• Check if there are any repeated elements in an array recursively

  I have to find recursively if there is any repeated element in an integer array v. The method must have the following signature: boolean hasRepeatedElements(int[] v) I can't see any way of doing that recursively without having to define another method or at least another overload to this method (one that takes for example the element to go after or something). At first I thought about checking for the current v if there is some element equal to the first element, then creating a new array with L-1 elements etc but that seems rather inefficient. Is it the only way? Am I missing here something?

• Javascript form validation/sanitizing do i need regex here ?

  I have a single form input that is for checking domains. Sometimes people type in www. before the domain or .com after the domain name. The service that i use to check availability automatically checks for all top level domains so when people add the .com at the end it becomes redundant. For example the string submitted is domainname.com.com which is clearly invalid. I understand you can do this on the server side but due to some rather weird circumstance i must use javascript for this. So is regex the solution here ? If so is there some kind of regex generator i can use for this or can someone point me in the right direction with a code snippet perhaps ? Appreciate any help thanks!

I am just asking this out of curiosity!

• MySQL date query only returns one year, when multiple exist

  I'm a part-time designer/developer with a part-time photography business. I've got a database of photos with various bits of metadata attached. I want to query the database and return a list of the years that photos were taken, and the quantity of photos that were taken in that year. In short, I want a list that looks like this: 2010 (35 photos) 2009 (67 photos) 2008 (48 photos) Here's the query I'm using: SELECT YEAR(date) AS year, COUNT(filename) as quantity FROM photos WHERE visible='1' GROUP BY 'year' ORDER BY 'year' DESC Instead of churning out all the possible years (the database includes photos from 2010-2008), this is the sole result: 2010 (35 photos) I've tried a lot of different syntax but at this point I'm giving in and asking for help!

• I DISTINCTly hate MySQL (help building a query)

  This is staight forward I believe: I have a table with 30,000 rows. When I SELECT DISTINCT 'location' FROM myTable it returns 21,000 rows, about what I'd expect, but it only returns that one column. What I want is to move those to a new table, but the whole row for each match. My best guess is something like SELECT * from (SELECT DISTINCT 'location' FROM myTable) or something like that, but it says I have a vague syntax error. Is there a good way to grab the rest of each DISTINCT row and move it to a new table all in one go?

• Conditional Regex Replace in C# without MatchEvaluator

  So, Im trying to make a program to rename some files. For the most part, I want them to look like this, [Testing]StupidName - 2[720p].mkv But, I would like to be able to change the format, if so desired. If I use MatchEvaluators, you would have to recompile every time. Thats why I don't want to use the MatchEvaluator. The problem I have is that I don't know how, or if its possible, to tell Replace that if a group was found, include this string. The only syntax for this I have ever seen was something like (?<group>:data), but I can't get this to work. Well if anyone has an idea, im all for it.

  I need to parse JavaDoc (documentation) comment syntax with Delphi 7. It is well known in the java world as "JavaDoc", but I'm actually doing this for PHP, ie, parsing JavaDoc in some PHP code. Call it PHPDoc if you want to. To see how these comments work, you can see RAD IDEs like NetBeans etc. Example of JavaDoc for addition function: /** * Adds to numbers together. * @param integer $a The first number. * @param integer $b The second number. * @return integer The resulting number. */ function add($a,$b){ return $a+$b; } Please note that the parser need not be full, ie, parsing all of the PHP code. • How can I use linq to build an object from 1 row of data?

  Hi All, I have a quick linq question. I have a stored proc that should return one row of data. I would like to use a lambda to build an object. Here's what I'm currently doing which works, but I know I should be able to use First instead of Select except I can't seem to get the syntax correct. Can anyone straighten me out here? • Anyone who actually got Tycho to work?

  I'm trying to get Tycho working with m2eclipse. Problem is that all I find are outdated sites and old versions to download. I've found my way to hxxp://github.com/sonatype/sonatype-tycho and downloaded the source. Problem is that the guide at https://docs.sonatype.org/display/TYCHO/BuildingTycho isn't of much help. When trying to build I run into an error message saying I'm using invalid syntax..... And there seems to be nowhere to ask for further guidance. So are there anyone out there who actually got this working? Or got a better alternative for continuous integration / automatic build solution for eclipse plug-ins?

• SQL update fields of one table from fields of another one.

  I'm having two tables: A [ID, column1, column2, column3] B [ID, column1, column2, column3, column4] A table will always be subset of B table (meaning all columns of A are also in B). I want to update a record with a specific ID in B with their data from A for all columns of A. This ID exists both in A and B. Is there an UPDATE syntax or any other way to do that without specifying the column names, just saying "set all columns of A"? I'm using postgresql, so a specific non-standard command is also accepted (however, not preferred). Thanks.

  I'd like to be able to match this entire line (to highlight this sort of thing in vim): Fri Mar 18 14:10:23 ICT 2011. I'm trying to do it by finding a line that contains ICT 20 (first two digits of the year of the year), like this: syntax match myDate /^*ICT 20*$/, but I can't get it working. I'm very new to regex. Basically what I want to say: find a line that contains "ICT 20" and can have anything on either side of it, and match that whole line. Is there an easy way to do this?

I'm extremely new to Scala, and I realize my syntax might be completely wrong. I'm just trying to come up with a good design for this library before I start coding it. I'm willing to take suggestions for this, if I'm doing it the completely wrong way, or if there's a better way. The idea is that the API will take some sort of request object, use it to make a request in a thread via http, and when the response has been made, somehow signal back to the caller if the request was a success or an error. The request/error functions have to be executed on the main thread.

• Simple javascript document.write isn't working...

  Here's the code in question I'm trying to create a simple application - each of the three men has a rel="x" attribute attached them. I'm using var regionId = $('img.selected-region').attr('rel'); to make the rel of the currently selected item the value of reginId. I want to test this out by performing a simple document.write(regionId) command in a div under the pictures of the men. However, it's not working. Have I put the var regionId definition in the right place in the script window? I'm completely new to javascript so the syntax is confusing to me - and help would be greatly appreciated.

• deploying a simple html website with eclipse EE & tomcat 7 & router for pc not in LAN

  Hello everyone and thanks for your time, first of all - I want to make a note - I can see the website from my own pc which is the only one connected to the (netgear dgn1000) router, and I can do so with several browsers on my pc, but - when I try and do a port forwarding so that I could access this simple html file (which in the way would use a simple servlet class) I can't seem to view it I have configured my router (both the "services" and the "firewall" sections), and I have also changed my LAN properties according to my ISP's explanation (via phone) : instead of choosing the "obtain an IP address automatically" I have chosen the "use the following IP address, with IP address of 10.0.0.1 (this was also set in the router's port forwarding), Subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, default gateway by checking the same value as seen in the cmd when executing the command ipconfig /all after doing so I've changed the DNS to use the address (just the preferred and not the alternate one) given with the ipconfig /all and still - nothing :/ is it something in my network settings or in my deployment of the eclipse/tomcat ? any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

  Consider two entities Parent and Child. Child is part of Parent's transient collection Child has a ManyToOne mapping to parent with FetchType.LAZY Both are displayed on the same form to a user. When user saves the data we first update Parent instance and then Child collection (both using merge). Now comes the tricky part. When user modifies only Child property on the form then hibernate dirty checking does not update Parent instance and thus does not increase optimistic locking version number for that entity. I would like to see situation where only Parent is versioned and every time I call merge for Parent then version is always updated even if actual update is not executed in db.

• boolean type for while loop in bash?

  I have a cron script on a shared web host that occasionally gets killed. I'd like to make a loop in bash that tries again if it gets killed, because most of the time it will make it. I'm having trouble with the syntax for storing a boolean value :P #!/bin/bash VAR=0; while [ $VAR ]; do if nice -19 mysqldump -uuser -ppassword -h database.hostname.com --skip-opt --all --complete-insert --add-drop-table database_name > ~/file/system/path/filename.sql; then VAR=1; fi done So the script recovers from a killed process okay, but once it's run properly, the new VAR value doesn't kill the while loop. What am I doing wrong?

• Is it possible to prevent a locally-running SWF (AS3) from downloading from my website?

  I've got a crossdomain.xml file which allows SWFs running on only a certain few domains to download resources from my domain. However, one simple way around this is for a user to download the SWF to their local machine, and run it there (i.e. by double-clicking on it within Windows Explorer, not by running through http://localhost). It seems that when this happens, the crossdomain.xml file is ignored. I understand that in my actionscript, I can do this: if (Security.sandboxType.indexOf(Security.REMOTE) == -1) // running locally - don't allow However it is incredibly easy for someone to decompile the SWF and simply remove this line. Is it possible to do something on the server side to stop a locally running SWF to download from my site? I tried checking the referrer but this field often isn't populated. • SQL Server Express 2008 Stored Procedure execution time spikes periodically

  I have a big stored procedure on a SQL Server 2008 Express SP2 database that gets run about every 200 ms. Normal execution time is about 50ms. What I am seeing is large inconsistencies in this run time. It will execute for while, say 50-100 times at 40-60ms which is expected, then seemingly at random the same stored procedure will take way longer, say 900ms or 1.5 seconds to run. Sometimes more than one call of the same procedure in a row will take longer too. It appears that something is causing sql server to slow down dramatically every minute or so, but I can't figure out what. There is no timing pattern between the occurences. I have the same setup on two different computers, one of which is a clean XP Pro load with no virus checking and nothing installed except SQL server. Also, The recovery options for all the databases are set to "Simple".

• SQLite REGEXP initializer not working in production on Heroku

  I am using this to create a REGEXP in SQLite with rails because SQLite does not support REGEXP. When running this app on Heroku rather than the localhost it does not work. Is the initializer not being run when the app launches? • Mysql query - problem with order by

  I'm using two tables for selecting messages between users. Table "messages" for recording the messages and table "members" for checking users data (are they activ or deleted). This query working fine. What I need to do is list the received messsages order by last received. I tried to do with "ORDER BY messages.id DESC" at the end of this query but it didn't work. All messages are listed from first received. This is the mysql join table query that I'm using: sql = "select distinct messages.fromid, messages.readed, messages.fromid, messages.toid, members.id as pid From messages Inner Join members on members.id = messages.fromid Where messages.toid = ".$mid." • Teaching a mainframe COBOL programmer Java?

  I’m trying to help someone learn Java who’s only programming experience is COBOL on the mainframe. I was wondering if anyone knew any good resources for object oriented concepts. I learned how to program with C++ so just understand the theory behind basic OOP. I’m more concerned about a way to get the basic concepts across, such as encapsulation and inheritance rather then Java syntax. I think it’d be better to teach the concepts of OOP then a language rather then trying to cram both a new language and paradigm in at the same time. Does anyone have any resources or ideas that could help this person learn OOP followed by Java?

• Hudson jobs won't call javac?

  Hi, I have just set up Hudson on my server. For some reason, my build will not call javac to compile my builds...? I have set the path to the JDK in the Manage Hudson area, and it seems to recognise it (doesn't give me a warning). Is there something else I'm supposed to do? • Proper way to have an endless worker thread?

  I have an object that requires a lot of initialization (1-2 seconds on a beefy machine). Though once it is initialized it only takes about 20 miliseconds to do a typical "job" In order to prevent it from being re-initialized every time an app wants to use it (which could be 50 times a second or not at all for minutes in typical usage), I decided to give it a job que, and have it run on its own thread, checking to see if there is any work for it in the que. However I'm not entirely sure how to make a thread that runs indefinetly with or without work. Here's what I have so far, any critique is welcomed private void DoWork() { while (true) { if (JobQue.Count > 0) { // do work on JobQue.Pop() } else { System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(50); } } } After thought: I was thinking I may need to kill this thread gracefully insead of letting it run forever, so I think I will add a Job type that tells the thread to end. Any thoughts on how to end a thread like this also appreciated.
