• Getting ssh to execute a command in the background on target machine

  This is a follow-on question to the How do you use ssh in a shell script? question. If I want to execute a command on the remote machine that runs in the background on that machine, how do I get the ssh command to return? When I try to just include the ampersand (&) at the end of the command it just hangs. The exact form of the command looks like this: ssh user@target "cd /some/directory; program-to-execute &" Any ideas? One thing to note is that logins to the the target machine always produce a text banner and I have ssh keys set up so no password is required.

• PHP convert latin1 to utf8 Persian txt

  I now work on a web-base PHP app to work with a MySQL Server database . database is with Latin1 Character set and all Persian texts don't show properly . database is used with a windows software Show and Save Persian texts good . I don't want to change the charset because windows software work with that charset . Question: how can convert latin1 to utf8 to show and utf8 to latin1 for saving from my web-base PHP app , or using Persian/Arabic language on a latin1 charset database without problem ? note: one of my texts is ???? ?????? when save from my windows-based software save as ÇÍãÏ ÑÍãÇäí and still show with ???? ?????? in my old windows-based software image : image of database , charsets,collation and windows-based software

• Examining mmaped addresses using GDB

  I'm using the driver I posted at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/647783/direct-memory-access-in-linux/ to mmap some physical ram into a userspace address. However, I can't use GDB to look at any of the address; i.e., x 0x12345678 (where 0x12345678 is the return value of mmap) fails with an error "Cannot access memory at address 0x12345678". Is there any way to tell GDB that this memory can be viewed? Alternatively, is there something different I can do in the mmap (either the call or the implementation of foo_mmap there) that will allow it to access this memory? Note that I'm not asking about /dev/mem (as in the first snippet there) but amount a mmap to memory acquired via ioremap(), virt_to_phys() and remap_pfn_range()

• SerialPort not taking input. It throws it back at me!

  When I try to write an AT command to my GSM modem, it does not seem to take the command. I have used PuTTY to check that the command words, it does. I have checked to see if the port is opening, it does. What could I possibly be doing wrong? • Can EC2 instances be set up to come from different IP ranges?

  I need to run a web crawler and I want to do it from EC2 because I want the HTTP requests to come from different IP ranges so I don't get blocked. So I thought distributing this on EC2 instances might help, but I can't find any information about what the outbound IP range will be. I don't want to go to the trouble of figuring out the extra complexity of EC2 and distributed data, only to find that all the instances use the same address block and I get blocked by the server anyway. NOTE: This isn't for a DoS attack or anything. I'm trying to harvest data for a legitimate business purpose, I'm respecting robots.txt, and I'm only making one request per second, but the host is still shutting me down. Edit: Commenter Paul Dixon suggests that the act of blocking even my modest crawl indicates that the host doesn't want me to crawl them and therefore that I shouldn't do it (even assuming I can work around the blocking). Do people agree with this?

• Add/remove UILocalNotification based on changes in my settings bundle

  I have an app that sends a notification at the same time everyday, reminding the user to enter data into it. However, I want to give the user teh option to disable this as this could get very annoying, so I have an "Enable alerts" in a custom settings bundle. My question is, when the user toggles the switch in the settings bundle, can I add/remove the notifications that are already scheduled without having to enter the app again? note: I'm building and supporting for iOS 4.2.1, and I don't konw why but under "notifications" in the settings app, my app does not appear. I see it on ios 5.x devices though

  Hi, I have 3 tables (Student, Course, student_course_choose(have field grade)) I defined a view on these 3 tables that get me an Average of the each student. I want to have constraint(with trigger) on these view(or on the table that need it) to limit the average of each student between 13 and 18. I somewhere read that I must use foreach statement(instead of foreach row) on trigger because when I decrease some grade of special student and his/her average become less than 13 they don't give me error (because later I increase grade of another his/her course ). how must I wrote this Trigger? (I want to implement aprh for testing trigger) note:I can write it in SQL server, oracle or Mysql no diff for me.

• Bind Data to Multiple Labels From Multiple DataSources

  I have two AccessDataSources each returning one row. I want to use the data in each row to populate content on my page, so I figured I would use a Repeater or FormView. However, I would not necessarily want the labels bound to a particular DataSource placed together. For example, I might want labels from the following columns in order (DataSourceName.ColumnName): TestSetup.TestType, TestSummary.FormattedValue, TestSetup.DeviceChannel, TestSummary.CompletedOn. How do I handle this? Do I just have a separate Repeater/FormView for each value? Can I have both Repeater's/FormView's in 'scope' at the same time? Note: No language preference (C#/VB).

• what is the idea behind scaling an image using lanczos?

  Hi, I'm interested in image scaling algorithms and have implemented the bilinear and bicubic methods. However, I have heard of the lanczos and other more sophisticated methods for even higher quality image scaling and I am very curious how they work. Could someone here explain the basic idea behind scaling an image using lanczos (both upscaling and downscaling) and why it results in higher quality? I do have a background in fourier analysis and have done some signal processing stuff in the past, but not with relation to image processing, so don't be afraid to use terms like "frequency response" and such in your answer :) EDIT: I guess what i really want to know is the concept and theory behind using a convolution filter for interpolation. (Note: i have already read the wikipedia article on lanczos resampling but it didn't have nearly enough detail for me) thanks alot!

• Why am I getting "Enter Parameter Value" when running my MS Access query?

  In my query, I use the IIF function to assign either "Before" or "After" to a field named BeforeOrAfter using AS. When I run this query, however, the "Enter Parameter Value" dialog appears, requesting a value for BeforeOrAfter. If I remove BeforeOrAfter DESC from the ORDER BY clause, I don't get the dialog. Here is the offending query: SELECT d.Scenario, e.Event, IIF(d.LogTime < e.Time, 'Before','After') AS BeforeOrAfter, d.HeartRate FROM Data d INNER JOIN Events e ON d.Scenario = e.Scenario WHERE e.Include = Yes ORDER BY d.Scenario, e.Id, BeforeOrAfter DESC Question: Why is my AS BeforeOrAfter not being recognized by the ORDER BY clause? Why does it ask me to enter a parameter value for "BeforeOrAfter" when I run this query? Note: I tried using brackets, single quotes, double quotes, etc., but none of that made any difference.

• Program crashes in debugger before anything happens

  I'm building an application for Windows XP using the MinGW tool chain and it sometimes crashes unexpectedly. So, I'm trying to use a debugger (Gdb) but the program exits with code 03 before anything happens. In fact, all I see from GDB is: [New thread 3184.0x7b8][New thread 3184.0xef8] Program exited with code 03. My suspicion is that there is some failed dynamic linking of a dependency (which are Qt, VTK, and ITK, all built with MinGW). However, this does not happen when I just run the program normally. Or if it happens, it appears to be intermittent and well after the program is launched and running. NOTE: I'm also using Cmake for cross compiling. What should I do? What can I try?

However, that code will not give any output and just keeps waiting in the tun.stdout. When I kill the newtunnel process externally, it flushes all the data to tun.stdout. So it seems that I can't get any data from the tun.stdout while it is still running. Why is that? How can I get the information? Note that the default bufsize for Popen is 0 (unbuffered). I can also specify bufsize=0 but that doesn't change anything.

  (using Python-Sphinx Documentation tool) I have a .txt log file I'd like to build into _build/html unaltered. What do I need to alter in conf.py, index.rst, etc. Here is the layout: src/ index.rst some_doc.rst somefile.txt How do I get somefile.txt into the html build? I tried adding a line like this to index.rst: Contents: .. toctree:: :maxdepth: 2 some_doc "somefile.txt" hoping it would work by magic, but no magic here! Assuming this is even possible, what would I put in some_doc.rst to refer/link to that file? Note Yes, I'm aware I could put it in /static and just be done with it, but that seems like a total hack, and ugly.

• Funny characters in my db

  My web app is breaking when I try edit a certain content type and I'm pretty sure it is because of some weird characters in my database. So when I do: SELECT body FROM message WHERE id = 666 it returns: <p>⢠<span></span></p><p><br /></p><p><em><strong>NOTE:</strong> Please remember to use your to participate in the discussion.</em></p> However when I try to count how many documents have those characters postgres complains: foo_450_prod=# SELECT COUNT(*) FROM message WHERE body LIKE'%â¢%'; ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0xe2a225 HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match the encodi Does anybody know what the issue is and how I can query for those funny characters?   I have a Websphere 6.1 EAR that I am trying to deploy and I am currently getting the following message when I add javassist-3.4.GA.jar to the EAR. Facet version for Enterprise Application project IntegrationEARProject must be 5.0 to contain Java EE 5.0 project lib //{path to file}/hibernate/R3_3_1/jars/javassist-3.4.GA.jar. Currently the Project Facets are set as folows: EAR version is 1.4 Websphere version is 6.1 Please note that we do not have any of the feature packs installed currently and I do not have the option to install the feature packs. Is there anything that can be done to get around this issue? I am coding using java 1.5. Thank you very much.

  I have a class that defined a user defined operator for a TCHAR*, like so CMyClass::operator const TCHAR*() const { // returns text as const TCHAR* } I want to be able to do something like CMyClass myClass; _tprintf(_T("%s"), myClass); or even _tprintf(_T("%s"), CMyClass(value)); But when trying, printf always prints (null) instead of the value. I have also tried a normal char* operator, as well variations with const etc. It only works correctly if I explicitly call the operator or do a cast, like _tprintf(_T("%s\n"), (const TCHAR*)myClass); _tprintf(_T("%s\n"), myClass.operator const TCHAR *()); However, I don't want to cast. How can this be achieved? Note, that a possibility is to create a function that has a parameter of const TCHAR*, so that it forcible calls the operator TCHAR*, but this I also don't want to implement.

• Can I allow a write access to a particular registry key without elevation?

  I develop an extension for Visual Studio 2005, 2008, and 2010. The Visual Studio 2005 SDK requires write access to the following registry key during builds. The normal way to handle this run Visual Studio with elevated privileges. The entire issue can be avoided if there's some way I can set permissions to allow access to this particular registry key without elevation: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0Exp Side note: This key is only used for testing Visual Studio 2005 extensions. The issue does not occur on client machines so this is just a workaround for my own development machine.

• capistrano put() and upload() both failing

  With capistrano, I am deploying a Rails application from Mac OS X 10.5 to CentOS 5.2 Note that deploy.rb and the server environment have not changed in over a year. There is a task within our deploy.rb file called upload: put(File.read( file ),"#{shared_path}/#{filename}", :via => :scp) This fails each and every time with the following exception: No such file or directory - /srv/ourapp/releases/20100104194410/config/database.yml My local copy of config/database.yml is failing to upload properly. I've verified it's not our internet connection, as this happens on three different connections and two different systems. I've also tried to swap out put() for upload() but get the same result; also, dropping :via = :scp, and/or trying to force :sftp instead similarly fails.   I have a web application from a company that has gone out of business. We're looking to extend the web app a bit with some asp.net functionality. The web app was written as an ISAPI application in Delphi, and uses COM+ to talk to the SQL Server and handles things like session management and authentication. So, in order to get the current user and other details, I have to use the undocument COM+ components. I was able to dig out the type library and auto generated IDL, but at this point i'm lost in creating a .NET proxy class for this. Is there a way to autogenerate the .net COM+ proxy either from the .dll itself (extracting the typelib info) or from the IDL? Note: These seem to be simple COM style objects hosted in COM+ servers, no subscriptions or transaction monitoring..

• How to force Weblogic to start deployments in active state (i.e. not just prepared)

  When I start a Weblogic instance with a deployed application, the deployment is sometimes left in prepared state, not in active state. I have to go to Weblogic Console and start the deployment manually, which is quite slow and annoying repetetive work. Since this is done on a development machine — sometimes 50 times a day, — there are no security implication as the server is only visible on the local network. Is there some way to have it always start the deployment active? Note that I'm not redeploying the application, I instead have it "constantly deployed" and stop/start the Weblogic instance using the scripts in bin directory.

If @status_dte < app_date Error Note: @status_dte is a variable stored as the status_dte from table1 However, I want it to throw an error when the EARLIEST status_dte from table 2 with a status_cde of 'Y' is less than the app_dte column in table 1. Keep in mind that this earliest date is not stored anywhere, the history of data changes per customer. Another customer might have the following history. Log_id customer_Id status_dte status_cde 01 002 2010-04-20 N 02 002 2010-04-18 N 03 002 2010-04-19 Y 04 002 2010-04-19 Y Any ideas on how I can approach this?
