  • How to Use an Environment Variable as an Environment Variable Name

    - by Synetech inc.
    Hi, In my pursuit of a solution to another environment-variable/batch-file related problem, I have once again come across a problem I have visited before (but cannot for the life of me remember how, or even if I solved it). Say you have two BAT files (or one batch file and the command line). How can one pass an environment variable name to the other so that it can read the variable? The following example does not work: A.BAT: @call b.bat path B.BAT: @echo %%1% > A.BAT > %1 > B.BAT path > %1 It is easy enough to pass the environment variable name, but the callee cannot seem to use it. (I don’t remember if or how I dealt with this the last time it came up, but I suspect it required the less-than-ideal use of redirecting temporary BAT files and calling them and such.) Any ideas? Thanks.

  • How to pass get-parameter to backing bean in jsf?

    - by Roman
    I have get parameter with name controller. When I try to pass it (with propertyChangeListener) to my backing bean I get null instead of the real value of the parameter: <h:commandButton value="#{msg['mail.send']}" styleClass="mailbutton" action="#{mailSender.sendMail}"> <f:setPropertyActionListener target="#{mailSender.controllerName}" value="{#param.controller}"/> </h:commandButton> So, I have two questions: What is the proper way to set bean property with a get-parameter value? Actually, I've already get the value from ExternalContext#getRequestParam but maybe there are some other solutions. More interesting question: why propertyActionListener didn't work here? What does it do actually? (again I have some thoughts about it but it would be nice to read more comprehensive explanations).

  • How can I use "Dependency Injection" in simple php functions, and should I bother?

    - by Tchalvak
    I hear people talking about dependency injection and the benefit of it all the time, but I don't really understand it. I'm wondering if it's a solution to the "I pass database connections as arguments all the time" problem. I tried reading wikipedia's entry on it, but the example is written in Java so I don't solidly understand the difference it is trying to make clear. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dependency_injection ). I read this dependency-injection-in-php article ( http://www.potstuck.com/2009/01/08/php-dependency-injection/ ), and it seems like the objective is to not pass dependencies to an object directly, but to cordon off the creation of an object along with the creation of it's dependencies. I'm not sure how to apply that in a using php functions context, though. Additionally, is the following Dependency Injection, and should I bother trying to do dependency injection in a functional context? Version 1: (the kind of code that I create, but don't like, every day) function get_data_from_database($database_connection){ $data = $database_connection->query('blah'); return $data; } Version 2: (don't have to pass a database connection, but perhaps not dependency injection?) function get_database_connection(){ static $db_connection; if($db_connection){ return $db_connection; } else { // create db_connection ... } } function get_data_from_database(){ $conn = get_database_connection(); $data = $conn->query('blah'); return $data; } $data = get_data_from_database(); Version 3: (the creation of the "object"/data is separate, and the database code is still, so perhaps this would count as dependency injection?) function factory_of_data_set(){ static $db_connection; $data_set = null; $db_connection = get_database_connection(); $data_set = $db_connection->query('blah'); return $data_set; } $data = factory_of_data_set(); Anyone have a good resource or just insight that makes the method and benefit -crystal- clear?

  • What is the difference between array parameters in C

    - by STeN
    Hi, what is the difference between following function declarations, which create and return the array in C/C++? Both methods create the array and fill it with proper values and returns true if everything passed. bool getArray(int* array); bool getArray(int* array[]); Thanks Best Regards, STeN

  • Return an Oracle Associative Array from a function

    - by Paul Johnson
    Does anybody know if it is possible to return an associative array as the result of an Oracle function, if so do you have any examples? I have an Oracle package which contains an associative array declaration as defined below: TYPE EVENTPARAM IS TABLE OF NUMBER INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER; This is then used in a stored procedure outside the package as follows: v_CompParams areva_interface.eventparam; The intention is to store an associative array of strings in the variable v_CompParams, returned from a Parse function in another package. The definition for which is as follows: PACKAGE STRING_MANIP IS TYPE a_array IS TABLE OF NUMBER INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER; FUNCTION Parse (v_string VARCHAR2, v_delim VARCHAR2) RETURN a_array; FUNCTION RowCount(colln IN a_array) RETURN NUMBER; END; The code which implements this is: v_CompParams := STRING_MANIP.PARSE(v_CompID,v_Delim); Unfortunately it doesn't work, I get the error 'PLS-00382: expression is of wrong type'. I foolishly assumed, that since a_array derives from the same source Oracle type as the variable v_CompParams, that there would be no problem casting between them. Any help much appreciated. Kind Regards Paul J.

  • LINQ Query using UDF that receives parameters from the query

    - by Ben Fidge
    I need help using a UDF in a LINQ which calculates a users position from a fixed point. int pointX = 567, int pointY = 534; // random points on a square grid var q = from n in _context.Users join m in _context.GetUserDistance(n.posY, n.posY, pointX, pointY, n.UserId) on n.UserId equals m.UserId select new User() { PosX = n.PosX, PosY = n.PosY, Distance = m.Distance, Name = n.Name, UserId = n.UserId }; The GetUserDistance is just a UDF that returns a single row in a TVP with that users distance from the points deisgnated in pointX and pointY variables, and the designer generates the following for it: [global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.FunctionAttribute(Name="dbo.GetUserDistance", IsComposable=true)] public IQueryable<GetUserDistanceResult> GetUserDistance([global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ParameterAttribute(Name="X1", DbType="Int")] System.Nullable<int> x1, [global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ParameterAttribute(Name="X2", DbType="Int")] System.Nullable<int> x2, [global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ParameterAttribute(Name="Y1", DbType="Int")] System.Nullable<int> y1, [global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ParameterAttribute(Name="Y2", DbType="Int")] System.Nullable<int> y2, [global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ParameterAttribute(Name="UserId", DbType="Int")] System.Nullable<int> userId) { return this.CreateMethodCallQuery<GetUserDistanceResult>(this, ((MethodInfo)(MethodInfo.GetCurrentMethod())), x1, x2, y1, y2, userId); } when i try to compile i get The name 'n' does not exist in the current context

  • How can I easily pass all the variables from a template to a partial in Symfony with output escaping

    - by Failpunk
    It there an easy way to pass all the variables a template file has access to onto a partial when I have output escaping on? I tend to create a template file, then refactor things into a partial at some point and it would seem that there would be an easy way to just pass all the same variables from the template to the partial and be done with it. I have output escaping on and I can't just pass in $sf_data. It look like calling a partial from within another partial is very simple...just pass in the variable $vars.

  • transfer parameter to next request

    - by user234194
    I have a situation where clicking a link in one column on the datatable opens A update FORM in the same page. The problem is when I hit the submit button for update, the render is set to false again of that update panel which was previously set true by parameter passed clicking the link. I tried htmlhiddenInput and did setValue and getvalue but the value is lost. Is there any way I can save that parameter send from link, when clicked, even after submitting the form. I achieved it doing session but I dont wanna use session. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

  • How do I return an array from a method?

    - by dwwilson66
    I'm trying to create a deck of cards for my homework. Code is posted below. I need to create four sets of cards (the four suits) and am create a multidimensional array. When I print the results instead of trying to pass the array, I can see that the data in the array is as expected. However, when I try to pass the array card, I get an error cannot find symbol. I've got this modeled after texbook and Java tutorial examples, and I need some help figuring out what I'm missing. I've over-documented to give an idea of how I'm thinking this SHOULD work...please let me know where I've gone horribly wrong in my understanding. import java.util.*; import java.lang.*; // public class CardGame { public static int[][] main(String[] args) { int[][] startDeck = deckOfCards(); /* cast new deck as int[][], calling method deckOfCards System.out.println(" /// from array: " + Arrays.deepToString(startDeck)); } public static int[][] deckOfCards() /* method to return a multi-dimensional array */ { int rank; int suit; for(rank=1;rank<14;rank++) /* cards 1 - 13 .... */ { for(suit=1;suit<5;suit++) /* suits 1 - 4 .... */ { int[][] card = new int[][] /* define a new card... */ { {rank,suit} /* with rank/suit from for... loops */ }; System.out.println(" /// from array: " + Arrays.deepToString(card)); } } return card; /* Error: cannot find symbol } }

  • Calling cdecl Functions That Have Different Number of Arguments

    - by KlaxSmashing
    I have functions that I wish to call based on some input. Each function has different number of arguments. In other words, if (strcmp(str, "funcA") == 0) funcA(a, b, c); else if (strcmp(str, "funcB") == 0) funcB(d); else if (strcmp(str, "funcC") == 0) funcC(f, g); This is a bit bulky and hard to maintain. Ideally, these are variadic functions (e.g., printf-style) and can use varargs. But they are not. So exploiting the cdecl calling convention, I am stuffing the stack via a struct full of parameters. I'm wondering if there's a better way to do it. Note that this is strictly for in-house (e.g., simple tools, unit tests, etc.) and will not be used for any production code that might be subjected to malicious attacks. Example: #include <stdio.h> typedef struct __params { unsigned char* a; unsigned char* b; unsigned char* c; } params; int funcA(int a, int b) { printf("a = %d, b = %d\n", a, b); return a; } int funcB(int a, int b, const char* c) { printf("a = %d, b = %d, c = %s\n", a, b, c); return b; } int funcC(int* a) { printf("a = %d\n", *a); *a *= 2; return 0; } typedef int (*f)(params); int main(int argc, char**argv) { int val; int tmp; params myParams; f myFuncA = (f)funcA; f myFuncB = (f)funcB; f myFuncC = (f)funcC; myParams.a = (unsigned char*)100; myParams.b = (unsigned char*)200; val = myFuncA(myParams); printf("val = %d\n", val); myParams.c = (unsigned char*)"This is a test"; val = myFuncB(myParams); printf("val = %d\n", val); tmp = 300; myParams.a = (unsigned char*)&tmp; val = myFuncC(myParams); printf("a = %d, val = %d\n", tmp, val); return 0; } Output: gcc -o func func.c ./func a = 100, b = 200 val = 100 a = 100, b = 200, c = This is a test val = 200 a = 300 a = 600, val = 0

  • C++ operator lookup rules / Koenig lookup

    - by John Bartholomew
    While writing a test suite, I needed to provide an implementation of operator<<(std::ostream&... for Boost unit test to use. This worked: namespace theseus { namespace core { std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& ss, const PixelRGB& p) { return (ss << "PixelRGB(" << (int)p.r << "," << (int)p.g << "," << (int)p.b << ")"); } }} This didn't: std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& ss, const theseus::core::PixelRGB& p) { return (ss << "PixelRGB(" << (int)p.r << "," << (int)p.g << "," << (int)p.b << ")"); } Apparently, the second wasn't included in the candidate matches when g++ tried to resolve the use of the operator. Why (what rule causes this)? The code calling operator<< is deep within the Boost unit test framework, but here's the test code: BOOST_AUTO_TEST_SUITE(core_image) BOOST_AUTO_TEST_CASE(test_output) { using namespace theseus::core; BOOST_TEST_MESSAGE(PixelRGB(5,5,5)); // only compiles with operator<< definition inside theseus::core std::cout << PixelRGB(5,5,5) << "\n"; // works with either definition BOOST_CHECK(true); // prevent no-assertion error } BOOST_AUTO_TEST_SUITE_END() For reference, I'm using g++ 4.4 (though for the moment I'm assuming this behaviour is standards-conformant).

  • I'm trying to pass a string from my first ViewController to my second ViewController but it returns NULL

    - by Dashony
    In my first view controller I have 3 input fields each of them take the user input into and saves it into a string such as: address, username and password as NSUserDefaults. This part works fine. In my second view controller I'm trying to take the 3 strings from first controller (address, username and password) create a html link based on the 3 strings. I've tried many ways to access the 3 strings with no luck, the result I get is NULL. Here is my code: //.h file - first view controller with the 3 input fields CamSetup.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface CamSetup : UIViewController <UITextFieldDelegate> { NSString * address; NSString * username; NSString * password; IBOutlet UITextField * addressField; IBOutlet UITextField * usernameField; IBOutlet UITextField * passwordField; } -(IBAction) saveAddress: (id) sender; -(IBAction) saveUsername: (id) sender; -(IBAction) savePassword: (id) sender; @property(nonatomic, retain) UITextField *addressField; @property(nonatomic, retain) UITextField *usernameField; @property(nonatomic, retain) UITextField *passwordField; @property(nonatomic, retain) NSString *address; @property(nonatomic, retain) NSString *username; @property(nonatomic, retain) NSString *password; @end //.m file - first view controller CamSetup.m #import "CamSetup.h" @interface CamSetup () @end @implementation CamSetup @synthesize addressField, usernameField, passwordField, address, username, password; -(IBAction) saveAddress: (id) sender { address = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:addressField.text]; [addressField setText:address]; NSUserDefaults *stringDefaultAddress = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [stringDefaultAddress setObject:address forKey:@"stringKey1"]; NSLog(@"String [%@]", address); } -(IBAction) saveUsername: (id) sender { username = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:usernameField.text]; [usernameField setText:username]; NSUserDefaults *stringDefaultUsername = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [stringDefaultUsername setObject:username forKey:@"stringKey2"]; NSLog(@"String [%@]", username); } -(IBAction) savePassword: (id) sender { password = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:passwordField.text]; [passwordField setText:password]; NSUserDefaults *stringDefaultPassword = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [stringDefaultPassword setObject:password forKey:@"stringKey3"]; NSLog(@"String [%@]", password); } - (void)viewDidLoad { [addressField setText:[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:@"stringKey1"]]; [usernameField setText:[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:@"stringKey2"]]; [passwordField setText:[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:@"stringKey3"]]; [super viewDidLoad]; } @end //.h second view controller LiveView.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "CamSetup.h" @interface LiveView : UIViewController { NSString *theAddress; NSString *theUsername; NSString *thePassword; CamSetup *camsetup; //here is an instance of the first class } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *theAddress; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *theUsername; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *thePassword; @end //.m second view LiveView.m file #import "LiveView.h" @interface LiveView () @end @implementation LiveView @synthesize theAddress, theUsername, thePassword; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; theUsername = camsetup.username; //this is probably not right? • Pass complex objects to MVC Get parameters

    - by VJ
    I am wanting to pass something like the following to my view from my controller via GET not POST: public class MyDTO { public string val1 { get; set; } public string val2 { get; set; } public MyObject obj { get; set; } } public class MyObject { public int SomeInt { get; set; } public string ACoolValue { get; set; } public string YetAnotherCoolValue { get; set; } } And then the controller would like like this. (Note it is a GET): public ActionResult MyView(MyDTO dto) { return View(dto) } The problem is that the instance of MyObject is coming back as null, where val1 and val2 have data. Has anyone run across this?

  • How to retrieve an url parameter in the Zend Framework ?

    - by ismaelsow
    Hello guys ! I'am trying to retrieve an parameter passed in a url using the zend framework. But of course, it is not working ! My code looks like this : Generating the url : <?php echo $this->url(array('controller' => 'poll', 'action' => 'showresults', 'poll_id' => $poll['_id']), null, true) ?> Retrieving the "poll_id" parameter in showresultsAction() : $request = new Zend_Controller_Request_Http(); $poll_id = $request->getParam('poll_id'); The problem is that $poll_id is NULL. When I do a var_dump of $request-getParams(), it is also NULL. I have glanced trough the Zend Framework doc, but it was not very usefull. Any idea ? Thanks !

  • Urls parameters doesn't encoding correctly!

    - by Ivan90
    I'am using asp.net mvc version 1.0 and I've a problem with some parameter in a url! My url is look like so(http://localhost:2282/Tags/PostList/c#) routes.MapRoute( "TagsRoute", "Tags/PostList/{tag}", new { controller="Tags",Action="PostList",tag = "" } ); In effect the problem is that tag paramter isn't encoding and so simbol # is ignored! I am using an actionlink but maybe with version 1.0 isn't encoding parameter directly! <%=Html.ActionLink(itemtags.Tags.TagName, "PostList","Tags", new { tag = itemtags.Tags.TagName }, new { style = "color:red;" })%> With this actionlink only whitespace are encoding correctly, infact asp.net mvc become asp.net%20mvc and it work fine! But c# isn't encoding :( So I try to use Server.UrlEncode, and in effect it happen some stuff!!! Infact c# became c%2523 but it isn't correct again because hexadecimal of # is %23! Have you some solutions???? Route Contraints? Thanks

  • How do C++ compilers actually pass reference parameters?

    - by T.E.D.
    This question came about as a result of some mixed-langauge programming. I had a Fortran routine I wanted to call from C++ code. Fortran passes all its parameters by reference (unless you tell it otherwise). So I thought I'd be clever (bad start right there) in my C++ code and define the Fortran routine something like this: extern "C" void FORTRAN_ROUTINE (unsigned & flag); This code worked for a while but (of course right when I needed to leave) suddenly started blowing up on a return call. Clear indication of a munged call stack. Another engineer came behind me and fixed the problem, declaring that the routine had to be deinfed in C++ as extern "C" void FORTRAN_ROUTINE (unsigned * flag); I'd accept that except for two things. One is that it seems rather counter-intuitive for the compiler to not pass reference parameters by reference, and I can find no documentation anywhere that says that. The other is that he changed a whole raft of other code in there at the same time, so it theoretically could have been another change that fixed whatever the issue was. So the question is, how does C++ actually pass reference parameters? Is it perhaps free to do copy-in, copy-out for small values or something? In other words, are reference parameters utterly useless in mixed-language programming? I'd like to know so I don't make this same code-killing mistake ever again.

  • Forced naming of parameters in python

    - by Mark Mayo
    In python you may have a function definition: def info(object, spacing=10, collapse=1) which could be called in any of the following ways: info(odbchelper) info(odbchelper, 12) info(odbchelper, collapse=0) info(spacing=15, object=odbchelper) thanks to python's allowing of any-order arguments, so long as they're named. The problem we're having is as some of our larger functions grow, people might be adding parameters between spacing and collapse, meaning that the wrong values may be going to parameters that aren't named. In addition sometimes it's not always clear as to what needs to go in. We're after a way to force people to name certain parameters - not just a coding standard, but ideally a flag or pydev plugin? so that in the above 4 examples, only the last would pass the check as all the parameters are named. Odds are we'll only turn it on for certain functions, but any suggestions as to how to implement this - or if it's even possible would be appreciated.
