  • Generate multiple graphics from within an R function

    - by William Doane
    I'd like to spawn several graphics windows from within a function in R using ggplot graphics... testf <- function(a, b) { devAskNewPage(TRUE) qplot(a, b); # grid.newpage(recording = TRUE) dev.new() qplot(a, a+a); # grid.newpage(recording = TRUE) dev.new() qplot(b, b+b); } library(ggplot2) x <- rnorm(50) y <- rnorm(50) testf(x, y) However, neither dev.new() nor grid.newpage() seems to flush the preceding plot. I know that, in R, functions normally only produce the last thing they evaluate, but I'd like to understand the process better and to learn of any possible workarounds. Thoughts?

  • Setting marker title in Google Maps API 3 using jQuery

    - by bateman_ap
Hi, I am having a couple of problems with Google Maps and jQuery. Wondered if anyone can help with the smaller of the two problems and hopefully it will help me to fixing the bigger one. I am using the below code to populate a google map, basically it uses generated HTML to populate the maps in the form: <div class="item mapSearch" id="map52.48228_-1.9026:800"> <div class="box-prise"><p>(0.62km away)</p><div class="btn-book-now"> <a href="/venue/800.htm">BOOK NOW</a> </div> </div><img src="http://media.toptable.com/images/thumb/13152.jpg" alt="Metro Bar and Grill" width="60" height="60" /> <div class="info"> <h2><a href="/venue/800.htm">Metro Bar and Grill</a></h2> <p class="address">73 Cornwall Street, Birmingham, B3 2DF</p><strong class="proposal">2 courses £14.50</strong> <dl> <dt>Diner Rating: </dt> <dd>7.8</dd> </dl></div></div> <div class="item mapSearch" id="map52.4754_-1.8999:3195"> <div class="box-prise"><p>(0.97km away)</p><div class="btn-book-now"> <a href="/venue/3195.htm">BOOK NOW</a> </div> </div><img src="http://media.toptable.com/images/thumb/34998.jpg" alt="Filini Restaurant - Birmingham" width="60" height="60" /> <div class="info"> <h2><a href="/venue/3195.htm">Filini Restaurant - Birmingham</a></h2> <p class="address">Radisson Blu Hotel, 12 Holloway Circus, Queensway, Birmingham, B1 1BT</p><strong class="proposal">2 for 1: main courses </strong> <dl> <dt>Diner Rating: </dt> <dd>7.8</dd> </dl></div></div> <div class="item mapSearch" id="map52.47775_-1.90619:10657"> <div class="box-prise"><p>(1.05km away)</p><div class="btn-book-now"> <a href="/venue/10657.htm">BOOK NOW</a> </div> </div><img src="http://media.toptable.com/images/thumb/34963.jpg" alt="B1 " width="60" height="60" /> <div class="info"> <h2><a href="/venue/10657.htm">B1 </a></h2> <p class="address">Central Square , Birmingham, B1 1HH</p><strong class="proposal">25% off food</strong> <dl> <dt>Diner Rating: </dt> <dd>7.9</dd> </dl></div></div> The JavaScript loops though all the divs with class mapSearch and uses this to plot markers using the div ID to get the lat/lon and ID of the venue: var locations = $(".mapSearch"); for (var i=0;i<locations.length;i++) { var id = locations[i].id; if (id) { var jsLonLat = id.substring(3).split(":")[0]; var jsId = id.substring(3).split(":")[1]; var jsLat = jsLonLat.split("_")[0]; var jsLon = jsLonLat.split("_")[1]; var jsName = $("h2").text(); var jsAddress = $("p.address").text(); var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(jsLat,jsLon); var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ position: latlng, map:map, icon: greenRestaurantImage, title: jsName }); google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() { //Check to see if info window already exists if (!infowindow) { //if doesn't exist then create a empty InfoWindow object infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow(); } //Set the content of InfoWindow infowindow.setContent(jsAddress); //Tie the InfoWindow to the market infowindow.open(map, marker); }); bounds.extend(latlng); map.fitBounds(bounds); } } The markers all plot OK on the map, however I am having probs with the infoWindow bit. I want to display info about each venue when clicked, however using my code above it just puts all info in one box when clicked, not individually. Hoping it is a simple fix! Hoping once I fix this I can work out a way to get the info window displaying if I hover over the div in the html.

  • How can I calculate data for a boxplot (quartiles, median) in a Rails app on Heroku? (Heroku uses Po

    - by hadees
I'm trying to calculate the data needed to generate a box plot which means I need to figure out the 1st and 3rd Quartiles along with the median. I have found some solutions for doing it in Postgresql however they seem to depend on either PL/Python or PL/R which it seems like Heroku does not have either enabled for their postgresql databases. In fact I ran "select lanname from pg_language;" and only got back "internal". I also found some code to do it in pure ruby but that seems somewhat inefficient to me. I'm rather new to Box Plots, Postgresql, and Ruby on Rails so I'm open to suggestions on how I should handle this. There is a possibility to have a lot of data which is why I'm concerned with performance however if the solution ends up being too complex I may just do it in ruby and if my application gets big enough to warrant it get my own Postgresql I can host somewhere else. *note: since I was only able to post one link, cause I'm new, I decided to share a pastie with some relevant information

  • What exactly does raw microphone data represent?

    - by esperantist
I'm using PyAudio, a PortAudio wrapper for Python. I'm getting data from a microphone. Data which is represented by a continuous stream of bytes divided into chunks (of a size determined by me). I've tried to plot the signal, assuming the bytes represent the current signal amplitude, but I get an interesting image that I can't easily describe. ^^ It seems to be composed of two waves, one shifted from the other. What exactly do the particular bytes represent, and how does this change when I'm recording only one channel, instead of two? Any explanations, suggestions, code snippets, anything, very welcome! (I'm new at this.) Thanks!

  • Audio processing in C# or C++

    - by melculetz
Hi, I would like to create an application that uses AI techniques and allows the user to record a part of a song and then tries to find that song in a database of wav files. I would have liked to use some already existing libraries for the audio processing part. So, could you recommend any libraries in C# which can read a wav file, get input from microphone, have some audio filters (low pass, high pass, FFT etc) and maybe have the ability to plot the audio signal as well. I would prefer to develop in C#, but if there aren't good libraries for audio processing, I guess I could work in C++ as well. As far as I know, Mathlab already has the above mentioned functionalities, but I can't use it in my application.

  • memory problem with metapost

    - by yCalleecharan
Hi, I'm using gnuplot to plot a graph to the mp format and then I'm converting it to eps via the command: mpost --sprologues=3 -soutputtemplate=\"%j-%c.eps\" myfigu.mp But I don't get the eps output; instead I get this message: This is MetaPost, version 1.208 (kpathsea version 3.5.7dev) (mem=mpost 2009.12.12) 6 MAY 2010 23:16 **myfigu.mp (./myfigu.mp ! How do I tweak in order to get more memory. The file from which I'm plotting has two columns of 189,200 values each. These values are of type long double (output from a C program). The text file containing these two column values is about 6 MB. Thanks a lot...

  • Extract co-ordinates from a vector of co-ordinates and save to file

    - by barsil sil
I have a vector which contains a list co-ordinates ...x1,y1 ; x2,y2....xn,yn I am trying to extract each individual element which is a co-ordinate and then save them to file as a nice delineated co-ord pair which can be easily read. Or what would be nice i to save them so I can plot something in excel e.t.c (as cols of x and y values). My original vector size is 31, and was originally constructed as vector<vector<Point> > myvector( previous vector.size() ); Thanks !

  • A compiler for automata theory

    - by saadtaame
I'm designing a programming language for automata theory. My goal is to allow programmers to use machines (DFA, NFA, etc...) as units in expressions. I'm confused whether the language should be compiled, interpreted, or jit-compiled! My intuition is that compilation is a good choice, for some operations might take too much time (converting NFA's to equivalent DFA's can be expensive). Translating to x86 seems good. There is one issue however: I want the user to be able to plot machines. Any ideas?

How do i go about adding Chaco to an existing PyQt4 application? Hours of searches yielded little (search for yourself). So far i've figured i need the following lines: import os os.environ['ETS_TOOLKIT']='qt4' i could not find PyQt4-Chaco code anywhere on the internets i would be very grateful to anyone filling in the blanks to show me the simplest line plot possible (with 2 points) from PyQt4 import QtCore, QtGui import sys import os os.environ['ETS_TOOLKIT']='qt4' from enthought <blanks> : : app = QtGui.QApplication(sys.argv) main_window = QtGui.QMainWindow() main_window.setCentralWidget(<blanks>) main_window.show() app.exec_() print('bye') what Chaco/Enthought class inherits from QWidget ?

  • Mysql advanced SELECT, or multiple SELECTS? Movies keywords

    - by Supyxy
I have a mysql database with movies as follows: MOVIES(id,title) KEYWORDS_TABLE(id,key_id) [id is referenced to movies.id, key_id is refernced to keywords.id] KEYWORDS(id,keyword) //this doesn't matter on my example.. Basically i have movies with their titles and plot keywords for each one, i want to select all movies that have the same keywords with with a given movie id. I tried something like: SELECT key_id FROM keywords_table WHERE id=9 doing that in php and storing all the IDs in an array $key_id.. then i build another select that looks like: SELECT movies.title FROM movies,keywords_table WHERE keywords_table.key_id=$key_id[1] OR keywords_table.key_id=$key_id[2] OR ......... OR keywords_table.key_id=$key_id[n] This kinda works but it takes too much time as we talk about a database with thousands of thousands of records. So, any suggestions?? thanks!

  • Text not showing up in custom pushpins? Is there a way?

    - by Shakeeb Ahmad
    This is the code I am using to plot my custom pushpins on Bing Maps. I can't get the text to print on the pushpin icon which is just the default pushpin but in a different color. Is it even possible like this? Is there another way? I can't seem to find any, Help! var pushpinOptions = {icon: '/assets/greenpin.png', visible: true}; var pushpin = new Microsoft.Maps.Pushpin(new Microsoft.Maps.Location(lat, lng), pushpinOptions, {text: alphas[i] });

  • Changeing scaling of Matlab Figure

    - by Phil
Hi, I have a figure that displays 20.000 points on the x-axis. So it labels the x-axis from 0 .. 20.000. However, now I would like to scale it form 0 to 50. But when I try to do this in the plot window it just shows me the first 50 points, instead of changeing the scale. Is there any straightforward way to do that in Matlab? Many thanks for your help!

  • How can I use splne() with ggplot?

    - by David
I would like to fit my data using spline(y~x) but all of the examples that I can find use a spline with smoothing, e.g. lm(y~ns(x), df=_). I want to use spline() specifically because I am using this to do the analysis represented by the plot that I am making. Is there a simple way to use spline() in ggplot? I have considered the hackish approach of fitting a line using geom_smooth(aes(x=(spline(y~x)$x, y=spline(y~x)$y)) but I would prefer not to have to resort to this. Thanks!

  • Plotting Points in Java with Interaction

    - by mellort
I have a large number of data points which are two dimensional coordinates with non-integer values (floats). I am looking for a Java library that can help me plot these points, allowing for custom point size, color, and labels. Further, I would like the user to be able to interact with the points with panning and zooming, and I want to be able to capture KeyEvents from the user. Processing looks great for what I want, but I don't want to do everything from scratch. Is there a better solution? Thanks in advance.

  • HOw to Extract image pixels and perform computation on it

    - by gavishna
What i want to do is extract the pixels into array A(i,j).Let A(i,j) represent the pixel in the ith row & jth colm of the image. Let B(i,j) be the transformed array containing bits such that B(i,j) = 1 if (A(i,j)/2^t) mod 2 =1, where t=0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 = 0 otherwise Then the array B(i,j) will be mutliplied by another array say C(i,j) representing another image. Then i want to plot the result of B*C as an image. How do i take in the pixels for the above conditions for both gray and RGB color format. Also how do i solve the above problem.Any helo will be usefull because i am not an expert in image processing.

  • How can I load an MP3 or similar music file for display and analysis in wxWidgets?

    - by Jon Cage
I'm developing a GUI in wxPython which allows a user to generate sequences of colours for some toys I'm building. Part of the program needs to load an MP3 (and potentially other formats further down the line) and display it to the user. That should be sufficient to get started but later I'd like to add features like identifying beats and some crude frequency analysis. Is there any simple way of loading / understanding an MP3's contents to display a plot of its amplitudes to the screen using wxWidgets? I later intend to port to C++/wxWidgets for speed and to avoid having to distribute wxPython.

  • Plotting 500 US cities to a map

    - by sqlman
I have 500 US cities in a MySQL table. I have the city name, state, longitude and latitude. I want to visually see these cities plotted on a map of the US. How can I do this? Are they any free tools available? Google Maps or Google Earth maybe? Obviously, it would take forever to plot each city individually. So I need a quick way of doing it, either through a program or by exporting the table as a spreadsheet and uploading it into some kind of generator that will do the plotting for me. Please let me know your ideas. Thanks.

  • Matlab time stamps reading

    - by Paul
Any easy way to read all the columns in Matlab? my format is date time y1 y2 y3 y4 ......................... 4/27/2010 00:3:09 34 45 45 56 ................ so on currently i am reading these with the code [c,pathc]=uigetfile({'*.txt'},'Select the data','C:\Data'); file=[pathc c]; data= dlmread(file, ',', 1,3); so needless to say i am skipping the time stamps. Was wondering if there is aeasy way to read the time stamps and plot my other colums agianst the time in hours. my files are 43200 X 30 and some are 86400 X 90 Related question : is the format same for .csv and .xls files , i mean except ofcourse xlsread

  • Question about [literally] mapping location based on an IP address.

    - by Andrew
I've been bored lately and I want to start a new project. I was looking at a website mentioned in a different question (http://www.grapevinegame.com/), and I thought the map and how it plots a point based on someone's IP (I assume) is pretty nifty. I want to do something like that, but I have no idea how it's done. I know you can get latitude and longitude, city and state, and some more with some already-written scripts, but how would you plot those on a map of the world? I've seen it other places, like Google Analytics and such, as well. It seems like a neat thing to be able to do, so I was just wondering how exactly it works. :-p.

  • matlab: how to transform screen pixels into specific coordinates

    - by user3137385
I have to draw a curve captured on a image using screen pixels (mouse clicks) into a coordinate system. E.g.: Pixels on the screen, from left to right (130 px to 970 px) correspond to the x-axis of my coordinate system (1000 to 6000). Pixels from bottom to top (670 to 99) correspond to the y-axis of coordinate system (0 to 1.2). How can this be done? Maybe there's a function in matlab doing something like that? Some more explanation: I have a jpg image of a curve on a coordinate system. I've got pixel positions (x,y) of several points on that curve. Now I want to plot same curve into a matlab figure with same x and y axis as on the jpg image.

  • Google Maps: Multimarker not working

    - by HyperDevil
Hi, I want to plot several markers on my map. Found some code on the internet, for that user it worked. The array is generated by PHP, example: var ships = [['61','10.2']['60.5','10.1']]; My Javascript: var map; function load(ships) { initialize(); createShips(ships); } function initialize() { //build the map var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(63.65,10.65); var myOptions = { zoom: 9, center: myLatlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.TERRAIN } var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); } function createShips(ships) { for (var i = 0; i < ships.length; i++) { new google.maps.Marker({ position: new google.maps.LatLng(ships[i][0], ships[i][1]), map: map, title: ships[i][0] }); } } My html function to start the map is: body onload="load()" The map seems to appear, but no markers :(

  • MATLAB: Can axes tick labels be accesed as text objects?

    - by yuk
I'm curious is it possible to change text properties of tick labels independently of axes properties. Do they have handles? I'd like to control their position better, alignment, color, fonts, etc. I know I can substitute them with text labels, but it has some drawbacks. Any alternative solutions? Particularly, is it possible to put xticklabels between ticks, that are irregular? plot(1:100) set(gca,'xtick',[30 45 53 70 95]) grid on I need to put xticklabels in the middle between grids.
