• Python. Draw rectangle in basemap

  I need to add several rectangles in my basemap. I nee four rectangles with lat and log ranges as below. 1) llcrnrlon=-10, urcrnrlon=10, llcrnrlat=35,urcrnrlat=60 2) llcrnrlon=10.5, urcrnrlon=35, llcrnrlat=35,urcrnrlat=60 3) llcrnrlon=35.5, urcrnrlon=52, llcrnrlat=30,urcrnrlat=55 4) llcrnrlon=-20, urcrnrlon=35, llcrnrlat=20,urcrnrlat=34.5 My script is below. • Dynamic Custom Fields for Data Model

  I am in the process of creating a dynamic database where user will be able to create resource type where he/she can add custom fields (multiple texts, strings, and files) Each resource type will have the ability to display, import, export its data; I've been thinking about it and here are my approaches. I would love to hear what do you guys think. Ideas: just hashing all the custom data in a data field (pro: writing is easier, con: reading back out may be harder); children fields (the model will have multiple fields of strings, fields of text, and fields for file path); fixed number of custom fields in the same table with a key mapping data hash stored in the same row; Non-SQL approach, but then the problem would be generating/changing models on the fly to work with different custom fields;

• Get Python 2.7's 'json' to not throw an exception when it encounters random byte strings

  Trying to encode a a dict object into json using Python 2.7's json (ie: import json). The object has some byte strings in it that are "pickled" data using cPickle, so for json's purposes, they are basically random byte strings. I was using django.utils's simplejson and this worked fine. But I recently switched to Python 2.7 on google app engine and they don't seem to have simplejson available anymore. Now that I am using json, it throws an exception when it encounters bytes that aren't part of UTF-8. The error that I'm getting is: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x80 in position 0: invalid start byte It would be nice if it printed out a string of the character codes like the debugging might do, ie: \u0002]q\u0000U\u001201. But I really don't much care how it handles this data just as long as it doesn't throw an exception and continues serializing the information that it does recognize. How can I make this happen? • how to protect an imported win32 dll into a .net application from memory issues

  I have a c# application that needs to use a legacy win32 dll. The dll is almost its own app, it has dialogs, operations with hardware, etc. When this dll is imported and used, there are a couple of problems that occur: Dragging a dialog (not a windows system dialog, but one created by the dll) across the managed code app causes the UI to not repaint. Further it generates a system out of memory exception from various ui controls. The performance is incredibly slow. There seems to be no way to unload the dll so the memory never gets cleaned up. When we close our managed app, we get another memory exception. • Problem in packages in importing in Eclipse

  Hi (I am using Galileo), I am trying to import some existing projects into Eclipse. The structures for their packages is: Project/ /src /java /a /b /c Once imported in the package explorer I see: Project src/java --a --b --c - AClass.java This is ok, since the classes e.g. AClass.java are defined in package: a.b.c But in one project the structure (once imported) becomes: Project src --java --a --b --c - AClass.java And that causes the error that AClass.java is defined to be in package a.b.c but it is actually under java.a.b.c Why is this happening? Why in this specific project java is not ignored as part of package? Thanks

• Load class based on SDK version

  Is there any way I can load a class based on what version of the OS the phone is running? For example: I made an app which requires 1.6+ Android. Is there a way for me to load one class or the other based on what OS the phone is running? I'm asking this specifically for contacts. The database was changed from 1.6 to 2.0 and the old version doesn't retrieve contacts on the new OS phone. I'd still like to keep my 1.6 requirement, but at the same time I'd like 2.0+ phones to access the contact part of the app. So can I make 2 APIs, somehow pack them with the app and decide on the fly which I choose to import?

• Mixing expressions and expression language (<%= %> inside of c:if)

  I need to access some constants in my jsp, and sadly the EL does not offer any functionality for it. There are some options like the unstandard tag library, but I'd like to keep it a bit more standard. I tried: <%@ page import = "com.jackdane.Constants"%> <c:if test="${object.display == '<%=com.jackdane.Constants.YES %>}'"> //some display logic </c:if> But that doesn't appear to do the trick. It's been a while since I've used an expression so I might have made an error. Any input is appreciated. Edit: To clarify, the constants class is not in my control. It's inside a jar file that I recieved. It contains no getters/setters. Just private static final Strings.

• Django template context not working with imported class

  I'm using Django's templating on appengine, and am having a problem whereby a class I'm importing from another package is not correctly being made available to the template context. Broadly speaking, this is the code. The prop1 is not available in the template in the first example below, but is in the second. MyClass is identical in both cases. This does not work: from module import MyClass context = MyClass() self.response.out.write(template.render(path, context)) This does: class MyClass(object): def __init__(self): self.prop1 = "prop1" context = MyClass() self.response.out.write(template.render(path, context)) If I log the context in the above code I get: <module.MyClass object at 0x107b1e450> when it's imported, and: <__main__.MyClass object at 0x103759390> when it's defined in the same file. Any clues as to what might cause this kind of behaviour?

  I have two identically-sized numpy.array objects (both one-dimensional), one of which contains a list of starting index positions, and the other of which contains a list of ending index positions (alternatively you could say I have a list of starting positions and window lengths). In case it matters, the slices formed by the starting and ending positions are guaranteed to be non-overlapping. I am trying to figure out how to use these starting and ending positions to form an index for another array object, without having to use a loop.   I am looking for a tool, which helps me to organize my personal bookmarks. I want to be able to assign tags and free comments to a bookmark. I want to search my bookmarks by tags date of bookmarking pattern in title pattern in url It would be nice to be web based to enable sharing my bookmarks between different machines. But for it would be OK, if it works on a single machine as long as it has some import/export way to transfer the links to a new machine replacing the old. As browsers I'm using Firefox and ChromePlus. It would be nice, if the solution works with both browsers. With free comments, I mean additional remarks stored for a bookmark, which is not essential for searching.

• Can you make a python script behave differently when imported than when run directly?

  I often have to write data parsing scripts, and I'd like to be able to run them in two different ways: as a module and as a standalone script. So, for example: def parseData(filename): # data parsing code here return data def HypotheticalCommandLineOnlyHappyMagicFunction(): print json.dumps(parseData(sys.argv[1]), indent=4) the idea here being that in another python script I can call import dataparser and have access to dataParser.parseData in my script, or on the command line I can just run python dataparser.py and it would run my HypotheticalCommandLineOnlyHappyMagicFunction and shunt the data as json to stdout. Is there a way to do this in python?

• How to get notified of changes on a read only table? (I.e., Price drop notifications.)

  Let's say I have these tables/models: Product - id - last_updated_date - name - price User - id - name Wishlist - id - user_id - product_id The Product table has a few million records and is being updated automatically each night via a data import (inserting into a new table, dropping the old one). I basically have read-only access to that table/model. If a product is on a user's wishlist and the price drops, I'd like to be able to notify that user. What methods can be used to do this? I have a couple of ideas: Keep track of the Product.last_updated_date in the wishlist model and periodically poll the product table to see if it has been updated. This sounds like a horrible/non-scaleable solution. Some sort of Postgres View or Function that triggers when the Product table is updated? I'm new to postgres so I'm not yet sure if this is even possible. Something amazing that you will suggest that I haven't thought of :) Any help in the right direction is greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Just to clarify, I am trying to get one object that contains the whole multidimensional array, not a list of objects. This object's reference will be an input to a C DLL that expects a 3D array.
