• Entourage Reminders for events not on calendar

  After a series of nasty mishaps, I needed to create a new Entourage profile and re-populate my calendar by resynching it with my Exchange Server. Now I'm receiving multiple notifications for a single appointment -- two or even four at once. (Perhaps four is due to the intermediate 'reset' attempts I made before discarding and creating a new profile.) Reviewing my calendar I see only a single appointment, not multiple appointments. Checking my Outlook calendar confirms only a single appointment. My local calendar is completely empty. Is there a separate Entourage database for reminders that I can clear or resync? Is there somewhere else for calendar appointments to live where I'm not looking?

  In my previous posts I discussed about Cruisecontrol.net and its legacy support to .Net development. Hudson  is yet another continuous integration tool. Hudson is also free like CCNet and built in java. - CCNet has its legacy support to .Net applications where as Hudson can be easily configured on both the environments (.Net and Java). - One of the major differences in CCNet and Hudson is the richer GUI of Hudson provide user interactive screens for project configuration where as in CCNet we have to play with a few xml configuration files. Both the tools are capable of providing basic features of continuous integration e.g.:- - Source Control configuration - Code Compilation/Build - Ad hoc plugin tools to be configured along with compilation Support for adhoc tools seems to be bigger with CCNet e.g. There are almost every source control plugin available with CCNet where as Hudson has support for limited source control servers. Basically there is an interseting point to see is that there are 2 major partsof whole CI system one performed by build tool and rest. Build tool takes care of all adhoc plugin tools  so no matter if CI tool does not have plugin for that tool if thet tools provides command line support that can be configured in build tool and that build tool is then configured with CI tool inturn. For example if I have a build script configured in MSBuild and CCNet can be easily switched to Hudson. Here we need not to change anything in build script we just need to configure MSBuild on Hudson and pass the path of script file and thats it... all is same. Thoughts? -- EDIT -- After playing with it a bit, I would think it has something to do with referencing the projects. I'm already referencing the TiledLib within my main windows project (TiledTest). However, this doesn't seem to make a difference. I can place the dll generated from the TiledLib project into the debug folder of TiledTest, and this causes it to generate a different error: Error loading "desert".   I have a problem with playing online mp3s. I'm using latest version of javazoom's jlayer and basicplayer. Certain files cannot be player through the Internet. I have a set of mp3s, playing one after the other. Randomly one mp3 doesn't work throwing above exception. Some mp3s can be played by calling again play() method if javazoom's basicplayer, but others can never be played online. • Configuring Fortigate OS4 for FTPS

  I configured iis7 ftp to allow ssl connections. I set the ssl firewall to use ports 50000-50050. If I set up a custom service on my fortigate firewall for ftps with source ports 990-50050 and destination ports 990-50050, set it to a firewall policy and connect from a client it connects and works successfully. If I create a service FTPS Control with source port 990 and destination port 990 and another service,FTP Data with source ports 50000-50050 and destination ports 50000-50050 add them to a group FTPSSL, replace the ftps policy with FTPSSL and try connecting it tries to connect to port 990 and eventually times out. Is there a way to configure the service to only use the ports I need and not every port from 990 up?

  Nem akarok provokátornak tunni, de lenne egy-két észrevételem az amúgy jól sikerült Open Source 2011 konferencia kapcsán. Persze a mi rendezvényeinkre is lehet panasz, amit szívesen is veszünk, hogy tanuljunk belole. Szóval nem sikerült az elektronikus regisztráció, pedig még fel is hívtak elotte, meg minden. Ennek ellenére a helyszíni listában mégsem voltam benne. Persze gyorsan megoldották, de azért mégis egy informatikai konferenciáról van szó. Ha már open source, akkor tényleg olyan nehéz lett volna Linuxos gépeket, odahozni OpenOffice (vagy LibreOffice, vagy akármi) telepítéssel. Volt is minden eloadásváltásnál megjegyzés. Azt már nem is említem, hogy persze a néhány kivételtol eltekintve a legtöbben ppt hoztak. Persze egy részük készülhetett OpenOffice-ban is. Mondjuk erre azért fogadnék. Persze volt aki nem ppt-ben hozta és még fel is hívta rá a figyelmet, hogy bezzeg o nem a Microsoft eszközeivel ad elo. Helyette azért egy másik fizetossel sikerült elmondani, hogy milyen jó, hogy nem kerül semmibe az open source. Ami amúgy nagyon jó prezentációs alkalmazás. (Jutalom nélkül, mi lehetett az? Válaszokat ide várom a blogra.) A tartalom, mint mondtam érdekes volt. Persze lenne min vitatkozni, de ezt esetleg majd a konkrét téma kapcsán. Idén nem vettünk részt eloadóként, de szerintem jövore ez már változhat. Az esti program is nagyon jó volt, különösen Soma buvész lenyugözo trükkjei.

• Using an old PC case and power supply as a HDD Enclosure?

  I have 5 HDD and my computer is not handling the situation very well. hehe There are some towers that I can buy to put 4 of my drives out, but I'm thinking that I could use the power source of a failed computer I have and use it to power the 4 (or at least 3) of the drives. The data cables (SATA) will remain connected to the working computer (so no USB solution). The problem is that the power source will not work unless it is connected to the failing computer motherboard. Is there any way I could use the power source without plunging it to the old motherboard? Any "HOW-TO" links may be useful as well.

• SVN Export or Recursively Remove .SVN Folders

  I shared this script with a coworker yesterday. It doesn’t do much; it recursively deletes .svn folders from a source tree.  It comes in handy if you want to share your codebase or you get in a terrible spot with SVN and you just want to start all over. Just blow away all svn artifacts and use your mulligan. It’s true. You can nearly get the same result using the SVN export command which copies your source sans the .svn folders to an alternate location.  The catch is an export only includes those files/folders which exist under version control.  If you want a clean copy of your source – versioned or not – export just might not do. The contents of the .cmd file include the following: for /f "tokens=* delims=" %%i in (’dir /s /b /a:d *.svn’) do ( rd /s /q "%%i" ) Just download and drop the unzipped “SVN Cleanup.cmd” file into the root of the project, execute and away you go.  If you search around enough, I know you can find similar scripts and approaches elsewhere, but I’m still uploading my script for completeness and future reference. • Dryad and DryadLINQ from MSR

  Microsoft Research (MSR) researches technologies, incubates projects which many times result in technology that looks like a ready-to-use product (but it is important to understand that these are not the same as products built by the various… actual product teams here at Microsoft). A very popular MSR project has been DryadLINQ, which itself builds on Dryad. To learn more follow the project pages I just linked to and I also recommend this 1-hour channel 9 video. If you only have 3 minutes, watch this great elevator pitch instead. You can also stay tuned on the official blog, which includes a post that refers to internal adoption e.g by Bing, a quick DryadLINQ code example, and some history on how DryadLINQ generalizes the MapReduce pattern and makes it accessible to regular programmers (see this post and that post). Essentially, the DryadLINQ framework (building on the Dryad runtime) allows developers to re-use their LINQ skills for creating/generating programs that process large multi-gigabyte/terabyte datasets across 100s-1000s of machines. One way to think about it is that just as Parallel LINQ allows LINQ developers to seamlessly use multiple cores from a single process on a single machine, DryadLINQ allows LINQ developers to seamlessly use multiple machines for their data parallel algorithms. In the former scenario the motivation was speed of execution, in the latter it is speed of execution AND processing large datasets that simply don't fit on a single machine. Whenever I hear about execution of parallel code on multiple machines on the Microsoft platform, I immediately think of Windows HPC Server. • How do you create large, growable, shared filesystems on Linux at AWS?

  What are acceptable/reasonable/best ways to provide large, growable, shared storage at AWS, exposed as a single filesystem? We're currently making 1TB EBS volumes ~biweekly and NFS exporting with no_subtree_check and nohide. In this setup, distinct exports appear under a single mount on the client. This arrangement does not scale well. The options we've considered: LVM2 with ext4. resize2fs is too slow. Btrfs on Linux. not obviously ready for prime time yet. ZFS on Linux. not obviously ready for prime time yet (although LLNL uses it) ZFS on Solaris. future of this combo is uncertain (to me), and new OS in the mix glusterfs. heard mostly good but two scary (and maybe old?) stories. The ideal solution would provide sharing, a single fs view, easy expandability, snapshots, and replication. Thanks for sharing ideas and experience.

• How does the PPA fit into the scenario of publishing an application to the Ubuntu Software Center?

  I've been going through docs for the past couple of hours but I haven't understood what the PPA is? I have a cross-platform Java application that I'd like to publish to the Ubuntu Software Center. My application is open-source and I'm using Github. Apparently, publishing applications to the store isn't as simple as uploading a deb package - am I right? I need to create an account on Launchpad and put all my code there. I don't intend to move from Git to Bzr merely for the sake of publishing to the app store but luckily, one is able to set up source-code mirroring from Github to Launchpad. Since my application is still very premature, it'll have updates fairly often. When I build my application on my machine, do I simply go my Ubuntu App Developer page and upload the new DEB package or do they build my application from source? What exactly is the PPA for? I don't think I'll need too many of the Launchpad features so I'd like to stick to Github if possible. (Publishing for Ubuntu really isn't trivial. I can see why there are so many developers out there who haven't published their applications to the Ubuntu Software Center. Publishing an Android applications has been the easiest so far.)

• Google Analytics cookie across SagePay checkout

  We use SagePay's Server integration for our online payments. We use Google Analytics to track activity on our website and Google Ecommerce tracking to log transactions. In Google Analytics, under the Ecommerce view, it shows direct/none for source/medium, as the 1st party cookie is lost when visiting the external SagePay checkout pages before the customer is redirected to my confirmation page which tracks the transaction. In all the answers I have viewed when searching for a solution, the suggestion is to alter the tracking code to read _gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'none']); _gaq.push(['_setAllowLinker', true]); but this needs to be implemented on all pages, including 3rd party domains (SagePay). As SagePay don't allow javascript in their template customisation, what can I do? Is there another way?   SOLID came up again in discussion.  What is SOLID?  Well, glad you asked, because I am going to elaborate on the SOLID Principles a bit. Initial Concept S Single Responsibility Principle O Open/Closed Principle L Liskov Substitution Principle I Interface Segregation Principle D Dependency Inversion/Injection Principle The Single Responsibility Principle (SRP) is stated that every object should have a single responsibility and should be entirely encapsulated by the class.  This helps keep cohesion.  Here is a short example, starting with a basic class. public class Car { decimal Gas; int Doors; int Speed; decimal RampJumpSpeed; } Now I will refactor a little bit to make it a bit more SRP friendly. public class Car { decimal Gas; int Speed; }   public class DuneBuggy : Car { decimal RampJumpSpeed; }   public class EconomyCar : Car { int Doors; } What we end up with, instead of one class, is an abstract class and two classes that have their respective methods or properties to keep the responsibilities were they need to be. The Open Closed Principle (OCP) is one of my favorites, which states simply, that you should be able to extend a classes behavior without modifying it.  There are a couple of ways one can extend a class, by inheritance, composition, or by proxy implementation.  The Liskov Substitution Principle (LSP) states that a derived class must be substitutable for their base classes. The Dependency Inversion Principle (DIP) states that one should depend on abstractions and not on concrete implementations. Finally, the Interface Segregation Principle (ISP) states that fine grain interfaces should be client specific. So hope that helps with kicking off a basic understanding of SOLID Principles.  I will be following this entry up with some new bits in the near future related to good software design and practice.   I've installed svnserve in linux box konrad. On konrad I can checkout from svn: steve@konrad:~$ svn co svn://konrad A konrad/build.xml On my local Windows pc i can ping konrad, but checkout doesn work: C:\Projects>svn co svn://konrad svn: E730061: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'svn://konrad' svn: E730061: Can't connect to host 'konrad': ??????????? ?? ???????????, ?.?. ???????? ????????? ?????? ?????? ?? ???????????. • Is there a way communicate or measure levels of abstraction?

  I'll be the first to say that this question is a bit... out there. But here are a couple questions I bear in mind : Is abstraction continuous or discrete? Is there a single unit of abstraction? But I'm not sure those questions are truly answerable or even really makes sence. My naive answer would be something along the lines of abitrarily discrete but not necescarily having a single unit measure. Here's what I mean... Take a Black Labrador; an abstraction that could be made is that a Black Lab is a type of animal. [Animal]<--[Black Lab] A Black Lab is also a type of Dog. [Dog]<--[Black Lab] One way to establish a degree of abstraction is by comparing the two the abstractions. We could say that [Animal] is more abstract than [Dog] in respect to a Black Lab. It just so happens [Animal] can also be used as an abstraction of [Dog] So, we might end up with something like [Animal]<--[Dog]<--[Black Lab] With the model above, one might be inclined to say that there's two hops of abstraction to get from [Black Lab] to [Animal]. But you can't exactly tell somebody they need one level abstraction and reasonalby expect they will come up with [Dog] given they aren't explicity given the options above. If I needed to tell someobody in a single email that they needed an abstract class with out knowing what that abstract class is, is there a way to communaticate a degree of abstraction such that they might end up on Dog instead of Animal? As a side note, what area of study might this type of analysis fall under?

Here are my steps: Download the source code tar xjvf linux-source-3.0.0.tar.bz2 cd linux-source-3.0.0 make menuconfig, changed nothing but used the default config and save to .config make Actually I think it should be 3.0.4 because from the Makefile I could see VERSION = 3 PATCHLEVEL = 0 SUBLEVEL = 4 EXTRAVERSION = Then at stage 2 which is to make modules, an error happened: ERROR: "__modver_version_show" [drivers/staging/rts5139/rts5139.ko] undefined! make[1]: *** [__modpost] Error 1 make: *** [modules] Error 2 Perhaps because 3.0.4 is a new release so that I can not find any same problem asked nor any solution to it.

• Reverse Engineer a .pyo python file

  I have 2 .pyo python files that I can convert to .py source files, but they don't compile perfectly as hinted by decompyle's verify. Therefore looking at the source code, I can tell that config.pyo simply had variables in in an array: ADMIN_USERIDS = [116901, 141, 349244, 39, 1159488] I would like to take the original .pyo and disassembly or whatever I need to do inorder to change one of these IDs. Or.... in model.pyo the source indicates a if (productsDeveloperId != self.getUserId()): All I would want to do is hex edit the != to be a == .....Simple with a windows exe program but I can't find a good python disassembler anywhere. Any suggestions are welcomed...I am new to reading bytecode and new to python as well.
