  • Stretching width correctly to 100% of an inline-block element in IE6 and IE7

    I have the following markup, where I am attempting to get the right hand side of the second table to align with the right hand side of the heading above it. This works in IE8, Firefox and Chrome, but in IE6/7 the table is incorrectly stretched to fill the width of the page. I'm using the Trip Switch hasLayout trigger to apply inline-block in IE6/7. Does anyone know how (or even if) I can get the table only to fill the natural width of the wrapper element displayed with inline-block in IE6/7?   • What can't I build in Silverlight?

    First, I know that Silverlight needs to be embedded in a website, usually an asp page. I understand I need a delivery boy. My question is this; What types of apps/projects are so filled with technological hurdles as to make them ridiculous to do in Silverlight versus ASP.net? I know that with perseverance and flexibility I can probably make EVERY app in Silverlight, in some version or another, but which ones would be blatantly simple in, say ASP.net(or even WPF) but quite complicated in Silverlight? Basically what I am asking is if there is any reason I shouldn't consider Silverlight my first stop for every problem, obvious exceptions not with standing(a service or console). For me specifically, at this point, I am only building in house apps.

    Seems like this would be a common question, though I could not find it on SO. Which version of MSXML should I use in my applications, and more importantly, how should I decide? There is MSXML3, 4, 5 and 6. I recently posted some code in calling-wcf-service-by-vbscript that used MSXML v4. AnthonyWJones posted that I shouldn't use 4, but instead 3 or 6, but probably 3. Certainly not v5! Why? I'd like to know more about the criteria for selecting the version of MSXML to use in my apps. Bonus question: Does anyone have a summary of the differences between the various versions of MSXML over time? Summary so far: MSXML6 Should be first choice. was released in 2006, and includes perf and compliance fixes. Use this if you can. It's good. There are no merge modules; to bundle the MSXML6 runtime with your app, MS suggests packaging the MSXML6 msi file. MSXML6 is an upgrade from MSXML3/4 but does not replace them, because it discontinues some features. You can get the MSI here. MSXML3 Second choice. Most widely deployed version. Originally shipped in March 2000. Actively maintained, no new features. Currently supported, if you are on SP5 (shipped in 2005) or later. SP7 is current (also from 2005). MSXML5 was released only as part of MS-Office. Currently supported by Microsoft, but only as part of Office, not for building apps. Don't build apps that depend on MSXML5: Verboten. MSXML4 originally shipped? Currently in "maintenance mode". Microsoft is encouraging people to move off MSXML4 to MSXML6. Currently supported if you are on MSXML4SP2 or later, which shipped in 2003. download MSXML4SP2 here. Can be redisributed.   • Co-Authors Wordpress Plugin: coauthors_wp_list_authors function not working correctly

    The Co-Authors Plus Plugin for Wordpress has a very annoying bug. The custom function coauthors_wp_list_authors lists authors the same way the wordpress function wp_list_authors does, but it does not include authors in the list who don't have a post of their own - if they have only entries in which they are listed as co-author but not as author, they will not be included in the list. That is of course missing a very important point. I've looked at the faulty SQL statement, but unfortunately my knowledge of advanced SQL, especially when it comes to JOINs, as well as my knowledge of the wp database structure is too limited and I remain clueless. There is a topic in the WP support forum, but unfortunately the information there is very outdated and the fix is not applicable anymore. I couldn't find any other, more current solutions on the internet. I'd be glad if somewhere here could help fix the SQL statement so it also lists co-authors who don't have posts where they're the sole author, as well as display the correct post count for all authors.   • jqmodal IE (7 or 8) flashes black before modal loaded

    This is killing me. In both IE7 and 8, using jqModal, the screen flashes black before the modal content is loaded. I've set up a test app to show you what's happening. I've taken jqModal EXACTLY from the site, no changes whatsoever, no external css that could be affecting my app. It works perfectly in every other browser (including IE6). http://jqmtest.heroku.com/ So, first two links are ajax calls, second is straight up inline HTML. (I originally thought it was the ajax that was affecting it, but that doesn't seem to be the case, I then thought it was slow loading ajax, hence to two differen ajax links) What's crazy is that the jqmodal site itself works perfectly in IE, no flashing of black, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong.     Well, my fisrt question was a bit too general so i ll try again and hope this one is better. The way i see it is: Ruby-MacRuby or IronRuby or Rails Obj-c-Mac Development So Ruby has clearly more potential in desktop and web platforms and now with MacRuby, OSX native (and commercial) apps are on the way. If i get it wrong please correct me. For me that i will do a fresh start should i go with the modern Ruby or start learning c+obj-c? Will a newcomer benefit much (in learning & coding time, frustration, complexity) by learning/using macruby for osx apps rather objective-c? Or its pretty much the same? I hope some day to hang around here and help others.

    I wrote a function recently that finds maximum of two ints. However, while ICommand.Execute( object ) gets passed the set of selected notes as it should, ICommand.CanExecute( object ) (which is called when the menu is created) is getting passed null. I've checked and the selected notes collection is properly instantiated before the call is made (in fact it's assigned a value in its declaration, so it is never null). I can't figure out why CanEvaluate is getting passed null.

  • Better way to make side-by-side DIVs in CSS

    I have 2 DIV's that I want to be side-by-side under all circumstances. So far I am accomplishing it like this: <div style="float: left"> <table> ... </table> </div> <div style="float: right; overflow: scroll; width: 1000px"> <pre> ... </pre> </div> However, I don't like that I have to specify an absolute width in the 2nd div. I just want the 1st div to be the minimum width to display the table and 2nd div to take up the rest of the space without overflowing. Is there a better way?

Now, the problem I'm experiencing is that I can't get the submit buttons to look normally again. I could ofcourse remove the input from the list and be done with it, but I'd like to know how to get it back, since I might need that in the future.

REQUIREMENTS User logs in to my.domain.com and sees a list of apps/tools that they have permission to use. The user selects the tool they'd like to use and clicks the link. When the tool opens, it is able to identify that they are currently logged in and who they are to identify any unique permissions to the application. I know that each app could simply point to the same back end Membership Provider DB, however will each app require a login or will it be able to identify if the user is already logged in?

    I am trying append some XML retrieved via a dojo.XHRGet to a dijit.layout.ContentPane. Everything works ok in Firefox (3.6) but in Chrome, I only get back 'undefined' in the particular ContentPane. Is there a better way to handle the return data from the request?
