• What are the best practices for importing large datasets into MongoDB?

  We are just giving MongoDB a test run and have set up a Rails 3 app with Mongoid. What are the best practices for inserting large datasets into MongoDB? To flesh out a scenario: Say, I have a book model and want to import several million records from a CSV file. I suppose this needs to be done in the console, so this may possibly not be a Ruby-specific question. Edited to add: I assume it makes a huge difference whether the imported data includes associations or is supposed to go into one model only. Any comments on either scenario welcome.

• Can you call compiled JRuby classes from java?

  So I came up with the general idea to write some code in JRuby, then access all the classes via Java. I have no idea if this is at all possible but I wanted to ask anyway. Lets say I have some JRuby code: class adder def addme return 22 end end If I compiled this with jrubyc is there any way I could then possibly do something like this in java: import adder; class anything { void testMethod() { adder a = new adder(); int x = a.addme(); } } After looking at it now it sort of makes me think that Java will have zero idea what sort of item test addme is going to return so that might not work. • Accessing items from a dictionary using pickle efficiently in Python

  I have a large dictionary mapping keys (which are strings) to objects. I pickled this large dictionary and at certain times I want to pull out only a handful of entries from it. The dictionary has usually thousands of entries total. When I load the dictionary using pickle, as follows: from cPickle import * # my dictionary from pickle, containing thousands of entries mydict = open(load('mypickle.pickle')) # accessing only handful of entries here for entry in relevant_entries: # find relevant entry value = mydict[entry] I notice that it can take up to 3-4 seconds to load the entire pickle, which I don't need, since I access only a tiny subset of the dictionary entries later on (shown above.) How can I make it so pickle only loads those entries that I have from the dictionary, to make this faster? Thanks.

  I want to make a window without the top taskbar (that is movable), so there is only thin outline around the GUI box. • Why are Java primitive types' modifiers `public`, `abstract`, & `final`?

  In the process of doing some reflection on Java types, I came across an oddity that I do not understand. Inspecting int for its modifiers returns public, abstract, and final. I understand public and final, but the presence of abstract on a primitive type is non-obvious to me. Why is this the case?   Hi Alls, I would like to build a small python script that basicaly does the reverse of grep. I want to match the files in a directory/subdirectory that doesn't have a "searched_string". So far i've done that: import os filefilter = ['java','.jsp'] path= "/home/patate/code/project" for path, subdirs, files in os.walk(path): for name in files: if name[-4:] in filefilter : print os.path.join(path, name) This small script will be listing everyfiles with "java" or "jsp" extension inside each subdirectory, and will output them full path. I'm now wondering how to do the rest, for example i would like to be able if I forgot a session management entry in one file (allowing anyone a direct file access), to search for : "if (!user.hasPermission" and list the file which does not contain this string.   i wrote this python code, which from wolfram alpha says that its supposed to return the factorial of any positive value (i probably messed up somewhere), integer or not: from math import * def double_factorial(n): if int(n) == n: n = int(n) if [0,1].__contains__(n): return 1 a = (n&1) + 2 b = 1 while a<=n: b*=a a+= 2 return float(b) else: return factorials(n/2) * 2**(n/2) *(pi/2)**(.25 *(-1+cos(n * pi))) def factorials(n): return pi**(.5 * sin(n*pi)**2) * 2**(-n + .25 * (-1 + cos(2*n*pi))) * double_factorial(2*n) the problem is , say i input pi to 6 decimal places. 2*n will not become a float with 0 as its decimals any time soon, so the equation turns out to be pi**(.5 * sin(n*pi)**2) * 2**(-n + .25 * (-1 + cos(2*n*pi))) * double_factorial(loop(loop(loop(...))))) how would i stop the recursion and still get the answer? ive had suggestions to add an index to the definitions or something, but the problem is, if the code stops when it reaches an index, there is still no answer to put back into the previous "nests" or whatever you call them

  I am currently writing a Haskell program that does some initialization work and then calls ncmpcpp. What I am trying to do is start ncmpcpp and terminate the Haskell program, so that only ncmpcpp is left (optionally, the program can keep running in the background, as long as it's unintrusive) However, even though I am able to start ncmpcpp, I cannot interact with it. I see its output, but input appears to be impossible.   I have a class that contains some data: class DATA Now I would to create some functions that uses those data. I can do it easily by writing member functions like DATA::usedata(); Since there are hundreds of functions, I would to keep an order in my code, so I would like to have some "categories" (not sure of the correct name) like: DATA data; data.memory.free(); data.memory.allocate(); data.file.import(); data.whatever.foo(); where memory, file and whatever are the "categories" and free, allocate and foo are the functions. • C# communication between processes.

  I'm working with an application, and I am able to make C# scripts to run in this environment. I can import DLLs of any kind into this environment. My problem is that I'd like to enable communication between these scripts. As the environment is controlled and I have no access to the source code of the application, I'm at a loss as to how to do this. Things I've tried: File I/O: Just writing the messages that I would like each to read in .txt files and having the other read it. Problem is that I need this scripts to run quite quickly and that took up too much time. nServiceBus: I tried this, but I just couldn't get it to work in the environment that I'm dealing with. I'm not saying it can't be done, just that I can't get it done. Does anyone know of a simple way to do this, that is also pretty fast?

• CakePHP Permissions, works fine on local server, but fails after upload.

  I created a website with CakePHP, set up all of the permissions so guests could view certain parts, and members only in certain areas, all with an administration panel. Whenever I test this on my local testing server, it works perfectly, if I login I can view the content, if I logout, I can't. However, when I upload exactly the same files and upload and import the database, it fails to work, it just disallows all member access regardless of if you're logged in or not, this even applies to administrators. I'm not sure what's going on here, any help would be appreciated. If you need any more information, just ask. Regards, Alz454.

  My source files tree is like this: /src /pkg /foo foo.go foo_test.go Inside foo.go: package foo func bar(n int) { ... } inside foo_test.go: package foo func testBar(t *testing.T) { bar(10) ... } My questions are: Does package name relates to directory name, source file name? If there is only one source file for a package, need I put it in a directory? Should I put foo.go and foo_test.go in the same package? In the foo_test.go, as it's in the same package as foo.go, I didn't import foo. But when I compile foo_test.go with 6g, it says bar() is undefined. What should I do?

  I am still learning REGEX, and I've run into an issue ... I am trying to separate a string that is composed of a mixture of letters and numbers that are in decimal format: AB0.500CD1.05EF2.29 Into something like this: list1 = AB,CD,EF list2 = 0.500,1.05,2.29 A complication to all this is that I also have strings that look like this: AB1CD2EF3 Which I'd also like to separate into this: list1 = AB,CD,EF list2 = 1,2,3 A previous inquiry yielded the following snippet, import re pattern = re.compile(r'([a-zA-Z]+)([0-9]+)') for (letters, numbers) in re.findall(pattern,cmpnd): print numbers print letters This example works fine for strings of the 2nd kind, but only "finds" the leading digit in the numbers that contain decimal places in the strings of the first kind.   Hi, I am required to install two security certifcates on user's PC's to allow them to connect to a certain Australian Government website to perform searchs. I can perform this manually (via Certifcate Import Wizard) when the user has logged into the machine, however when a different user logs in, the certifcates need to be re-installed for that user as well. Q1. Can certifcates ( the file extension is .p12) be installed in such a way that any user using the PC can use the certifcates? Q2.   I'm starting a conversion of a system from MS SQL Server to Postgres. I have the table structures converted, and I use "bcp" to get the data out of SQL Server. ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0x80 HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match the encoding expected by the server, which is controlled by "client_encoding". CONTEXT: COPY cm_outgoing, line 200: "200 c:\temp\200.xml 2009-10-10 01:50:44.000 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000" I've already used "sed" to get rid of the NUL (0x00) entries in the file, and I can't find any instances of 0x80 in the file that I'm trying to import. Any thoughts? Is there an easier way?

  I've created a class using XCode3.2.1 and I want to make it inherit from NSViewController. #import < Cocoa/Cocoa.h @interface myCustomView : NSViewController {} @end I get the error that it can't find the class header file, but I've linked in the Cocoa libraries. Undefined symbols: "_OBJC_CLASS_$_NSViewController", referenced from: _OBJC_CLASS_$_myCustomView in myCustomView.o I have other classes in my project that are inherit Cocoa classes without a problem. I don't have any errors if I make it inherit from classes that are part of Framework (eg NSObject, NSArray). Any suggestions?

  I have a transaction log file in CSV format that I want use to run statistics. The log has the following fields: date: Time/date stamp salesperson: The username of the person who closed the sale promo: sum total of items in the sale that were promotions. amount: grand total of the sale I'd like to get the following statistics: salesperson: The username of the salesperson being analyzed. minAmount: The smallest grand total of this salesperson's transaction. avgAmount: The mean grand total.. maxAmount: The largest grand total.. minPromo: The smallest promo amount by the salesperson. avgPromo: The mean promo amount... I'm tempted to build a database structure, import this file, write SQL, and pull out the stats. I don't need anything more from this data than these stats. Is there an easier way? I'm hoping some bash script could make this easy.

There are a few filenames in this file (Costco) that don't have .html and _files. I need to pick them out, the only issue is that it has over 2,500 filenames. Need help on a code that will search through this path and pick out all the filenames that don't end with .html or _files. Thanks guys
