• jQuery when div is clicked update input field issue

  Hello, I'm rather new to jquery so this may be the issue. I have a script that outputs several divs all with different text data in them. I can get it to take one or I can script out different cases of each changing the class name but I think there has to be a way where it references whatever link is being clicked instead of what it's currently doing. • Field Members vs Method Variables?

  Recently I've been thinking about performance difference between class field members and method variables. What exactly I mean is in the example below : Lets say we have a DataContext object for Linq2SQL class DataLayer { ProductDataContext context = new ProductDataContext(); public IQueryable<Product> GetData() { return context.Where(t=>t.ProductId == 2); } } In the example above, context will be stored in heap and the GetData method variables will be removed from Stack after Method is executed. So lets examine the following example to make a distinction : class DataLayer { public IQueryable<Product> GetData() { ProductDataContext context = new ProductDataContext(); return context.Where(t=>t.ProductId == 2); } } (*1) So okay first thing we know is if we define ProductDataContext instance as a field, we can reach it everywhere in the class which means we don't have to create same object instance all the time. But lets say we are talking about Asp.NET and once the users press submit button the post data is sent to the server and the events are executed and the posted data stored in a database via the method above so it is probable that the same user can send different data after one another.If I know correctly after the page is executed, the finalizers come into play and clear things from memory (from heap) and that means we lose our instance variables from memory as well and after another post, DataContext should be created once again for the new page cycle. So it seems the only benefit of declaring it publicly to the whole class is the just number one text above. Or is there something other? Thanks in advance... • Rails: Can't set or update tag_list using a text field with acts_as_taggable_on

  Hey everyone, I'm trying to add tagging to a rails photo gallery system I'm working on. It works from the back-end, but if I try to set or change it in the form view, it doesn't work. I added acts_as_taggable to the photo model and did the migrations. My gallery builder is programmed to add one tag automatically to each photo it creates. This works fine, just as if it were setting it for the console. However, I can't seem to set tags using a text_field in the photo form. Here's the code I added to my photo form: <p> <%= f.label :tag_list %><br /> <%= f.text_field :tag_list %> </p> Now, that's pretty trivial, and since :tag_list supports single-string comma-separated assignment (e.g. tag_list = "this, that, the other" #= ['this', 'that', 'the other']), I don't see why using a text field doesn't work. And to make even less sense, if a tag list has already been populated, the list will still show up in the text field when editing the photo. I just can't seem to commit any changes to the list. The documentation on their github page doesn't appear to give any information on how to set these values from the view. Any ideas? Oh, and I'm using the Rails 3 gem version.

• Only want "Required field" error to appear ONCE in ASP.NET Validation Summary

  I have a form with several fields with a RequiredFieldValidator on them. If any of these fields are not filled in I only want the message "Please enter the items marked with an asterisk" to appear once in the ValidationSummary control and an asterisk to appear next to each field. I have done this using the method here. i.e. by setting Text to "*" and ValidationSummary.HeaderText to my message. Great, but no cigar as I also have other fields with other validators e.g. a RegEx for an Email field. This means that if all the required fields are entered but the email is incorrect, the ValidationSummary with "Please enter the items marked with an asterisk" will appear along with the message for the invalid email. Crap! I then tried using a ValidationGroup called "ReqField" and have a one ValidationSummary for this group (with my HeaderText) and another for the other validators, but alas, my Submit button only allows one ValidationGroup to be triggered upon the click event. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get this to work? Thanks in adavnce.

  I'm a computer science teacher trying to create a little gradebook for myself using NumPy. But I think it would make my code easier to write if I could create an ndarray that uses field names for both the rows and columns. Here's what I've got so far: import numpy as np num_stud = 23 num_assign = 2 grades = np.zeros(num_stud, dtype=[('assign 1','i2'), ('assign 2','i2')]) #etc gv = grades.view(dtype='i2').reshape(num_stud,num_assign) So, if my first student gets a 97 on 'assign 1', I can write either of: grades[0]['assign 1'] = 97 gv[0][0] = 97 Also, I can do the following: np.mean( grades['assign 1'] ) # class average for assignment 1 np.sum( gv[0] ) # total points for student 1 This all works. But what I can't figure out how to do is use a student id number to refer to a particular student (assume that two of my students have student ids as shown): grades['123456']['assign 2'] = 95 grades['314159']['assign 2'] = 83 ...or maybe create a second view with the different field names? np.sum( gview2['314159'] ) # total points for the student with the given id I know that I could create a dict mapping student ids to indices, but that seems fragile and crufty, and I'm hoping there's a better way than: id2i = { '123456': 0, '314159': 1 } np.sum( gv[ id2i['314159'] ] ) I'm also willing to re-architect things if there's a cleaner design. I'm new to NumPy, and I haven't written much code yet, so starting over isn't out of the question if I'm Doing It Wrong. I am going to be needing to sum all the assignment points for over a hundred students once a day, as well as run standard deviations and other stats. Plus, I'll be waiting on the results, so I'd like it to run in only a couple of seconds. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  I would like to change the style of a text field based on the value selected in a combo box. Specifically, what I'd like to do is make the txtDepartment field gray and marked as "read only" if the option value selected in cboSource is 1. I've tried the code below, but I imagine my style code at least is wrong, if not other things. Any help appreciated. • SQL Binary Microsoft Access - Combining two tables if specific field values are equal

  I am new to Microsoft Access and SQL but have a decent programming background and I believe this problem should be relatively simple. I have two tables that I have imported into Access. I will give you a little context. One table is huge and contains generic, global data. The other table is still big but contains specific, regional data. There is only one common field (or column) between the two tables. Let’s call this common field CF. The other fields in both tables are different. I’ll take you through one iteration of what I need to do. I need to take each CF value in the regional, smaller table and find the common CF value in the larger, global table. After finding the match, I need to take the whole “record” or “row” from the global data and copy it over to the corresponding record in the smaller regional table (This should involve creating the new fields). I need to do this for all CF values in the regional, smaller table. I was recommended to use SQL and a binary search, but I am unfamiliar. Let me know if you have any questions. • SQL Server find and replace in TEXT field

  I have a database in SQL Server 2005 that was brought up from SQL Server 2000 and is still using TEXT type fields instead of varchar(max). I need to find and replace a string of characters in the text field but all of the examples of how to do this that I have found don't seem like they would work for me. It seems the UPDATETEXT command requires that the two parameters "insert_offset" and "delete_length" be set explicitly but the string i am searching for could show up in the text at any point or even at several points in the same cell. My understanding of these two parameters is that the string im searching for will always be in the same place, so that insert_offset is the number of spaces into the text that the UPDATETEXT command will start replacing text. Example: Need to find: &lt;u&gt; and Replace it with: <u> Text field example: *Everyone in the room was <b>&lt;u&gt;tired&lt;/u&gt;.</b><br>Then they woke <b>&lt;u&gt;up&lt;/u&gt;. Can anyone help me out with this? THANKS!

• Reading PDF form field data from Flex 4 ( via php or coldfusion )

  Been searching web for an answer for this for a MONTH. I am not an expert in Coldfusion. So supposedly this is easy in CF -- but the mark-up confuses the HECK out of me. So here I am. I have managed to import and read a PDF using the CF Proxy for Actionscript: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/754629?tstart=0 --- BUT --- After all my trouble there, the precious form filed information that I was looking for was not there in the PDF info object. GRRRR. So I am back to looking for a way to do this with CFC's or CFM's or PHP. All I want is this: Read the PDF from a Flex app. GET the form field information. WRITE a new PDF with the form field values. I have found so many close but no cigar options ... and I have tried so many that failed. There are so many free PDF this and that out there. But Adobe seems to reserve the real functionality for themselves. All the free options don't seem to have access to the form data? Anyways I am so exhausted with looking for ways to do this. I need help!

• How do I form a Rails link_to with custom field value as parameter

  I have an invoice form where I'm giving the user opportunity to apply coupons to the invoice total. These coupons are held in another Model and I am going to do a lookup on the Coupon code (something like "20OFFONFRIDAY") which I will use to find what the restrictions and benefits of the coupon. (and to see if it even exists at all) The invoice does not have "coupon_code" on it so I hand forged the field onto my form with html: <% if (@invoice.status == 'new') %> <input id="coupon_code" name="coupon_code" type="text"/> <% end %> and I am calling a controller method with link_to and would like something like the following jquery enhanced link_to to work: <%= link_to "Apply Coupon", { :controller=>"invoices", :id=>@invoice.id, :coupon_code=>$('.coupon_code').val(), :action=>"apply_coupon_code" }, :method=>"post" %> ^formatted for easier reading Then inside my "apply_coupon_code" method I will go off to a couple other models and perform business logic before returning the updated invoice page. ...but maybe it's a pipe dream. I guess if push came to shove I could add the "coupon_code" field to my invoice model (even though it's persisted elsewhere.) so it's part of the entity and thus easily available on my form to send back into a controller, but I just hate adding a column to make a coupon validation easier. I figured I'd ping stackoverflow before taking that path.

• Setting the type of a field in a superclass from a subclass (Java)

  Hi. I am writing a project on Google App Engine, within it I have a number of abstract classes that I hope I will be able to use in my future projects, and a number of concrete classes inheriting from them. Among other abstract classes I have an abstract servlet that does user management, and I hava an abstract user. The AbstractUser has all the necessary fields and methods for storing it in the datastore and telling whether the user is registered with my service or not. It does not implement any project specific functionality. The abstract servlet that manages users, refers only to the methods declared in the AbstractUser class, which allows it to generate links for logging in, logging out and registering (for unregistered users). In order to implement the project-specific user functionality I need to subclass the Abstract user. The servlets I use in my project are all indirect descendants from that abstract user management servlet, and the user is a protected field in it, so the descendant servlets can use it as their own field. However, whenever i want to access any project specific method of the concrete user, i need to cast it to that type. i.e. (abstract user managing servlet) ... AbstractUser user = getUser(); ... abstract protected AbstractUser getUser(); (project-specific abstract servlet) @Override protected AbstractUser getUser() { return MyUserFactory.getUser(); } any other project specific servlet: int a = ((ConcreteUser) user).getA(); Well, what i'd like to do is to somehow make the type of “user” in the superclass depend on something in the project-specific abstract class. Is it at all possible? And i don't want to move all the user-management stuff into a project-specific layer, for i would like to have it for my future projects already written :) Thank you for your help.

• How to make Chrome spell check the whole text field?

  On Firefox, whenever a word is incorrect in a text field, it is underlined in red. Chrome does the same but the difference is that it underlines in red only when I move the caret over the word. So if I want to spell check the whole text field, I have to move the caret from the beginning to the end of the text field. Is it possible to make Chrome works more like Firefox and spell check the entire text field automatically?

  Hello, I am using a cluster of machines running on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS which are supposed to be homogeneous, but apparently they are not. In particular, I am configuring the X server on these machines, and I pushed a /etc/X11/XF86Config that includes the following section: Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BusID "PCI:5:0:0" EndSection The problem is that the BusID of the graphic card is PCI:5:0:0 for some machines, and PCI:3:0:0 for others. Is there a way that the X server automatically detects the appropriate Device (based on the name for instance)? Thanks,

  We have an MSSQL database in which all the primary keys are GUIDs (uniqueidentifiers). The GUIDs are produced on the client (in C#), and we are considering changing the client to generate sequential (comb) GUIDs instead of just using Guid.NewGuid(), to improve db performance. If we do this, how will this affect installations that already have data with "random" GUIDs as clustered PKs? Can anything be done (short of changing all the PK values) to rebuild the indexes to avoid further fragmentation and bad insert performance? Please give explicit and detailed answers if you can; I am a C# developer at heart and not all too familiar with all the intricacies of SQL Server. Thanks!

I have worked with computers every day since I was in elementary school (commodore 64, windows 3.1 etc.). I have IT bachelors in administrative management (so basically nothing good). I am getting another bachelor's in server admin, including about 5 certifications. I am the IT go to gal at every position usually because I know more than the IT people and have better people skills. My job history is random: office admin, hair braider, disney ride operator, camp counselor etc. I found a job I want its a entry level specialist (server) position. What do I put on a resume?

  I need to replace a package with a custom one, which gets its own name (foo-origpackage). To allow it to be used as drop-in replacement, I added the Provides: origpackage line to the control file. apt-cache show foo-origpackage lists the "Provides" entry just fine. However, when I want to install a file depending on origpackage, it fails ("Package origpackage not installed"). Is there some distinction between "real" and virtual packages I'm missing?   Structure of DB is: Org_Year(Table) ID Org_Name_ID Org_Year Ft(Table) ID Org_Year_ID Count Org_Name(Table) ID Org_Name I've created a form to input data into Ft. Form has reference to Org_name. I should be able to choose between different org first. Afterwards i want to choose which year to enter data into Ft for. I only want to be presented with a list of Years according to the entries in the Org_Year table, where org matches my selection in the dropdown above. The query to populate the select box (Org_year_Box) is: SELECT Org_Year FROM Org_Year WHERE Org_Name_ID=Organisation_Name_ID.value; I't doesn't return the Years for the given Org_id when using the above query. But if i replace "Organisation_Name_ID.value" with the actual value ie. "2" it returns the correct years. How to do?

When the download links are in large numbers then there are scroll bars. I find it difficult to scroll up and then select and then drag down to select all links.   In the SuSE /etc/crontab the entry to run the cron.{hourly,daily,monthly,weekly} scripts is coded as: -*/15 * * * * root test -x /usr/lib/cron/run-crons && /usr/lib/cron/run-crons /dev/null 2&1 Notice that the very first character of the specification is a dash character (-), and this is NOT a typo. Can somebody explain what the time spec '-*/15' means? BTW, the stuff seems to be running fine. Thanks
