• Cannot Connect To VMWare Guest OS Using Either RDP or VNC

  Hi, I have a PC (Windows XP SP3) with VMWare Workstation 7 installed. The VMWare hosts Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2. RealVNC (4.1.3) is installed on both OS'es. Both of them use Hamachi2. Host OS (WinXP) also runs ZoneAlarm Firewall. Hamachi network is set as trusted. My goal is to allow RDP and VNC connections to be made to the guest OS (Windows Server 2003). Both options work absolutely fine if I connect from the host OS. However I have problems when other computers from our Hamachi network try to connect the guest OS (Win2K3). 1) RDP connections. RDP window opens, shows black content and after 15-20 seconds displays following error: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_yQhsRRimgKU/TArRrtiteQI/AAAAAAAABZA/e96za-y9wzo/rdp_error.JPG 2) RealVCN connections. Users are able to connect but all they see is a black screen inside VNC window. At the same their input (keystrokes or mouse moves/clicks) are visible when looking at the console window of the Win2K3. I really appreciate any ideas on how to resolve mentioned problems.   Disclaimer up front - I'm definitely not going to include any links in here - this question isn't part of my marketing! I've had a few projects recently where the end product is something that developers will use. In the past I've been on the receiving end of all sorts of marketing - as a developer I've gotten no end of junk - 1000s of pens, tee-shirts and mouse pads; enough CDs to keep my desk tea-free; some very useful USB keys with some logos I no longer recognise; a small forest's worth of leaflets; a bulging spam folder full of ignored emails, etc... So that's my question - What are good ways to market to developers? And as an aside - are developers the wrong people to target? - since we so often don't have a purchasing budget anyways!

• Turn your laptop into a wireless Access Point with Windows 7!

  Windows 7 offers a very cool feature where you can connect multiple devices to any wired and wireless network connection (hotel, cable, 3G, UMTS, EDGE, WIFI, RJ45, Ethernet, etc.) by turning your own laptop into a wireless AP (Access Point) to relay those devices not directly connected to the internet. For this just enter these two commands to an elevated (right click on CMD.EXE, run as administrator): netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=YOURFRIENDLYSSID key=SOMEPASSWORD netsh wlan start hostednetwork At this point, if Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is setup, anyone can connect to your SoftAP (if they know the PWD of course) and the traffic will be sent through whatever adapter you want. You can actually bridge it across an entirely different adapter... or the same on a different Wifi LAN. A GUI to set this up can be downloaded for free here: http://www.connectify.me/

• Best Web Site Copying Software

  I just wanted to get some opinions on the best "web site copying" software out there (free or commercial is fine). I have a site that I've recently become responsible for managing, and the previous consultant has not provided operating system access. As such, the plan is to re-host the web site. I realize there are a lot of different issues to consider in doing this. However, I don't have much choice in the matter now. The plan is to use web site copying software (ala HTTrack) to "rip" the web site, and then modify what is downloaded back in to a maintainable site. This, of course, involves HTML, css, javascript, etc on the front-end. I'd like to recover as much of the site as possible to make re-creating it as easy as possible.

• Are Meta tags useful for SEO?

  Reading a Search Results with this or a similar phrased question can lead to reading a lot of conflicting answers. Are there any meta tags that matter in SEO? From what I have read I do know that meta keywords are no longer used (or so little it is not worth using them) and don't worry with using them. Meta Description tags are not used for page ranking but can effect click through rates so should be used but be less than 160 characters. I know the following meta tags exist: author - the author's name and possibly email address robots - to allow or disallow indexing by robots copyright - the copyright date of the page How much do these meta tags matter and are there others that are new (including ones that may not be used by all but might be used in the future or are used by only one of the big players like Google or Bing) meta tags that should be included? Note: Even if a meta tag doesn't matter in SEO but helps with click through rates similar to the descript tag does then feel free to include it with your answer.

  I am taking Computer Graphics course this semester and we have a video game competition. I am making racing game with simulated dynamics. Our professor told us that we don't have to do much of a modelling but since we haven't started the gaming part and since I have free time I want to model the car. My question is firstly which software do you recommend to design game components? I know Maya right now. Secondly, if I design the car or any other part, what should its polygon count in order to run game smoothly? I can design pretty much everything but I assume that it is hard to design low-poly models.

• Magento Bulk Product Import + Modules Nightmare

  Have 5,000 products in CSV file File has been re-saved as UT8 file in google documents and exported to CSV from excel File loads perfectly with all fields in demo of magento store manager (except we dont want to buy it:) When trying to upload in regular Magento..keep getting error messages on column duplicates....yes we have hundreds of duplicates as the titles of products in fields correspond with different sizes, etc...no way around it Any solutions around this or any open source software similar to store manager that can do the trick. Ready to give up and go to paid solution such as Big Commerce Also, Uploaded a bunch of free modules/keys...of open source bulk import products from magentocommerce but I cant find them anywhere in the main admin panel to use...there is no menu item for them anywhere??

  I have written a small front-end to the Festival TTS system using Python/Django. I wish to deploy it on the Google App Engine cloud. A few questions: My application uses the Festival app 'text2wave'. Will is work on the cloud? I have used Python primitives like subprocess.call() to invoke the aforementioned program. Will that work? If your answer to any or both of (1) and (2) is no, is there a free api on the web that I can use (from the appengine)? I read somewhere about placing calls from Phono to a Voxeo backend, but I'm not sure what that means. I am aware of the Google Translate extension that allows translation using an HTTP GET (REST) request, but here the text is limited to 100 chars. Bad. Plus, they may take it down any point of time.
