• How do I make an About window the front-most window in a Cocoa application with no UI?

  I'm building a Cocoa application that runs as an item in the status bar. This application has an About window and an item to activate that about window, using the standard Cocoa mechanism for doing so (-[NSApplication orderFrontStandardAboutPanel:]). Naturally this is all hooked up automagically. It works great except for one thing: unlike most About windows, it shows up underneath all other windows, rather than on top. I believe this is because the application does not have a UI, so all its windows are automatically beneath other windows. Is there a way I can hook into the NSApplication mechanism for displaying the About window so I can send it to the front? I've poked around in the docs for NSApplication, but there's no way to get a reference to the About window that I can see so that I can make it appear on top.

• Screen recorder for tracking back your steps while debugging?

  I am wondering whether there is a screen recorder that is usable for checking what exactly you did a couple of minutes ago while debugging, or just checking what value for a variable was displayed the last time you hit that breakpoint etc. (Of course this latter question would be something terrific for an IDE to implement, but I've never seen something like that so far. :-) For this you would need a screen recorder that could record all day and preferably automatically delete the recording the recording that is, say, older than an hour. Probably the recording format should be something that is good for screen recording instead of natural scenes. Do you know a screen recorder like that or at least one that comes close?

  What I have: A person daily send to me an email, which has a zip'ed XML attachment. What I do: I save that attachment, unpack it and import via XML importerer to my web site. What I need: Automatic script, what I can automatically forward my email to ex.: [email protected] and read that attachment via some php file in my website, which maybe will be activated daily via server cronjob. Is it possible to code this? And maybe someone has any pre-coded scripts. Thanks for answers.

• Is memcached a dinosaur in comparison to Redis?

  Hi everyone, I have worked quite a bit with memcached the last weeks and just found out about Redis. When I read this part of their readme, I suddenly got a warm, cozy feeling in my stomach: Redis can be used as a memcached on steroids because is as fast as memcached but with a number of features more. Like memcached, Redis also supports setting timeouts to keys so that this key will be automatically removed when a given amount of time passes. This sounds amazing. I'd also found this page with benchmarks: http://www.ruturaj.net/redis-memcached-tokyo-tyrant-mysql-comparison So, honestly - Is memcache really that old dinousaur that is a bad choice from a performance perspective when compared to this newcomer called Redis? I haven't heard lot about Redis previously, thereby the approach for my question!

• How might I assume a "default value" when parsing using boost::spirit?

  Let's say I have a grammar defined to something like: a b c d where c, and d are optional and default to 14 if not given. Can I get it to automatically return the 14 if the value isn't given? The closest I've come is like the following: qi::rule<Iterator, std::vector<int>(), ascii::space_type> some_rule; some_rule %= >> int_ >> int_ >> -int_ >> -int_; // ... some_other_rule = some_rule[&some_callback_for_int_vectors]; which will then get 0 for the optional values that didn't show up (I believe). I then change consecutive 0s at the end into 14. Not only is this horribly wrong, but its also just not elegant. Is there a better way to do this?

  I am learning JPA and have confusion in the @SequenceGenerator annotation. Upto my understanding, it automatically assigns a value to numeric identity fields/properties of an entity. Q1. Does this sequence generator make use of the database's increasing numeric value generating capability or generates the number on his own? Q2. If JPA uses database auto increement feauture, then will it work with datastores that don't have auto increement feature? Q3. If JPA generate numeric value on his own, then how the JPA implementation knows which value to generate next? Does it consult with the database first to see what value was stored last so as to generate the value (last + 1). ====================================================================================== Q4. Please also throw some light on sequenceName and allocationSize properties of @SequenceGenerator annotation.

• More 'Edit' navigation item

  I am using a UITabBarController as well as a UINavigationController on my app. In my UITabBarController I am using more than 5 items so I automatically get the 'More' item. I've managed to add a saving procedure so the order of those items will be kept in case somebody changes the order etc. With 'More' active I get the More navigation controller with the 'Edit' item positioned under my UINavigationController. Both navigation controller are visible. When I click on 'Edit though the More navigation controller disappears and seem to be hiding under my UINavigationController and therefore I can't see/use the 'Done' function to save my new order What did I miss?   is it possible to align the stroke of a graphic with actionscript? for example, the following code creates a black rounded rect with a grey stroke that is automatically centre aligned. var t:Sprite = new Sprite(); t.graphics.lineStyle(5, 0x555555); t.graphics.beginFill(0, 1); t.graphics.drawRoundRect(25, 25, 200, 75, 25, 25); t.graphics.endFill(); the lineStyle function doesn't seem to offer any built-in functionality for aligning the stroke. in Adobe Illustrator, you can align a stroke to be either centre (default), inside or outside.

• iphone float vs integer rounding?

  Okay, from what I understand, an integer that is a fraction will be rounded one way or the other so that if a formula comes up with say 5/6 - it will automatically round it to 1. I have a calculation: xyz = ((1300 - [abc intValue])/6) + 100; xyz is defined as an NSInteger, abc is an NSString that is chosen via a UIPicker. I want the calculation (1300 - [abc intValue]) to add 1 to 100 for each 6 units below 1300. For example, 1255 should result in xyz having a value of 100 and 1254 should result in a value of 101. Now, I understand that my formula above is wrong because of the rounding principles, but I am getting some CRAZY results from the program itself. When I punched in 1259 - I got 106. When I punched in 1255 - I got 107. Why would it behave that way?

  Can anyone tell me how to show animated progress bar while the data from an Excel sheet to a SQL database table is being transfered? I have a form in .aspx page. In that form, there is one FileUpload control that uploads an Excel file. While uploading that file and saving it on the server at the same time I'm transferring the data from the Excel sheet to a SQL table. During this transfer, I want to show a ProgressBar and after transferring all data it will be removed automatically.. Is there something I can do to achieve this?

  How do I make extra initializations on a modal dialog before calling DoModal(); ? The whole application is created using VS wizards. I have a main Dialog (the one that is created automatically when I select new MFC Application in Visual Studio 2008 Professional). When I click a button on this dialog I want to open another dialog and set a CString value into a CEdit control. my code: ... void MainDlg::OnClickedButtonX(){ SecondDialogClass Dlg2; Dlg2.asocVar2Cedit.SetWindowTextW(L"my text"); Dlg2.DoModal(); } //asocVar2Cedit is the associeted control variable to the //CEdit control on the second Dialog (Right Click > Add Variable.. in VSC++) ... this code generates at runtime a "Debug Assertion" error in winocc... • What's causing “Session state has created a session id, but cannot save it because the response was

  I'm getting this fault intermittently. I found this link which summarises fairly well what I was able to find on the Google: http://www.wacdesigns.com/2009/02/03/session-state-has-created-a-session-id-but-cannot-save-it-because-the-response-was-already-flushed-by-the-application/ Basically it says you can try setting the web config setting DisplayWhenNewSession, or try kicking the session state thing into life by getting the Session.SessionID in the Session_OnStart. But does anyone: a) have an explanation for this or even better, b) have a tried and tested fix I realise that I can't flush the response after doing anything that would affect the http response header. If I did this it would cause an error every time but this is intermittent. The SessionID should surely be created by ASP.NET at the beginning of the page response automatically, before anything in the ASPX page or the Page_Load (which is where all my flushes are called).

  Hello, I am posting this question as I couldn't find the answer (which is probably very easy, but apparently not for me) anywhere.. I am new to FreshBooks (no only the API) and I want to use it for some automatically generated invoices. I was trying to run some of the source code examples (the PHP and JS libraries in particular): http://developers.freshbooks.com/api/samplecode/ The problem is that I get an error message: "Connection error" Do I need to set up anything else in the example files besides my API and token obtained from the FreshBooks site? • If file contains certain text, how can I extract a string from the file and input it into a cell? (VBA)

  Say I have the following path and file name: P:\Actuary\Cash Flow Forecast\Annual and Quarterly Budget Data\ECMQA 2012Q1.xls I want to write an if then statement that does the following (not sure if my statement is set up properly): If InStr(1, "P:\Actuary\Cash Flow Forecast\Annual and Quarterly Budget Data\ECMQA 2012Q1.xls", "QA", vbTextCompare) > 0 Then BD.Sheets("Sheet1").Range("C2").value = "2012Q1" End If Instead of just inputting "2012Q1", I want it to automatically read this from the file. The thing is I am actually looping through 12 or so files and there's two types, "ECMQA 2012Q1.xls" (or ECMQB 2012Q2.xls and so on) AND "ECM Annual Budget 2012.xlsx" If my file is the annual one (If file contains "Annual"), then I want: BD.Sheets("Sheet1").Range("C2").value = "2012" And i want it to read this from the actual file, same as the other one...not me putting in "2012" Is there a way to do this? Any help will be appreciated!

• Any way to surround code block with Curly Braces {} in VS2008?

  I always find myself needing to enclose a block of code in curly braces { }, but unfortunately that isn't included in the C# surround code snippets, which seems to be an oversight. I couldn't find anything on building your own surround snippets either (just other kinds of snippets). I am actually running Resharper too, but it doesn't seem to have this functionality either (or I haven't figured how to activate it). We have a coding standard of including even a single line of code after an if or else in curly braces, so if I could just make Resharper do that refactor automatically that would be even better!

• Google checkout callback API sending ack but nothing else?

  I am putting together a test google checkout implementation and I cannot seem to get the code in the responsehandler demo to do anything aside from send acknowledgements. Even something as simple as uncommenting the folling lines case 'CHARGEABLE': { $Grequest->SendProcessOrder($data[$root]['google-order-number']['VALUE']); $Grequest->SendChargeOrder($data[$root]['google-order-number']['VALUE'],''); break; Isn't having the expected effect of causing the order to automatically be charged. The error log googlecheckout creates has no errors in it, and the message log shows that xml is being properly recieved and acknlowlegments are sent. Does anyone have a clue on how to start troubleshooting this? I am still rather fresh with PHP.

• How can I use a prefix for the fields in my strongly typed View?

  Hi, I have an EditProfile action in my PersonController, that finds a Person object by ID and does return View(person). The EditProfile view has a bunch of fields that should be filled in with the information from the Person object. One of the fields is named "Person.FirstName", and is not filled in automatically when the View is rendered. However, if I rename the textbox to "FirstName", it gets filled in. My question is: How can I specify to the view that it should use the "Person" prefix when filling in the information from the Person object? The reason I want to do this is because of consistency - in some of my views I allow the user to edit more than one object at the same time, and use prefixes in order to bind these correctly.

• Dreamweaver recordset filter - Display all records as default

  I am trying to create a simple search form to filter the results in the dynamic table. The search form is on the same pages as the results and posts to itself. I get the search string from the post variable. It is working, but I can't figure out how to set the default value to display all results. Dreamweaver automatically sets the default value to -1, and therefore no results are displayed on the initial load. How do I change this to display ALL records as default and the filter only if there is search string defined.

• Stop PHP from creating arrays in $_POST superglobal

  PHP will automatically convert <input type="text" name="foo[0]" value="x" /> <input type="text" name="foo[1]" value="y" /> into $_POST['foo'] = array( 0 => 'x', 1 => 'y' ); Which is what you want most of the time. However, in this case I would like this not to happen. Is there anyway to tell PHP to not do this? I realize I could parse php://input myself, but I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it. I also don't have the option of renaming the input names.

• How to stop C# compile on first error in VS 2010 (VS 2008 macros don't work)!

  At work we have a C# solution with over 80 projects. Is it possible in VS 2010 to automatically stop compilation as soon as an error is encountered rather than the default behaviour which is to continue as far as possible and display a list of errors in the error window? I'm happy for it to stop either as soon as an error is encountered (file-level) or as soon as a project fails to build (project-level). I'd also note that in VS 2008 we used macros similar to some of the answers below but they don't work in VS 2010 (at least I couldn't get them to as the environment events don't seem to fire in VS 2010).

  I'm using the Colorbox module in Drupal 7. I'm opening an external website. I can make it work with a link. Click here, then click the "colorbox popup" link at the bottom, middle column. The client would like this to open automatically when the page opens. Unfortunately the value which is coming from the database is getting automatically html escaped -- which I do now want it to -- how do I suppress this?
