Click on the Files Exchanged tab to search for specific attachments. Quickly search links exchanged with your contacts. Hover over a link to get a preview of what it entails. It gives you the ability to index all of your Yahoo mail as well, without the need for purchasing Yahoo Plus! Then your Yahoo messages appear in the Xobni sidebar. However, we did notice it would sometimes slow down launching Outlook, especially if other apps are running at the same time. Product Support When you buy a license for Xobni Plus you get a full year of premium tech support. They provide a Questions and Answers page on their site where you can run a search query and answers appear instantly. You can contact support directly as a Plus member through their web form and they advise the turn around time is 2 business days. However, when we tested it, we received a response within 24 hours. They also provide FAQ, Community forum, and you can download the Owners Manual in PDF format from the support page. Conclusion Xobni Plus is a very powerful addin for Outlook and includes a lot more features that we didn’t cover in this review. You can download Xobni free edition which includes an 8 day free trial of the Plus version. This provides a good way to start getting familiar with it. Then upgrade to Xobni Plus at any time for $29.95. Once you get started, you’ll find the sidebar is nicely laid out and intuitive to use. • Is YQL still used?

  A few years ago, following the explosion of custom web APIs from various services around the world, Yahoo! launched the YQL service, which allows to query data from a variety of different providers with a unified Yahoo Query Language. Having worked with the APIs of Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google Maps, YouTube and more, I very much enjoy the idea. However, I do not see it mentioned often, and of course this is one of those efforts that makes sense when enough people follow it and expose their API through this layer. Are there some statitics of usage? Or some declarations from Yahoo about the destiny of YQL? I would also be interested in hearing your experience if you have tried it directly.

• HTML Presence Controls for Communications Server 14 CodePlex Project

  Showing Presence on the Web If youre running Office Communicator Server 2007 R2, you know that your only out-of-the-box option for showing presence on the web is to use the NameControl ActiveX control that ships as part of Office.  Being an ActiveX control, this obviously means that youre limited to Internet Explorer.  Also, nobody likes ActiveX controls What if you want to show the presence of users in a pure ASP.NET or HTML application and cant assume that the user has Communicator installed you need anASP.NET or HTML presence control.  HTML Presence Controls for Microsoft Communications Server 14 We recently worked with the UC team at Microsoft on a keynote demo for TechEd 2010 in New Orleans.  The demo was for a fictitious airline Fabrikam Airlines that wanted to show the presence of customer service and reservations agents on its website.  Customers could also start an instant message conversation with the agents using a Silverlight web chat window that used WCF to communicate with the backend UCMA application. We built HTML Presence Controls that use AJAX to poll a REST-based WCF service running in IIS and hosting a UCMA 3.0 presence subscription application.   Microsoft has graciously allowed us to publish these on CodePlex so that the development community can benefit from them:  http://htmlpresencecontrols.codeplex.com/ We will be maintaining the CodePlex project as new builds of UCMA 3.0 become available.  Check out the project home page on CodePlex for some more in-depth details on how the controls are implemented. ASP.NET Server Control Implementation Were providing an ASP.NET Server Control implementation that you can use stand-alone or in a GridView or Repeater (or other layout control).  The control has properties that allow you to control its appearance, e.g. you can choose whether or not to show the contacts name or availability text. You can also use the server control in a layout control such as a GridView by putting it in a TemplateColumn and binding to the Sip Uri in the data source. Disclaimer Once we started working on these, we realized why Microsoft hasnt shipped such controls as part of the product.  There are some tradeoffs you have to be aware of when using these controls, heres the high level. Privacy The backend UCMA 3.0 application that subscribes to presence of contacts runs as a trusted application and can thus retrieve the presence of any user in the organization.  Theres currently no good way in UCMA to apply any privacy rules to ensure that the consumer of the presence controls has permission to see the presence of the contacts that the controls are bound to.  Just to be absolutely crystal clear These controls provide a way to query the presence of any user in the organization, regardless of the privacy relationship between the person consuming the controls and the contacts whose presence is being displayed. Were exploring options for a design pattern that would allow you to inject some privacy controls.  Keep in mind though that you would most likely be responsible for implementing this logic, as there is currently no functionality in UCMA that allows you to do that. Polling the WCF REST Service The controls poll the backend WCF service to retrieve the presence of contacts - you can control the refresh interval so that they poll less often. We implemented a caching layer so that the WCF service is always communicating with a presence cache it never communicates directly with Communications Server.  For example, if your web page is showing the presence of sip:[email protected] and 500 people have the page open, the presence cache only contains one instance of the subscription Communications Server is not being polled 500 times for the presence of that contact. Once the presence of a contact changes, it is updated in the cache.  There are some server-based push mechanisms that would work nicely here, such as the one that Outlook Web Access 2010 uses.  Unfortunately we didnt have time to explore these options.   I have a method that counts the number of Contacts each Supplier, Customer and Manufacturer has (this is a scenario to try make explaining easier!) The models are all created by Linq to SQL classes. Each Supplier, Customer and Manufacturer may have one or more Contacts public int CountContacts<TModel>(TModel entity) where TModel : class { return entity.Contacts.Count(); } The above of course doesnt work, because the 'entity' is generic and doesnt know whether it has the property 'Contacts'. Can someone help with how to achieve this?

• Using cellUpdateEvent with YUI DataTable and JSON DataSource

  I'm working with a UI that has a (YUI2) JSON DataSource that's being used to populate a DataTable. What I would like to do is, when a value in the table gets updated, perform a simple animation on the cell whose value changed. Here are some relevant snippets of code: var columns = [ {key: 'foo'}, {key: 'bar'}, {key: 'baz'} ]; var dataSource = new YAHOO.util.DataSource('/someUrl'); dataSource.responseType = YAHOO.util.DataSource.TYPE_JSON; dataSource.connXhrMode = 'queueRequests'; dataSource.responseSchema = { resultsList: 'results', fields: [ {key: 'foo'}, {key: 'bar'}, {key: 'baz'} ] }; var dataTable = new YAHOO.widget.DataTable('container', columns, dataSource); var callback = function() { success: dataTable.onDataReturnReplaceRows, failure: function() { // error handling code }, scope: dataTable }; dataSource.setInterval(1000, null, callback); And here's what I'd like to do with it: dataTable.subscribe('cellUpdateEvent', function(record, column, oldData) { var td = dataTable.getTdEl({record: record, column: column}); YAHOO.util.Dom.setStyle(td, 'backgroundColor', '#ffff00'); var animation = new YAHOO.util.ColorAnim(td, { backgroundColor: { to: '#ffffff'; } }); animation.animate(); }; However, it doesn't seem like using cellUpdateEvent works. Does a cell that's updated as a result of the setInterval callback even fire a cellUpdateEvent? It may be that I don't fully understand what's going on under the hood with DataTable. Perhaps the whole table is being redrawn every time the data is queried, so it doesn't know or care about changes to individual cells?. Is the solution to write my own specific function to replace onDataReturnReplaceRows? Could someone enlighten me on how I might go about accomplishing this? Edit: After digging through datatable-debug.js, it looks like onDataReturnReplaceRows won't fire the cellUpdateEvent. It calls reset() on the RecordSet that's backing the DataTable, which deletes all of the rows; it then re-populates the table with fresh data. I tried changing it to use onDataReturnUpdateRows, but that doesn't seem to work either.

• Del.icio.us get xml of all posts

  Im trying to get all of my posts in a delicious account to an MySql DB. Since delicious exports xml I think it wont be too complicated, but being new to it I cant really make sense of the api... I believe I have to query it as so: https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all? But one catch is that im using an yahoo id for that account which I need to do it as follows: "To access data from accounts created using a Yahoo! ID, use the same API's as below, but change the path to /v2, and make HTTP requests using OAuth as provided by the Yahoo! Developer Network." I cant understand how to do it, can someone please help. Thanks. EDIT Although I still have the same doubt I figured out I can export the whole thing from the settings in my account, now I just need to get the html export in a xml file :) Also the yahoo method for accessing data, really is no good.

• Help with a simple switch statement

  I need to find the value of a variable and use it to add a class to a div, based on a switch statement. For example, my variable is $link and if $link has google.com IN IT at all, I need $class to equal 'google', if $link as yahoo.com IN IT at all, $class then needs to equal 'yahoo' So, I need something like this, but I'm not sure how/or if to use preg_match or something to check and see if the $link variable has the value we are looking for in it - see 'case' text below: switch ($link) { case 'IF link has Google.com in it': $class = 'google'; break; case 'IF link has Yahoo.com in it': $class = 'yahoo'; break; default: # code... break; } OR if there is a better way to do this, please let me know :D Thanks

  Hi folks. I've been working on a complex "user feed" type of functionality for a while now, and after experimenting with various union plugins, hacking named scopes, and brute force, have arrived at a solution I'm happy with. S.O. has been hugely helpful for me, so I thought I'd post it here in hopes that it might help others and also to get feedback -- it's very possible that I worked on this so long that I walked down an unnecessarily complicated road. For the sake of my example, I'll use users, groups, and articles. A user can follow other users to get a feed of their articles. They can also join groups and get a feed of articles that have been added to those groups. What I needed was a combined, pageable feed of distinct articles from a user's contacts and groups. Let's begin. user.rb has_many :articles has_many :contacts has_many :contacted_users, :through => :contacts has_many :memberships has_many :groups, :through => :memberships contact.rb belongs_to :user belongs_to :contacted_user, :class_name => "User", :foreign_key => "contacted_user_id" article.rb belongs_to :user has_many :submissions has_many :groups, :through => :submissions group.rb has_many :memberships has_many :users, :through => :memberships has_many :submissions has_many :articles, :through => :submissions Those are the basic models that define my relationships. Now, I add two named scopes to the Article model so that I can get separate feeds of both contact articles and group articles should I desire. article.rb # Get all articles by user's contacts named_scope :by_contacts, lambda {|user| {:joins => "inner join contacts on articles.user_id = contacts.contacted_user_id", :conditions => ["articles.published = 1 and contacts.user_id = ?", user.id]} } # Get all articles in user's groups. This does an additional query to get the user's group IDs, then uses those in an IN clause named_scope :by_groups, lambda {|user| {:select => "DISTINCT articles.*", :joins => :submissions, :conditions => {:submissions => {:group_id => user.group_ids}}} } Now I have to create a method that will provide a UNION of these two feeds into one. Since I'm using Rails 2.3.5, I have to use the construct_finder_sql method to render a scope into its base sql. In Rails 3.0, I could use the to_sql method. user.rb def feed "(#{Article.by_groups(self).send(:construct_finder_sql,{})}) UNION (#{Article.by_contacts(self).send(:construct_finder_sql,{})})" end And finally, I can now call this method and paginate it from my controller using will_paginate's paginate_by_sql method. HomeController.rb @articles = Article.paginate_by_sql(current_user.feed, :page => 1) And we're done! It may seem simple now, but it was a lot of work getting there. Feedback is always appreciated. In particular, it would be great to get away from some of the raw sql hacking. Cheers.

  Hi, I've got a Customer object with a Collection of CustomerContacts IEnumerable Contacts { get; set; } In some other code I'm using Reflection and have the PropertyInfo of Contacts property var contacts = propertyInfo.GetValue(customerObject, null); I know contacts has at least one object in it, but how do I get it out? I don't want to Cast it to IEnumerable because I want to keep my reflection method dynamic. I thought about calling FirstOrDefault() by reflection - but can't do that easily because its an extension method. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

• Address Book callback not called

  I have an iPhone app that makes use of the AddressBook.framework and uses Core Data to store these contacts. In order to make sure I update my own database when the Address Book is updated (whether via MobileMe or editing within my own app), I am subscribing to the notification as to when the Address Book is updating. I call this on startup: ABAddressBookRef book = ABAddressBookCreate(); ABAddressBookRegisterExternalChangeCallback(book, addressBookChanged, self); Which (supposedly) calls this on any editing. I have an ABPersonViewController which allows editing, and addressBookChanged never seems to get called. void addressBookChanged(ABAddressBookRef reference, CFDictionaryRef dictionary, void *context) { // The contacts controller we need to call ContactsController *contacts = (ContactsController *)context; // Sync with the Address Book [contacts synchronizeWithAddressBook:reference]; } Is there any reason for it to not be called?

• How do you set the initial value for a ManyToMany field in django?

  I am using a ModelForm to create a form, and I have gotten the initial values set for every field in the form except for the one that is a ManyToMany field. I understand that I need to give it a list, but I can't get it to work. My code right now is roughly: contacts = userProfile.contact.all() initial = {'contacts': contacts} But that doesn't work. Am I missing something here?

• MYSQL query to return rows that are NOT in a set

  Hi, I have two tables: Contact (id,name) Link (id, contact_id, source_id) I have the following query which works that returns the contacts with the source_id of 8 in the Link table. SELECT name FROM `Contact` LEFT JOIN Link ON Link.contact_id = Contact.id WHERE Link.source_id=8; However I am a little stumped on how to return a list of all the contacts which are NOT associated with source_id of 8. A simple != will not work as contacts without any links are not returned. Thanks.

• Getting really weird long Contact Group names

  When looking at the Contact Groups on Google Contacts or in the People application of my HTC Legend phone, I get the groups names ok eg: Friends, Family, VIP, Favorite etc... But in my application I get really wrong names such as "Family" became "System Group: Family" "Friends" became "System Group: Friends" "Favorite" became "Favorite_5656100000000_3245664334564" I use the below code to read these values: public Cursor getFromSystem() { // Get the base URI for the People table in the Contacts content // provider.   I'm adding some columns to one of my database tables, and then populating those columns: def self.up add_column :contacts, :business_id, :integer add_column :contacts, :business_type, :string Contact.reset_column_information Contact.all.each do |contact| contact.update_attributes(:business_id => contact.client_id, :business_type => 'Client') end remove_column :contacts, :client_id end The line contact.update_attributes is causing the following Authlogic error: You must activate the Authlogic::Session::Base.controller with a controller object before creating objects I have no idea what is going on here - I'm not using a controller method to modify each row in the table. Nor am I creating new objects. The error doesn't occur if the contacts table is empty. I've had a google and it seems like this error can occur when you run your controller tests, and is fixed by adding before_filter :activate_authlogic to them, but this doesn't seem relevant in my case. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

  Windows 7 and Windows Vista have a Region and Language control panel which contains a Formats tab which contains a popup menu titled Format. This menu allows the user to select from among many language-oriented sets of number, currency, time, and date formatting preferences regardless of the language of the base system. For example, I could decide I prefer the default currency symbol to be Japanese yen on a US English system. The Windows Contacts application changes its behavior depending on these format preferences. For example, if I select Japanese formatting preferences, Windows Contacts displays and lets me edit phonetic names (AKA "ruby", "yomi", and "furigana") but not middle names. If I select US English formatting preferences, Windows Contacts displays and lets me edit middle names but not phonetic names. I need to write code (native C calling Win32) which mirrors the behavior of the Windows Contacts application in this respect. Which API should I call?

  How do you encode a javascript object/hash (pairs of properties and values) into a URL-encoded query string with YUI (2.7.0 or 3.0.0 Beta) ? I want to do the equivalent of Object.toQueryString() from Prototype: I need this to encode parameters for GET and POST requests with YAHOO.util.Connect. It turns out YAHOO.util.Connect has a setForm() method to serialize a form but that still leaves me out cold to encode parameters for GET requests, or the 4th parameter of YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest() to pass post data.

  I've hit a brick wall: I have an SQL Function: FUNCTION [dbo].[ContactsFTS] (@searchtext nvarchar(4000)) RETURNS TABLE AS RETURN SELECT * FROM Contacts INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(Contacts, *, @searchtext) AS KEY_TBL ON Contacts.Id = KEY_TBL.[KEY] which I am calling via LINQ public IQueryable<ContactsFTSResult> SearchByFullText(String searchText) { return db.ContactsFTS(searchText); } I am projecting the ContactsFTSResult collection into a List<Contact> which is then given to my viewmodel. Here is the problem: My Contacts table (and therefore the Contact object created via LINQ to SQL) has multiple FK relationships to other information, such as Contact.BillingAddressId is an FK to an Address.Id. That information is missing after I do the fulltext search (e.g. if I try to access Contact.BillingAddress it is null). Can I add this information somehow via DataLoadOptions? I tried LoadWith<Contact>(c => c.BillingAddress) but this doesn't work, I assume because of the fact that I'm calling the function instead of doing the whole query via LINQ.

Shouldn't it need to parse HTML source FIRST Before it parses CSS file (I assume which triggers the 'Recalculate Style') and Java Script file (I assume which triggers the 'Function Call')

  Editing my question for conciseness and to update what I've done: How do I model having multiple Addresses for a Company and assign a single Address to a Contact, and be able to assign them when creating or editing a Contact? I want to use nested attributes to be able to add an address at the time of creating a new contact. That address exists as its own model because I may want the option to drop-down from existing addresses rather than entering from scratch. I can't seem to get it to work.
