• Connect laptop to mobile wifi

  I have a nokia N97. In my apartment there's a wifi network that we all use to connect to the internet. But for the past few days my laptop is not able to find the network..Initially I thought it was a problem of the network,but hen I found out that others were able to use it..My vista os laptop is able to detect other available networks but not the required one..Then i tried to connect my cell phone to the network and it did easily!! I tried restoring the network settings to default but it showed the network for just 2 mins and it ws back to square one.. I wanted to know can I connect my laptop to the cell using USB and browse internet through that?? I have done it when I used GPRS but am not sure if it cn be done in this situation when the cell is connected toa wifi network..plz help..

• Lot of Multicast traffic on LAN

  Recently the whole network at work is being hit by multicast traffic originating on the LAN itself. I did some investigating and the service which seems to be responsible is ws-discovery. I have attached a screenshot of wireshark capturing the traffic. I have tried shutting down the source machine from which it was originating, but the multicast traffic still seems to be present in the network. My network topology 2 subnets - 10.10.10.0/24 and 10.20.10.0/24. Gateway is a debian system. We have 3 switches for 3 floors. They are all unmanaged Dlink 24-port switches. Multicast blocking at switch level is out of the question. Any solutions? :(

• Remote Desktop Services Gateway Issue

  Alright fellow techies here's the rundown. I have installed Server 2008 r2 Remote Dekstop Services on a VM in my network. I installed the following RD role services: RD Session Host, Licensing, Connection Broker, Gateway, Web Access. When I set things up originally, the gateway server and RDWeb worked as it should locally. After getting things running locally (remoteserver.domainname.local) I wanted to test things externally. From the outside, I couldn't get things running (meaning I could connect to rdweb access externally, but when I tried to run an app I would get the message "can't connect/find computer"). Here's my setup for external access The VM has every RD Services role services installed on it, meaning it acts as gateway, rd web access, session host, licensing, the whole bit. I made a self-signed certificate on the gateway server (gateway.domainname.net is the cert name). Internally, I have a secondary forward-lookup zone called domainname.net with an A record gateway pointing to the local IP of the gateway server. On our public DNS (domainname.net) I have an A record gateway. This is to access the RDWeb externally. In IIS I have the following authentication settings RDWeb: All disabled except for anonymous authentication Rpc: All disabled except for basic and windows RpcWithCert: All disbled except for windows authentication I have the necessary web access config in our sonicwall tz210 (https and rdp, external ip pointing to local ip of rds server) RAP and CAP have the correct user and computer groups, authentication, and allowed devices After all of this, here's what happens accessing externally. I can login correctly to RDWeb Access (I've tried a bogus login, I can't login to it so that's working properly). I see the Apps for use. I click on an app, click connect, the credential window opens, I put in the correct user creds, it tries to connect to the gateway server, but then the cred window comes back in view. I tried to reach a limit of failed logins, but never reached one, haha. So from the same external client machine I try to connect to the gateway through a Remote Desktop connection. I put in the correct gateway settings in the RD window, try to connect and get the same results as I did in RDWeb access. I checked the event logs on the RD Services machine and saw the following event IDs around the time I tried to login externally: ID 6037 with the message "The program svchost.exe, with the assigned process ID 2168, could not authenticate locally by using the target name host/gateway.domainname.net. The target name used is not valid. A target name should refer to one of the local computer names, for example, the DNS host name. Try a different target name." ID 10 RADWebAccess "RD Web Access was unable to access gateway.domainname.net, which is the server that is specified as running the RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Management service. Ensure that the computer account of the RD Web Access server is a member of the TS Web Access Computers security group on gateway.domainname.net" ID 4625 "An account failed to log on. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted. The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe. The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network). The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon. The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases. I don't think the VM has a null SID. The SID of the VM and it's physical host have different SIDS. I can access the blank page for rpc externally using the external gateway name. It seems like authentication is a problem. Also, is it a problem that the external name of the gateway server doesn't match the local name? The external name (which the cert is based on) is gateway.domainname.net and the internal name is remoteserver.domainname.local. That's the only thing I can think of that would be the problem, but the external name has to be different from the local right? Internally, I ping gateway.domainname.net and it gives me the correct local IP of the server. Now, there isn't an actual computer name in AD, but I don't know how I would achieve that? I hope I've been clear....any help would be appreciated. I think I'm close to achieving this. :)

• Replicating EFS encrypted files

  Recently I attempted to configure Microsoft's DFSR on Windows 2008 R2 to replicate a folder which was encrypted with EFS. The setup gave no errors or warnings, but later I read that DFSR does not support EFS in any way. There were also event logs in the DFSR event log indicating an encrypted file was found and wont be replicated. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773238(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_052 My question is, are there any tools that would allow this to occur? Software based preferably.This would be replicating over LAN to destination node for two servers on the same domain.

The goal - an Active/Active cluster for web server data How do I go about telling the cluster to be active for both nodes? Do I have to tell the cluster to be active/active? In Features View, double-click Directory Browsing. In the Actions pane, click Enable if the Directory Browsing feature is disabled and you want to enable it. Or, click Disable if the Directory Browsing feature is enabled and you want to disable it. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731109%28WS.10%29.aspx However, my IIS console doesn't have the Directory Browsing option mentioned in Step 2. How can this option be made available. Note, this is for a static HTML site, so I don't have any web.config or ASPX files.

  I had git working before on /var/html/projectfolder and realized it was a security risk so I made a new folder /projects from the root folder and tried to replicate what I did and now it doesnt work.   I am trying to follow the instructions in this article to create a custom certificate to support SSL on a web server. I'm stick on the following step: Click on Personal – All Tasks – Advanced Operations – Create Custom request The problem is that on the web server (Windows Server 2003 R2) I don't have an "Advanced Operations" option under "All Tasks". I do on my desktop machine (Windows 7), but not on the server. All the documentation I can find indicates that it should be available on WS-2003-R2, but it just isn't. Note: I'm going through this manual process because I need to specify a alternate host names in the CSR, which you can't do through the IIS 6.0 console certificate managment functionality. Any suggestions for how to make this option show up?

  Setting ACLs on Windows Server 2008 via the command line is giving me some problems. However, each try leads to i.e. "Invalid parameter "'NETWORK'"" depending on the variation above. As per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753525%28WS.10%29.aspx (see in comments), it appears that others have experienced the same issue where the same command works on Windows 7/Vista/etc., but not on Windows Server 2008. What's the best way to apply permissions to Network Service account on a directory and/or files via the command line in Windows Server 2008? Especially as there's no way to do multiple file permissions at once via the GUI (see http://serverfault.com/questions/30991/windows-server-2008-change-security-settings-for-multiple-files-at-once).

• Why has ESXi 5.0 not used the software RAID configuration on my test server?

  I've got a test server which was running WS 2008 Enterprise on the bare metal. It was correctly using the software RAID 1 configuration (2x250 GB disks which appeared as one disk), setup on the Dell Poweredge T110 (which meets compatibility requirements) without requiring any extra setup from me. (As an aside I'm fairly sure it's software RAID, as we didn't spec a hardware RAID controller, if that's of any importance in this situation). I am now testing installing ESXi 5.0 on this server to run some VMs. I've successfully installed ESXi, and imported a VM fine, but it's showing 2 x 250 GB disks available as datastores. However they should be appearing as one volume. When I boot the server, there is a RAID configuration screen you can enter, and I'm guessing this is what I'll have to do at some stage, but now need to be very careful because there is one disk which contains data that I want to be mirrored on the other disk. What is the best thing to do in this situation?

• Websphere 7: Getting 'Internal Server Error' when accessing JSPs. Servlets ok

  I have just installed WS 7 on our stage server. The test server was done some months ago. I have deployed the same applications to stage as on test. One application is causing me problems. I call the login servlet but the result is an 'Internal Server Error' message. From my logs I can see that the servlet processed the log in successfully and redirects to a JSP. That is the last message. I can find no further info in any of the other standard out/err logs. I have tried creating a simple JSP containing only HTML - same error. If I rename the file to test.html, it displays correctly. The plugin configuration appears to be identical with the one on the test server (where everything works) Ideas anyone?

I would like to buy a hardware for that and i am trying to understand if i should buy a desktop and host the webserver on that or do i have to buy some used server from ebay and host on it. I see vssadmin.exe has a "create shadow" option, but that's available only on server SKUs: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc788055(v=ws.10).aspx I've a backup tool that replicates changes (creations, modifications and deletions to files and directories) since last backup, to my backup volume. Before each time this happens I want to create a persistent snapshot on my backup volume. • Spotify stopped scrobbling to libre.fm - unable to login

  I've set Spotify up to scrobble to libre.fm using the hosts file hack, as specified on the wiki, adding these two entries to my hosts file. 149.20.54.250 post.audioscrobbler.com 149.20.54.250 ws.audioscrobbler.com This worked for a while. However, Spotify now tells me that it can't log in to libre.fm. I've double checked my username and password. I haven't changed anything else. Using nslookup confirms that the above names resolve to the correct IPs. So, how do I fix this?

• Web map services displaying poorly

  Web map services no longer display correctly in ArcGIS and Google Earth - no one else on network is experiencing these. Using windows 7 OS. These problem began abruptly (1 day they were working, the next they were not). Specific problems include not displaying at all; correct display on 10% of the monitor and repeating lines of coloured squiggles and text on the remaining 90%; and small, widely spaced, pixels in place of colour fill. • HyperV management through Windows 8

  Consider the following setup: 1 Hypervisor 3 Clients (Server 2012 with AD, Server 2012, Windows 8). Now we can remote desktop into the Hypervisor and manage the VMs with the manager. This also works from the Server 2012 (I installed the manager there). But it doesn't work from the Windows 8 machine. All machines are in the same domain. Am I forgetting something? I followed this long page http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc794756(v=ws.10).aspx But I find it so weird that it works for the same user on Windows Server 2012, but not on Windows 8.

Please note that when I test the zVersion2wsSQL webservice independently (from INETMGR right-mouse and click Browse) it works as expected (i.e. presenting all the methods of the webservice) like this snippet: GetMessageByType MessageName="Get_x0020_Message_x0020_By_x0020_Type" I can test this webmethod by clicking on it and it presents the Test dialog (because it takes a simple datatype and I am invoking it on localhost (i.e. MOJITO): **Get Message By Type** **Test** To test the operation using the HTTP POST protocol, click the 'Invoke' button. • overloaded stream insertion operator with a vector

  hi, i'm trying to write an overloaded stream insertion operator for a class who's only member is a vector. i dont really know what i'm doing. (lets make that clear) it's a vector of "Points" which is a struct containing two doubles. i figure what i want is to insert user input (a bunch of doubles) into a stream that i then send to a modifier method? i keep working off other stream insertion examples such as... std::ostream& operator<< (std::ostream& o, Fred const& fred) { return o << fred.i_; } but when i try a similar..... istream & operator >> (istream &inStream, Polygon &vertStr) { inStream >> ws; inStream >> vertStr.vertices; return inStream; } i get an error "no match for operator etc etc. if i leave off the .vertices it compiles but i figure it's not right? • Maven/Spring/Java: ClassNotFoundException - but I know class is there...

  I have 2 maven projects set up like this: -com.wuntee.rsaAuthenticationManager (jar) -com.wuntee.taac (pom) --taac-backend-gui (jar) --taac-web (war) And 'com.wuntee.rsaAuthenticationManager' is a dep in 'taac-backend-gui'. When running a test case in taac-backend-gui, everything executes fine, but when trying to start the taac-web, I get the following ClassNotFoundException - the library that contains the class 'weblogic.security.SSL.TrustManager' is also in my local maven repository, and set as a dependency of com.wuntee.rsaAuthenticationManager. Does anyone know why I would be getting this error? I have also attempted to directly add the library containing TrustManager to the taac-web project, and still get the same Exception. Any ideas?
