• Apache Issues on Windows Server 2008

  I'm looking to reinstall Apache 2.2.25 since I continue to get these errors in the Windows Application log every 2-5 minutes: Faulting application name: httpd.exe, version: 2.2.25.0, time stamp: 0x51dd049c Faulting module name: zlib1.dll, version: 1.2.3.0, time stamp: 0x4790446a Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00002bad Faulting process id: 0x38e8 Faulting application start time: 0x01cfbfd70cdfbc4f Faulting application path: C:\Apache2\bin\httpd.exe Faulting module path: C:\Apache2\bin\zlib1.dll Report Id: 745f20de-2bca-11e4-bd5d-002590f28d7e If the new install doesn't work or if there are some "issues", can I simply restore the Apache2 directory from backup and then I'll just be back where I started? I thought about just renaming the current install to something like c:\apache2_old and if something fails, I can delete the new install and rename c:\apace2_old back to c:\apache. What do you all think?

• Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled

  I am running 64 bit Ubuntu 11.10 on an i7 with 8gigs of ram. I thought of putting this on askubuntu.com but decided that maybe the question has a much broader appeal. I have the following error message popping up when I run math simulations. CPUn: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = xxxxxxx) CPUn: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = xxxxxxx) I realize that this is a hardware warning message (machine check exception, correct me if I am wrong). How do I turn these messages off? Since it doesn't seem to have a detrimental effect of my calculations or my computer (presumably), I don't like it cluttering up my virtual console screen with hundreds of these messages.

  I am trying to open port 80 and 3690 for HTTP and svnserve respectively. I have Windows Firewall off, and have tried temporarily disabling Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise, to no avail. According to http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/, both ports 80 and 3690 are still blocked. I can't think of what would be blocking them if Windows Firewall and my antivirus are disabled. • How do I activate SQLite3 on PHP 5.3.3 Centos 5?

  I have reviewed the previous questions on this and they don't seem to cover what exactly I'm looking for, before I start, I'm no server admin. I'm trying to help get this server up and active and I have got it all going with exception to the SQLite3. • Restoring factory recovery partition (samsung)

  I have upgraded the HDD in a Samsung laptop and would like to restore the "Press F4 for recovery" partition. My new disk has three partitions, System, Windows, and Recovery. I did a dd of the recovery partition from the old HDD to the new. I also set the diag flag on the new HDD. F4 recovery still is not working. tldr: I mapped my new disk like my old disk with the exception of exact sizes. I did the recover partition from old to new via livecd. F4 recovery does not work

• Can't execute java files on command prompts when they work perfectly in Eclipse IDE, what to do?

  I run the following code in Eclipse IDE: public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello World!" ) ; } } And it renders the expected output. When getting into the command prompt (DOS) already in the directory, I type this javac HelloWorld.java And then this java HelloWorld And the output reads Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: HelloWorld <wrong name:learning/HelloWorld> With a whole lot more errors, learning being the name of my general package. What's wrong? I have installed Eclipse x86 SDK 4.2.0 together bit with the latest JRE and JDK both in 64 bit as well.

• ProFTPD Virtual User Directory

  Alright, I'm trying to replicate a web hosting company's basic setup here by authenticating virtual users via SQL and redirect/jail them to their directory. I've accomplished most of the goals here, with the exception of redirect/jailing them to their directory. The directories are stored in /home/ftp and that's what DefaultRoot is set to. I want each individual user to have and be jailed into their own directory. It doesn't appear that setting homedir in SQL has any effect. Upon logging into FTP with any user, it logs into the DefaultRoot with no directory jailing or redirect. How do I accomplish this last task?

  Hi, I work in IT at a school and we recently updated our database software, however the web access that the teachers use to do registration does not work too well with Internet Explorer 7 and we're thinking about switching to chrome (mostly due to me hating IE in general) but the problem we have is that users are unable to migrate their bookmarks over from IE due to account restrictions, is there any way to get this working? A bit of info about the system if it could be helpful; Almost all the client PCs are running Win XP SP2. My colleagues machines are running Windows 7, I use OS X Snow Leopard and most of out servers are running windows server 2003 (with the exception of 2 one on 2000 server and another on 2008 R2). The Active Directory Controller is running Windows Server 2003

• access server from blocked machine

  I want to access my Linux server(vnc) from a distant machine which has most ports blocked with the exception of 21, 25, 80, 135, and 445. So, I would like to know if theres a way to communicate with my vnc server on the server, while using an available port on client. i.e. port 25 So I think essentially I need the serverside router to forward packets coming in on port 25 to linux server machine(servername, p5900), which should forward them on to itself on port 5900. And when transmitting, I need the server OR to router to send out packets changing their port to 25. Im totally lost on how to acheive this. Please help(much appreciated). Thanks I do not use smtp.

• Why are my Google searches redirected?

  This machine was infected with various malware. I have scanned the system with Malwarebytes. It found and removed some 600 or so infected files. Now the machine seems to be running well with only one exception. Some Google search results are being redirected to some shady search engines. If I were to copy the url from the Google Search results and paste it in the address bar it would go to the correct site but if I click the link I will be redirected somewhere else.   hope this is the right stackexchange site to ask this: We've a group of webpages/services at work (SE Startup), ranging from SVN, trac, continous integration to link collections to a DMS. Nearly everything has an RSS Feed to get the info I need, with the exception of SVN. I'm looking for some kind of software that can integrate these well on a kind of start-page. The most recent changes, upcoming events etc should be clearly visible, as well as an option to search (the search will be provided from a different tool). A news area should be included as well. Currently, I'm pondering doing this with either wordpress or TWiki, although wordpress seems to be the simpler solution in terms of getting something good looking quickly. Authentication should be handled by HTTP-Basic Auth, which we already have in place and working well. I normally would consider Sharepoint a viable option for this, but we're exclusively mac and linux, I won't put up a windows server just for this.

• ruby on rails server is intermittently slow

  My rails installation was chugging along nicely. Last night we had to perform a hot-patch with was really a standard deploy of some exception code. Once capistrano finished the operation one of our admins discovered that there were two long running passenger processes. While we have deployed release over the past two weeks it would appear that these processes have been here and alive the whole time. Granted they could have been zombies or any other artifact and at this point we do not know what state they were in. Which leads me to the question: There are so many moving parts between the rails application and the OS/hardware that being a SME is probably no longer possible. So; how does a sysadmin perform root-cause analysis with any certainty? And: When do I just start rebooting servers?

  In some places in the US you need a "low voltage licence" to install "low voltage wiring" but I can't seem to find anything that says if this includes network wiring.   Does anyone know of a inexpensive NAT router that has the ability to limit access to the Internet to a specific MAC address? I know the Linksys routers have a MAC filtering feature, but it is the opposite of what I need. It allows you to block access to a specific MAC address. I need something that will block all, but allow an exception. I'm dealing with some VOIP issues in my company's network, and I think the answer is to have a separate router on the network for my PBX to use. I want to make sure that other nodes are not allowed to access the Internet via this second router.

Sendmail is working fine from the command line as root on localhost but when trying to send emails from the java web app (also on the same server from localhost) the following java exception is thrown. 501 5.0.0 HELO requires domain address EDIT: I have read that some people have found this is due to an incorrect hosts entry currently the hosts file contains 127.0.0.1 Centos-VPS localhost.localdomain localhost and i'm not sure what the Centos-VPS bit at the start is for but this is a clients hosted server so don't really want to break stuff EDIT see the RFC is helpful ... 501 Syntax error in parameters or arguments Now I know what the problem is!   Windows 8 includes PowerShell out of the box, but not the help. To get the help you run PowerShell as administrator and type "update-help". • Couchdb failing test suite on Linux

  Hi I've been trying to install CouchDB on my webfusion virtual server. I followed the latest instructions from the webfusion forum (see: http://forum.webfaction.com/viewtopic.php?id=2355 ) and it runs (just) Futon is very sluggish and I get 502 errors. Anyway when I run the test suite it fails on multiple tests. Webfaction support have been great but don't have erlang experience to interpret the error logs. Can anyone help me know what might be wrong? Test suite result: basics, all_docs, attachments, attachments_multipart, attachment_names, compact, config, conflicts, delayed_commits, design_docs, design_options all the errors are: Exception raised: {"error":"unknown","reason":"\u000d\u000a502 Bad Gateway\u000d\u000a\u000d\u000a<\h1502 Bad Gateway\u000d\u000a nginx\u000d\u000a\u000d\u000a\u000d\u000a"} except for 'compact; which also has: Assertion failed: xhr.responseText == "This is a base64 encoded text" Assertion failed: xhr.getResponseHeader("Content-Type") == "text/plain" I'm stumped. • mdadm raid1 fails to resync

  Hello, I'm trying to solve this problem I'm having with an mdadm raid1. I have an ubuntu 9.04 server running on a software 2-drive raid1 with mdadm. Yesterday, one of the drives failed, and so I replaced it with a brand new drive of the same size. I removed the faulty drive, copied the partition from the remaining good drive to the new drive and then added it to the raid. It re-synced and the system worked fine, until the drive that hadn't failed, was also labeled failed. Now I had the raid running solely on the new drive. So I purchased another drive and repeated the procedure above. So now I had 2 brand new drives and the raid was syncing. • Cannot access internal network on OSX 10.6.6

  Last week, I began having trouble connecting to our internal web servers. Usually, a refresh would take care of it or switching to a different wireless network, but as of yesterday, this wasn't enough. We have an internal DNS server using dnsmasq and a private internal host name (us.lcl). Once I started having more issues with the names not resolving, I tried pinging the server. Using the internal host name (s1.us.lcl), it failed. I tried using the IP address, but that also failed. I have no problems accessing external sites with the exception of it being a bit slower than normal. A reboot yesterday at lunch time after following the instructions here seemed to fix the issue, but when I came into the office this morning, it had stopped working. As of this posting, I cannot ping, ssh or access the web server using the internal host name or ip address. I'm the only one running 10.6 in my office and none of my colleagues has this issue.

• FTP blocked by firewall on windows 8.1 update 1 public network

  I've recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 u1. I connect to VPN to one of my projects, over which I connect to FTP server (using Total Commander 8.51a). Now, when I try to connect, Total Commander hangs on "Download" (in case of passive connection on "PASV" command). I've figured out that the problem is somehow caused by firewall, because it works if I disable firewall or I set the VPN network location to "private" (which I don't want, it is not enough trusted network for me) I tried to add total commander to firewall exception for total commander, both to inbound and outbound rule, but with no success. I have no more ideas how to configure the firewall to make FTP work properly, can you plese help me? thanks in advance.
