  • Why does my Mac address reset after reconnecting?

    I have ubuntu 12. I'm changing my mac address with ifconfig wlan0 hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx which works. However when I restart my connection my computer resets my mac to my original mac address. I'm guessing that this happens because something calls... ifconfig wlan0 down ... do something before connecting ifconfig wlan0 up ... connect to designated access point I want my mac address to however be the same no matter how many times I disconnect and reconnect, whether to another network or the same one. Also it would be nice to turn off the auto-connect feature for my network-manager with out having to edit each individual connection. Lastly I would like to know how to connect to a wifi network through the terminal and not via gui network manager ubuntu provides.

  • How to prevent HP Photosmart Essential from launching on removal drive insertion

    My in-laws bought an HP computer loaded with HP junk, and it's giving me a headache. When they insert a camera memory card into their printer, the Auto-Play dialog comes up, but it also launches the HP Photosmart Essential application, which is a piece of trash. It will NOT launch properly just normally from the taskbar, so that makes it pretty useless. I tried uninstalling it, but then when you insert a memory card, a Microsoft Help window comes up saying how to reinstall HP Photosmart Essential!! Is there any way to find the registry key (I assume) that allows a program to be launched when a memory card is inserted?

    In MSVC, how can I make any unhandled C++ exception (std::runtime_error, for instance) crash my release-compiled program so that it generates a dump with the full stack from the exception throw location? I have installed NTSD in the AeDebug registry an can generate good dumps for things like memory access violation, so the matter here comes down to crashing the program correctly, I suppose. Compiler is g++, platform is linux x86-64, linker is gfortran C++ code is compiled with -fno- omit-frame-pointer. oprofile is started with --callgraph=25. report I run with --callgraph. the call graph is produced but it's only includes self time, which is not much use what am I missing?

  • Requiring mulitple group membership in order to access folder

    How would I go about creating a file or folder that requires a user to be a member of two or more different groups in order to read/write to the folder? For example, say I run an auto repair shop, and I have a folder called "Repair History" and I only want people to access it if they are members of BOTH the "Mechanics" and "Cashiers" group? This would be an AND requirment instead of an OR requirement which seems to be the norm. I know we can create a separate group that is needed to access the folder, but this is more of an academic question, since it pertains to a different security structure that we are creating. I'm not sure if MS security handles it, but I'm wondering how it would be done either way.

  • Setting Screen Resolution for Extended Display on Windows 8

    I'm using a Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 8 Developers Preview. I've connected a second screen (some Dell 22 inch one) and have been using it with 'Extend these displays' options in the Screen Resolution settings. It use to be all fine but yesterday I changed my VGA cable to the 2nd monitor and since then the resolution of the 2nd monitor is not setting properly. Earlier, while auto detecting the monitor, the right resolution use to appear but now, as you can see from the attached image, none of the resolution in the drop down fits with the right proportion. So how do I set the right screen resolution. (I think the right one is 1680 x 1050 which is not there in the list)

    Given a class such as def MyClass text = "hello" number = 123 Is there a way in python to inspect MyClass an determine that it has the two attributes text and number. I can not use something like inspect.getSource(object) because the class I am to get it's attributes for are generate using SWIG (so they are hidden in .so :) ). So I am really looking for something equivalant to Java's [Class.getDeclardFields][1] Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I'll have to solve this problem with SWIG + JAVA instead of SWIG + Python.

  • Ubuntu cannot access internet, LAN is fine

    I have an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server that is directly connected to our Comcast Business Gateway modem and I have configured it with 1 of our 5 allotted Static IPs. My other machines on our LAN can connect to this server (via ssh, web, ping, etc.) but I cannot access this server from outside our network, and this machine cannot get out to the internet either (ping google.com fails with unknown host). I have tried rebooting Ubuntu, rebooting my Comcast modem, but nothing seems to make it work. I'm an Ubuntu noob, is there some other config I need to apply to make this work?   • AIDL based two way communication

    I have two apps between which I want some data exchanged. As they are running in different processes, so, I am using AIDL to communicate between them. Now, everything is happening really great in one direction (say my apps are A and B) i.e. data is being sent from A to B but, now I need to send some data from B to A. I noticed that we need to include the app with the AIDL in the build path of app where the AIDL method will be called. So in my case A includes B in its build path. For B to be able to send something to A, by that logic, B would need A in its build path. This would create a cycle. I am stuck at this point. And I cannot think of a work around this loop. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) . Thanks! ----EDIT---- So, I following the advice mentioned in one of the comments below, I have the following code In the IPCAIDL project the AIDL file resides, its contents are package ipc.android.aidl; interface Iaidl{ boolean pushBoolean(boolean flag); } This project is being used as a library in both the IPCServer and the IPC Client. The IPCServer Project has the service which defines what happens with the AIDL method.     Is there an easier way to type apostrophes on the Droid X keyboard? I press and hold the period key, which brings up the little pallet of punctuation. But the apostrophe is inexplicably all the way over on the left. Can I move this closer to the right, where my thumb is while clicking and holding the period key? Alternately, can I somehow get an apostrophe on the overhead menu that appears when you type a space? This is the place where auto-correct goes, but when you type a space, it becomes a comma, exclamation point, question mark, etc. How can I get an apostrophe in this list?

    this is the backup script that I've got going: http://pastebin.com/4g4E6wUz This is the cron info: /usr/local/bin/php /home/backups/backup-db.php --filename-dated ALL No matter what I do, I keep on getting this error: Could not open input file: /home/backups/backup-db.php - That's the correct location of the file. I just don't know what else to try, I feel I've been working on this for so long now that I've explored every avenue, on the other hand sometimes I think that the time I've spent on it is clouding my thoughts and I'm missing something stupidly obvious. Just wondering if someone can give me a few pointers? Also on a last note, does anyone know of a way/article to auto generate a full backup of cPanel every * amount of days and store it in a location that I want? Kind Regards.
