• Cocos2D Command-Line Application

  Is it possible to create a terminal application which uses cocos2d? I've tried to make one using cocos2d 2.x, but it requires a MacGLView to be initialized. I need it so that I could program a terminal application that generates a screenshot given a TMX file and an optional preferred width or height parameter (for resizing). Then I can automate the generation of map previews for my game, instead of manually taking screenshots. It's not practical to load the actual TMX and resize it inside the game (what I'm currently doing), because each TMX file has 7 layers, my tile sheet is huge, and I have lots of levels.

• How to make a minimal upgrade?

  I use apt-get install --no-install-recommends ubuntu-desktop to install minimal desktop. I want to upgrade my system to the latest version (12.04) with it still being minimal. How do I do that? What I tried:- I tried Update Manager, and it gave me the Option to upgrade to 11.10 first, then to 12.04. What happened after I upgraded to 11.10 is that my desktop got bloated, and instead of the system using 500MB of RAM, now it uses about 1.5GB I can't even start apps anymore.

  I am just messing around, trying to figure out how stuff works and right now I have a couple questions about HTML, JS and CSS engines. I know there are two major JavaScript engines out there - V8 and JavaScriptCore (WebKit's JS engine as far as I know). Is that correct? And what are the main HTML + CSS renderers out there? Let's say I want to build a web browser using V8 (I saw it has some documentation and stuff + I like the way it works), what are the best options for me? Partially another question. Is there any bare browser that uses V8 and runs on Ubuntu at least? P.S. I am a Ubuntu user and prefer C++.

• Saving more corsor positions (with tput?) in bash terminal

  I know that tput sc saves the current cursor position and tput rc restores it exactly where tput sc was called. The problem is that every time tput sc is called, it overwrites the previous saved position. Is there a way to save more positions, e.g. tput sc pos1 and tput sc pos2 which can be restored with, say, tput rc pos1 and tput rc pos2 respectively? (The solution need not make use of tput, I mentioned it because it's the only command I know that handles cursor position) If not, is there a way to at least save the cursor position locally in a function, so that if a function uses tput sc and then calls another function that runs again tput sc, then each function restores its own saved cursor position when invoking tput rc?   I'm trying to work out how to use this function glTexCoordPointer. The man page states that I must set a pointer to the first element of the array that uses the texture cordinate.   I recently read that Guild Wars 2 uses a system where the creation of quests depends on which actions user took when they were presented another quest. An example was: There might be a quest to protect a person. If users do not take this action, the person might be kidnapped and later there is a quest to rescue this person. Is there any information on whether the creation of these quests is somehow automatic? From the article it sounded like automatically, but from the specific example you could also guess that people just created a task-set where they added conditions (Task 1 taken: OK; Task 1 not taken: Show Task 2). From what I heard about AI they might also have implemented some sort of a huge neural network to make decisions?

• Why is Web SQL database deprecated?

  I am making a hybrid Android app. At first I decided to use localStorage, after spending 2 days, I realized that it is very strange and so dropped it. Then, I picked up indexedDB, after spending today's whole day and actually getting the output in Google Chrome, it is not running inside a WebView of the android app. And I never used Web SQL database at all because it was deprecated. Anyhow, it has come to my notice that PhoneGap still uses Web SQL and android's browsers support it. Why was Web SQL deprecated in the first place? And will it be a good idea for me to go with Web SQL now?

• wordpress login encryption

  I am running wordpress with woocommerce and theme_my_login plugins. When a user registers on my site it sends them a confirmation email and then they can click to activate account. Problem is when the user goes to login they get an error of incorrect password. If the user uses the forgot password link and resets the password then they can login without any errors. What might cause this problem? Is the password being encrypted with the wrong method? • Installing multi-boot Linux system

  I have a dual (XP/Linux) boot Compaq Presario S4500UK with a couple of spare partitions on the boot drive which I want to use for testing different Linux distros/configs before installing them on "live" machines. I tried this with Oneiric which worked fine until I came to uninstalling the test system. Fortunately Oneiric uses Grub2 and so redirecting the bootloader to work from the original Linux partition was a piece of cake - if a bit annoying. I now need to do some tests on Hardy and DSL (Damned Small Linux), neither of which use Grub2. Question: Is it possible to install a test operating system without adding/replacing the bootloader (ie so I can still use Grub2 from the original partition with its nice interface and recovery facilities)? Is there another way of uninstalling/decommisioning a test OS which doesn't trash the boot loader? (The only way I know to do this is by deleting/reformatting the partition which takes with it the bootloader which is in that partition). Any help would be much appreciated. Tks jg1

• What tool do you use to create SVGT icons for your app?

  This is a question mainly for Symbian developers. I would like to create some demo apps to put on my mobile phone and have some kind of nice icon on the application grid. If I've understood correctly, the application grid icon needs to be in SVG Tiny format. The problem is I don't have any toolset to create such a format. There don't seem to be any free tools to edit or convert to SVG Tiny format. The cheapest option around seems to be e-Picture Pro for $169. Inkscape has had some initiative to make it SVGT-compliant, but not much seems to be happening there lately. So the question in short is how do you create your icons for your Symbian apps (or other uses that require SVG Tiny)?

• Why do the Nouveau drivers work better than the Nvidia ones?

  I have a bit of a weirdie here. My rig uses an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS in a PCIE x16 slot. Up to about a year ago, no problems with the card. I then started getting random crashes. They got more frequent. Now, first thought: It's an old card. But I don't have the bucks to buy a new one, and my mobo doesn't have the DVI input that my monitor needs. So, I decided to take a shot with the Nouveau drives. Amazingly, they have worked flawlessly. Does anyone have a guess as to why?

It only actually tells users how to run JS code on page 311, where users are told of the following solutions: "Client-side JavaScript code is embedded within HTML documents in four ways: Inline, between a pair of <script> and </script> tags From an external file specified by the src attribute in a <script> tag In an HTML event handler attribute, such as onclick or onmouseover In a URL that uses the special javascript: protocol." I was wondering what professional JS developers use to write and test their code: Do they use a good text editor with syntax high-lighting + autocompletion, hit F5 in the browser to reload the page every time they make a change, and use some add-on in the browser to investigate errors? Or are there full-fledged IDE's similar to MS VisualStudio for non-web languages?

  I develop an android application and in my app I use a libary (jar) that I download from the internet. This jar is open-source under the "GNU General Public License v2". I tried to read the text of the license but had difficulty understanding it. My question is: can I use this libary without changing nothing in the jar in a commercial application? I will be making profit from selling my app which uses this GPL-ed .jar file. If possible, I would like to avoid converting my application to open-source.

• How do I ensure all of the ports on my machine are open or reachable?

  I was testing port connectivity on my machine because WoW (which uses TCP ports 3724, 6112, and 6881-6999) couldn't connect to the Internet. So I downloaded PFPortChecker application and ran it using Wine (v1.3). After I tried to check every port, it seems like they're not reachable/closed. Why is that? My firewall is disabled so why is this happening? How can I open these ports and how can I see if these ports are opened or not? Also, how can I determine which application is using them?

  I have a site done in Rails, which uses javascript to load files and generate forms for the user to input certain information. Those files and parameters are then to be used in a fortran code on the server. When the UI was on the server (using Qt), I would create a parameters file and execute the fortran code using threads so I wouldn't block the computer. Now that is web-based, I need to make the server and browser talk. What's the procedure for that? where should I start looking? I'm already using rails + javascript. I need that extra tool to do the talking, and no idea where to start.

  There are some new size units with CSS 3, which allows you to resize elements relative to the viewport size. They are vw, vh, vmin (that’s vm in IE), and perhaps vmax. (Viewport width, height, smaller of the two, larger of the two.) 8vw is 8% of the viewport width – or 205 pixels on my 2560 screen. I created a tiny demo clock which sizes the elements so that it uses the whole screen. Clock – in Norwegian, but it’s the source that is interesting… Bug: Resize does not work. Tested for IE 9 & 10 and Chrome. Firefox and Safari: does not work.
