I have the unordered list like: <ul id="pages"> <li class="something"><a href="#"></a></li> <li class="something"><a href="#"></a></li> <li class="something"><a href="#"></a></li> </ul> And I'd like to add a different ID to every li displayed in this <ul> (eg. <li class="something" id="li1">...).   I need the very last valid entry in a database table which would be the row with the greatest primary key. So using mysqli, my query is "SELECT MAX(id) FROM table LIMIT 1". This query returns the correct number(using print_r()) but I cannot figure out how to access it. Here is the main code.   I'm following the Kevin Skoglund tutorial Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training, which was written for rails 3.0, though I am currently using 3.2. It uses the following method in the pages_controller with a before_filter to display only the pages which belong to the parent subject. The tutorial explicitly uses .find_by_id because if the result is nil it "will not return an error". However I get the "Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id" error when trying to view a page where @subject has been set to nil. def find_subject if params[:subject_id] @subject = Subject.find_by_id(params[:subject_id]) end end The actual code that is causing the error is: def list @pages = Page.order("pages.position ASC").where(:subject_id => @subject.id) end Is this something that has changed since 3.0? If so, what would be the correct way to implement this functionality in 3.2?

• Clustered index dilemma - ID or sort?

  I have a table with two very important fields: id INT identity(1,1) PRIMARY KEY identifiersortcode VARCHAR(900) My app always sorts and pages search results in the UI based on identifiersortcode, but all table joins (and they are legion) are on the id field. (Aside: yes, the sort code really is that long. There's a strong BL reason.) Also, due to O/RM use, most SELECT statements are going to pull almost every column. Currently, the clustered index is on id, but I'm wondering if the TOP / ORDER BY portion of most queries would make identifiersortcode a more attractive option as the clustered key, even considering all of the table joins going on. Inserts on the table and changes to the identifiersortcode are limited enough that changing my clustered index would be a problem for insert/update operations. Trying to make the sort code's non-clustered index a covering index (using INCLUDE) is not a good option. There are a number of large columns, and some of them have a lot of update activity.

  Hi, I have a enterprise application converted from VS2003 to vs2005 . The converted application, in one page i do edit and save i am getting this error. 'Multiple controls with the same ID 'hidWIPID0' were found But the same work fine in the code of vs2003 version without any error. Its a huge application with dynamic master pages and usercontrols etc..So i cant paste the exact code here.   Hey, I am working with a cluster system over linux (www.mosix.org) that allows me to run jobs and have the system run them on different computers. Jobs are run like so: mosrun ls & This will naturally create the process and run it on the background, returning the process id, like so: [1] 29199 Later it will return. I am writing a Python infrastructure that would run jobs and control them. For that I want to run jobs using the mosrun program as above, and save the process ID of the spawned process (29199 in this case). This naturally cannot be done using os.system or commands.getoutput, as the printed ID is not what the process prints to output... Any clues? Edit: Since the python script is only meant to initially run the script, the scripts need to run longer than the python shell. I guess it means the mosrun process cannot be the script's "son process". Any suggestions? Thanks

  I realize having two elements in the same html doc with the same ID is wrong, bad, immoral, and will lead to global warming. But... I'm trying to write an XSS widgit, so I really have no control over the quality of the parent web page. I loop through document.images to retrieve a list of images on the page. I perform an action on each one. for(img in document.images){ ... } i've also tried for(var i=0;i<document.images.length;i++){ ... } in both cases it allows me to loop through all of the elements, BUT when trying trying to reference an object with a duplicate ID, I always get the first (in order of the html). When using debugger in IE8 i'm able to see that both elements ARE listed, but that they both have the same index (in IE the index of the document.images is either sequential or matches the image ID) Does anyone have a better solution?

In "members" table, i have "id" as the primary key and "username" as a unique field. Now my situation is: When flash want to display a member's profile. Other than controls (e.g ), is there anything this error refers to? Or is there a workaround? I have checked I am editing the right files. On the face of it this appears to be a visual studio bug, but I want to be sure.

  I'm auto-generating a form in my ASP.NET page. This is already tested and working. I want to know if: If there are any security problems with storing the database ID as part of my controls ID? I can see think of 2 issues: the id will be visible in page source (not really important in this case), and the possibility someone could change the name of the control somehow? This second possibility is more serious. Is this a potential problem and how to void it? If there would be a better preferred way to associate a unique data with any type of control? Is it possible to store a custom item in the viewstate for the control?

  I am attempting to loop through an array of numbers, match them to the checkbox they they are associated with, and checkmark that box. My checkbox is set up like: <input type="checkbox" runat="server" id="someID" name="somename" value="1234" /> My code when the page loads currently looks like: foreach (string interest in interests_Var){ foreach (var c in Page.Controls) { } } interests_Var is my array containing different numbers. We'll assume one of them is 1234. While looping through the page controls, I want to compare the value of the control to my number. If it equals my number, I want to then apply the attribute checked="checked". I'm assuming I have to find the ID of the control I am using, then use that ID to add a new attribute. Or is there a way I can add the attribute using the c variable? I'm not dead set on this setup, so if you know a better way, I'm all ears. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

• Android/ORMLite Insert Row with ID

  I'm currently using ORMLite to work with a SQLite database on Android. As part of this I am downloading a bunch of data from a backend server and I'd like to have this data added to the SQLite database in the exact same format it is on the backend server (ie the IDs are the same, etc). So, my question to you is if I populate my database entry object (we'll call it Equipment), including Equipment's generatedId/primary key field via setId(), and I then run a DAO.create() with that Equipment entry will that ID be saved correctly? I tried it this way and it seems to me that this was not the case. If that is the case I will try again and look for other problems, but with the first few passes over the code I was not able to find one. So essentially, if I call DAO.create() on a database object with an ID set will that ID be sent to the database and if it is not, how can I insert a row with a primary key value already filled out?   I am using the ToolkitScriptManager from the Ajax tool kit and I am having a problem finding my button's ID. My ID's on my controls come back with $ symbols instead of _ symbols, like the following: Grid$ctl06$insertButton This obviously causes problems when attempting to find the control from the Page.Request.Form keys. I cannot seem to find the determining factor that would cause this. Now, I know this is the name and in my source I see that the ID is with the _, so why is the Page.Request.Form showing up with the $ symbol instead? Anybody encounter this before?
