• Mouse wheel on Dell Vostro V13

  I have a Dell Vostro V13, which Canonical claim is "Certified" for Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/make/Dell/laptops). So it surprises me that the synaptics trackpad isn't recognised as such and defaults to psmouse emulation. This means no multitouch, no gestures, and more importantly, no mousewheel scrolling. Because it's not loading the synaptic driver, running gpointing-device-settings doesn't help. I've found this bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/380126 which suggests a fix has been committed, but I can't see a way of getting this loaded on my Maverick build. I've tried backports and proposed repos in synaptic, but no joy. Any ideas?

• Unity mouse input not working in webplayer build

  I have a button script with the following code void OnMouseDown() { animation.Play("button-squish"); enlarged = true; audio.PlayOneShot(buttonSound); } void OnMouseUpAsButton() { if (enlarged) { SelectThisButton(); enlarged = false; animation.Play("button-return"); } } void OnMouseExit() { if (enlarged) { enlarged = false; animation.Play("button-return"); } } It works great in the editor, but when I made a build and tested it in Chrome none of the buttons had any response. Further testing revealed that it did work in Firefox. Rather than telling people to change their browser if they want to play, I want to make the button code work. How else can I get the buttons to know when they're being pressed if the built-in stuff isn't working?

  If considering to develop a web browser based game with multiple people and it's an RPG, click to move would probably be the only choice in movement right? Because if you were to use WASD and then ajax to the server every second that a player held on to the WASD key, that'd be pretty resource intensive if the server had to calculate the position and return the map image, assuming the next few screens are already buffered right? or is there a way to implement a WASD style and still have server side do all the calculations. (server side calculations to avoid cheating)

I also didn’t want to simply use a console window as a way of gathering events so I decided to use a windows form instead. The task I set myself was this. • Cannot move/drag/drop windows/items in remote VNC session

  I find it a little hard to believe that no one here has asked this question, I tried searching for it but it isn't asked, so here goes: I setup a Ubuntu desktop computer with VNC to use as a server. And use another Ubuntu desktop computer to VNC into it. The rest of the VNC works ok, but drag and drop with mouse is gone. Thus I can not move windows, or drag and drop items via VNC. I am using the default remote desktop in System - Preferences to setup my server. And use Remmina as my client. The same happens using MS Windows's VNC clients connecting to my Ubuntu desktop. I did a bit of searching on google, and there are actually a lot of reports regarding this issue. But, oddly there is no solution. There are even bug reports made for this since Ubuntu 9.10, yet here it still is in Ubuntu 11.04. There have been suggestions that the bugs is in gtk, as see in link below: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1497635&page=2 libgtk2.0-0 stable(lenny) -> DnD works libgtk2.0-0 lenny-backport (libgtk2.0-0_2.18.6-1~bpo50+1_i386) -> DnD still works libgtk2.0-0 testing (libgtk2.0-0_2.20.1-2_i386) -> DnD broken please don't give answers such as "use NX", "use ssh -x" or "use x11vnc". I am aware that some people don't have this problem with x11vnc, and I have setup x11vnc before, but i can't for this setup. I am setting this up so Windows only friends/families can use it.

• SSD on USB 3.0 doesnt always mount

  I would like to ask you for some support for this issue. The SSD I use is apparently slightly damaged. Atm it shows this popular Corsair Series 3 problem. symptom: the disk is working for some minutes and then just suddenly stops. Two months ago it worked like a charm. This was my boot device in these days. So now I still need to copy some data out of the device which leads me to my question. Usually the SSD is working again for some minutes, when i unplug and replug its power. It gets detected by the system again and I can continue my backup. The problem on Ubuntu is, that it is not recognized again after two or three replugs. I have to reboot to bring it back. To specify this situation: when i unplug and replug my USB mouse before i reboot it is not recognized as well. So something seems to be wrong with the system also. my question: how do i fix this rebooting issue? I will post all the logs you need to analyse. The problem doesnt depend on the interface. So I wrote this section of code to do the post logon command and then check to see if im logged in after.   I am trying to use dozer to map between classes. I have a source class that looks like this: public class initRequest{ protected String id; protected String[] details } I have a destination class that looks like this: public class initResponse{ protected String id; protected DetailsObject detObj; } public class DetailsObject{ protected List<String> details; } So essentially i want the string in the details array to be populated into the List in the Details object. • How to populate Java (web) application with initial data using Spring/JPA/Hibernate

  I want to setup my database with initial data programmatically. I want to populate my database for development runs, not for testing runs (it's easy). The product is built on top of Spring and JPA/Hibernate. Developer checks out the project Developer runs command/script to setup database with initial data Developer starts application (server) and begins developing/testing then: Developer runs command/script to flush the database and set it up with new initial data because database structures or the initial data bundle were changed What I want is to setup my environment by required parts in order to call my DAOs and insert new objects into database. I do not want to create initial data sets in raw SQL, XML, take dumps of database or whatever. I want to programmatically create objects and persist them in database as I would in normal application logic. One way to accomplish this would be to start up my application normally and run a special servlet that does the initialization. But is that really the way to go? I would love to execute the initial data setup as Maven task and I don't know how to do that if I take the servlet approach. There is somewhat similar question. I took a quick glance at the suggested DBUnit and Unitils. But they seem to be heavily focused in setting up testing environments, which is not what I want here. DBUnit does initial data population, but only using xml/csv fixtures, which is not what I'm after here. Then, Maven has SQL plugin, but I don't want to handle raw SQL. Maven also has Hibernate plugin, but it seems to help only in Hibernate configuration and table schema creation (not in populating db with data). How to do this?

  In Java2D when you use setOpaque I am a little confused on what the true and false does. For example I know that in Swing Opaque means that when painting Swing wont paint what is behind the component. Or is this backwards? Which one is it? Thanks
