form-input($counties). If I use find('list') I can't seem to get the right array - which is simple array of county names. What I have tried is this: $ops=array( 'conditions' => array( 'display' => '!=0', 'TO_DAYS(event_finish) >= TO_DAYS(NOW())' ), 'fields' => 'DISTINCT venue_county', 'order' => 'venue_county DESC' ); $this->set('counties', $this->Event->find('list',$ops)); but the SQL this generates is: SELECT Event.id, DISTINCT Event.venue_county FROM events AS Event WHERE display = 1 AND TO_DAYS(event_finish) = TO_DAYS(NOW()) ORDER BY venue_county DESC which generates an error because it first inserts the Event.id field in the query - which is not wanted and causes the error. In my database I have a single table for Events which includes the venue address and I don't really want to create another table for address. What options should I be using efor the find('list') call?

  Hi, I'm creating a Rails application in which logging individual user actions is vital. Every time a user clicks a url, I want to log the action along with all parameters. I'd like to have the ActivityLog::log method automatically get the IP address, referring url, and current url (I know how to do this already) and create a new record in the table. So, my questions are: How do I do this? How do I use ActivityLog without having to create an instance everytime I want to log? Is this the best way? Some people have argued for a flat-file log for this kind of logging - however, I want admins to be able to see a user's activity in the backend as well, so I thought a database solution may be better?

• UI updates not happening in the expected order

  I have a Panel which hosts a number of child controls in a grid layout. The child controls each consist of a Panel with a PictureBox and a Label. When one of these child controls is clicked it becomes "selected" (which basically entails changing its background to a different color) and an event is fired. In the handler for this event, an image is displayed in a PictureBox on a separate form. In code, the background of the child control is definitely changed before firing the event, but for some reason it never updates at runtime until after the image has updated in the other Form. I've tried to Invalidate() and Refresh() the child control before firing the event, without effect. Why is this happening, and what can I do to set it right?

• JS Split ( ) to check if substring exists in Array

  I have an array of products that are stored as Strings in this format productname:quantity. The issue I am running into is that if a user adds one product with a quantity of x it is inserted into the array as it should. However, if they then decide to add more of a particular product a new entry is made into the array instead of checking if the product already exists and adjusting the quantity to the new value. oldQty + newQty. For example this is my array: ["CBL202659/A:1","OUTER9:1","PALLET CARDS:1"] If I add another PALLET CARDS product it creates a new entry rather than updating the quantity of the existing item to 2. For instance, the global pos is exactly 600,230 but row-column pair is randomly (5,3) and (4,3). I mean, what?! Also, when i click to an item from the last to rows (later than 13, i guess) will never go into condition "if (clickedItem && clickedItem-column()1 && clickedItem-row()0)", i think it's mainly because 'clickedItem' is null. • What language should I use to parse a lot of text?

  My company's proprietary software generates a log file that is much easier to use if it is parsed. The log parser we all use was written by another employee as a side project, and it has horrible performance. These log files can grow to 10s of megabytes very quickly, and the parser we currently use has issues if a log file is bigger than 1 megabyte. So, I want to write a program that can parse this massive amount of text in the shortest amount of time possible. We use Windows exclusively, so running on Windows is a must. Our current implementation runs on a local web server, and I'm convinced that running it as an application would have to be faster. All suggestions will be helpful. Thanks.

• What is the purpose of @ as part of a member name in C#?

  As you can imagine, Googling or Binging for any phrase containing an '@' is difficult. In creating a new web service, one of the members of the imported C# proxy class is prefixed with the @. For example: plan.@event = new Insurance.Event(); I assume that it is Visual Studio's way resolving potential conflicts with reserved words because 'event' is a reserved word. Changing the property in the web service interface to something other than 'event' (i.e. 'healthevent') removes the @ from the property. Is this a correct assumption?

• Select distinct ... inner join vs. select ... where id in (...)

  I'm trying to create a subset of a table (as a materialized view), defined as those records which have a matching record in another materialized view. For example, let's say I have a Users table with user_id and name columns, and a Log table, with entry_id, user_id, activity, and timestamp columns. First I create a materialized view of the Log table, selecting only those rows with timestamp some_date. Now I want a materliazed view of the Users referenced in my snapshot of the Log table. I can either create it as select * from Users where user_id in (select user_id from Log_mview), or I can do select distinct u.* from Users u inner join Log_mview l on u.user_id = l.user_id (need the distinct to avoid multiple hits from users with multiple log entries). The former seems cleaner and more elegant, but takes much longer. Am I missing something? Is there a better way to do this?

Notice they are in incorrect order, to get my point across.   I have two functions, the names are Function3, Function4, Function3 will send request to server side to get jsondata by using ajax, which, however, will take about 3 seconds to complete. Function4 is a common function which will wait for Function3's result and then action. • appending and reading text file

  Environment: Any .Net Framework welcomed. I have a log file that gets written to 24/7. I am trying to create an application that will read the log file and process the data. What's the best way to read the log file efficiently? I imagine monitoring the file with something like FileSystemWatcher. But how do I make sure I don't read the same data once it's been processed by my application? Or say the application aborts for some unknown reason, how would it pick up where it left off last? There's usually a header and footer around the payload that's in the log file. Maybe an id field in the content as well. Not sure yet though about the id field being there. I also imagined maybe saving the lines read count somewhere to maybe use that as bookmark.

• Persistent static routes fail on MacOS 10.6.5 startup!

  I'm unable to get static routes to persist a reboot on Mac OS 10.6.5. I've tried all of the methods prescribed in Google search results, and previous posts on this site. I've tried manually creating a launchd daemon, and used RouteSplit's launchd daemon to no avail. It's clear that the interface is not ready when these methods attempt to apply the route. This workstation in question is getting its IP from DHCP and probably hasn't gotten its DHCP lease when the command runs. We're able to apply the route by hand when logged in, but not through startup methods. Is there another way to apply this route by sneaking the command into something later, but before the login window appears to the user? Here is some relevant log info from system.log. You can see the "route: writing to routing socket: Network is unreachable" errors where my launchd script fires off. I've tried adding extra "sleep" and "ipconfig waitall" statements later in the script but this doesn't fly. • Persistent static routes fail on MacOS 10.6.5 startup!

  I'm unable to get static routes to persist a reboot on Mac OS 10.6.5. I've tried all of the methods prescribed in Google search results, and previous posts on this site. I've tried manually creating a launchd daemon, and used RouteSplit's launchd daemon to no avail. It's clear that the interface is not ready when these methods attempt to apply the route. This workstation in question is getting its IP from DHCP and probably hasn't gotten its DHCP lease when the command runs. We're able to apply the route by hand when logged in, but not through startup methods. Is there another way to apply this route by sneaking the command into something later, but before the login window appears to the user? Here is some relevant log info from system.log. You can see the "route: writing to routing socket: Network is unreachable" errors where my launchd script fires off. I've tried adding extra "sleep" and "ipconfig waitall" statements later in the script but this doesn't fly.
