• May a NSManagedObjectContext re-fault objects automatically?

  I am trying to create an application which allows background threads to update core data objects while the user might be reading the same data. My approach to this would be to use multiple NSManagedObjectContexts and then before a background thread does a -save: operation, I fetch the object the user is currently working on and fire the fault for all its properties and relationships recursively. This way I have all objects the user could act with in my NSManagedObjectContext without seeing the already updated values. But this can only work if the NSManagedObjectContext cannot decide himself that e.g. memory usage is too high, and starts faulting objects which I do not explicitly reference (other than through the NSManagedObject relationship). So the question is, can the NSManagedObjectContext decide that an object needs to be re-faulted, without intervention from my side? Thanks for your effort, Markus

  Hi, I need to do the following: In Crm, you have serviceappointments (serviceactivities). 1 appointment can have a state, ( like arrived, pending, closed, ... ). When i save the form (onsave event), It should catch if the form is putted closed state and then it should do something. I can get the state easily: alert(crmForm.all.statuscode.DataValue) I hanged this onto an onsave event. But when i put a serviceappointment into closed state, it first calls the onsave event with previous state and then puts it in closed state. Is it possible to catch if it's putted in closed state?

  I was just reading this excellent post, and got some better understanding of what exactly object oriented programming is, how Java implements it in one extreme manner, and how functional programming languages are a contrast. What I was thinking is this: if functional programming languages cannot save any state, how do they do some simple stuff like reading input from a user (I mean how do they "store" it), or storing any data for that matter? • Storing Interface type in ASP.NET Profile

  In my ASP.NET website all calls into the data layer return entities as interfaces and the website does not need to know what the concrete type is. This works fine, but I have run into a problem when trying to store one of those types into the user Profile. My interface implements ISerializable, like the following: public interface IInsured : IPerson, IEntity, ISerializable and the concrete type in the datalayer does implement ISerializable. My Profile property in web.config is: <add name="ActiveInsured" type="FacadeInterfaces.IInsured" serializeAs="Binary" defaultValue="[null]"/> It compiles just fine, but I get a runtime error on Profile.Save() saying that the interface cannot be serialized. I have also tried it with serializeAs="Xml". I thought that if my interface implemented ISerializable it would work. Anybody had this problem before or know of a workaround?

  I'm looking at the product Aptimize Website Accelerator, which is an ISAPI filter that will concatenate files, minify css/javascript, and more. Does anyone have experience with this product, or any other "all-in-one" solutions? I'm interesting in knowing whether something like this would be good long-term, or would manually setting up all the components (integrate YUICompress into the build process, setting up gzip compression, tweaking expiration headers, etc...) be more beneficial? An all-in-one solution like this looks very tempting, as it could save a lot of time if our website is "less than optimal". But how efficient are these products? Would setting up the components manually generate better results? Or would the gap between the all-in-one solution and manually setting up the component be so small, that it's negligible?

• Handling hundreds of actions in Struts2

  Hi all, I've inherited a struts 1 web application where, in order to reduce the number of Action classes (I guess this is the reason), lots of actions are mapped inside a single Action class, like: public XXXAction() throws Exception{ actions = new Hashtable(); actions.put("/XXX/main/load", new Integer(0)); actions.put("/XXX/main/save", new Integer(1)); ...... } public ActionForward executeAction(ActionMapping mapping, ActionForm form, HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws IOException, ServletException { try { switch (((Integer) actions.get(action)).intValue()) { case 0: loadXXXMain(); break; case 1: ....... and so on (in some Action classes I have almost one hundred of these small actions). Now I'm looking at migrate to struts2 and I would like to have a cleaner and better solution to handle this, maybe without having a single Action class for each of these small classes. What do you suggest? I don't like this solution, but I don't like having hundreds of Action classes.... Thanks! Roberto

  Well The title might be a lil confusing, what I am currently doing is creating an aspx form dynamically and saving its data by using Server.Transfer("PrssPage.aspx"). On ProcessPage.aspx I am using the Previous Page property to save the data entered by the user using the dynamically created form. Each Dynamic Form is provided an ID for example 123.aspx Now what I want to achieve is to repopulate the dynamically created aspx page with the user input values from database, plz note here that I do not have an aspx.cs page getting dynamically generated. I am only generating aspx page. Any suggestion ?

• Sitecore - Rich Text Editor field is not saving information but instead just copying old information

  We are using Sitecore.NET 5.3.1 (rev. 071114) and we found out a problem. When we are trying to change information in a Rich Text Editor field on the Master database and save the information, this information is not stored and instead the old information appears back into the RTE field. I have been trying this on the Web database on which this is not happening. However, changing this information on the web database feels useless because a publish will just change every information that does not correspond to the data in the Master database in which i just can't edit this field. So I'm having big trouble at this point since this is for one of our bigger customers and they really want this fixxed asap. We (Estate Internet) already have had an open ticket for this problem, but never got the solution. Hope that someone here knows what the problem may be.

  Hi, I've managed to save ListView items to a System.Collections.Specialized.StringCollection property settings using this LINQ one liner: My.Settings.Property1.AddRange(ListView1.Items.Cast(Of ListViewItem)().[Select](Function(a) String.Join(Convert.ToChar(Keys.Tab), a.SubItems.Cast(Of System.Windows.Forms.ListViewItem.ListViewSubItem)().[Select](Function(s) s.Text).ToArray())).ToArray()) Now, I want to do the opposite, ie load the ListView1 from the My.Settings.Property1. It's fairly easy to do using a For Each loop, but I wonder if someone can show me a similar LINQ query. • UIImagepickerController strange bug

  Hi, I'm doing something with UIImagePickerController. It works fine and the Picture browser does open, however, I get this message. "Failed to save the videos metadata to the filesystem. Maybe the information did not conform to a plist." What could be causing that? That is caused by this line [self presentModalViewController:self.imgPicker animated:YES]; which is activated on a button click Snippets of the code that I have below. - (void)viewDidLoad { self.imgPicker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; self.imgPicker.allowsImageEditing = YES; self.imgPicker.delegate = self; } - (IBAction)grabImage { [self presentModalViewController:self.imgPicker animated:YES]; } it's also removing images from documents directory and from resources folder. I can not understand why? does someone found the solution to this?

• Trying to integrate Jeditable+MarkItUp and Thickbox/Lightbox

  I've managed to successfully integrate MarkItUp with Jeditable based on the instructions on those two sites. What I would really like to do, however, is to have the Jeditable/MarkItUp editing window appear in a Thickbox or Lightbox overlay. So far my attempts to do this have not been successful. So, at the moment, I have the standard code: $.editable.addInputType('markitup', { element : $.editable.types.textarea.element, plugin : function(settings, original) { $('textarea', this).markItUp(settings.markitup); } }); $(".editme").editable("/content/save", { event : 'dblclick', type : 'markitup', submit : 'OK', cancel : 'Cancel', width : 640, height : 'auto', tooltip : 'Double-click to edit...', onblur : 'ignore', markitup : mySettings }); I've found other posts here that show how to trigger the edit box by clicking on a link rather than the object itself, and I've tried integrating that with the Thickbox calls, to no avail.   Hi there, I'm rather new to rails. I have a controller that's attempting to update a model using the following code: @test = Product.find(1) @test.increment!(:price) It does successfully retrieve the Product from the database, but does not update the price attribute. Does anyone know why this might be the case, or how I could get more feedback on what the problem is? Thanks a bunch! Tristan edit: price is an integer with value 0. I get the same problem when I set the price with @test.price=50 and then @test.save .

  I'm currently building a facebook application. Lets say I have a variable $uid that identifies the user so I can store this in my database along with their submitted data. I pass $uid and $data via json encoded values using $.post. However, this doesn't prevent someone changing $uid to save data as someone else. I have been thinking about how to overcome this, so far I haven't found a solution apart from: create database with $uid $secretkey on first page load. When $.post send $secretkey with the post and then retrieve the $uid from the database. Would this be the correct approach to use?

• Combining Hg Commits Before Pushing?

  Let's say I am working on a feature branch cloned from an hg repository - I make some commits and then push the changes back to the repository as expected. However, is there any way to combine multiple commits into a single changeset for the push? For example, today I committed some changes and then remembered I hadn't updated the README file - which meant a 'single' set of changes actually consisted of 2 commits to my local repository. When I pushed these changes back to the original repository it would of been useful to combine the two as a single entity to save cluttering up the repository history.

  I've made some experimental code that I would like to save in the repository, but I don't want it on the main branch. How would you commit this to a branch? Maybe I got this wrong, but of what I've understood about branching, all you actually do is copying already checked in code to another directory in the repository. I suppose one could copy the main branch to another location, and then change the working copy repository location pointer to point at that location, and then commit the experimental code. But that seems a bit long-winded. Is this really how you do it?

I am using a simple for loop to determine the inheritance type - CreditCard or DebitCard and then calling entityManager.remove(entity). What am I doing wrong?   I'm attempting to save a c-style array of Vertex3D structs to an NSData object and get them back when reloading the app: NSData *vert = [NSData dataWithBytes:&vertices length:(sizeof(Vertex3D) * NUM_OF_VERTICES)]; This data is then saved and attempted to be read back into my c-array thusly: vertices = malloc(sizeof(Vertex3D) * NUM_OF_VERTICES); [vert getBytes:&vertices length:(sizeof(Vertex3D) * NUM_OF_VERTICES)]; The above results in “EXC_BAD_ACCESS” followed by: malloc: * error for object 0x48423c0: pointer being freed was not allocated I'm very new to programming so there's probably some fundamental memory management principle I'm unaware of. I have verified that the loaded NSData is identical to the saved one, but it's clear that the transition from c-array to NSData (and back) is not as I intended.

  Can someone explain to me how you would use jeditable with an ASP.NET web form (and C# codebehind). I've got a bit of experience with web forms but not very complicated stuff, and haven't used much jquery before, and this is just puzzling me. I understand how to put it in and attach it to the element you want to be editable, it's what jeditable does when you submit the text field that I don't get. How do you handle that in the webform in order to save the changed text? Hope someone understands my issue... Cheers!

  Hi there, I have readed about how to prevent CSRF-attacks in the last days. I am going to update the token in every pageload, save the token in the session and make a check when submitting a form. But what if the user has, lets say 3 tabs open with my website, and I just store the last token in the session? This will overwrite the token with another token, and some post-action is going to fail. Do I need to store all tokens in the session, or is there a better solution to get this working?   I'm trying to invoke a method f() every t time, but if the previous invocation of f() has not finished yet, wait until it's finished. I've read a bit about the available timers (this is a useful link) but couldn't find any good way of doing what I want, save for manually writing it all. Any help about how to achieve this will be appreciated, though I fear I might not be able to find a simple solution using timers. To clarify, if x is one second, and f() runs the arbitrary durations I've written below, then: Step Operation Time taken 1 wait 1s 2 f() 0.6s 3 wait 0.4s (because f already took 0.6 seconds) 4 f() 10s 5 wait 0s (we're late) 6 f() 0.3s 7 wait 0.7s (we can disregard the debt from step 4) Notice that the nature of this timer is that f() will not need to be safe regarding re-entrance, and a thread pool of size 1 is enough here.
