Silverlight: Scrolling with a StackPanel

I have a grid, 3 by 3 (3 rowdefinitions and 3 columndefinitions). I want some content (a StackPanel) in one of those grid cells to scroll. I'm fairly sure this is possible but I cannot figure out how. I've tried adding ScrollViewers and Scrollbar controls to the grid cell I want to scroll, but this usually ends up creating scrolling for the entire page. Edit: My issue is more specificlly how I can get scrolling over a StackPanel. Execute a SQlite command with Entity Framework

Hi everybody, I use a SQLite database and Entity Framework (with .net framework 3.5). I'm trying to execute a simple SQL non query command to create a new table in this datase. My Entity Framework already contains the object model for this table : I just want to generate the corresponding table using a command. (By the way, there is maybe a better way to do this. Any ideas someone :) My problem is that I'm not able to execute any command, even the simple commands. In WPF, how do I get a command in a Control Template to bind to a property in a parent?

I am relatively new to WPF and sometimes it makes my head explode. However, I do like the power behind it, especially when used with the MVVM model. I have a control template that contains a button. I use that control template inside of a custom control. I want to add a property on the custom control that will bind to the command property of the button inside the control template. Basically, it is a combo box with a button to the right of it to allow a user to pop up a search dialog. Since this control could appear on a usercontrol multiple times, I need to be able to potentially bind each control to a different command (Searh products, search customers, etc). Treeview - Hierarchical Data Template - Binding does not update on source change?

Greetings! I ran into this problem in my project (Silverlight 3 with C#): I have a TreeView which is data bound to, well, a tree. This TreeView has a HierarchicalDataTamplate in a resource dictionary, that defines various controls. Now I want to hide (Visibility.Collapse) some items depending on wether a node has children or not. Other items shall be visible under the same condition. It works like charm when I first bind the source tree to the TreeView, but when I change the source tree, the visibility in the treeview does not change. What I want to be able to do is assign a Command, or use an event, so that when the user clicks on the Day it will notify the parent of the Day object that it has been clicked. I've tried the following: <Rectangle.CommandBindings> <CommandBinding Command="{x:Static local:Day.NextDay}" Executed="{x:Static local:Day.OnExecutedDayClick}" CanExecute="{x:Static local:Day.OnCanExecuteDayClick}"/> </Rectangle.CommandBindings> to try and bind the commands that are in the Day class but it didn't work. I got an error stating: 'ResourceDictionary' root element requires a x:Class attribute to support event handlers in the XAML file. Either remove the event handler for the Executed event, or add a x:Class attribute to the root element. Which I think means that there is no code-behind file for a ResourceDictionary, or something to that effect. In any event, I'm not sure if I should be using Commands here, or somehow tying events to the Rectangle in question, or if this is even possible. I've seen various places where it sure looks like it's possible, I'm just unable to translate what I'm seeing into something that actually works, hence this post. Thanks in advance.

Crypted_password is null when using Authlogic to save a user

Silverlight 3.0 Custom Cursor in Chart

Hello All, I'm probably overlooking something that will be obvious when I see the solution, but for now... I am attempting to use a custom cursor inside the chart area of a Toolkit chart. I have created a ControlTemplate for the chart, and a grid to contain the cursors. I show/hide the cursors, and attempt to move the containing Grid, using various Mouse events. The cursor is being displayed at the correct times, but I cannot get it to move to the correct position. My VARCHAR(MAX) field is capping itself at 4000; what gives?

Hello all... I have a table in one of my databases which is a queue of emails. Emails to certain addresses get accumulated into one email, which is done by a sproc. In the sproc, I have a table variable which I use to build the accumulated bodies of the emails, and then loop through to send each email. In my table var I have my body column defined as VARCHAR(MAX), seeing as there could be any number of emails currently accumulated for a given email address. It seems though that even though my column is defined as VARCHAR(MAX) it is behaving as if it were VARCHAR(4000) and is truncating the data going into it, although it does NOT throw any exceptions, it just silently stops concatenating any more data after 4000 characters. The MERGE statement is where it is building the accumulated email body into @EMAILS.BODY, which is the field that is truncating itself at 4000 characters. Below is the code of my sproc... Databinding to ObservableCollection in a different UserControl - how to preserve current selections?

Scope of question expanded on 2010-03-25 I ended up figuring out my problem, but here's a new problem that came up as a result of solving the original question, because I want to be able to award the bounty to someone!!! Once I figured out my problem, I soon found out that when the ObservableCollection updates, the databound ComboBox has its contents repopulated, but most of the selections have been blanked out. I assume that in this case, MVVM is going to make it difficult for me to remember the last selected item. I have an idea, but it seems a little nasty. I'll award the bounty to whomever comes up with a nice solution for this! Question re-written on 2010-03-24 I have two UserControls, where one is a dialog that has a TabControl, and the other is one that appears within said TabControl. I'll just call them CandyDialog and CandyNameViewer for simplicity's sake. There's also a data management class called Tracker that manages information storage, which for all intents and purposes just exposes a public property that is an ObservableCollection. As long as CandyNames is populated first, and then the consumer UserControl is displayed, all of the names are there. I obviously don't get any errors in the Output Window or anything like that. The issue I have is that when the ObservableCollection is modified from the model, those changes are not reflected in the consumer UserControl! I've never had this problem before; all of my previous uses of ObservableCollection updated fine, although in those cases I wasn't databinding across assemblies. Although I am currently only adding and removing candy names to/from the ObservableCollection, at a later date I will likely also allow renaming from the model side. Is there something I did wrong? Is there a good way to actually debug this? Reed Copsey indicates here that inter-UserControl databinding is possible. Unfortunately, my favorite Bea Stollnitz article on WPF databinding debugging doesn't suggest anything that I could use for this particular problem.

Implementing a popularity algorithm in Django

I am creating a site similar to reddit and hacker news that has a database of links and votes. I am implementing hacker news' popularity algorithm and things are going pretty swimmingly until it comes to actually gathering up these links and displaying them. The algorithm is simple: Y Combinator's Hacker News: Popularity = (p - 1) / (t + 2)^1.5` Votes divided by age factor. Where` p : votes (points) from users. t : time since submission in hours. p is subtracted by 1 to negate submitter's vote. Age factor is (time since submission in hours plus two) to the power of 1.5.factor is (time since submission in hours plus two) to the power of 1.5. I asked a very similar question over yonder http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1964395/complex-ordering-in-django but instead of contemplating my options I choose one and tried to make it work because that's how I did it with PHP/MySQL but I now know Django does things a lot differently. Preventing multiple repeat selection of synchronized Controls ?

The working code sample here synchronizes (single) selection in a TreeView, ListView, and ComboBox via the use of lambda expressions in a dictionary where the Key in the dictionary is a Control, and the Value of each Key is an Action<int. Where I am stuck is that I am getting multiple repetitions of execution of the code that sets the selection in the various controls in a way that's unexpected : it's not recursing : there's no StackOverFlow error happening; but, I would like to figure out why the current strategy for preventing multiple selection of the same controls is not working. Perhaps the real problem here is distinguishing between a selection update triggered by the end-user and a selection update triggered by the code that synchronizes the other controls ? Note: I've been experimenting with using Delegates, and forms of Delegates like Action<T>, to insert executable code in Dictionaries : I "learn best" by posing programming "challenges" to myself, and implementing them, as well as studying, at the same time, the "golden words" of luminaries like Skeet, McDonald, Liberty, Troelsen, Sells, Richter. DTGridView losing content while scrolling

I am using DTGridView from the DTKit by Daniel Tull. I implemented it in a very simple ViewController and the test I am doing is to place a button in the last row of the grid, which should add another row to the grid (and therefor moving the button to a row beneath it). The problem is, when I click the button a couple of times and then start scrolling, the grid seems to lose its content. As I am not completly sure this is a bug in the grid, but more in my code, I hope you guys can help me out and track down the bug. The grid is filled with as many rows as my int 'rows' ( +1 ) has. The last row does NOT contain 3 columns, but just one. That cell contains a button which (when pressed) adds 1 to the 'rows' integer. The problem starts, when it starts reusing cells (I am guessing) and content start disappearing. When I scroll back up, the UILabels I am putting in the cells are gone. Is there some bug, code error, mistake, dumb-ass-move I am missing here? Hope anyone can help.

A format for storing personal contacts in a database

I'm thinking of the best way to store personal contacts in a database for a business application. The traditional and straightforward approach would be to create a table with columns for each element, i.e. Name, Telephone Number, Job title, Address, etc... However, there are known industry standards for this kind of data, like for example vCard, or hCard, or vCard-RDF/XML or even Windows Contacts XML Schema. Utilizing an standard format would offer some benefits, like inter-operablilty with other systems. But how can I decide which method to use? The requirements are mainly to store the data. Search and ordering queries are highly unlikely but possible. The volume of the data is 100,000 records at maximum. My database engine supports native XML columns. I have been thinking to use some XML-based format to store the personal contacts. Then it will be possible to utilize XML indexes on this data, if searching and ordering is needed. Is this a good approach? Which contacts format and schema would you recommend for this? Edited after first answers Here is why I think the straightforward approach is bad. This is due to the nature of this kind of data - it is not that simple. The personal contacts it is not well-structured data, it may be called semi-structured. Each contact may have different data fields, maybe even such fields which I cannot anticipate. In my opinion, each piece of this data should be treated as important information, i.e. no piece of data could be discarded just because there was no relevant column in the database. If we took it further, assuming that no data may be lost, then we could create a big text column named Comment or Description or Other and put there everything which cannot be fitted well into table columns. But then again - the data would lose structure - this might be bad. If we wanted structured data then - according to the database design principles - the data should be decomposed into entities, and relations should be established between the entities. But this adds complexity - there are just too many entities, and lots of design desicions should be made, like "How do we store Address? Personal Name? Phone number? How do we encode home phone numbers and mobile phone numbers? How about other contact info?.." The relations between entities are complex and multiple, and each relation is a table in the database. Each relation needs to be documented in the design papers. That is a lot of work to do. But it is possible to avoid the complexity entirely - just document that the data is stored according to such and such standard schema, period. Then anybody who would be reading that document should easily understand what it was all about. Finally, this is all about using an industry standard. The standard is, hopefully, designed by some clever people who anticipated and described the structure of personal contacts information much better than I ever could. Why should we all reinvent the wheel?? It's much easier to use a standard schema. The problem is, there are just too many standards - it's not easy to decide which one to use!

Clickonce installation fails after addition of WCF service project

So I have a winform solution, deployed via clickonce. Eveything worked fine until i added a WCF project. (see error in parsing the manifest file at end of post) Now I notice that MSBuild compiles the service into a _PublishedWebsites dir. I don't know what the need for this is, but I am suspecting this is the cause of the problem. This wcf project references some other projects within the solution. I am actually hosting the wcf service within the application so I don't really need MSBuild to do all this for me. Hibernate - how to delete bidirectional many-to-many association

Problem: I have many-to-many association between two entities A and B. I set A entity as an owner of their relationship(inverse=true is on A's collection in b.hbm.xml). When i delete an A entity, corresponding records in join table are deleted. Hi All, I am stuck with a small problem here.. What i am trying to do is copy description of id's from one table to another. I have writter half of the javascript and can anybody tell me how to convert this function in jquery. I want the description copied from the first table based on the id to the second table. Have done this in jquery using 'contains', (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2449845/comparing-2-tables-column-values-and-copying-the-next-column-content-to-the-secon) since there are 1000 table rows, the explorer crashes. Getting a Temporary Table Returned from from Dynamic SQL in SQL Server 05, and parsing

So I was requested to make a few things.... This is where I am having problems. In the resulting table, Target_Name needs to become a column that holds Target_ID as a value for each row in the resulting table. Initially, I was just going to make this a function that returns a table variable but for some reason I can't figure out how to get it into an actual table variable. Or can I get something more useful returned from the exec statement? In the end, the results of the parsed string need to be in a table that can be joined on and used... How to find problem with PHP XSLTProcessor when return from transformToXML is false and libxml_get_

I'm working on the code below to allow HTTP user agents that cannot perform XSL transformations to view the resources on my server. I'm mystified because the result of transformToXML is false, but the result of libxml_get_errors() is an empty array. As you can see, the code outputs the LibXSLT version ID and I'm getting the problem on WinVista with version 1.1.24. Is libxml_get_errors() not the right function to get the errors from the XSLTProcessor object?
