I am happy to announce that the DotNetNuke 5.3.0 release is now available for download. This release marks the fourth month in a row where we have hit our targeted release date. That is a huge accomplishment for the project as the DotNetNuke Corporation engineering team is really starting to gel. During this release cycle we also had a number of significant contributions by core team members. Over the past year, as our development methodology has undergone change and we have hired more members for...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Dependency problem while missing package is already installed

    - by hakermania
I am trying to install a program but I am getting a dependency error. The error clearly points out: Dependency is not satisfiable: libc6-amd64 (>= 2.14) I went on to investigate and I found out that I have 2.19 version installed, actually: alex@MaD-pc:~$ apt-cache policy libc6-amd64 libc6-amd64:i386: Installed: 2.19-0ubuntu6 Candidate: 2.19-0ubuntu6 Version table: *** 2.19-0ubuntu6 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Why am I getting this error if I already have this package? I also should probably mention that the system is 100% up to date. I run the updates and upgrades, restarted the system and then tried to install the package again with the same error popping up. Edit 1: I am using amd64 but I have installed some 32-bit libraries required by some program installed via wine if I recall correctly.

  • Unity session goes to lock on app launch, and won't unlock with password

    - by really
Has been happening on every Ubuntu machine I've used to date, which is a total of 4. Started in 12.10 as far as I know, but it might have happened with 12.04, 12.10, 13.04, 13.10 and now 14.04. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, but what always seems to trigger it is opening a web browser or some other application first from the sidebar. Firefox was was the most recent trigger. Instead of opening my browser, which it acts like it's going to do... the session locks, goes to the login screen, and won't unlock with the correct password. By 'won't unlock' I mean it unlocks then immediately locks again without first restoring unity, it does not produce 'incorrect password' I suspect this is a virus or password snooping software because of the fact it won't unlock with correct password information and I think if this IS a security issue, it should be fixed asap considering it's widespread throughout multiple versions. It's probably not a virus, but it is certainly suspicious behaviour to see your pc do that... wouldn't you think?

  • How to get the Time Difference in C# .net

    - by Aamir Hasan
A DateTime instance stores both date and time information. The DateTime class can be found in the System namespace. In order to retrieve the current system time, we can use the static property Now of the DateTime class. In this Example i have shown, how to calculate the difference between two DateTime objects using C# syntax. DateTime startTime; DateTime endTime;            startTime = Convert.ToDateTime("12:12 AM");            endTime = Convert.ToDateTime("1:12 AM");            var timeDifference = new TimeSpan(endTime.Ticks - startTime.Ticks);Response.Write("Time difference in hours is " + timeDifference.Hours);Link:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8kb3ddd4.aspx

  • Examples of "hidden" humor in programming books? [closed]

    - by Maglob
Every now and then while reading programming books, I find more a less hidden jokes, passage of texts written in witty, tongue-in-cheek fashion, right there in middle of more serious text. These make me giggle and I remember these for years :) Such as The Java Programming Language, documentation about currentTimeMillis(): "The time is returned in a long, so it will not overflow until the year 292280995, which should suffice for most purposes. More sophisticated applications may require the Date class." Common Lisp The Language, 2nd ed, in index: "kludges, 1-971" What good "hidden" jokes you have come across while reading programming books?

  • Links in my site have been hacked

    - by Funky
In my site I prefix the images and links with the domain of the site for better SEO using the code below: public static string GetHTTPHost() { string host = ""; if (HttpContext.Current.Request["HTTP_HOST"] != null) host = HttpContext.Current.Request["HTTP_HOST"]; if (host == "site.co.uk" || host == "site.com") { return "http://www." + host; } return "http://"+ host; } This works great, but for some reason, lots of links have now changed to http://www.baidu.com/... There is no sign of this in any of the code or project, the files on the server also have a change date when i last did the publish at 11 yesterday, so all the files on there look fine. I am using ASP.net and Umbraco 4.7.2 Does anyone have any ideas? thanks

  • Best Strategy for Exact Match Domain (EMD) Along Side Branded Domain

    - by ChrisInCambo
I lucked out and managed to buy a two word .com EMD for the most important key-phrase for our b2b SaaS startup. Shutting down our branded domain isn't an option, we've already got too much invested in that brand (not in terms of SEO but in terms of other marketing efforts). The brand domain at present hasn't really been optimised for this key-phrase and we haven't invested any effort in SEO to date on that domain, but now we have some resources and want to make a big push for that key-phrase. So what is the best strategy for an EMD when you want already have a branded domain that you don't want to close or have penalised in some way?

  • Will Ubuntu be releasing an update for Cedar Trail Processors?

    - by Alan
There is a file available on the Intel web site with the file name "cdv-gfx-drivers-1.0.1_bee.tar.bz2" and a date of July 6, 2012. It can be found by searching the Intel Download Center for the filename or the string "Linux* PowerVR Graphics/Media Drivers". The download page links to the file, release notes and a link, Enabling hardware accelerated playback that takes one to a page containing links to two pdf documents titled "Enabling Hardware Accelerated Playback for Intel® AtomTM Processor N2000/D2000 Series", one for Ubuntu and one for Fedora. The instruction and release notes speak to working with kernel 3.1.0 and since I do not feel I have the skills, knowledge or training to do anything else but, follow the instructions to the "T", I am very reluctant to try anything on my freshly updated 3.2.0 kernel. I would much rather use a Ubuntu supported kernel that applies these drivers and doesn't break anything in the process. Is it a case where this is so new that Canonical has not yet included these drivers but, soon will do so?

  • I'm looking for websites with programming problems that I can practice [on hold]

    - by Spentak
I want to become a more skilled programmer. I also want to do it through Objective-C and iOS. What websites or programs that you know of have problems that I can solve (with the answers)? I have failed some programming tests for jobs (such as "Given 2 values in a Binary Tree - how do you find the lowest common ancestor?) and I want to become a better engineer. I have developed 54 iOS/Android apps to date, but my core CS Skills apparently are rusty/bad. I have looked at TopCoder - but there aren't very many competitions going on, the website is terrible, and there does not appear to be anything that really supports Objective-C/iOS Websites?

  • How should I synchronize configurations and data across computers?

    - by lfaraone
Imagine I have three Ubuntu computers home, laptop, beach-house. They all have the same version of Ubuntu, 10.04 installed, and are kept up to date from the repositories. I use f-spot, thunderbird, and google-chrome on all of the computers. Is there a way to keep the data and configuration in sync across them, without requiring constant connectivity for normal (non-synchronous) usage? For example, they should be usable without network connectivity, so something like NFS won't work. An ideal solution would not require manual action to start the syncing process.

  • Hierachies....from the Top Down

    - by Joe G
I've been struggling with how to write on the topic of the importance of hierarchy design.  It's not so much that hierarchies haven't always been important, it's more of that with Fusion, the timing of when the hierarchies are designed should take a higher priority.    I will attempt to explain..... When I was implementing applications, back in the day, we had the list of detailed account values to enter with the obvious parent accounts. Then, after the setup was complete and things were functioning, the reporting phase started.  Users explained the elements that they want on the reports, what totals should be included, and how things should be compared.  Frequently, there was at least one calculation that became a nightmare either because it was based on very specific things that didn't relate to anything else or because it was "hardcoded" so that when something changed, someone need to "fix" the report. With Fusion, the process changes slightly.  You still want to enter all of the detailed accounts, but before you start adding parent values, you should investigate the reporting requirements from the top-down.  It's better to build hierarchies based on the reporting requirements than it is to build reports based on random hierarchies. Build reports based on hierarchies that resemble the reports themselves, and maintain the hierarchies without rework of the reports. For example, if you look at an income statement, you may have line items for Material Costs, Employee Costs, Travel & Entertainment, and Total Operating Expenses.  In your hierarchy, you have detail values that roll up to Material Costs, Employee Costs, and Travel & Entertainment which roll up to Total Operating Expenses. Balances are stored automatically in the cube for each of these.  When you define the report, you pick each of these members - no calculations required.  If a new detail value is added, you simply add it to the hierarchy, and there is no need to modify the report. I realize that there are always exceptions that require special handling, but I am confident that you will end up with much fewer exceptions if you make reporting a priority and design your hierarchies from the top-down.

  • When calculating how many days between 2 dates, should you include both dates in the count, or neither, or 1?

    - by Andy
I hope this question is alright to ask here. I am trying to make an algorithm that counts how many days between 2 dates. For example, 3/1/2012 and 3/2/2012. Whats the correct answer, or the most popular choice, and should be the one I use? So in this case, if I don't include both dates I am comparing, its 0. If I include one of them (both the start date), its 1. Lastly, if I include both, its 2. Thanks.

Lors de son procès, il avait finalement décidé de plaider coupable. Le pirate de 28 ans était inquiet de la sentence qui l'attendait, mais s'attendait-il à une peine aussi lourde ? • Practices for domain models in Javascript (with frameworks)

    - by AndyBursh
This is a question I've to-and-fro'd with for a while, and searched for and found nothing on: what're the accepted practices surrounding duplicating domain models in Javascript for a web application, when using a framework like Backbone or Knockout? Given a web application of a non-trivial size with a set of domain models on the server side, should we duplicate these models in the web application (see the example at the bottom)? Or should we use the dynamic nature to load these models from the server? To my mind, the arguments for duplicating the models are in easing validation of fields, ensuring that fields that expected to be present are in fact present etc. My approach is to treat the client-side code like an almost separate application, doing trivial things itself and only relying on the server for data and complex operations (which require data the client-side doesn't have). I think treating the client-side code like this is akin to separation between entities from an ORM and the models used with the view in the UI layer: they may have the same fields and relate to the same domain concept, but they're distinct things. On the other hand, it seems to me that duplicating these models on the server side is a clear violation of DRY and likely to lead to differing results on the client- and server-side (where one piece gets updated but the other doesn't). To avoid this violation of DRY we can simply use Javascripts dynamism to get the field names and data from the server as and when they're neeed. So: are there any accepted guidelines around when (and when not) to repeat yourself in these situations? Or this a purely subjective thing, based on the project and developer(s)? Example Server-side model class M { int A DateTime B int C int D = (A*C) double SomeComplexCalculation = ServiceLayer.Call(); } Client-side model function M(){ this.A = ko.observable(); this.B = ko.observable(); this.C = ko.observable(); this.D = function() { return A() * C(); } this.SomeComplexCalculation = ko.observalbe(); return this; }l M.GetComplexValue = function(){ this.SomeComplexCalculation(Ajax.CallBackToServer()); }; I realise this question is quite similar to this one, but I think this is more about almost wholly untying the web application from the server, where that question is about doing this only in the case of complex calculation.

  • Installed 12.04 from CD problems with compiz-core - wont continue - just

    - by user70886
Installed 12.04 from CD to clean hard drive but on first boot up says problems with compiz-core. Clicked continue with it not installed. After I sent info for help; it came back with some packages are not up to date. Said I need to update compiz-core and libylib2.0-0 Cancelled the process to send info (after second time) but it wont cancel and it wont load the desktop. What do I do now? Right click will let me create a new folder/document or organise desktop by name etc but I cannot see the usual system bar or left menu items. Is there a way to load the terminal and reload the desktop. If this was windows I'd use cntrl alt delete and run explorer to fix the desktop.

  • Get your picture on the screen at MIX11: Help me create a repository of sample data

    - by Laurent Bugnion
Here is your chance to get your picture on the big screen during my MIX11 presentation in April this year. I need to create a small repository of sample data for my demos. So instead of tapping in my imagination and creating dummy users (or reusing past information I already used in other demos), I thought I would appeal to the amazing community: Send me an email with the following information. I will include the first 30 users into my sample data repository and use your info in my demo. First Name Last Name Date of birth Picture Link to Facebook profile (optional) Disclaimer: The data will only be running locally on my hard drive. The demos will however be filmed and the videos made public. By providing this information, you explicitly consent to this data being used in demos at MIX11 and possibly in following conferences. The data will only be used for demo purposes. Thanks for your help!!   Laurent Bugnion (GalaSoft) Subscribe | Twitter | Facebook | Flickr | LinkedIn
