• How do I connect Ubuntu to Sony Bravia LED TV via HDMI?

  My laptop connects to 46" Sony Bravia LED TV using HDMI cable in Windows without any problem. However, it just doesn't work with Ubuntu 12.04. It always says No Signal. Problem somewhat persists after upgrading to 13.04. Bravia detects my laptop as a connection now but I am unable to display anything. What drivers/applications should I install to connect via HDMI? • TDC: The Developer's Conference Day One

  The Developer's Conference (TDC) kicked off Wednesday in São Paulo, Brazil. With over 3000 developers in attendance over five days, it is the premier multi-community developer conference in Brazil, organized by Globalcode. Yara Senger, one of the organizers said, "We like to say multi-community rather than multi-technology because it is interesting and benefical when various communities get together. They learn so much from each other!" TDC includes tracks on Java and several other technologies, including SOA, Python, Ruby, mobile and digital TV. In the mobile track, developers who create a Java ME app will get a Nokia S40 phone!New this year at TDC is the Java University track, sponsored by Oracle.  It is aimed at university students and professionals who are new to Java. The lectures are introductory level, with an educational focus and practical exercises. The Java track and other tracks, such as SOA, mobile and Digital TV, are getting lots of help from the expertise of Brazilian JUGS members. Thanks to GoJava, JavaBahia, JavaNoroeste and SouJava!Carlos Fernando, one of the coordinators on the Digital TV track, said "My goal is to teach developers the basics of digital TV, and show them the tools used to build interactive TV applications." Fernando explained the concept of "the second screen:" that many people watch TV and have second smart device (tablet or smartphone) with them, and this creates many opportunities for developers. For example, while watching TV, a viewer can get extra content (interviews, behind the scenes) on their tablet. More interestingly, while watching their favorite TV show a viewer likes an outfit one of the actors is wearing, their smartphone can tell them where they can buy it nearby, or they can order it online immediately. Fernando exclaimed, "The opportunities for developers are nearly infinite in the area of digital TV!" At the TDC opening keynote, Debora Palermo, Oracle University country manager for Brazil, reminded attendees that Java is present in many devices, from simple to complex, and knowledge of this platform can open many doors in the labor market. She explained Oracle's Workforce Development Program (WDP), managed by Oracle University, which allows educational institutions to deliver Oracle training. WDP allows for easy and low-cost access to Oracle training in local communities across the world. "Oracle University is committed to creating the next generation of Java developers, and WDP can make that happen," Palermo said. As of March 2012, Oracle University is partnering with Globalcode to offer WDP. Students can earn official Oracle Course Certifications, a great way to learn Java.Brazilian developers that cannot attend TDC can watch live streaming.

• How can I to take an HDMI TV broadcast and overlay text in real time?

  Our company wants to be able to have LCD TVs displaying TV with the ability to add an overlay, like a stock ticker at the bottom of the screen, where human resources can add content to be displayed. I have been trying to nail down the correct terminology for this and come across terms like Keying, Compositing, Live Broadcast Graphics Presentation, and Hardware Overlay but I don't know which of these terms is truly the correct way to refer to what I am trying to do. Black Magic offers a product that seems like it can do what I am looking for but their product seems like it is geared for a totally different purpose than what I would be using it for. Compix also seems to have a product that would do what I need but again it seems like killing a fly with a sledge hammer. How can I to take an HDMI TV broadcast and overlay arbitrary content in real time?

  My guess is this is on here somewhere but I have searched and even tried looking at bunch of other similar video problems. My ATI 9550 shows up as laptop in displays after update to Ubuntu 12.04, how do I fix this? I found the following command on another post sudo lshw -c video. This doesn't look to me like a laptop video would list? I also see this command xrandr, it reports this: xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1024 default connected 1280x1024+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1280x1024 0.0* 1024x768 0.0 800x600 0.0 640x480 0.0 This is what shows in displays for resolutions but only the 1280x1024 works the others produce tearing in the video. Also I should have mentioned 3D mode does not work. I have tried ATI/AMD drivers the new one won't load and older ones won't work. I found out the newer driver no longer supports the 9550.

• Can no longer duplicate display to external monitor on Windows 7

  We have a large TV at work - I connect my laptop to it to share my screen during meetings. Until today, my laptop display has been duplicating to the TV automatically when I connect the TV cable to the laptop. The display resolution would decrease automatically to be compatible with the TV. Today, however, it's stopped working. When I connect the cable to the TV, the display extends rather than duplicating. Using the Win+P key combination (or Fn+F7 on my Lenovo laptop), I can choose to duplicate the display - but when I do this, it ends up only displaying on the laptop. I can get it to display on the TV by hitting Win+P and choosing "projector only", but then I can't see what I'm doing on the laptop screen. I have a Lenovo W520 laptop running Windows 7, connected to the TV using a DisplayPort-to-HDMI converter cable. The TV's native resolution is 1280x720; the laptop's native resolution is 1600x900. I've tried booting with the TV cable already connected; I've tried manually lowering the display resolution on the laptop to 1280x720 before duplicating the display. Neither works. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

• How to fix? Gnome-shell shows up and instantly stop working

  I am using ubuntu 12.04, but I love gnome shell, but not the Gnome Classic which comes installed. When I reinstalled, I instantly installed Gnome-shell by terminal using Unity, it worked for a while and then I started installing some extensions. I rebooted and it just stopped working, it shows up for a second, then I can only see my desktop with icons but without panels and I can't even use the terminal (CTRL + ALT + T) since the window doesn't really select when I click it. How could I fix this? I tried reinstalling Gnome-shell and all the stuff I installed for it, but now it doesn't work even without any extension.

• My domain PageRank shows as unavailable, why is that?

  My domain, http://www.anovaordemmundial.com , has been snatched by some opportunist when I failed to renew the domain. I know, it's all my fault :/ . After I have being ripped off and bought my domain back, and everything is configured and working, the pagerank for that domain shows as unavailable. Also searches for "nova ordem mundial" (in portuguese), which used to show my domain as the first result in searches in any language, now don't show it anymore. Do you think this is something temporary and it will recover its pagerank after a full crawl by google? There exists hundreds of sites pointing to my domain, that is why I got the previous relevance in searches. The domain is back for more than 5 days already. In reality, bing already Is there anything I can do to help get my domain back to its pagerank??? Thanks for the help!

• U1 music shows unknown artist, how can I make it recognize m4a files?

  Hello all, I am in the process of uploading my music library as a backup to U1, but I figured, why not also enjoy Ubuntu 1 music on my iPhone? With a few difficulties to start, the upload is now in progress, but I've noticed that there is a huge percentage of files in the unknown artist folder, and I believe it is all of my m4a files. They play fine, but without any information. Coming from an iTunes background, and having bought the majority of my music on the iTunes store, I wonder how I could make this work, easily? I am on Maverick (afaik), but About Ubuntu shows 11.04. I use Banshee as my music manager, and I monitor my sync using Ubuntu one preferences, ubuntuone-indicator and magicicada. The total file size of my music folder is 38.9GB. Thank you for your help!! And apologies if I couldn't find a thread where this was already covered...

  I have a LG smart Tv with browser. I need the tv browser to connect to a uk based proxy server on port 808. Unfortunately there is no option within tv to setup proxy for its browser. Now the Tv connects via a wireless connection to the internet. IE: TV <- D-Link DIR-605L <- ADSL <- WWW. Is it possible to setup this wireless router to connect the TV to the Proxy ?? If so ? where ? and what setings do i need to change in the wireless router ?? In short my question is ? How do i get the wireless router to make up for the lack of proxy connectivity within my Tv browser ?? • Multiple IP addresses to one NIC, but advanced IP settings window only shows one?

  The ipconfig of my Windows Server 2003 server shows that the IP addresses 10.0.0.3, 10.0.0.11, and 10.0.0.12 are assigned to it. However, when I look in the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window for that connection, I only see the IP address of 10.0.0.3 listed there. In the Support tab for the connection, it shows that it's connected through 10.0.0.12, and in the Support Details window, it shows all the previously mentioned IP addresses. Where are these phantom IP addresses being stored and how can I free them up so I don't have any IP conflicts?

  I have one analog monitor connected through dvi adapter one digital monitor connected through dvi tv connected through hdmi I'm unable to run all 3 at the same time, when I try to extend desktop it asks me to disable one of the monitors so I can only have 2 at one time. I tried finding solution but according to some forums I should be able to achieve it since one is analog I should be able to run 3 outputs with hdmi that way. Does any one have any suggestions? • Are You Afraid of Each Other? Study Shows CMO’s/CIO’s Missing Benefits of Collaboration

  Remember that person in school you spent months being too scared to talk to?  Then when you finally did, it led to a wonderful friendship…if not something more. New research from Oracle, Social Media Today and Leader Networks shows marketing and IT need to get over whatever’s holding them back and start reaping the benefits of collaboration. Back in the old days of just a few years ago, marketing could stay on their side of the building, IT could stay on their side of the building, and both could refer to the other as “those guys.” Today, the structure of organizations is shifting from islands to “us,” one integrated body where each part knows what the other parts are doing, and all parts work together in accomplishing job one…a winning customer experience. Ignore that, and you start losing. Give your reluctance to change priority over the benefits of new collaborations, and you start losing. You’re either working together and accelerating forward or getting in the way of each other’s separate agendas and grinding down…much to your competitors’ delight. The study reveals a basic current truth: those who are collaborating in marketing and IT report being more effective, however less than 1/3 report collaborating even “frequently.” In other words, this is obviously a good thing, so we’d better not do it. Smart. The white paper, “Socially Driven Collaboration,” set out to explore how today’s always-changing digital, social and mobile landscape is forcing change across the enterprise, whether it’s welcomed or not. Part of what it found is marketing and IT leaders are not unaware of what’s going on and see their roles evolving. And both know the ability to collaborate more effectively now exists. And of those who are collaborating, over 2/3 say they’re “more effective” professionally because of it. Yet even if you don’t want to take the Oracle study’s word for it, an August 2013 Accenture study of 400 senior marketing and 250 IT executives revealed only 10% think CMO/CIO collaboration is at the right level. There’s a lot of room for improvement here, and not just around people. Collaboration is also being called for across processes and technologies. Business benefits of such collaboration cited in the Oracle study include stronger marketing messages, faster speed-to-market, greater product adoption, faster discovery of product and service shortcomings, and reduction in project costs. • external USB HD doesn't show up on 'sudo fdisk -l' on one Ubuntu, shows up on another (both 'precise')

  I have a 1.5TB WD external USB HDD and two Ubuntu systems, both 'precise'. When I plug the disk on system A it doesn't show up on the output of sudo fdisk -l nor is it automatically mounted (note that that wasn't always the case - it used to appear in the past). When I plug it on system B (again Ubuntu precise) it shows up when I do a sudo fdisk -l (output appended at the end) and mounts automatically just fine. What does this discrepancy point to and what kind of diagnostics should I run / tools I should use to troubleshoot the problem? • How to make Windows 7 use the internet connection that I specify

  I have a LAN adapter and a USB wireless internet connection. When both connected windows 7 always uses the USB. I tried changing the metric values but no luck. Let me explains the steps I took. Currently automatic metric on all adapters. LAN connected. ipconfig shows that it is connected to the correct ip/dns/gateway etc. IPv4 Route table shows Metric 24 Then connected USB. ipconfig shows USB connectivity then LAN in that order. Internet is now through USB. IPv4 Route table shows Metric 4249 for LAN and USB is 41. Gateway for USB shows "on-link". netstat -rn shows USBDEVICE on top. Changed LAN metric to 5 and now the route table shows LAN as 9 (not sure why it added 4) and USB as 41. netstat shows LAN then USB. ipconfig shows LAN then USB. But still connection is through USB. How do I know? Task manager shows utilization only through USB as well as speed is showing around 1mbps rather than LANs 10mbps. How can I get win7 use LAN while USB is connected. I am just trying to use USB as a backup just in case I lose LAN connection. Please help!! I thought i will make USB metric manually to say 10. But it says I have to reconnect for it to be effective. Currently USB still shows below LAN and still has 9 and 41 in the table. Disconnected USB. Table shows LAN metric as 24 (Not sure why it got changed from 9 and setting got reverted by to automatic) Reconnected USB. Now in the setting still shows 10 and the route table shows 11 for USB and LAN shows 4249 (settings shows 4245, 4 less)) For some reason restarting USB is resetting LAN setting when reconnected.
